S-OFF refers to a signature check and write access security in locked HTC phones. When it's on, the phone checks for signatures on certain portions of the software - the radio, recovery, certain parts of the system drive, and a few others - and keeps the user from writing to restricted areas. S-OFF grants users access to essentially every part of the phone, without the signature an security check, and opens up parts of NAND memory as well. Now, here's where things get esoteric: modders already had access to pretty much all of this before, thanks to a change in the way HTC is handling signature checks on the One.

Specifically, users with S-Off can flash a custom HBOOT with extended commands, perform a SIM unlock, downgrade to older versions of official firmware, and remove the "relocked" text from the HBOOT screen, among other smaller tweaks

I used Revone to s-off so I can't tell you much about moonshine. But I do know that moonshine flashes a custom hboot automatically so you will need to flash a stock hboot before you command s-on or you will permanently hard brick your phone...

Yes it does follow last step only because you dont need to convert your phone to google edition only flash the RUU
You sure? Do I have to relock bootlaoder? Thanx for the help

You can't flash that ruu. Its an unsigned zip for s-off phones. Flash a stock GE rom, flash the stock recovery (you can pull the recovery from that ruu.zip), and lock the boot loader.

Is there a reason that you can't s-off and flash the ruu?

I would take a look at this link for information relevant for 4.3. It may be possible to downgrade the hboot to 1.44 and S-OFF then install the GPe ruu.
http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...one-into-htc-one-with-sense-no-bloat-0148220/
I have not tried this so I do not know for sure, but it may be worth reading the information in the link.
I can't confirm this, as I don't have a GE but I'd say that link is bull. You need s-off to downgrade hboots, and you can't get s-off with hboot 1.54, which the GE shipped with. Since no one in their comment section has got it working I'd say its a no go. Feel free to try though.

---------- Post added at 05:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:49 PM ----------
Also, as I said before, the GE ruu is an unsigned zip made by devs to convert an s-off phone to complete GE. It will accomplish exactly the same thing as flashing a stock GE rom and recovery, since the OP's phone is a real GE and already has the Google firmware. But either way would work, provided you can get s-off. Obviously the solution that doesn't require s-off has a much lower chance of messing things up though...

[Q] Root, S-Off HTC One 1.31.651.2

Hi guys,
I'm getting a new HTC One, as my current device is having screen issues. My replacement will be in later this week, and it will almost certainly have the new update (1.31.651.2) installed. My old device was able to be S-Off'd using Moonshine, as it is running a supported version (1.29.651.10.) That's the newest version Moonshine supports, so my question is how will I S-Off my new phone? Will Revone work?
Thanks in advance!
Nick M.

One very important thing with s-off is if you get soft bricked on 1.31 you will need s-off to be able to use the 1.29 RUU since as of now there is no 1.31 RUU. That's just one example.

I'm not even sure if I need S-Off at this point, I'm having an entirely different problem, but this method is perfect for downgrading.
I have an HTC One, 1.31 stock, rooted, android 4.1, no changes have been made whatsoever
As most of you may know, android 4.3 OTA was just released, being rooted it seems OTAs will refuse to install
I understand the main fix to the problem is using the stock recovery, which I've obtained and flashed with no avail using multiple stock recoveries.
Including the recovery in the framework folder of the 4.3 update itself.
I've tried plenty of other methods such as "OTA Root Keeper", again, with no avail..
Looking at the options I have left, it looks like downgrading to a 1.29 RUU using this DD method to remove root and (hopefully) be able to install 4.3 via stock recovery, however I'm not interested resetting my phone.
Again.
I'm curious if someone here has another suggestion to install the OTA Android 4.3 update that won't require me to lose everything!
I'd definitely be willing to throw some $$$, "PayPal donations" as someone else offered, for a fix.
Thanks!

As far as I can figure, the stock rooted 4.3 Sprint ROM here won't include the firmware (radio, etc). Not sure if updating the ROM without the firmware will cause problems (I've read some people's touch screens are going out).

HTC one M7 unlocking through HTC one Dev not working

Hi,
I've been trying to unlock the phone so I can root device. However, when I type in the token on the website, I get
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed.
I recently purchase the phone and I'm on hboot 1.54
Is it even possible to unlock the phone now?
Thank you.

S-OFF is available now

I found this information in the other forum, but i haven't try
http://rumrunner.us/
Wait, what’s this? Why does this download page look so different?
After careful consideration and some testing, we’ve decided to release a more “universal” version of rumrunner. This version will work on multiple htc devices, so many we can’t possibly test them all. Which devices? Well….
HTC One
HTC One X/XL
HTC One Max
HTC One Mini
HTC One S (s3 and s4 models)
HTC Evo 4G LTE
HTC First
HTC Butterfly
HTC Butterfly S
Probably others. In fact, this should work with nearly every modern Qualcomm based HTC device. Yep, you read that correctly.
Also, the prerequisites have changed a bit. We now support rooted devices (locked BL is fine, as long as you have root) and also custom roms. We DO prefer users have an unsecure kernel, but that is not required. If you are running a custom rom, you should ensure that:
1.) root access is enabled for adb.
2.) pay attention to your device through the process to grant any superuser and/or adb rsa requests that pop up
Devices that cannot obtain normal root/bootloader unlock (e.g. Verizon HTC one) will still need to use the custom downloads specific to the device an mainver.

If I understand it correctly, your device needs to be unlocked using the htcdev unlock code. Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of having s-off since we're trying to hide the fact that the phone has been tampered with for warranty purposes? Also, s-off allows upgrading of firmware with new base. I haven't seen a corresponding firmware for 4.3 anywhere yet.

Actually, it depends where you are. The volume rocker of my previous one x cracked. Their first line of defence is warranty void because bootloader unlocked. I said it says may, not will, void warranty. Htc kept insisting void, but I got it replaced after threatening small claims court. So I do know what I am talking about through experience.
