-Turn off the phone, reboot into bootloader mode (power+up on the d-pad)
-Look to see which version you have for your bootloader. Then you want to go to http://android.doshaska.net/rootable and download the SBF for your bootloader. This will enable you to root the phone and install a custom recovery called "OpenRecovery".
-Download the latest version of RSD Lite and the latest version of the Motorola USB Drivers. Place your SBF file on the root of the C drive, and rename it to some one letter name like a.sbf
-Put the phone in bootloader mode, launch RSD Lite, plug in the phone and it should appear. Select your SBF and start. If it all passes, your phone should reboot.
-Once that is done, you want to place OpenRecovery on the ROOT of the SD card. I suggest using FuFu's MiniMod. Once that is done, you want to root the phone. Turn the phone off, and hold power+x, when you see the Motorola M, release the keys and hold camera+volume-up instead.
-You are now into recovery. Using the d-pad, select "apply update.zip", you are now loading up OpenRecovery. I recommend you do a Nandroid backup before you root, and you can do another one after you root.
-Reboot the phone, now you should have Root. If it isn't already installed, install Superuser from the Android Market. This will enable you to manage what can use root permissions.
-Download TitaniumBackup (or MyBackupRoot) and backup all of your applications to the SD card. Anything that is on the phone's memory and not on the SD card will be WIPED.
-Download the custom ROM that you want to flash. For CyanogenMod based ROMs, you will need to flash Google Apps as well. Place them both on your SD card, under OpenRecovery/updates
-Once you are sure that everything you want saved is saved, turn off the phone again and reboot into recovery.
-Select the Wipe Menu and wipe dalvik cache, cache partition and then data(in that order)
-Now navigate to Apply Update and flash the ROM you want. When that is done, wipe ONLY the caches again, flash Google Apps if you need to, wipe caches again.
-Navigate to the miscellaneous menu, and select Change Baseband. Choose the baseband for your country/provider, so you can get 3G.
-Reboot the phone, and you will see that it is taking a longer time to reboot, which is normal because you are booting up a new custom ROM for the first time.
I think that sums everything up If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

If you're looking for an easy (but non-permanent way) of rooting, try Univeral Androot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20401155/UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5.apk
Keep in mind, that root access will be lost upon reboot and has to be activated again

I believe you're mistaken. I rooted my phone using Universal Androot and have to two other Milestones. I'm pretty sure there's an option to choose a temporary root or a permaroot that you would only lose if you reflash a stock SBF.
I know there is such an option - but somewhere I've overheard that a permanent root wouldn't stick to a stock Milestone.
Seems like I was mistaken - but due to this 'misinformation' I never tried to permaroot using UA.

Hi again
I have a question, I got to liking the game Inotia 3 ---
I followed your instructios on rooting and all and I'm satisifed with it...
The deal is the game force closes when I start it. What should I do about it? I used the ROM (CyanogenMod) you suggested.
is there anything that I should do?
btw: super thank you for your instructions... i really like the rom and it's fast

Were you able to play the game before you rooted? If so, then try using zeppelinrox's memory management script called Supercharger(you run it as root in the app "Script Manager")
is this the one? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Is it right that I have to download the zip file and just put it in the root? and then i own't have to do anything?

I just use the V8 Alpha Milestone version. You place it anywhere on the SD card and browse to it using Script Manager.

No need to use OpenRecovery. All you need to do is download Script Manager from the Market, choose the script on your SD Card, Run as Root and voila!
do you suggest the v8 already? It's only in Alpha while v6 of the supercharger is already in beta

Yeah, it's very small. Not going to take up much space on your SD.
Just recently purchased the Sony TL (LT30at) with AT&T. There are a ton of app's that I wont be using and taking up space.
Im new to this reconfiguration but read that I should install titanium backup to remove these unwanted apps.
1)Do I need to root my phone first in order to use titanium backup and remove the apps?
2)Is there an alternative other than rooting the phone to remove these apps?
There's not alot of resources to root LT30at in a straight forward manner that is laid-out in laymans terms. I may be wrong if so, could you provide the link?
Thank you

You do need to root,
Please read the all in one thread for tutorials on how to root. (Its the first thread in the Q&A section)
There are various things you may have to do depending on your firmware. But you will have to root to get rid of the AT&T bloatware.
Ask in the all in one thread if you have any problems.
Greg
How about extract at&t ftf and remove any bloatware you don't want. Then flash back. This way seems to accomplish what OP wants without root.

