Clean stock install - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Dev,
Im currently using a custom rom, there is a tons of folder created during installing of different rom and apps on my sd card. It is safe to do this following steps on how to install clean stock rom?
1. wipe factory/wipe cache/wipe dalvik
2. format system/format data/format preload/format EMMC
3 remove battery/download mode (vol down, power key, menu key)
4. install official rom using odin.
its safe to format the EMMC?
Thank you in advance

Any reason you want to format emmc? Nowhere is it mandatory to do so. A factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik suffices.

What emmc is stand for?

Clean Install Custom Rom - Format internal SD required?

hi,
i have been flashing many roms these days but most of the custom roms' clean installation guide don't mention if u need to format ur internal SD before flashing so i'm wondering if not doing it will cause any problems. so normally for a clean install do u need to format the internal sd before flashing the rom?
(not talking about external sd here since i don't use an external sd)
No .
But i always wipe format clean flash .
jje
No need... but deleting "android" folder in SD card did fix few of my gallery issues...

Hi,
Could you tell me how to clean install? I just installed a custom ROM and although i did a Wipe Data/factory reset AND wipe cache using clockwork recovery my data like apps etc are all there from the previous ROM. Is there any way to do a clean install? Like totally clean?
Thank you
Which ROM are you using? Most of the ROMs come with the full wipe feature which ensures a clean install. The apps will be repeated only if you use a different version of the same ROM.

Does it work with stock rom?

I'M NOT SURE IF IT WILL WORK WITH STOCK
If Android freezes at boot screen:
1. Do a fresh install of stock rom via odin
2. install latest recovery.
most important procedure
3. switch off then press only home button and power button
1. wipe data/factory reset.[imp]
2. wipe cache partition.[imp]
3. Go to mounts and storage and format these :
a. system
b. data
c. cache
d. sdext
4 go to advanced and then in there format :
a. Dalvik cache
b. Battery stats [not imp.]
4. Install apocalypse latest final version.
5. install layout properly as suggest in developer post. after installing layout reboot 2 times.
6. mount system and install AMARULLZ DATA TO SD-EXTat this point after i apply the script the screen gets frozen in the android boot screen and i cant even see the bootanimation
7. give 2 reboots after installing AMARULLZ DATA TO SD-EXT.
8. check ur internal memory it will be according to ur partition size.
9. [if error] if u find internal memory still same then u must have not mounted system go to recovery again and mount system and then flash script again.
Link to all the files?

Do you mean - before flashing CM9, you have to wipe all data?
Or do you mean - flashing back to Samsung rom and then all the way back to CM9?
For me, a clean install would be, download the CM9 .zip file, go to recovery, wipe data/factory reset and then flash the new rom.
(Be careful, as clean means all your user data as settings and apps get deleted)
Cheers

If you mean the Wipe Data/Factory Reset option in CWM then it only deletes the /data partition (2GB). It doesn't delete your internal storage (12GB) (/sdcard usually) or your external memory card.
If you want to wipe your internal storage too, then go to Mounts and Storage then Format emmc. That should format your internal storage.
If you use the in-ROM options (not CWM) then: Settings>Back up and reset>Factory data reset>>>>>>>>this one deletes the /data partition only (same as Wipe Data/Factory Reset in CWM)
Settings>Storage>Format USB storage>>>>>>>>this one formats your internal storage (same as Format emmc in CWM).
Aslo there was a much talked about bug which caused flies to stay even after a reset. Not followed it much but it should be there somewhere in philz thread
Yes it still stays after the reset. ..

Factory reset will NOT remove your personal files like documents, downloads, music and picture files.. however, formatting SDcard will do that.. Factory reset will wipe Data folders, Android_secure & Cache
Make sure you do that from a safe kernel e.g. a recent Philz kernel or Abyss GB Kernel so that you won't brick your phone
Some ROMs may require factory 3 times to work properly without a bootloop, I have encountered that when switching from CM10 (PA) to TW (XLS2).
I have made a flashable zip with factory reset 3 times, cache wiping 3 times, dalvick cache wiping 3 times and system format, you might want to use it before you install a new ROM
I like to note that formatting system will also NOT remove your personal files.
AGAIN, Please remember to flash a safe kernel THEN reboot recovery before you do any wipes
Best of luck
P.S. I am no expert but I learnt my way around

[Q] Complete format

On TWRP, which of these can i format to completely erase everything so i can have a clean install of omnirom?
Dalvik Chache (Going to wipe)
Cache (going to wipe)
Systen
Data
Internal Storage
Android Secure
And would anybody tell me if i need to reinstall the asylum kernal to reinstall omnirom after a complete wipe?
Thank youu
You can format all of those but make sure you have the rom zip on external...
What's the kernel you using to get twrp? If it's raw or omni default then no need to install any other kernel. Just go with the installation..

Omni default kernal since i have that already installed. Just want a clean slate to minimise incompatibility
Wipe all except internal storage.
