Only 19GB free space? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated my HTC One with Android revolution from 9 to 10.1 but I only have 19GB free space now, is this correct? I cant see any of my previous files on file manager & dont see how the os would take 13gb??
Thanks

You flashed without wiping, and android 4.2.2 has a different internal structure, so your old files remain at its old location.

don't worry about it... really don't
the trouble is that i only have about 4.5MB left of internal storage even though i've set the phone to install apps to SD
As far as I know, the APK's are not stored on the phone. So that will not make a difference. If you are new to android... two things.
1. Welcome to the world of awesomeness! :]
2. One unfortunate thing you will have to learn about the G1, is that the internal storage is rather terrible. No app can be COMPLETELY moved to the SD card, thus. Even with just 10 to 15 or so apps, you will probably be running into the "low space" error.
Are you rooted, and/or have a custom ROM installed?
yeah, i'm running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0
I've deleted a couple of apps that didn't run very well so i've freed up i little more space.... i guess i'll see how i go.
Cheers Guys

It changes your partition sizes so for example lets say you have 3 equal partitions all are 100mb
100 cache
100 data
100 system
You end up taken a bit from other partitions like cache to make data larger
i've had another look and it seems fairly simple.
my system partition is currently 90MB but that's pretty much full does that sound about right?
also how big does the cache need to be, mine is currently 30MB but i'm only using 3 or so. what sort of things are stored in the cache? i've been having a problem with SMSs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217173)will it help or hinder that?
and will applying this mod wipe everything i already have installed?

20.29 gigs OTHER?????

why do i have 20 gigs of other being used? i just got the phone recently and have no music and a few apps. i am running android revolution and do have some backups. how the BLEEP do i figure out whats taking up all that space!!
You probably have a few big ass games. The "Games" section only tells you the size of the APKs, not the whole game data that gets downloaded afterwards. For example, The Dark Knight is almost 2GB, and PROBABLY goes into the Other category. I might be wrong though, I don't have the phone with me at the moment
Since you installed ARHD, all your stuff from before was moved from before you installed it to data/media. Use root explorer to go there and delete everything since you probably don't need any of it If you had what you needed backed up already. When I installed ARHD I had over 30gb of other and it was because even though I did a full wipe, it was still all kept and all my music and pictures were moved there.

and actually for some reason it keeps getting stuck at 10.26 gb and wont finish the rest of the 10.97 file transfer to my computer. what the hell is going on
You need to use something with root access to your files or /data will be empty. I know e's file explorer can do it but you need to enable something. I just bought root explorer and did it. And if you want to flash PAC rom use titanium back up to back up all your apps, then move music and media to your mac. On the PAC rom thread there should be a short list of instructions on how you flash if you are flashing from a sense based Rom to a AOSP based ROM.

[Q] Safely Format Internal Storage

Hello all, and pardon the newbie question from me, as I've only really used nexus or AOSP ROMs on my devices.
I was searching the forums, and I found quite a few posts that were asking for help on fixing formatted internal storage resulting in a corrupted OS, but I was wondering how I would go about clearing my internal storage to make more room?
I'm currently using ARHD 12.1 (About to upgrade to 12.2) and I'm confused on why I only seem to have 16GB free with about 13+GB being used in the "Other" section.
I have a backup of my apps (1.5GB including data) and a backup of my ROM in TWRP (2.5GB) Even adding another 1GB just to make my point... would only render 5GB total used... so where is the other 8GB of data being stored?
Any help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having 19.86 GB used, 8.6 in the "other" category
a opened the internal storage on my PC and added all the folder's sized by a calculator and the sum was about 12.65 GB.
almost same as yours
there is a video on youtube (I didn't watch it yet) about a fix for the One's internal memory after the 4.2.2 update.

I always make a backup every week, and after new ROMs. I know where the TWRP backup is, and I have moved it out, but there is still A LOT of space being used.
The settings in HTC Sense 5 aren't all that detailed, tapping the text in the storage settings works on pure AOSP ROMs but not in Sense.
The file explorer doesn't add up, and I feel that there are a lot of unused files there that were left over from previous ROM installs.

[POSSIBLE SOLUTION]
I was able to find this video that seems like it will do exactly what I want.
I'm going to try it later tonight and I will report back. Its basically just wiping the internal SD Card through TWRP (or choice recovery) and sideloading the Zipped ROM back to the phone. A bit riskier than I would like, but it seems like it will do the trick. Thanks for all the help though
Okay, so by following the video tutorial by TheSmokingAndroid found HERE I was able to clear out the space. Here is an "after" screenshot for comparison. This is a fresh install of ARHD 12.2 with only the Google apps installed.
I hope this helps some people regain the space lost in the 4.1 to 4.2.2 transition.
MODs - Please mark this thread as "solved" as it has fixed my original issue. Thanks

so this is how you fix it
1- get EX Explorer (or any Root Explorers) you have to be Rooted
2- go to your Root folder wich means "/"
3- there is a folder called "Storage"
4- inside there is 3 folders
5- if you will flash ARHD 12.2 i suggest you to delete every thing in that folder (it will delete your files like music, documents,,,etc)
6- if this didnt work your can install RUU and it will fix it