I think that has been tried before, but it fails.
You have to extract the ftf using winrar (Or similar) then dump the data from system.sin into a .ext 4 file. Then use a ext2explorer to remove the bloatware.
The problem coes when you try then to recompile the ext4 back into system.sin and put back into .ftf We cant do that, we can only put it back into .zip which needs recovery to flash and hence needs root.
If you know another way please do share.

Thanks for your help Greg.
So far, the information I have summed up is coming up short. It would be nice to get an accurate step-by-step and the right file for the root so I can just follow each step. I've read around the thread that ATT makes it difficult to do anything until you can unlock the bootloader.
At this point I understand that the phone is a couple of months out of the market just hope someone will take notice of the Sony TL Lt30at (specifically) and make an accurate root guide
If I downloaded TItanium Backup right now, whats the capability can I accomplish? Or will it only fully function when rooted?

I rooted my TL just the other day using the steps here (only 6-8):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2049157
Thanks to user LastQuark for the write-up.
Start at step 6 through 8. Since you're on stock firmware (like me) you don't have to do steps 1-5, I didn't and have no issues. Basically the root process takes like 2 minutes. It would be longer and more involved if you want to flash custom ROMS I think, but if you're looking to just remove AT&T bloatware, follow those steps.
I'm on stock firmware, locked bootloader, etc.

Has there been any issues so far from the boot?
I noticed the build is a different number from the stock originally on the phone (.152), will that change alot or create issues?
Gonna run through some things that I am uncertain with and do this root as well.
Did you manage to DL Titanium backup as well?
I didn't bother with Titanium only because I wasn't flashing firmware or anything. No need to wipe anything so I figured I'd do without.
As far as different firmware, you'd have to read up on what version isn't easily rootable, or not rootable at all.... . 195 maybe? Or something like that. I'm not entirely sure.
What I'm getting at is that if you can root your firmware version the steps I linked will work.
Oh, and no issues at all. Just a bit lighter due to the AT&T apps I deleted. Lol.
I was on .152 when I got my phone as well. This is what I did...
1. Install flash tool first, http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1355071460000 (thanks to Androxyde)
1.1 Then go to flashtools install folder and install the drivers from the driver folder.
1.2 Enable usb debug from the settings>development section.
2. install the backup and restore app (it needs to be installed for root to install without errors.) from here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1343299&d=1348239155
3. Then attempt to install root with restore, thanks to Bin4ry, from here http://ul.to/xdevcthz
This will get you root only, but put you on the path to recovery for when your ready.

Hey guys thanks for the comment and feedback!
I will do this tonight.
My only concern are, would the build firmware still be the same?
Will it disable some functionality on the phone like (auto brightness)?
Will the APN or service (LTE function) be interfered?
Thanks a bunch guys!

Rooting won't disable anything or change the build number. Just adds the supersu app and allows you the ability to change system files.

