[FIXED] Bluetooth problem on firmware 10.4.1.B.0.101 - Sony Xperia ZR

I just got the Xperia ZR a month ago. And I loved the 4.1.2 update that already came preloaded with it. The bluetooth, the Wifi and almost everything was working perfectly. Till I decided to upgrade it to the latest 4.3 [10.4.1.B.0.101] upgrade. A lot of people, like me, had issues with the bluetooth unable to detect other devices or be detectable to other devices. And I've seen plenty of complaints on the Sony Mobile blog/forum, too. A lot of them got their phones replaced, re-furbished, re-serviced by Sony; which didn't really solve anything. And a lot of people saying that the temporary fix was to apply loads of pressure on the NFC logo near the flash at the back of the device. Here, I'll tell you a short but permanent fix.
Open your device. Remove your Micro-Sim and SD card (if any) inside and then apply pressure on the area near, where the 'MIC 2' is written. Not much, just a little. And then insert it back. Now put your SIM and SD card back inside, and your bluetooth will work.
I guarantee you it will.

Didn't work!

I tried this fix, applying all sorts of pressure, but it didn't work.
I guess I'll have to contact the local Service center.

the trick does work but for some time only..i have got the mobile replaced twice now and all the three mobiles have the same problem..on my mobile nfc also does not work..the pairing does take place but the file or music whatever u want to send does not get thru..sony has really messed up with this great phone..due to the bluetooth problem i am not able to buy a bluetooth headset..i wanted to bluetooth headset as the mobile does heat up after talking for around 10-15 mins..does anybody else is also facing the same problem??

sounds like there is one hell of technical failure with the bluetooth on the ZR...
the connection between the antena and the motherboard i suspect is bad... that spot you mentioned is probebly where the connection is, so applying pressure there reconects it, but only for a while as i pops back out again later.

Not work, im very dissapointed with my ZR

Same here - does not work.

No Fixed
Problem persist....
wifi and bluetooth dead

Therefore I think the problem is in the software. Bad driver for bluetooth or baseband. For me wi-fi works fine. Bluetooth sometimes works, but mostly not.

Okay, after weeks of doing this (or writing the post), I'm still facing the Bluetooth problem.
I heard some people have bluetooth working flawlessly on CyanogenMod but I don't want to root or put a custom ROM just yet.

For me the pressing just below flash hole seems to fix, but only while pressing. Bluetooth cuts out if I release pressure. Does anyone have a disassembly video or manual? If we can find out how to open it we can fix the problem.

bizare wifi behavior

well, my wifi is acting wierd... reception is good and it doesn't disconnect too often, theres just this little anoying thing!
everytime roughly 3-4 days after i flash a new rom my wifi simply refuses to connect to network, and not a specific one, any network at all!
and it stays like this for a couple of hours and then all of a sudden it picks up a a networks and it works fine for a while, untill i happens again...
i've tried restarting and taking out the battery and turning the wifi off for a while, nothing seems to help, he just decides on his own when he is whilling to connect again....
if i flash a brand new rom the problem disapear for a few days but then it comes back... i'm assuming it has to do with some sort of a cache that is filling up with loads of crap and ruining the wifi activity but i tried googling for this and found nothing..
ideas anyone? (btw this happens on all roms: stock, existenz, beanstalker etc...)
its a hardware problem and not so uncommon look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531711
if you can take it to a customer support and if you cant sell it and again if you cant, then just get along with no wifi/bluetooth/NFC check all of them you should have problem with them too

to me that sounds like the start of it because mine was the same at the first few days flashing a new rom or something would help alot but then i just found out the only thing that was helping it to get fixed was the heat from the device not the rom, but it doesnt hurt to play around with it a little so go ahead and try some other roms or repairs.
you see good reception for wifi
you try to connect
at the authorizing or connecting you will see only one point of signal and connection would kinda like disappear.
this is how it was for me but at the first days it was random it was connected good and ready, when i would left the phone in stand by after a few minutes it would DC, so i thought its kind of a sleep mode malfunction or something but after a few days almost 1-2 weeks it turned out to be hardware problem like ohers so if you see any symptom like that start looking for service centers.
but i hope it would be a software problem for you, so good luck.
Well, once he connects he stays on for days, no problem there... Just sometikes he refuses to connect... Pressing the nfc button doesnt help...

