Hello everyone, I have just a simple question. Does Ubuntu touch is fully finished ? because i would like to try, but i want to be sure that everything gonna work like in android, i mean all stuff, because i saw some videos that has only pictures on some apps.
OK, so how much % of apps and etc gonna work ? Also could you link how to root and flash Ubuntu or custom ROM guide ?
I had a go the first time it came out....not much worked apart from the browser or the clock.
You'll be disappointed ....its pretty, that's about it.

You can install it as dualboot if ypu use multirom. Works pretty good.

Its a preview most apps don't work and its setup as a demo
Sent from my Nexus 4 @1.72 GHz on Stock 4.2.2
OK, now I understand it. When they gonna make full ? And does anybody know good and safe way to root, flash new ROM and etc guide ? And could post link here ?
Just download some screenshots of ubuntu and put them on your desktop. It'll be just as functional and save you a lot of time.

It's funny because he is serious. You can download the Ubuntu Touch Live Wallpaper and theme it to match pretty close. This is your best route.
Actually several apps have been released since Ubuntu Touch Preview; SideBar and RoundedCorner. Both give the pretty aesthetics we like so much in Ubuntu Touch.
If you wanna keep your stock Android, you could install Multirom, then you can dualboot your Android and the Ubuntu Touch. If you don't like it, you can delete your Ubuntu Touch and keep your original Android ROM. :good:

Yep you would either need another harddrive or to partition your harddrive or to run in a VM
i was just gonna make another partition, and if i do, and it installs, will it automatically ask me which to boot from when i power it on?

Oh okay. If you try something "exotic" let us know your feedback!! I am going to do a reinstall on my computer soon and was thinking of switching away from Ubuntu just for the sake of trying something new so I'd like to hear some objective reviews.
Have you thought about "rolling your own"?

Sorry I meant you can make your own. There's a site dedicated to it but you might not want to do that just yet. Have you looked at OpenSuse? Haven't used it in a while but it was good. I tried the KDE version of Federa a month or two ago. A bit buggy! Mint Linux has had some good reviews anyway just my input!

Personally it's only the GUI I want to have some variety in so I'm trying out "Xubuntu" which I think is Ubuntu with XDE desktop-thing-which-I-don't-remember-what's-called-thing xD I did read about openSUSE but it was too much like Ubuntu I think
For a complete noob, Ubuntu is the way to go. It'll get you started pretty quick and the interface is just a matter of choice. If you want something that's uberHaxX0rZ, try installing a tiling Window Manager such as awesome instead of Gnome (which is default in Ubuntu).
I myself use Arch Linux with gnome-panel and Compiz as a standalone Window Manager and I'm loving it!
I myself am an Ubuntu man. I'm currently digging the Ubuntu 10.10 beta. 2 weeks until the final release!
I myself is trying to use the default window manager in Kubuntu but I can't get it working It's driving me crazy :/ It just says that non of the effects could be enabled...

This usually happens because the drivers for your graphics card aren't installed properly (or the card is ancient).
This is exactly one of the things why I personally dislike Ubuntu. If you're lucky, it'll work like a charm, but if you're not, you're gonna spend hours and hours trying to get it to work.
Either way, you can probably fix it by downloading and installing proprietary drivers for your card, since the open source ones probably don't work with your card. Though on the other hand, maybe you need to use opensource ones because the proprietary ones that installed automatically don't work? Who knows?
hey i was wondering if someone would help me install ubuntu on my win7 hp laptop now i tried this erlier via the usb method but i almost killed my computer my computer restarted and i got a black screen of death and i went into recovery and it hung on automatic system repair for about 40min and i was about 2min away from doing a full wipe on my computer and starting over luckily it finished and my computer restarted and all is good now. so now im ready for round 2 however i would really like some outside help before i try and tackle this again blindly lol.
so would someone please pm me and ill send u my gtalk info.
thx in advance.
I would imagine ubuntu hasn't changed all that much since I last tried the distro. Plus editing partitions is almost universally the same so I'll help you one of these nights (Mon- Wed) if you don't get help from someone else before hand.
Edit: actually I'm back in my town again, so tonight could possibly work out as well depending on when you're free. (I'm free between ~7-10pm CST then I have some things to take care of)

Walk away man... you almost bricked your hero and with the help of xda members you got it back up. Be grateful. This is the general section. Plus its linux. Which is what you have in your hand. In turn which is a hero... which has....linux.... so yes it has to do with the hero....
Enough sarcasm?

Good to hear that you got it installed.
JFYI - Ubuntu has an option where it can be installed as a directory within Windows. I have not used that option, but it did come up when I installed it, last time.

Hi, was curious if any developers here are able to get Photoshop Touch working on the Note?
The Note is also advertised as a tablet as well and this would be so much better than the crappy Express version.
I have a feeling we need to wait for ICS for this to work but I am hoping I am wrong.
Thanks

Some people say it works with ICS on the Galaxy Nexus so it's definitly necessary ICS. Anyone have tried on the Note with CM ICS?

Photoshop Touch is a "Honeycomb" application, and as such requires Android 3+ to work. There's pretty much zero chance of getting it to work on Gingerbread as it simply doesn't have the frameworks to support the Honeycomb APIs.
ICS *should* remedy this.
Regards,
Dave
If and when it works, it would be so amazing on the Note.