IMPORTANT:
This method is now obsolete and not needed, we are able to root directly onto 4.3 now thanks to geohot, please see towelroot thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783157
OLD METHOD:
I see many threads about rooting Android 4.3, especially with locked bootloaders, along with many users getting confused about it so decided to make this guide on how to get root on your Android 4.3 device
Unfortunately there is no method to root directly on the Xperia T/TL/TX/V with Android 4.3, we must downgrade first!
Step 1, Getting flashtool installed:
You need to download flashtool and install the latest drivers, this can all be found here and here
Step 2, Getting your device running Android 4.1.2 which is rootable!:
You need to download a 4.1.2 FTF file, I recommend using this one if you are an Xperia T user,
Use this one if you are an Xperia V user.
Use this one if you are an Xperia TX user
although any will do as long as has a build number earlier than 9.1.A.1.141
Next what you need to do is open up flashtool which you installed in Step 1. Next click on the lightning bolt button which is the flash button, flashmode should be selected by default, click OK!
Now you are in the firmware selection area, navigate to where you downloaded the FTF file using the browse button in the top right.
Select the correct firmware, then click OK!
It'll process a bit, then will tell you to connect your device, firstly put your cable into the computer/laptop first, then hold down the volume down button on your device and connect the micro USB part to the device.
If all goes well it will start flashing, finish and tell you to restart the phone, the process could easily take 15 minutes, so be patient.
Step 3, Lets root the device:
Try rooting with the root option within FlashTool
Should that not work try this:
You want to download bin4rys rooting toolkit, which is found here and here
This part you will be walked through in the command prompt of the toolkit, it will tell you what to do and when, it is very simple!
Step 4, Now we're rooted, we want a recovery:
Now we need to get CWM recovery for locked bootloaders installed!
Download CWM installer here
Next extract the folder to somewhere on your computer, connect your phone to the computer, remember to allow unknown sources to be installed and to allow usb debugging, these can be found in 'security' and 'developer options' respectively.
Once done, double click on 'install.bat' and let the installer do it's magic.
If you have issues with this step, take a look at the 'Unable to enter recovery' section in the CWM for locked bootloaders thread here
Step 5, Download a rooted 4.3 update:
If you are an Xperia T user download from here
If you are an Xperia V user download from here
If you are an Xperia TX user download from here
Now transfer the package to the SD card on your device.
Next you want to power off your device, once that is done power back on, when you hit the first vibrate you should see a blue led, start repeatedly pressing the volume up button, the led should turn green and you will enter into CWM recovery.
RECOMMENDED: Now you are in recovery you should do a complete wipe data/factory reset, now this can be skipped but if it leads to errors and problems then you may need to go back to step 1, you have been warned!
Head to install zip from SD card and locate to where you downloaded the file, then flash the file!
Step 6, Enjoy:
You should now be all up to date with Android 4.3 and have root access, feel free to comment and ask questions in the thread if you are having problems or things didn't work as they should.
You also now should have PhilZ Touch Recovery installed which will allow you to install mods, make backups etc. To enter it is the exact same procedure as for CWM earlier on!

Fair enough, if it works for some people they can go this method. OTA updates with root isn't fool proof though so some users may find they loose it.
This is also more for people who have already OTA updated and don't have root

First of all we have many dedicated threads to teach you step by step about rooting XZR.
For help I can give you a hint of how you must do it in short :-
1. Downgrade your phone from Kitkat to jellybean 4.1
2. Download doomloard's toolkit to root phone without unlocking bootloader.
3. As now you you have rooted your phone, now download Backup TA toolkit to backup your TA so as to keep bravia and warranty for your phone for future. Save this TA backup file with your life.
4. Now Upgrade to Kitkat. As now you have your TA backup, you can unlock bootloader from Sony Developer site help.
5. You can look for a software called Flashtool and download it. This is going to help you in further things.
6. Now unlock your bootloader.
7. Now Flash a boot image which has a recovery and is for XZR.
8. Download a flashable zip file for installing SuperSU.
9. Flash that file using that recovery.
10. Flash the kernel from the downloaded firmware of Kitkat using flashtool.
11. Start your phone and you may find SuperSU installed in your phone.
12. Now comes the part to keep your Bravia engine alive. As you have taken a backup of your TA, open the Backup TA tool after activating developer mode and USB Debugging.
13. Then connect your phone, restore TA partition to your phone.
14. Now what you have is :- i). Rooted Kitkat on phone. ii). TA partition for future restoring of your TA after unlocking the phone.
All these above steps I have written here have a altogether a complete explanation. Now it's your turn to read them from here XDA. Go ahead and read more before asking anymore. The more you read, the less noob you are. :good:

Thank you for this guide. I really really appreciate it.
1. Wanted to know if it's not a problem to downgrade directly from 4.4.2 to 4.1/4.2?
2. No special things required to do? Just back up user data?
3. Use androxyde flashtool and use any region 4.1/4.2?
Just wanted to really make sure before i try doing this. Since i bought the phone recently and kitkat is just killing me with sdcard restrictions.

