I've been a LauncherPro user for many years now, and as such I've stuck with it on my Note. However, due to the "laggy" app-drawer opening animation, I've had to disable that completely (so that the drawer opens immediately).
I believe that pretty much ALL third-party launchers suffer from stuttering in some way or another. Does anyone actually know WHY this is the case on the Note? Its not ROM specific.
The alternative is to just use TouchWiz, which I am 100% keen on doing, except for ONE little problem. 90% of Android widgets are 4 columns wide, and there is no way to resize widgets with TouchWiz.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions? I get the feeling that most people stick with TouchWiz, so I'd love to know what you do about the 4 column limitation.

I'll give that a shot then. Does it support resizing of widgets?

No problem
I have tried most of the available launchers. The one i am most happy with at the moment is spb shell 3d, its not cheap. But when in tablet mode, looks great on the note. The widgets really make use of the screen resolution.
The only issue is there is no ability to alter the row/column count. Which in tablet mode has a count of 8. Which is a little high for the screen size of the note.
I have emailed the Developers of spb shell 3d and they have told me a update will be available soon.
Just my opinion
Thanks. I wish there was a way to test SPB before buying.
Are you able to resize widgets with SPB?

Yeah, you can resize all the widgets. It is a shame there is no trial

I use go launcher as well and I experienced some lag in transition effect and opening app drawer..
what ROM/kernel are you using? or maybe it's because I use too many widgets?

There is, but not one that I could ever recommend
I admit I tried it and found it very wanting. I only did it for the trial, because the cost was so high. I am glad I did, as I found it very wanting on my device. Others seem faster to me.
I use ssLancher. It has a very different approach, and everything is customisable. I also use a separate app launcher and Folder Organiser, leaving me 'free' from the app organisation that most launchers pin on you. That allows me to play with more with less effort.
go launcher is good because you can use ICS theme.
But this stupid launcher removes ICS animation ! (returns Gingerbread stock)
I hope new update (4.0) will bring for us more then just a nice shell.

No matter what Kernel/ROM I use, every single launcher lags noticeably. I never had this problem with my previous phones (Atrix, Defy+, SGS2). And yes, I'm and advanced user so I know how to optimize the OS.
I just stuck to ADW EX, selecting the Fast interface and setting drawing cache to low quality. It lags but it's way less than Launcher Pro, GO and SS Launcher.
Hope this gets fixed on ICS.

ADW Launcher EX rly nice low on memory and alot of customizations possibilities.
Mmhhnnnnnn
I agree, I tried lots of launchers and IMO ADW EX is the best one!
It should be amazing one day to get anything equal to the Sense interface as Launcher (NO SPB Shell is not as good as Sense), don't you think so? I love it on HTC

I used to use Launcher Pro back in the day, but TBH, I consider it to be dead now; the developer hasn't made any changes to ver 0.8.6 for almost a year now... I think it's abandoned.
I use ADW EX, and it's pretty decent!
I was thinking about this. If we choose to use a custom launcher, we will likely lose blinkfeed, right? I've got a dozen or so Apex tricks that I have come to rely on. I wonder how this will work??
I know in the past when i used a One X using a custom launcher pretty much removed all the Sense apps so I could see that happening again this time
i must be one of the only people looking forward to blinkfeed!
i almost always had a sports news widget on my homescreen (though not the main one to be fair) and for a large amount of time twitter and facebook too - to have all of that on a dedicated screen (not even a widget) should be really great for me.
I'm looking forward to blinkfeed myself. I thought more people would love that feature. I think it's great.
Sense 5 is so sexy. Why would anyone want to install a different launcher on it?

My wife is probably going to love it. I would prefer to be able to move it to off center. I'm not totally thrilled with any FB or Twitter (-Caster is my favorite on both) widget, but I use them for feeds as well. I can see liking it, providing it's fairly customizable.

I'm going to give it a go. I only use 3 homescreens currently anyway and my default one if very sparse with only 4 apps. The idea of blink feed seems good, as long as it can sync with all the stuff I look at on currents I will be pretty happy.
Still no word on the menu button for legacy apps though.
Yes, using a custom launcher will mean you'll lose blinkfeed.
The only way around that will be to wait until someone has made blinkfeed into a separate flashable zip. At that point, you'll be able to set up your custom launcher as you'd like and then I guess you'd just be able to flash blinkfeed to have the functionality of both.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
HTC Widgets only work on stock launcher, I don't see why Blinkfeed would be any different.
M.
Far as I can tell blink feed is another screen on sense. No sense=no blink. Personally I hope a dev can get rid of it. I don't need a news thing and I don't use Facebook or twitter so it seems kinda useless. Id like to see a messaging panel on it with a quick reply like on the Ubuntu touch where its in the notification.