What Wi-Fi channel is your network on and have you tried 5GHz?
Didn't look into those things, but it happens with all networks except ones without passwords

Have you tried deleting wpa_supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi and reconnecting to the network? (this will delete all saved passwords and settings for known wi-fi networks) also try to disable Auto IP in advanced wi-fi settings
Well the phone is qith my sister now, I got a new z1 so far wifi worka for her, it stoppes for a few hours yestarday but came back, I might try to flash. 310 and see if it works better with it. And the Wapa_sup sounds like a good idea. Btw z1 is also jittering some with wifi, it's a global Sony problem...

temp solution?
Well, it is probably a hardware problem. I have had the same problem, everything looks fine, but you can't connect to any network.
So, searched, reinstalled, etcétera, nothing worked. Untill I read a crazy solution link://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z-ZL-ZR/xperia-zr-wifi-association-rejected/td-p/516275/page/4
and found out that if you put pressure on the back of your pone right at the NFC chip, with a finger or so, the Wifi will come alive again.
Personally I had to hit my pone's back at that exact spot with my finger (for not damaging it with excesive force) a few times, but then suddenly it worked.
So, I am convinced it's a hardware problem. Hope it works for other people too.

D-415 GPS issues

Hello. I just got the D 415 from t-mobile. GPS is working, but not quite as well as it should be. Seems to lock on location and then go away or general flakiness. I have not rooted the phone yet. Are there any tips for settings that could be applied to the phone without rooting?

None that I'm aware of.
Most tweaks are just changing settings in the appropriate file within the devices file system. But root access is needed in order to do so.
I should mention that the GPS is a little flaky on my D415 as well. Might be the norm, dunno...

After owning this phone for three months, I'm worried it might be the antenna, since when I'm in the car, the signal will drop out, and pressing the back side of the phone against my sunroof always make it get its lock back. Might just be one of those issues where the antenna needs line-of-sight to the sky to work :/
In any case, Might be using my old windows phone as my primary nav. device unless there's a confirmed fix.
I have a D405. I used to have a samsung galaxy s3 mini -which was arguably a cheaper device- and had next to no issues recording my cycling rides on strava. On my D405, it won't even pick a GPS signal to begin with. Google maps GPS fix isn't as accurate as the sgs3 mini either, and sometimes well over a 100 meters or more discrepancy. There's another D405 owned by a family member and it's not faring much (if any) better... Thus, I don't think any kind of navigation can be possible with this device, which is a huge let down. Which is a shame because i was enjoying my experience very much with this device until i encountered the crappy GPS...
I have no problems with gps or strava , works very good. No difference with my Garmin.

I think LG used substandard GPS hardware. I have people reporting GPS works great but my own experience, even on stock, it seems flaky to me. GPS wont lock for me if I'm inside but it will outside.
Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk
In some models cars the gps connection is difficult, also some buildings, this has to do with the cage of faraday that shields from a good connection.
So i took my mum's d405 to my cycle ride yesterday and strava picked up a signal and recorded my entire ride just fine. Also, on GPS status & toolbox it will pick up 10 or more satellites out in the open. But my own d405 won't pick up a single satellite. I'm now thinking my d405 has a defective GPS antenna/hardware since both phones are on the same settings. I'll be taking it back to the shop soon.
Yes
I am having tons of GPS issues with my LG D415. It has been driving me crazy (location: Seattle). What's happened:
-Midway through a route, Maps will say "Lost GPS connection"
-Other times it will simply stop tracking the route and lose the position (assuming I am where I was 5 minutes ago); later it will lock into the GPS and begin giving directions again.
I've tried updating Maps. T-Mobile replaced the phone, assuming it was that particular phone that was the problem. But with the new LG D415, I have the same problems. Using GPS Status and GPS Test apps, It seems the phone has a hard time fixing on satellites. Not sure what to do at this point. May try and see if TMobile will take their phone back and try another network.
I worked on the initial deployment of GPS technology to DoD aircraft over 20 years ago and can tell you that the signal is weaker than you can imagine. It is below the noise level so it's not surprising when you can't lock it inside a building. The fact that different phones have different results speaks to the different antennae of the phones. Again, not surprising. Yes, having a clear view of the full sky is the best way to get optimum accuracy/results. What I've seen is that there's an error of about six feet when I use Google maps and my GPS. It could be anything from less than the best hardware resolving the signal to a position to a different earth model inside the phone's GPS hardware to Google maps being less than accurate. I figure that if I can get a position to six feet; I can avoid falling off a cliff by finishing the job with my eyes.

