Hello, guys!
I found this deal on bestbuy but there is not much info on the particular zenbook.
https://clearance.bestbuy.com/detai...-drive-radiant-silver/3101?navCode=CNYVeGW1SB
Does it have ssd or is only 500gb hdd?
Does it have backlid keyboard?
Also, the battery is said to be 6-cell, but does anybody have info how long it lasts?
I can't find much and reliable info on the internet and I know that the users on this forums are the best tech guys on the web, that's why I'm asking you for an opinion on the laptop.
have a nice day
Just buy a Mac. That's all I can say.
It looks like:
it has 24GB SSD
it has no backlight
battery lasts about 4 hours under video playback.
anyway look for UX32VD, you should find it on asus website
No don't buy a Mac they suck I'm not going to lie I've used one they suck Mega balls get a windows 7 laptop not windows 8

There is on the site, but for the newer models, which are 1600x900 resolution and etc.
That's a poor battery life...
And here it is said that it has backlight keyboard
http://latestlaptopinfo.com/asus-ux...b-memory-500gb-hard-drive-radiant-silver.html
And on the ssd side, I read that only Prime models (ending with an "A") have ssd so I am really confused
I am also considering one of these http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/u-series/u410-ultrabook/

Well, it is actually for my gf. As I joke her, she's going to use it only as a big calculator
Now seriously, I cannot see her using any program exept for the microsoft office, watching movies and general browsing.
She prefers the laptop to be thin, light and "beautiful" than powerful and ulgy.
I think that the zenbook suits her good. Also she'd prefer not to spend more money on a laptop.
Also, should I be afraid that if I buy a refurbished Mac it can have physical scratches and damages?

I just wanted a Macbook to develop on, play games, and watch movies, and I had to have the 1980x1200 resolution or it would of been pointless to get. I wanted the max the device out so that I wouldnt have to worry about not having the hardware needed to do whatever I needed to do.

Nope. Why?
The MB pros are sweet machines. They're solid and well-engineered, and will generally last longer than the cheaper windows laptops which makes them worth the extra money in my opinion.

That and you can't really upgrade a laptop. 1. no one sells processors for them. And 2. Cracking open the laptop to get to the processor will void any possible warranty it might have.

Your best bet is to get a deal off ebay ive goten a bunch at like 4 in the morning because theres alot less people to compete with. If your looking for something cheap its not going to be powerful same thing in phone world too. If your lucky you could mabe get a laptop with a broken screen and replace the screen and save a bunch but you have to do alot of research. Stay away from dv7s and dv6000s and dv9000s they have video chip issues where they stop showing video(hps version of the red ring of death). Craigslist might be a good idea too becouse when people are poor they sell **** for what ever they can get but craigslist has no return policy like paypal and ebay do. Good luck i hope i gave you some good insight.
Its all really just statistics. Lol

Not always true. I have an Acer that the CPU can be upgraded. I found a faster one on newegg but didn't get it. You need to do your homework before buying crap too. Know the CPU, chipset, form factor of the CPU, etc. You will also produce more heat and consume more battery with a bigger engine in it. You might be able to go the route of replacing the hard drive with a solid state and faster/lower cas ram. I think you'll notice more of a speed improvement with those two things than just a CPU. Put the maximum amount of ram your laptop chipset can support. Get matched ram (don't mix different brands and models of ram). My old 1.2 c2d Intel Acer can run circles around my gf's laptop that is years newer and faster CPU than mine. I just put the maximum, fastest, matched ram in it, a 7200rpm drive with a bigger cache, Arctic silver heat sink compound on the CPU, gpu, and (I forgot the third major chip, I'm having a brain fart). I also put an old and small heat sink on the brain fart chip. Hers is like maybe a 2.2 newer generation dual core Intel and mine is still quicker. I don't know why but it is. Way back when,I did a lot of research before I bought the Acer and knew under it's hood was no slouch for the price. It wasn't no alien ware but it was decent.
Why don't you post your budget, and what you plan on using the laptop for? I'm sure people will be more than happy to suggest stuff to you if they come across something!

If you want to dev on a laptop, you need something of the i5 or i7 range, as compiling takes a lot of CPU and RAM. However, for the price of a good laptop, you could get a really good computer. I would recommend building your own over a laptop, but if it has to be a laptop, something in the $700 range would be good.
Look at Samsung's ultrabooks.

If you want a good laptop with build quality in mind, look for Asus and Lenovo ones with a Sandy bridge processor along with a Nvidia GPU.
I personally like the Asus G & K series along with the Lenovo Y series (570).
Going to warn you that if you build your own then watch out for pricing. Currently most of the tech companies are overpricing everything due to the thailand lfoods and shortages of HDD's.
But if you do decide to make your own computer, visit places such as tomshardware.com / overclockers.net / hardocp.com / anandtech.com and ask around...
Just sayin

If you feel like building one, feel free to PM me, i will help you with practically anything you need. I've built around 10 PC's for family, friends and myself.
Currently have an
i5 2500k
GTX 570
4 GB DDR3 RAM
120 GB SSD
500 GB 7200 RPM HDD
I once picked out parts for my cousin that lived in New York, me in Minnesota and helped him build his own through the phone. Granted it took 3 hours, but he loves it.

Alright well in that case I will throw up some links for you to some good laptops.
Don't skimp on RAM. 8 gigs is my minimum, 16 is better. Windows 7 (and 8) will run a lot better with more RAM.
ASUS R500VM-MS71 It is $800 at Micro Center and is an awesome laptop. This is the one I personally own.
MSI G Series GE60 - $1,200 from Newegg
Check out more at Newegg just make sure to sort by rating.

I'm actually going to be throwing a SSD into my laptop. Even without it though it is really quick. Plus it has dual video cards. The standard Intel card runs when you are doing simple stuff like browsing the web to save power. Once you start something that is graphics intensive the Nvidia GT 630M kicks in.
I play Diablo 3 on max settings on this thing just fine.
Hp envy spectare is something that you would like.. i am an architect so i use AutoCAD all the time.. this thing handles it well.. I've seen my collegues useing it..
But my personal suggesstion don't go for much small screen if you use CAD..
Buy a msi GE60-0ND-042US.. I use it personally and I'm happy with it in all aspects..
I went to best buy today to look around and I really like the series 9 and the new zenbook. I'm really into the idea of an ultrabook

Stay away from HP, worst battery life ever and the specs aren't very good either. Asus on the other hand is one of the best laptops around; build quality, performance and all.

One major aspect to think about with any laptop is build quality. laptops tend to get moved about quite a bit and can take a beating, i neglected this when getting a laptop a few years back resulting in my now having a perfectly good laptop that has no screen as it was badly built. Macs are good for this being a single piece of metal but the lack of upgradeability is a definite drawback. Try to get a look at whatever your going to get in a shop before buying.
DO NOT BUY HP LAPTOP.bad usee expirience..my advice

Tablets are first and foremost media consumption devices. They are terrible for productivity unless you get something of the transformer line and cannot play many high end games. Internet browsing, light games, and movies/videos are what tablets do best. They are the portability step in between ultrabooks and smartphones.

Is the Nexus 7 screen big enough? I think the iPad's 9.6 inch is too big, and I haven't played with Nexus 7 till now. Does anyone know a shop where I can play with it? I tried Staples, Fry's and Best Buy and none of them have it on display.
So everyone just bought a tablet to do the same stuff their phones do?

Yeah, I feel the iPad screen is too big also, that's why I went with 7 inch tablets. And the N7 has a high enough resolution that text is still readable when zoomed out.

Bigger screen. The difference between a 4 inch screen and a 7 inch screen is huge.
