google search bar - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I wanted to know how to to use the Google search bar to search the phone, like contacts sms, media, etc instead of going on to search the web... much like the iphone search function...

Go into the settings of Google now, there will be phone search option, add which apps you want to include their data in search

thanks a lot it works but it does not search for my music , media etc ? any way to do that ?

There is Google play music and play movies option in phone search, tick them and music and media will be searched
See screenshots
Probably you don't have play music installed, it depends on apps if they are integrated with Google now search, MX player does shows in list of apps but I haven't found any music app except play music

Music app - how do I stop it listing songs aLphabetically?

I can't find it! Anyone can help?
The main list can only be viewed that way but you can make a play list and then change the order of the songs to whatever you want it to be
change the music app and get a decent music player (PowerAmp sounds like a good candidate) + extras!
In google music application chose folder instead of recent, etc...

HTC One bookmarks and spotify music

I own a macbook and have a lot of bookmarks on my safari browser, lots of them contained within folders. I used my mybookmarks app to transfer them to my htc one but they are just in one massive list, no folders, i was able to also import them on my google chrome browser, but same thing, they are still in a huge list.
Is there anyway around this?
I also have a spotify account, how to I transfer songs to the stock music player app on the one....?
Anybody know...........
Dont know about the bookmarks but with Spotify you dont own the music, you stream it with the ability to download tracks on the premium version. Download the Spotify app from the Play Store and log in using your account and youll find all your playlists are synced. It integrates very nicely with Sense and the lockscreen so acts pretty much like the HTC Music App.

I have the premium version and yes I can download to listen offline but would just be nice r to transfer them to my music
I presume if I cancel Spotify my downloads are still there

No, you lose them. Spotify is a rental service.

[Q] Is there a way to control music player from the watch ?

Hi all,
I have not been able to find any way to control the Google Music or any other application from the watch. I was expecting not being able only to launch the music application from it, but also to control the volume or to switch the song.
I have found in Google Play Store applications like this (trial and then allow you to purchase the license):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.barkside.music
If there is no native way to do this, i really cannot understand as i see this one of the most logical applications to use from the watch.
Cheers.
You can play, pause, skip forward and back tracks with the Google Play Music app and Android Wear directly.
When playing music it should automatically display on the watch.
If not, check and make sure you haven't muted the app.
Music Boss works for most players.

I haven't muted the application. The strange thing is that just in the moment i hit the play button from the phone (Sony Xperia Z3 with Android KitKat 4.4.4) the notification for the music appears, but hides immediately. Maybe its an issue from my phone.
Thank you very much for the quick answer .

Thank you, i will try to continue searching the reason why the Google Music default notification disappears immediately, but if not, i may try Music Boss.

I'm trying to determine the benefit of Music Boss. I have used it with the 3 main audio apps I tend to use, all of which notify to my watch (TuneIn Pro, Sirius, and Google Play Music). They are set up in Music Boss as well. So when any of them are playing, I have two different cards - one for the app itself and one for Music Boss. I can't seem to see how Music Boss gives offers anything beyond the separate apps, other than a common interface. Can anyone with more experience using this app tell me what i'm missing? Thanks!
same here, I found that android wear supports quite a few music apps out-of-the-box.
like vanilla music - they havent released a wear-related update afaik, but when I play music with the app it shows up as a card on my phone with play-pause and I can swipe into a next-previous-vol up-vol down screen
Sony Walkman, Google Music and Spotify works on my watch. No need for Music Boss or anything. Phone is Z2.

I finally found the problem. Sony Xperia has a free application called SmartKey:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.extras.liveware.extension.smartkey
With this application it is possible to assign extra functions to the button to answer calls in the headphones.
Anyway, this application was interfering with the SmartWatch option to show the controls in the watch graphic interface. Removing it or disabling it solves the problem.
Thank you very much for the help .

[Q] Non-streaming music app

Google play music has been a letdown being a "locker" and I don't use Spotify or Pandora. SoundCloud is supposed to be a partner but they haven't updated their app yet... I currently use PlayerPro, are there any other music apps compatible that will play music stored on my phone? Ideally supporting POPM and ReplayGain ID3 tags

You can use Google play music to play stuff on your phone.
If the music you want is already uploaded to Google music, just download it to your phone from the google music app and it will play offline

Have been doing this to an extent, but GPM is just not good enough. I already put a lot of time in to my collection and GPM is requiring even more effort. It also likes playing my ringtone/notification oggs. Very annoying.
The whole idea of this thread is to not use GPM.

How to change Google assistant default apps?

Hi can anyone help me? I told Google assistant to play some music on my new note 8 and it asked which music player I wanted to use. I selected Samsung music but that doesn't automatically play the artist I chose. Now Google assistant always uses Samsung play for music. How do it tell if to select a new music player?
I reset the phone default apps but all that achieved was that I needed to allow permissions all over again for all my other apps and assistant did not change anything.