[Q] How much used Storage in 'other' on HTC one

Hi
I'm very new to Android. I just flashed ARHD 4.3 to my rooted HTC one. Before that it was on rooted stock 4.1.2. Now, when I look at the 'other' section in storage in my settings info I have over 7gb of data in there.
Before I flashed ARHD, I wiped cache, dalvik cache, performed factory wipe, formatted data, system and cache. I was pretty thorough.(I even formatted my sd/data and lost root so I had to to adb Sideload superSU and adb sideload my ROM from my pc - not sure if I needed to sideload superSU but it seemed the right thing to do but yes, I'm still learning!)
Anyway, my question is how much data should be in Storage, Other on a 32GB Htc one? 7gb seems too much. Have I not wiped something? Is there possibly an issue with flashing that ROM. I don't seem to be able to post in that forum as I'm noob, so I'm asking here.
Thanks in advance...

This is my situation now.. I have the 32gb model and im using AndroidRev 20.2. i JUST flashed from 20.1 yesterday and did a wipe of dalvik, and a regular wipe, i didnt do the extra steps you did but now i have 15gb in other being used. it SHOULD be around 6 or less because i have a couple apks and Roms(PSP,NDS,PS1) not "ROMS" being held in my phone. I was going to back up all system data and user apps with titanium back up data but now its saying "insuffiecient free storage". I have 11 gb of storage left. Should I just copy all files to my computer from the SD? I also would like to know how to wipe away as much data and storage as possible without removing ADR 20.2

7GB of reserved space sounds about right. I also have only 25.49GB of free storage after a full format.

Change the TiBu backup folder in preferences
MENU -> Preferences -> Backup folder location -> Detect! -> Whole Device
It should find one in "/storage/emulated/legacy/<backup folder>", select that one. That should fix the insufficient space bug.

What was the result of "detect", didn't it give you two locations for the backups
In either case, you won't need to re-unlock or re-root, worst case you format your sd-card (ie internal storage) using recovery. Don't forget to backup your pictures, music, etc to your PC first.

i only changed the name of the external card..now this maches m8 external card.....the only thing that not work ..it still shows the old partition space...but the script work...if you make a photo for example it store now in the external sd card instead of the internal...also if you look on how to test the script in original thread..you will see it work...
anyway...maybe someone can have a look to the script to get last things done...will attach it here...
also for the future...i like to have the whole data mounted to the sd...if anyone can help or have ideas...let me know
thx

Any way to swap that back? All my music is on my external, no space... =/
*Edit*
Root is broken as well. I even downloaded and flashed version 2.40 from his thread and no go. App freezes when either trying to give permissions or you try and open the app.
Already have the latest supersu.zip on sd card and flash after all of this 5.0 roms in general. Trust me nothing directed art this build or OP.
Safe?
I am not following the concerns with this ROM.
Is it safe to flash or will I lose my SD card or Root if I do?
Thanks
Aussie
Is that script specifically for this ROM or all other versions of any ROM ? I'm actually interested as everything I download gets downloaded to internal sdcard, and not external. Is the script automatic ? Or does one need to run it as an automatic option (run at boot:script manager) ? I'm on a 4.4.4 ROM, so this script is the first time I've seen anything like it...

Tested the script (the one that taken from your ROM.zip)
In a way ... it is a very good script as it mounts the whole external_sd as internal_sd. So the original internal_sd is basically not in use as storage by the system. But users can manually use the original internal_sd to store his files such as musics, movies & etc.
So to use this script, it is advisable on a clean flashed ROM.
I tested this script on my personal ROM. The whole external_sd now mounted as internal_sd. And the original internal_sd now mounted as intSdCard. So any app that rely on its data in internal_sd will fail. Simple solution is to move its data from intSdCard to newly mounted internal_sd.
Now .. I can understand your idea to have the whole data mounted to original internal_sd. And I believe the whole data already mounted to internal_sd. Reason is, in MTP the Internal storage now read the external_sd.
So... need to find a fix to show the right storage space instead of the old space storage .. then we can mount a bigger capacity sdcard as internal_sd

Sorry guys..I am I'll.stomach flu..hope that tomorrow will be a better day
@Alex-V I hope i'm not asking a stupid question here but with that script of yours, does that mean that if I install apps, the apps and they're data will go into my external SD card instead of the M8's internal storage?
Will you also mind posting some recommended kernel settings for the first time users?
I saw that I have to use the firmware posted, can I just use back sense firmware as I don't have s-off?

1. The apps and their data still go to data partition but their \Android\data\ and \Android\obb will go to external_sd instead of internal storage.
2. Kernel settings - Alex-V is the right person to advise as I don't use any custom kernel.
3. Not necessarily to use that particular firmware, you can use your 4.4.4 Sense firmware .. maybe yours is same as mine 3.32.707.9

Guess my SD card has to be fast and big for performance to be smooth? As for the kernel, i'm using stock at the moment. We do have the same firmware by the way