I just purchased 2 phones before I saw this.. I got them through ebay, brand new but with only 14 return. I'm trying to get LG to provide support for mine, have you done anything with yours?
I use GPS constantly, this phone has a weak antenna for GPS.
My phone was picking GPS signals very weakly and could not get a fix to any satellites. I explained my problems in the previous page in detail. The distributor where i live resisted swapping the phone with a new one, and i accepted a main board swap instead, performed under guarantee. They put another (hopefully a new) main board in the phone. But the problem still persists, which is baffling to say the least. Isn't the GPS antenna of this device on the main board ? Even worse still, the device now seems to restart itself randomly. In the ~2 hours i've spent with it after it's been returned to me, it restarted itself 3 times...
If I didn't have one more of the exact same device (which has no problems whatsoever) i would've said i was doing something wrong...
The same night i posted the above message, the phone went full kaput (never go full kaput ). They swapped the mainboard again but the device went bust before even leaving the shop. So there was no option other than to offer a new device. I'm now waiting for my new phone to arrive. Don't buy a phone from a 3rd world country. If this was in the USA or the UK, i know my device would've been swapped for a new one the first time, no questions asked. Choose something you won't have qualms about tossing in the trash if you have to buy.
My girlfriend just bought this phone from T-Mobile and immediately began complaining about GPS quality issues. It looks like there is no fix for this. Should she attempt to return it for a different phone? She has next to no directional skills and relies heavily on GPS.

GPS is flaky at best, even on stock. We all have different results for several builtin devices. Namely the camera as well as GPS. Other than that it's a pretty good device.

Sorry this is a month too late. Have her install GPS Status & Toolbox app and test the device in open terrain. It should easily pick 10+ signals within 20-30 seconds. If it's not, have her take it back for a swap.
GPS problem
I believe the GPS problem is a software issue, when I got the phone it used to get the signal very fast, 6 seconds or so, but now even with Gps fix app, it takes an eternity an then looses very easily, but gps fix even shows 20 or more sats but takes ages to lock the signal.

GPS sensor not working

Hello XDA guys. Your webpage is awesome.
I have a problem witn my Z3C (5833) for a month now and I have tried many things with no success. I hope you can help.
My phone was updated to Lollipop not long ago (May - June to 5.0.2) and in one moment (I cannot tell exactly when) the GPS sensor stopped working. The Wifi and Mobile location work, however the GPS is dead. Phone not unlocked or rooted. Original Stock ROM.
I go to the about phone - Diagnostics and test the GPS.. and it stays as "GPS is starting ... the GPS couldnt be started". When I download GPS test apps, they dont detect a single sattelite. I also tried the *#*#7378423#*#** GPS diagnostics, "purged assistance data", and it keeps on "waiting for location update" eternally
Because of this I wrote to Sony and they answered asking me to do a phone repair from Sony PC Companion. I did the phone repair and the problem was not solved.
Because of this I thought .. hey, maybe Lollipop is the problem. So I unlocked the bootloader and downloaded Emma (Sony recommended flash program for stock ROMs).
Emma downgraded my phone to 4.4.4 (23.0.A.2.93). However I still had the problem.
Next, I enter XDA and downloaded Flash tool. I downloaded one of your stock ROMs: 23.0.1.A.5.77 - Unbranded - Australia (1288-4214) {4.4.4}
I installed it and nothing. Same dead GPS.
So now I have no clue what might be the problem. Maybe the antenna got broken inside? How can I know if its a hardware or software issue?
Any help would be appreciated
Additional data:
Right now I have the 4.4.4 (23.0.A.2.93)
Baseband: 8974-AAAAANAZQ-00005-05
Kernel: 3.4.0-g0961cdf Build [email protected] #1 Tue Aug 19 19:48:36 2014
Thanks
If the issue still exist with different firmware i guess its a hardware failure.

Hi,
I have the same issues. It says since about two months. 23-26 sattelites found, but no signal and no fix. On 4.4.4 was OK, since updating nothing anymore.
I went back to Kitkat but still dead.
Anyone managed to get it back without sending it in??
Same problem...no GPS.anyone with a solution??? New motherboard? Soldering a antenna. Someone's got to have a fix for this problem.