I am looking forward to trying out blinkfeed as it now follows holo guidelines and they have dropped the horrid 3d look for a much more modern flat look and if I don't like it I will put on a custom launcher.
Does anyone know if you can move the blinkfeed to another home screen as it would in my opinion be much nicer in the middle screen so you can swipe left or right for widgets/apps
It is one of the things I like too. But I also like being able to turn off icon labels, create my on gestures, etc. in Apex. Seems like it might be kind of like switching to an iphone -- if you want blinkfeed, you lose ability to customize.
Meanwhile, I'm sittin' on my hands until I see a few audio reviews.

Hi. I pre-ordered and already have my hands on a shiny new HTC One, and BlinkFeed was not one of the reasons I bought it. One of the first things I did after getting the phone was installing Apex Launcher. I use its gestures too and I like the customizability it offers. Thankfully for me, BlinkFeed indeed goes away with a custom launcher
coming from a iOS device im looking forward on all the HTC features. iphone really gets so boring. does the blinkfeed feature use a lot of power and will using a custom launcher make the battery last longer?

My One is in for repairs but in the week I was using it i didn't notice any noticeable battery drain from Blinkfeed the the first few days battery life doesn't tend to be good as it needs a couple of charging cycles but certainly battery life is very good.
I'm a big fan of Nova I use it on my Nexus7 but i doubt I will be on my one.

hey, i'm surprised about the battery life with blinkfeed. Also the data traffic is less, in one week i had used only 40mb for blinkfeed. I think thats great.
Can one just install the Sense launcher APK on AOSP and have it work? I really love AOSP functionality but Sense 5.0 design as a launcher, and BlinkFeed of course.
Suggestions, solutions, idea welcome.
Emh, it will not work...
Because launcher need also framework, com.htc.resource...
You have to choose: Sense or AOSP

That's a huge bummer. Maybe someone will eventually make it work. AOSP functionality + Sense design would be a killer combo.

Sense 5.0 currently runs off of 4.1 as you know, it has most of the same functionality and features and abilities as stock 4.1 but not all. I honestly can name many of them right now because I've only ran into a few. I know there are some missing sharing functions, zooming into pictures is weakened, and there are some others. All I am saying is that I want the full functionality and potential of stock 4.2.2, but with a Sense 5.0 launcher for looks and BlinkFeed.

Yes i know, but, htc rom have a modded framework, com.htc.resource and other function.
For have a fully sense 5 working you need the htc and resource by HTC.
So, or you will use app like aosp lockscreen or android 4.2 camera is possible...
But, for example, you can't have the aosp with the fully sense 5...
However, can you list some function that you will have?

I don't think you understand. All I care about is the launcher, not the full blown Sense 5 UI framework. Just the launcher/icons. That could be ported from the framework and then BlinkFeed might be able to be ported as well. At that point it would be two simple APK installs while running stock 4.2.2. Theoretically it should be possible.

Well obviously it is not as simple as that. I never said it would be. But developers have extracted a launcher from frameworks before. I've seen it. It will take some work but I'm sure we will eventually have it.
You know whats kinda of a cool launcher is Lightning Launcher. Im using it on my One now.
I think is for crazy dev...
However, if someone will develop this, good luck

I have been trying to use the Launcher from the nexus 5 for like 2 weeks but no matter what wallpaper I use it does not fit properly. It blows the wallpaper out of proprtion and leaves my nav bar deformed. Is anyone else experiencing this or know how I can fix??
I'm using nova beta launcher and this theme. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themezilla.kitkat
You can configure it to look exactly like the gel launcher (and tweak it in a variety of ways).
Here's how mine looks. I like a 5 x 5 grid.
Thank you for your response but I want to use the real launcher. One of the things I really liked about the Moto X is I get a stock experience without the need for roms and launchers I really just wanna get the official stock launcher working.
Can anyone please help me!?

Idid´n have any issues with wallpapers using GEL, what version of android are you using?
i think i already answered your question on another thread, but if it wasn't you i responded to. try using the gallery to set your wallpaper instead of the launcher application to set it. You can crop the picture to a larger size and adjust it further with the default gallery app on your phone. it will solve your problem.

oh. you are having a far different issue than what I thought. I'm not sure how to fix that. Probably an issue with GEL you are using. Others seem to have it working fine so maybe try seeing if there is an updated apk, or if the what FW you are running it iwht is incompatible. I know some people are still having problems with GEL and kit kat on verizon phones.