What you really need is right ftf file for your phone region isn't the problem and yes there is nothing special required to downgrade from any version to any version as far as ftf file is correct and is for correct device. You are good to go :good::good:
You can try root your zr kit kat use Towelroot. Some of the z and zr owners managed to get root even in lock bootloader. I already tested on my zr JB 4.3. Lockbootloader. Work flawlessly.
I did it!

Well as you have backed up your ta now you can choose any rooting methods available. It could be conventional method that we already know our it could be the towel root that our friend here is talking about. Enjoy being the real admin of your device

You did nothing wrong. Link2SD or alike won't work on 4.2 and up . If you need to move apps to the SDCard you'll have to use FolderMount. You can move up to 3 data folders with the free version and it works great especially if you have apps with big data folders (like games). However, if you need to move more than 3 data folders, you'll have to get the Premium version.
Good going.

Our friend here is right. These apps were made for gingerbread mainly, and alas they don't work on JB+. So what you need to do is understand more about folder mount before starting to use it. Learn more about it before making your move.
Silly question perhaps i don't know about. I'm on a stock ROM, rooted, still locked bootloader, and I cannot enter stock recovery. How do i possibly do that? I used the power+volup, power+voldwn, used root power options to boot recovery but I cannot.
Any information should help.
Thanks guys.

There is no recovery in stock.
Install one for XZR. @sijav has nice working dual recovery on the forum here for XZR, I personally use that as it doesn't require us to unlock bootloader. Here you can find it :- Dual Recovery
Press thanks if I helped

Is there a way to unroot?
**You can begin the following process from any Build but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** [root] FlashFire
Download:
- G930T_PG1_Stock_DeOdexed_Debloated_ROM.zip
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app, grant root access, and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Press "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Use the default settings under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and set "Reboot" to "Download."
6. Press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash . The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition.
7. Once the flash is complete and the device reboots into "Download" mode, flash the G930T_PG1_Stock_Modem_Recovery_Bootloader.tar.md5 using Odin's AP slot. The device will take 10 - 15 mins for the first boot!
8. To regain root access, re-run "root.bat" once the device has fully rebooted. Make certain usb debugging is enabled. Enjoy!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Notes:
1. The above process will not affect your Knox Warranty Flag.
2. The above process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Bootloader, and Stock Recovery.
3. The ROM will automatically wipe all User Data!
4. Follow this guide if you do not already have root access: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/root-s7-att-g930a-g935a-t3410538
Congrats on the first G920T ROM! Any way to do this withOUT wiping user data?

Thx. Use FlashFire's backup function to backup your data then restore after updating.

Nice! Thanks!
First off thanks for posting the first rom in this section. I just wanted to ask if this runs at the speed of the stock s7 or does it lag and delay like mine is now after rooting and applying the fixes?

Others will have to share their thoughts on that. I am running pure stock w/out root. But debloated, deodexed ROM'S usually run a little faster than pure stock.

If I use flash fire. What are all the items o want to back up for user data only ? I want to make sure I don't restore anything that will mess with this ROM. Thanks!

THANK YOU, will try as soon as I charge my phone and I will post updates.
Running amazing, definitely faster then stick rooted, only issue I'm having is when trying to make a call it takes a few seconds to connect :/ tried disabling Volte didn't make a difference
This rom is a phenomenal start. It is atleast as fast as stock s7 and runs circles around a fresh rooted one. As stated above the only thing I did notice was some weird calling issue but what cleared that up for me was dialer/settings/ turn off volte and also turn off wifi calling. The wifi calling had to be tricked into turning off as the regular wifi calling in settings was grayed out but I was able to get it in the dialer section. Thanks for a great start!

Hey, I also found this weird problem, may NOT be with this ROM, but I've never seen it before. Whenever I try to change the permissions of any app, I get this error. SO, I have to go thru and disable every app before I can change ANY app's permissions. VERY annoying. Anyone have a workaround?

I extracted a APK file out of there and just installed it normally. Hope that helps
Just odin flash the stock PG1 .tar files.
You may also want to remove that link to the regular SuperSU.zip. People should only use the special SuperSU version made for use with adb.