Same problem and even tried to update to Android 6.0 with Marshmallow and still no GPS. 23-26 sattelites found, but no signal and no fix.
Any updates?
Hello,
I noticed since some time the same problem. I did a quick search on Google, and the problem seems more then usual after one of the official updates by Sony. The problem is discussed on the Sony Xperia Care support forums. All the affected user seems to suffer not from a complete signal outage, but rather from a substantially downgraded performance due to a bad SNR value and poor signal tracking, as can be seen by using the GPS Test app.
Resuming what has been written in the threads, all the following operations seems not to solve the issue:
- factory reset / repair with PC companion
- downgrading to an earlier release
- installing a custom ROM
- returning unit at service
What is annoying is the total disinterest by Sony that seems to ignore the problem, maybe they only want to take time to better understand the problem. If anyone should have news about this please let me know, because the only solution for this issue for now seems to be wating for a solution!
Thank you!
Same problem. Original Kitkat. In May worked excellent. During August I mentioned,it dosn't work. Some photos had changed infos about time and date of creating. On camera disappeared SCENE function in manual mode. When I allowed gps function on camera, gps worked immediately. Unfortunately only once. Camera Blocks gps?
Same problems here...
Hey, same issues here. I think it's just really slow to connect. I've recently sent my phone in for a warranty repair with Vodafone. It came back and was still broken.
Today however... I checked my phone and itw as working again (for about half an hour). Now I'm getting nothing again.
I've tried everything suggested, even down loaded AGPS file etc. But nothing seems to work.
Mega frustrating!!!
the only way for today is replacing motherboard... sony sucks. never again
I just wrote on the sony xperia support forum, somebody talks about a fix they provided for the xperia m series that seems to be affected by the same issue. But for our z series it seems not to be any fix at the moment.
After suceeding the GPS diagnostic test in the settings once, the GPS seems to be fully broken with no tracked satellite at all (before it was at least tracking a few satellites with a very poor SNR, now nothing according to GPS Test app). Repeating the GPS diagnostics now always results in an error. I'll try the warranty return but I'm pretty sure they'll give me a faulty device, as many other here and on the other forum have experienced.
Same problem ... just got the phone days ago.
Any solution ? or do I need to return it ...
I had issues with GPS, could see satellites but no fix on any. after expired warranty I rooted it and used 4 different ROMs, worked on all of them. instant lock on min 6 satellites. I am aware it could be HW issues but this is my experience with this problem.

I'm more and more convinced that this is a SW issue. Sony did something wrong when updating the firmware in August 2015. The fact that the satellites are visible comes in my opinion from the AGPS data, which loads the konwn satellite positions from the Internet. Instead, the problem seems to be the locking of a satellite signal, and it seems that something is disturbing the GPS antenna. If it comes out that this is really the issue, it is very disappointing that Sony didn't do absolutely nothing to solve the issue since last summer.
I'm using CM12.1 nigthlies and since about December/January I have the same problem. So a custom ROM does neither help nor prevent the problem. In addition to that, compass is uncalibrated and I don't get it calibrated again. Really sucks, last year I used the Z3C for lots of outdoor navigation, and suddenly something has happend which makes the device unusable...
I did root with kingroot and changed /etc/system/gps.conf as described in code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=81140#c695
Now my GPS is locking again.
Did not help for me. Currently I don't even get bad fixes, I get no fixes at all. Never ever, even after hours in the open. This sucks.
Hi,
Disabling google maps helped me. Before 0 sats visible, after disabling it locks within seconds.

I had the opposite experience, I had no lock, I was trying everything, then I opened maps and I had lock in under ten seconds.
I wonder if it's a glitch in accepting the google 'we're going to follow your movements' contract. Because until I agreed to that, gps didn't work.

Wifi, Wifi tethering and Bluetooth is not working

Hi,
I have Xperia ZR C5503 phone about a year. Until 2 months ago I was using Android 4.3. When Lollipop update distributed I upgraded it to 5.0.2.(official)
But sometime after the upgrade my phone started not connecting wifi. It sees the available networks but not connecting them. The signal drops to lowest level about a second while trying to connect and it fails. Also I was using my phone's wifi tethering feature to share my internet to my pc. However wifi tethering is also not working. I enable it but I think it can't work as router. And lastly, I tried to send a file to my phone via bluetooth and it also enables but no other device sees it. I also have low sound on the phone and I can't hear people I am talking to.
So I got frustrated this saturday and downgraded to official 4.4.4. But it was same. Later I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone, installed recovery software. With that recovery mode I cleared all caches but the problem still countinued. Lastly I installed an unofficial modified kitkat to my phone but those problems still appears. I don't know why this phone is so problematic for me. I don't know if it is software related or hardware related. Now that my warranty is no longer valid.
Could you give me some ideas to attempt to solve these issues?

