For me s off allows u to change bootanimations or splash screens,I don't need titanium backup to remove system apps bloatware,I could make my bootloader say locked instead of relocked, but most of all u cud flash a rom without having to use a pc afterwards to flash a boot.img and the kernel can be change when flashing the rom,s off also allows u to downgrade and upgrade firmware at will

If you have unlocked your bootloader, you can simply install ClockworkMod recovery in FASTBOOT USB mode using the command:
fastboot flash recovery [path to recovery.img]
You need to search, read and study to be successful.

Power off your phone. Then hold down the Volume Down key and then press and hold the Power button. This will boot you into the bootloader and you will see the HBOOT screen.
The version number is near the top.

There is a sticky post in this General section for gaining S-OFF when you have HBOOT 1.16 and above (that would include 2.01.0001).
There is also a post in the Development section that references this sticky post that some users have found to be easier to read and understand.
What you are asking for has already been documented and posted. Now it is up to you to read, study, understand and execute.

I always s-off my devices. It makes sure that no matter what you can always root your phone. I do this with my parents phone. I root them and s-off and then unroot. Therefore if I were to ever sell the phone or need to root for some reason I would have that option. And yes a RUU will clear everything out, after you have relocked your bootloader
RUU won't relock your bootloader, AFAIK.
you need to do that via adb. However, it will say "relocked" not "locked"
That's where S-off comes in. It allows you to have the benefits of root (mods) and the benefits of stock (warranty).

To flash a custom rom, you need to unlock your device via htc-dev. I'll put a tutorial video link below.
If you already have the 4.2.2 update, don't worry about new firmware for now. Otherwise, you don't need S-OFF depending on your CID to flash the custom 4.2.2 rom and firmware.
To do a rom swap, you don't need new firmware unless it's a newer base which also got a firmware update from htc

You need to be completely stock to install update properly. S-off and locked/unlocked bootloader don't influence on update. I have bootloop if I lock my bootloader so I don't lock it before installing updates.
And if I posted that I have SuperCID - it automatically means that I have S-Off.
