To all devs and members of this great forum,
I have enjoyed seeing the development of such a old and dated phone (that was on the bridge of death) being brought back to life. I have learned so much from all of you. It was hard at first for a mac guy to understand some things, but many of you were extremely patient with me. Thanks especially to Incubus26Jc, Myn, Dzo and that crazy guy…cp0020! lol
I now will be enjoying my new iPhone4! It makes sense to have in my world… since I am a mac guy!
I will stay intouch.
man the last few months have taken its toll on our ranks
Man, if you can, you should donate your phone to one of the developers if they're phone every bricks. Enjoy your new iPhone .

someday i will have an iPhone, if and only if they ever get away from their current provider (nothing personal, just preference)
I hope that some of you are familiar with PhantomHacker and his contributions to the Android Development community. He has proven to be one of the most recognized ROM developers. Personally, I wait for confirmation that he'll be developing for a particular device before I even consider purchasing it. Ever since my Galaxy Tab 10.1 days (StarBurst ROM), I have declared my allegiance to his ROMs. This has carried over to the Samsung Galaxy SII and now the Samsung Galaxy SIII (Blazer ROMs). I could only imagine the types of things he would bring to the Nexus 7.
I inquired about him developing for the Nexus 7 and he said he would love the opportunity but doesn't have the funds to acquire one for himself. I told him I'd start this thread to appropriate enough funds so that we can get him one. Considering the fact that these devices cost so little, I figured, with your help, we could get there soon. I'd like to acquire enough funds to get him the 16GB version, but we'll settle with the 8GB if need be.
If you'd like more information about his work, check out these threads:

You will notice that he remains very active in his threads and is constantly updating his work.
I will be collecting donations in my PayPal account in order to update this thread with the pot value we are currently at. Also reply to this thread with the transaction ID so I can place your username in the Thanks section. I will divide the Thanks section into Gold Contributors ($10+), Silver Contributors ($5-$9.99), and Bronze Contributors ($4.99 and below) in honor of the Olympics.

Hope you all jump aboard so we can get there really soon.

I don't know this developer or his work, but I'm into this sort of crowd-funded enterprise within the Android community in a major way.
And I like how often I've seen it happen here on XDA.
Thank you so much for your support!

Anyone... Bueller?
Shame this popped up after the initial influx died down a bit.
Wow guys! C'mon! Let's get some premier development for our device going. I know that there are some superb development going on right now, but PH really would add a lot of neat tricks to our N7.
Kind of sad that the N7 community isn't as giving as the phone communities seem to be. =/
I like the community and I like it when I see people happy with custom roms. I don't use them but I like reading about them. I sent a donation but didn't get a transaction number but I did get a confirmation number, is that what you needed?

Well-established devices that are attractive to developers on their own (e.g. any Nexus device) don't need device donations to facilitate development. Especially devices that are dirt cheap to begin with.
Also, the skillset required for a Nexus device is VERY different from that required for a device that does not have AOSP support. Experience with smali-hacking and deodexing is of no benefit on a Nexus. Even well-established smali-hackers don't necessarily fare well on Nexus devices - see Designgears as an example.
Also, really, he doesn't have enough money for a $200 Nexus 7? He's paying for devices and service on at least two different carriers, and paid full unsubsidized price for at least one of those devices - If his work were indeed that good, he would have made enough money from previous donations to pay for the N7.
Donating a device upfront to a developer RARELY works out. Look at the Infuse community - There were at least three devices donated to developers in the early days of that device who received devices and did either nothing or almost nothing with them. The only device donations that actually resulted in any significant benefit were donations of used devices when owners upgraded.
I wish i could help i am very low on money, but you have my word i will throw so cash when i have it. The more devs we have the better

@leelaa: Thank you for vouching. We appreciate any help we can get.
@Entropy512: I respect your opinions but I ask you to please refrain from posting in this thread if you're not willing to colaborate or support the movement. I can assure you that PH can handle the Nexus 7. I created this thread because I mentioned in the SG3 thread about development for this device and he said that he would love to develop for it but was lacking the funds.
I would like to do a time frame. Where we could talk about our years here. Lets see who is the oldest and what we have gave to this forums.
Personally Ive been here since 2004-05. And basically since its started when it was hard to read the texts on my razor and this was basically Htc only.
This site has been great for me and sometimes missed the simplicity of the starting years. And I believe this forums are the true shapers on the mobile era.
Please post youre time. and a story
I have a few but ill start with loosing my first account. Dont even know how it was called!

And another reason I would like to make a timeframe so please talk about youre device history and how its been youre experience in each thread.

I got my first android in September of last year, within a month I was on xda, and by November, I had an account cause I thought I knew enough to help some folks. I do enjoy the community, even though leeches are always making devs angry (IMO, both their faults). I haven't been around as long as OP, but I know my way around the Nexus S, and android itself!

