It is probably a hardware problema. Contact your vendor and they should give you a new one.
When in call press the volume up button to insure the earpiece volume

If you have warranty replace it
Same issue
I know it's an old thread, but since I have pretty much the same issue, I didn't want to open a new one.
In Summary - Starting today, nothing comes out of the earpiece, grill is clean. Speaker, headset, BT - all works fine.
No recent drops or software changes in the last few months since the installation of Zaiben RC10, which, BTW, works perfectly.
I opened the back of the phone, applied a small current to the earpiece connectors and the speaker itself seems to be working fine.
The phone is out of warranty, or else I would have brought it to a service center.
Does anyone have any idea what else could I check? Anyone had this or a similar issue and managed to fix it?
Thanks,
Eran

hi was talking on the phone and all of a sudden i cant hear the other person.
However if i put the call on loud speaker i can hear the person on the phone.
So i tried changing the roms from tonys t build to pac rom, that didnt work so nvflashed the phone with progmaq nvflash and mic still aint working.
Unless someone can resolve my issue through a software change, am i able to repair this speaker? and if so roughly a cost and where (if in england) would be helpful.
Or is the phone best to be scraped or given to the kids to play with?
have you tried a headset??

Good idea mate
Just tried it and the sound works through headset so its 100% the top speaker has stopped working
Massive shame as with Tony's ROM the phones great
Looks like I will throw the phone away and just find a new one... Any suggestions?
Don't want s4 as I will break it in seconds build quality is crap.
Maybe a HTC one or Sony experia z?

I had the same problem, i think your ear speaker, not the LOUD ONE, the internal, is bad, try sending it to repair. mine was like yours, tech replaced the speaker and all was ok

I am having an issue with my standard htc one.
When i am on calls the person on the other end is saying that i sound very quite. I have had this with a couple of different people i have called.
The phone is a brand new replacement from o2.
I at first thought it was due to the case i have on the phone blocking the mic however having removed the case and tried another test call the problem is still there.
Any suggestions of what to try or why this is
anyone else had this?
thanks

Call your provider reps and get another new model...
Just had it replaced by o2 as the last one had a random vibrating and overheating issue.
Getting fed up with constantly having to change this one....seems to be one problem after another.
Any possible fix or cause?

the phone was purchased on o2 contract by a friend who then didnt like it/get on with it so i bought it off him. The phone i received had an issue with random vibrating so he returned it for a brand new replacement.
All i have done is unlocked the phone (by code) so i can use it on my network which is 3
it would seem that the htc one seems to be plagued with a number of different issues and no sooner than you manage to sort one out by exchanging it you end up with another problem!
Its getting very frustrating as i so want to like this phone....the first phones i had (bought sim free) had issues with captive buttons and build quality which led me to change back to an iphone.
After a couple of months decided to try the htc one again in the hope that all the early issues were resolved and here we are again with yet different problems.
i had this issue too, i think its related to Radio and Firmware,
just flash 2.24 and see if it fixes it, if not try ARHD 12.1 (With Wipe)

glad its not just me then, was yours an o2 one also?
really hope it can be sorted by firmware....can you tell me which firmware yo put on yours please..a link would be great
im guessing i have to unlock the bootloader and put a recovery and root again? i did this with the last one to try and resolve the random vibrating issue however that turned out to be a hardware problem
I have read some issue about problems with the mics on the phone just wish there was a way to be sure before flashing just in case i have to send it to htc to get sorted...would rather avoid sending away though
thanks for the help

just locked on my phone and it says the software is 2.24.206.1 so does this mean that it must be a hardware issue or is it still worth flashing something?
Hej, had the same problem and thought it would be the rom (cm-10.1-20130706-NIGHTLY-m7ul).
Well, it became apparent that it was the genuine HTC double flip case, who seemed to cover the micro just next to the micro usb connection.

thats why i thought it might be the case however the problem is the same with the case removed (poetic case) so dont think its that. I just dont want to unlock bootloader etc and risk messing up my return to htc if it is definatley a hardware issue.
Getting really annoying this now though as the rest of the phone is perfect, build, captive buttons, ear speaker etc
Yeah, seems to be a good idea not to mess around with roms while the device itself ain't running as it should.
Just had a look at the poetic case and the hole for the micro seems rather big, so it seems unlikely that this is the problem.
How about the hole being filled by like, dirt? Just had to think about my htc one. Sometimes the speaker grill is filled with some tobacco leftovers who float around in the same pocket as in which I put the phone. Even though it seems rather unlikely, no possibility should be left unregarded.

thanks again
i have considered the possibility of the mic hole being blocked although the phone is only a day old. I am pretty sure though that the phones supplied by o2 to replace faulty phones are actually reconditioned phones so it is possible that could be fluff or blocked, On looking it does seem that the hole for the mic is rather small and i am wondering if that in the machining process that maybe that holes is not opened up as much as it should be or is not clean....think i might try opening the hole abit using the sim ejecting tool or a pin. Just a bit concerned about the possibility of damaging the mic but then if it is faulty anyway then i guess i have nothing to lose.
will report back in a bit

i had 2.19 running 4.1.2 then i upgraded to 4.2.2 and 2.24 ARHD 12.1, the Proximity sensor is fixed and call quality has been improved but sometime it gets bad.
as for O2, i am running M7 unlocked (international)
here is the Link, just flash this ROM (Firmware, Radio, and OS is included) "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023"
Ok so I have tried to make the Mic hole bigger/clean it out and and first couple of test calls it seemed it improved it. However it seems almost now like the problem is intermittent as other calls have shown the problem to still be there, this is really getting frustrating now.
Can it really be software related? Is there anymore conclusive tests I can do to help identify the problem.

