moisture on screen - Nexus 7 General

Hi guys, i got a nexus 7 around september last year..everything was great until i started getting ghost touches here and there...the tablet would start acting on it's own, swiping around home screens, randomly opening apps and stuff.. so i rang up Asus and ask for a replacement unit...the new unit seems to be fine but yesterday there ghost touches were back again.. then i noticed that the moisture on the screen is actually the one causing the random touches... i downloaded multitouch test from the play store, and put a few small drops of water on a certain part of the screen, and the app actually detects touches on that part of the screen... i think somehow the drops of water are putting pressure on the screen and causing the screen to detect the pressure as touches? is this a manufacture flaw by Asus? it's really bugging me and i hope I'm not the only one experiencing this...

Its not pressure, nor is it a defect. It happens on all capacitive screens like the N7. What is water? It's is a great conductor. Your fingers do the same thing.

May due to a better digitizer on the gnex as the Nexus 7 came with a lower cost.
In digitizer there is something like a noise management system and seem like the higher cost products has a better management for example I has never has a problem with a moisture on the iPad screen but I do has with my N7.

the weird thing is that ever time i won't face this problem for the first few months..but once i encountered it the first time, i keep getting the ghost touches almost everyday...seems like the digitizer is getting worst day by day...

Distilled water is a bad conductor. But tap water and non-distilled bottled water are great conductors.

Yes, I know this. It's not the water itself that is conductive, it's the minerals and stuff in the water.

i may be missing something here......dont put water on your nexus?

Putting drops of water on the screen won't hurt the unit. Well... As long as you don't let it into the bezel.

Try replacing the screen. That is about all you can do.

Stop using it in the tub....steam becomes water.

Noise management has an important software/microcode component. I do not see the N7 as being low quality but input and signal management are far from optimal - IMHO.

It's a conspiracy. The NSA is remote-controlling your Nexus devices.
Be warned, and be careful.

How did you get asus to give you a new unit? I still can't get them to remove a scratch on the screen.

I'm admittedly not fully convinced it's not an environmental problem on your end. It gets pretty humid over here, but moving in and out of climate-controlled conditions has yet to cause moisture to appear on my screen. Are you sure you don't have any dust/grit etc. on your screen? That can help water coalesce/probably improves conductivity of any moisture that does appear.

Unless you documented that the scratch was there as soon as it came out of the box, I can't see any customer service department making it easy to exchange a device for a scratch (because no offense, but it's almost always the user's fault, so they're going ot be pretty skeptical no matter what you say).

Want Warranty Replacement Droid 3

So my girl's droid 3 has been acting up and want to try and get a replacement but she spilled cooking oil on screen and has a dark spot on LCD which happened early March. That did not effect the performance at all but lately its been going nuts. My question is can I get a replacement and not be charged for the the LCD problem even though it didn't effect the performance? Just want to know if anybody here has had the same incident or something similar or even your input would be nice. Thanks In Advance
Sent from my Paranoid JellyBeen Nexus using XDA Premium App
How dark is the spot you are talking about? Are the performance issues now related to the screen response? Because it kind of sounds like now there are issues with the screen because of the oil incident.. ;]
I had to warranty my D2G awhile back. I declared a few somewhat major cosmetic problems to them as I was a jeweler at the time and had probably damaged it in some way during the course of my work. The problem with my phone had ended up being hardware related and had nothing to do with the damage and so my phone was replaced.
Here's pics of the screen and the problems happened months after the oil spill
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium App
But no the problem is that is gets hot and randomly reboots all day everyday the screen works perfectly except for the dark spot on screen

make the background pure black, avoid putting light apps where the dark spot is, and then i would bring it in lol
maybe turn the brightness down a bit also
Well if I turn the light down its too dark and can't see anything where the dark spot is at. But that's not the problem I want to know can i get a replacement to fix the over heating problem and the random reboots that happens frequently. I have no problem with the dark spot on screen

Well if you bring it in and tell them about the spill, they will probably tell you the overheating & rebooting is from that and im pretty sure spills are not covered by the 1 year warranty. And the spill would void the warranty im pretty sure also.
If you have insurance they will replace it though.
You could always go to the store and see if the rep will let you exchange it. You might get a nice one. It's unlikely but withholding info I think is fraud.

Looks like that dark spot is over the cpu... I'd try saying the dark spot was caused by the heating issue and maybe not mention the cooking oil...
^^^^^^^
I second that. Tell them that one day the phone got really hot in her pocket and then this screen dark spot appeared. She had been dealing with it 'til now, but she's finally sick of it since these new issues arose.
I could also try that to just don't want to send the phone in and they open it and see oil inside and they charge me for a whole new device even though it happened months ago. Does anybody know where the water censors are or the only one is in back of phone?

Just go in and they should replace it their if they have any in stock. Or they might offer you a different device.
It doesnt matter if it happened months ago, technically this would VOID your warranty. Like said above your best chance is to bring it in and say the it kept overheating in your pocket since a few months back and started noticing that dark spot.. If they did check the water sensors and they WERE TRIPPED then they wouldnt replace it, because that would void your warranty.

Aaand it's broken

Yes that's right my less than 24 hour old one is broken. There is a hairline crack that runs from home button to heaphone jack. By the home button there is another small crack too.

I understand it sounds ridiculous, I ran a phone store for many years and heard stories and saw things I wish I didn't. One guy hands me his phone said it doesn't work, I asked if it got wet and he tells me that his cow ate it and then threw it back up again. We go through a lot of purell. I've never had someone tell me it just broke while holding it and trying to take a screen shot, but that's what happened.
I love the phone, it was running without hiccups all day. I don't want a different phone, but I don't want to be looking at a long road of replacements either and I think most of us can agree on that, so I had to share my experience.

The way the crack is so hairline and straight it does seem believable some freak pressure point could have caused this. I have a good feeling we won't be seeing any more of these stories though =P

From the picks it doesn't look physically broken at all, it looks like, what someone else said, like a strip of pixels died. So, that could be a bad flex cable or a screen defect. maybe the otterbox was warping the phone? was it a snug fit?
I hate to be that guy, but I'll be the second story of "my screen actually did break and I have no idea how".
I will admit, the phone did take a drop off a couch on to tile; but no screen damage was done, just a slight scuff on the landing zone. That was 2 days ago.
Yesterday i'm out with some friends, doing some gardening at his place, and I pull out my phone and there's a hairline crack from the volume buttons to the home button, I'll update with a picture when I find my camera. And now today, when i woke up, I was using my phone and noticed some stuck pixles on the middle top of the screen. I bought the phone on the third and I'm not sure if this kind of thing should be covered or not; if it's even worht calling or going into sprint?
EDIT: LINK TO ALBUM HERE
I couldn't get the pixle since they are so damn small and i don't have a macro lens for the camera.
I don't even know how it could have happend while it was in my pocket or from the fall(last picture) since it wasn't broken at all that day.
I reveretd to stock rom without SU but we cannot removed the tamper markings if i contact sprint what do i do about that?
I am going to agree and say that is a pixel issue. Glass does not crack like that or a LCD screen unless it is intentionally scored.

Yea even a thin case around the phone will prevent this from happening - it will absorb a lot of impact since its a compressible material...
basically w/o a case if u drop it on the front corners it will likely crack the screen
This is because the impact is abosorbed by the metal- which will not compress, it will just push all the force down to the glass screen and crack it.. if they just had a little bit of rubber or plastic between the metal and the glass it would alleviate the impact enough so that the screen wont crack as easily.
I power slammed my phone and the screen broke. HTC makes crappy phones. I'm buying a iPhone