I dunno mate, I thought the same, but something wrong here!
Check this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7H7uk6QvbM
Shows photoshop touch runs on N7000, noticing the notification bar, I believe that guy is using stock ROM (GB 2.3), made me confused.
Tried to find a working apk, but all gave me parse error.
Dunno, video is real but, all other sources says it's not possible
Regards,
Hani
There actually "is" an APK that allows it to be installed and works on Gingerbread and the Note specifically, if you've already bought it for use on a tab, then morally I don't see why you shouldn't use it (as you can buy once, install to many with apps you buy anyway) but legally I'm not so sure.
Swyped from my finger, to your face on my Samsung Galaxy Note, using Tapatalk!
Photoshop touch does indeed run on ICS. I've used it, and it runs well
I have also used the modified version for gingerbread RavenY2K3 is talking about. The creator of that version has modified resolution in the apk so as to make it run on low-res GB phones. Using it amounts to piracy, so I'd advise you to cease discussion about the GB version ;-)
The thing is, Photoshop touch, when it runs on a full-size tablet, is much more natural, fluid and intuitive. Coming to our smaller display, the Note is still a better option than most 'phones', but is still a little restricted. Basically the menus and buttons appear tiny, and they have to be. The good thing is, it's very smooth with the S-Pen.

the video is real, I went to the site and downloaded the modded apk. it works flawlessly.on my.GNote N7000. keep in mind it was made for tablet so everything is smaller....(icons/tools) BUT using the app with Spen is NO problem. works amazing with Spen. =] BTW if u get "parse error" its very normal I had to download apk from their mediafire link 3 times before succeeding. sometimes it doesn't download apk. file properly so just keep trying. I recommend downloading straight from your Note. =] if.you want apk just PM me.and ill.send u my.dropbox link .

XDA member AuxLV is working on an app called Tabletizer. It's an apk that does the conversion by creating a flashable zip file on your device which you then flash in the recovery.
[APP] Tabletizer Alpha 4 (2013.03.02)
I've tried this one and it works well.
There are some other roms/patches that do have a Tablet UI option:
[PATCH] True Tablet UI (Apps+GUI) w/o DPI Change for Stock & CM10 - Update Oct11
[ROM][WIFI][CM10.1][Feb27] BeatMod CrystalClear v2.1 | Aroma | TabletUI | Sound Mods
PARANOIDANDROID 3.0 (4.2.2) | Only Rom on Android capable of Hybrid mode
Please add links to other solutions and projects or status updates, and keep general talk about TabletUI in this thread unless new a new one is created.
I updated my G+ with current status.

I am very interested in this as my posts in the CM 10.1 "official" thread should have made clear, but being as I'm not a developer I can't do much but sit around and hope someone with more talent than I have is capable of making it a reality. I understand that Google has decided to "move on" and just flat out give up on the tablet UI - which is odd considering it's a tablet device we're using with the Nexus 7 and not a damned phone, even so - but that's their prerogative I suppose.
For the moment I'll use Paranoid Android 3.0 when aaron is able to get a 4.2.2 build out, he's currently working on it as noted in his thread last night but it's not available just yet. I was using PA 3.0 with 4.2.1 and found it very useful for many reasons, the tablet UI functionality being the primary one.
The Nexus 7 I have is actually damaged (hence it being a $25 craigslist special) with a crack in the upper right hand corner where the previous owner had dropped it - there's a triangular area in the upper right hand side that doesn't respond to touch anymore, kinda funky how it lines up but, with PA and that tablet UI functionality it's not a real issue because I can hold the menu soft key and it'll bring up the settings for any given app anyway.
If I have to choose a specific ROM I tend to go back to "pure" CM whenever possible so, if someone can actually get the tablet UI functional in 10.1 (based on 4.2.2 at this point) I'm all for it. If not, then PA will fill the ROM role for me.
I remember seeing them introduce Honeycomb and was blown away with the interface layout and the functionality, and now they've basically just swept all that out like yesterday's garbage and I really wish I knew why. It's like seeing demos of versions of Windows that never end up being actually made into workable products - there are videos on YouTube of test versions of Windows Longhorn which was scrapped and then reborn as Vista and some of the stuff they do in those Longhorn videos is beyond cool, seriously.
Android showed some "beyond cool" capability with Honeycomb and a proper tablet UI, now it's like that stuff was a mistake or something and I completely disagree on that respect. But then again, I do understand Google's attempts at unifying the Android interface across all devices instead of having something for phones and then something for tablets, what now with ChromeOS trying to gain traction as well.
Suffice to say if someone can make it possible with CM then fantastic, if not then I'll make do with whatever I suppose. Would be nice, however...
I just want to make sure my app is of top quality, I failed two updates for LagFix when I wanted to make them quick, that will never happen again.

My hero!!!!
Well done on alot of good work.
I will have to be honest that I like the quick settings menu in combo with the notifications drop down. And I like the way the navigation bar is by default.
But the thing I like about the Honeycomb style ui is the settings menu. I guess compared to stock Jellybean, that might be the only thing I like alot (Just to be clear, I did not dislike other aspects). The Honeycomb notifications tray just seemed to add additional screen pressed for functions now contained within the quick settings menu.
But, still. Good job changing the ui. Its not an easy thing to do. I tried to do some changes for personal use, and seemingly small changes completely crash the system to an unusable state.

Hey aux, where will you be posting this app? Id love to test it
First alpha as promised!
Before using: BACK UP!!!
Using:
Launch app
Click "Run tabletizer"
Wait for a few minutes
It will create update.zip file in /sdcard/data/tabletizer/temp
Flash this update.zip from CWM/TWRP recovery
Reboot
App is quite unstable at the moment, because recompilation process eats a lot of RAM and it crashes often when runs out of memory. I'm rewritting smali tool to be more friendly, but it will take some time to finish.
Thank you for your app! I ran the apk, it started the process and got to these last 3 lines:
Services are patched!
Can not recompile.
Compilation exception.
Now it hasn't done anything for 10 minutes. I'll wait a bit longer and try again.