Next time I catch you posting a ridiculously unnecessary "IB4L" post I'm going to ban you. There are more pointless posts from you around here than there are pointless threads, and that's quite an achievement.

How It modified for better or worst?
For me it has been awesome. Ive been impressed since the beggining till mow. How guys seen to know more about devices than now.
when I started the threads were a little difficult to understand. and everything was in one main page. where you could find rhe .cab files. but you had to keep scrolling down to find what you were looking. Now its all organized and eye candy.
keep it going Lets make this thread an archive!

Bro please stop that before you get banned! youre affecting the course of this thread. Im investigating abut how old is this thread and how long its been effective on the people. I think a great part that since 2003i the % of people buying smartphones has grown from a 20% to 90% has to in great part to forums like this. specially this one. people started to know about hacks and how they affect they to bennefit the costumer rather that the company.
Xda has been the pioneer when people started to know about roots and other methods of hacking the os of their devices. making them better. and having features locked by carriers. Xda has been there to keep this idea forward. and I want people to start talking about xda's evolution. and the we could take this info and make it a news letter for people to continue the tradition which we started years ago!

I for one part started to love this place when I had my Razor. I started to know about firmwares and hack. and every time I searched the web I ended here. there werent the hacks I needed then. That led me to my first account. but it was good to know this was there. and to read about people doing amazing stuff.
This led me to buy my first pocketpc-smartphone. a Treo 750 which I bought from second use and I still have it running a custom wm 6.5 rom with titanium.
Then I bought an Lg incite (wm) which kept me here but most of my time on lg-incite.com
the site grew and my fasination for htc too. not to be surpriced as most of the hacks where make for this devices.... check the history of the first diamond with manila. ( what we call now Sense)
So it led me to buy a Diamond 2
this was another revolution. I was a moderator on the htc-pure forums. but kept my profile here. and was as always morw and more in love with this site as I continued to know that the hacks came from here.
Now on the Dhd I had a bittersweet relation. many forum memebers dont like to keep tradition. But this continues to grow fast. Proof of this is the compact view.
We shall continue making history!

I have been here on xda since 11th of june 2012 thats not even six months. But this place has taught me how to do awesoome stuff with my low end phones (galaxy 5 and galaxy y ) but also taught me many more things, things which no school teaches.
I have learnt to be polite when I am angry, i have learnt to appreciate ones efforts. I have learnt to respect ones work.

Thats great. Now I see many people with budget phones. which proofs what xda stands for..... everyone should have equal oportunity to have the best phone they can.
Hacks make devices live longer and us spent less money on smartphones. But we still love them!

I've known about xda since I've had a G1 in early 2009. I didn't join until I got Sparky a MyTouch 3G (3.5mm jack) in June 2010. I'm a relative newcomer compared to some....I really put what I learned here to good use when I got my Nexus One in late June 2010....and I've had tons of phones since and I learnt more with each one.

Yes its been a great experience!
That's the purpose I want to share how we've come from all over the world. And reshaped business. We've made companies think a bit more about their costumers, although we still need to keep this going proving them wrong in every corner. Like for example Desire Hd and ics!

Yeah man HTC were totally wrong about ICS and Sense. Forget ICS and Sense 3.6 (sorry Team Blackout and Pacha Nero) we have ICS and Sense 4.1 thanks to torxx!
And I agree we've made companies think twice about their products

Just a quick thank you to the Note 4 community. After two RMA's, 2 replacement batteries, 100's of flashes and custom ROMs, I have finally decided to move on to a new daily driver (OnePlus 6T). Notice I didn't say upgrade because I am not sure if there will ever truly be an upgrade to this phone. This phone has been and still is an amazing piece of hardware. I would argue Samsung's masterpiece work.
Big Ups to everyone here at XDA for keeping this phone alive!
@_mone, @Mickey387, @fattire, @mobspyguy, @ripee and anyone else I missed, Thank You!
For anyone wondering, No I am not selling it. Going to continue using it as my TV Remote / Couch Surfer.
Hola Im Jose! Originally from Mexico City but now a citizen of the world. I came here by 1st time back in 2007 to find how to upgrade Windows Mobile onto my beloved and actually working HTC Universal, always loved HTC phones and became more active in XDA. With some time started to write some of the 1st news for the recent launch of XDA Portal, lately was invited to be part of the Mods team in which i had a blast of fun!, I was there to meet in person the mighty old-timer Mods and Devs back in Texas on the infamous Android BBQ 1st editions.
On that time I was so active that some called me "spammer". Getting to the first places of post numbers on XDA....
I quit my regular job back in Mexico and decided to travel the world!, that was when i lowered down my activity in the forums due to obvious reasons...
Then pandemic came and i found myself unemployed and with no chances to travel for the time being....
So.... Im back!!!
Beware high posters, Im coming after you to get my place back!
Looking fwd to engage again with old time amigos around the forums and also to understand the new XDA.