Hi,
I had dropped my phone maybe 1 or 2 times but not from high heights.(~ a meter) But that was more than 5 months ago. I am having this issue since last 2 months and I am sure that I didn't drop or harm my phone in any way. However I wash my phone, do you think that could cause that? Just effecting wifi and bluetooth components?
It's not true about dropping the phone make that errors appear, there are many people with same issues, this phone have manufacturing problems, it's not software
My brother have same problem and he never dropped the phone. Just take a look in Sony forums.
Btw, my brother's phone lost Bluetooth connection, NFC, WiFi, Sometimes WiFi works making some pressing in the NFC spot some seconds, but sucks anyway :/

How can i make the wifi stable? it drops in and out sometimes.
Wifi problem
my sony xperia zr has the same wifi problem it says scanning trys to connect the signal drops and again starts scanning..
I stopped the wifi service and restarted my phone and the wifi worked for a day and again the same proble.
Do anyone has a solution for this??
I have been facing the issue of wifi not connecting, since my upgrade to 5.1.1.
My research has led me to believe that the issue may be software based. However I'm not an expert in the field. And i was thinking of downgrading back to an older version of lollipop when the wifi was not dropping.
Can anyone advise on whether this may be a smart move, or a completely useless one?
Also is there a diagnostic protocol I can go through that could help me figure out for sure whether my wifi is busted physically, as some of you suggest here.
Thanks
Josette
I've tried the method "settings global put tether_dun_required 0" but when i reboot my Z5, the value comes back to 1 ... (and of course wifi tethering is not working, going thru USB is ok)
I'm discussing various points here. Check out everyone of this point and get a fair idea from where problem is originating.
1) Go to WiFi Settings > Keep wifi awake during sleep. Here the string value should be "Always"
2) Under stock firmware there are numerous battery optimisation. Some of them kill WiFi so battery can saved. Now disable this features if you want no drops in WiFi.
3) If both of don't work, head over to Xperia ZR General > Search for your specific device FTF. Flash it via flash tool. This should reset all wifi drivers. Don't opt or apply any battery features and use WiFi. If still issue exits then you're in bad luck.
4) Check for other WiFi access points. Check your own router's webpanel and see somewhere broadcasting and multicast signals are ticked. Also check your WiFi is at 100% of it's performance ( 100% transmit power)
5) Hardware issue. Most of the software part is not causing issues so it's safe to say a hardware issue is causing this. Now, long time ago when 5.0 was released for our device I read article regarding ZR. The user had constant WiFi drops. His issue was that his WiFi soldering was poor inside hardware. He soldered it again and his wifi drops were no longer a problem.
People also experience various bluetooth/tethering issue. It's important that people should gain knowledge about firmware flashing techniques so that device would get reset and you yourself could diagnose the problem. 1 in 0.7k unit has software/hardware issue in manufacturing. Sony provides diagnostic app, search in play store ( I'm not sure about this). Hope this answer helps many.

Hi,
I want to buy XZ1 compact but I am reading this phone is restarting on its own, and has wi-fi and bluetooth problems. Can anybody please say, if those or other "critical" bugs are solved? I searched but it is hard to say for sure...
Basically I am quite depended on the phone and I really want it to be reliable. My current Motorola restarted maybe once in three years, so I am bit nervous about this.
Thanks
I'm on the latest firmware and I don't have any of that.
That said, I was on the November one for the last few months and also never had any of that.
That's the problem with forums like that, you're likely to only see the rare negatives of any device.
No issues for me.. smooth as butter.. great battery life.. LDAC working flawlessly with Sony headphones etc
Just wish I could turn the charging LED off
Also keep in mind if you unlock bootloader and load custom rom you're on your own. I havent gone that route this time and have had literally 0 issues in months
Okay, thank you, it seems it will be fine. I won't do custom rom but yeah root + xposed is a must for me.
I also got dropping WIFI. Really annoying and nothing seems to fix it.

Wifi working fine here. Check the settings on your router.
The restarts seem to be fixed. I think it was a regression with the previous one or two versions. The phone was fine, then it went from one or more a day, to none with the latest update. Wifi hasn't improved, but I did not find it that bad to begin with. Once it connects, it stays connected. It's that original connection where it sometimes decides "wifi? I don't have a wifi radio." Bluetooth is still terrible - works fine with a BT speaker, but is nearly useless with a car stereo.
Only 1 problem persists - Smart Lock don't work, it just a blank page. Can be resolved by restarting the device.