BUMPPPP!
I got this problem all of a sudden
Did you solve the problem op?
I've isolated my problem to the bottom mic, cause recording videos is mainly fine (guessing it records only with one of the mics now though) and when I put it on speakerphone it works. However when I take a normal call, or use gnow it doesn not really register. When I really yell it comes through softly.
People on the other side of the phone can't hear me well, I have a feeling something's stuck in my mic port
Thanks

I've flahed the latest firmware still getting mono output it's an HW problem.
I'll send it back to Handtec....
Got the same issue right now... The left side output stopped working, exactly like you.
At first I thought it might be caused by residual water in the headphone jack socket but now it's been 24h since I last washed the device.
Did you send and get your device back since you opened this thread ? Did Sony's warranty cover the repair ?

I've got the exact same issue, left audio channel stopped working. I tested this with 3 different headsets. I've sent the phone to my repair centre which have sent the phone to Sony repair centre.
They've contacted me and said that the phone could not be repaired and I will get a new replacement phone. Now I just have to wait until I get the new phone delivered.
If you've got the same issue, I would advise you to send it to your repair centre as the phone would be replaced with a brand new one while it is still in warranty.
EDIT: This issue just appeared out of nowhere on my device, not after being washed with water.

My issue was actually caused by a bit of fluff that got into the headphone jack. I took a thin metal stem and managed to get it out, my stereo output is back now :highfive:
Hi,
I had the same problem too, but couldn't see any fluff within the port.
Factory reset didn't work.
Luckily I was within the 7-days "satisfied or exchanged" period so I just went to the Sony store and got a new device.
Cheers,

Same thing happened to me. I had no audio on the left side of my headphones and the headphones were new. I used a flashlight and looked inside the jack. Saw a bit of lint in there. Took a hair pin as the end of hair pins aren't sharp metal to prevent damaging the jack. Used the hairpin and got the lint it. Works fine now.

Like title, anyone having similar situation like that ??? 3 normal headset has been tested, basically the phone has something to do with that. Did factory reset and all stuff, nothing works.
There were lots of people suffering that with the same pattern as mine with just left earplug

Did you try a bluetooth handset? Anyway I know you are in complicated situation but in this case the best thing is send it back to repair via warranty.

I wouldn't be that sure.. I had the same problem, left audio channel didn't work in headphones. I tried 3 different headsets. That problem was in the phone. Not entirely too late, at least it helped me.
Been trying to find a solution for this same problem and was beginning to think a repair was needed.
Just to confirm...with a needle, after clearing out a clump of fluff sound now plays through both earphones of the 5 different headsets that wouldn't work before.
For anyone else trying to fix this problem either now or in the future, its at least worth a try.
Thanks rvzek
I've noticed that my left earplug have lower volume than the right one. Did someone had this problem?
I cannot remember what caused this, but it's only on the Sony headset and not other. Others are working fine.
Hello All,
My Z1 has recently begun to give off a sort of feedback when it vibrates (via the speakers).
I've ran diagnostic tests on my phone and all tests seem to come back positive and error-free.
However, when I run the Vibration test, sometimes the vibrator works perfectly fine (for about two runs), and then it vibrates with the negative "ZzzzzZzzZ" sound.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue with their Z1? Perhaps someone else (if anyone is experiencing it as well) can further elaborate on the issue. Would really like to get this issue fixed without having to send it back to Sony :crying:
I have the same problem with my Z1 (6903). There's a weird buzzing sound from the speaker right after the vibrator activate. Would love to be able to fix this without sending to Sony as well.

Ahh, that's unfortunate. I live in the Bahamas, so doing that is pretty difficult for me at the moment. Were you able to go to any Sony store, or did you have to go directly to a service center? How long did you have to wait for your replacement?

Hi, I'm also having the squeaky vibration problem. My phone is about 6 months old and I've been having this noisy vibration squeak for at lease 6 weeks now. I'm running slimkit evo 8.1 on a unlocked bootloader. Before I try to get it fixed by Sony, do I need to reset back to stock and lock my bootloader?
Could anyone give me some pointer to what I could say to get the phone exchanged for a brand new one? I can't be without a phone for 2-3 weeks (estimated service time by resale store).

Hi macooz,
Sorry for the late reply. If you are sending it back to Sony, you should always revert back to Stock, as custom firmwares void your warranty.
You could simply tell them that your Vibration Motor is not functioning properly (giving off a squeaky noise instead of an actual vibration) and you would like for it to be either repaired / replaced or have your entire phone exchanged for a new one.

I agree with you. Issue is that because the phone is encased in gorilla glass, it makes it a bit difficult to change any parts on your own. Disassembly videos are available on YouTube, but who wants to take the risk of breaking their phone's casing and then have to replace additional parts?

Hi,
No work around , besides trying to do it yourself and losing your warranty.
Was without my phone for a month and a half. Eventually got it replaced.

Unfortunately, I agree with Soka on this one. I have had the replacement Vibrator for months now, but a little reluctant to open my device as it requires heating and having to purchase new adhesives and so on. I am getting those items in the very near future though, so I'm going to go ahead and do it!
My best piece of advice would be to purchase a replacement back (in case you crack / break your original one while removing it) and replacement adhesives before actually performing the DIY Fix.
Hi there Im facing this problem too, I open a new thread but then @soka pointed me to this one, I record a video from the sound
they had already replace the vibrator and the main board, but the issue still continue, here is the thread I open:

Hope to get fixed or replaced soon
Well, finally fixed my vibrator problem. I opened the back of my phone using a Hot Air Gun and pry tools, then replaced the vibrator module. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only valid solution.
