Okay I got a question about Basebands, I have the UK version of the Milestone But I live in the states, In Iowa. Is there a different baseband I should be using? Cause I've never seen a baseband in any of the lists I've found for north America or anything like that.
Argentina-Personal.zip
Brazil.zip
Canada.zip
French.zip
Germany.zip
Isreal-Celcomm.zip
Italy.zip
Singapore.zip
Telus.zip
Thai.zip
Venezuela-Movilnet.zip
That's about all I've seen for basebands. If someone could clear this up for what the baseband actually does and what I SHOULD have that'd be great thanks. You can see my current Baseband in my signature.
I guess baseband is more like, what fits you best.
If i'm wrong please correct me, but if you'r getting good reception its all good.
I also am in Iowa-Sioux City, and have found that the Singapore basebands are the only ones that work here, tried them all after I flashed a rom that changed my baseband. I believe that the baseband sets thew acctual frequencys that your phone uses, there are many in each of the bands that are avaible.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
too bad for me
i think i lost my baseband?
it shows me a "no service" my milestone cant detect my simcard's network
..... help please...
hey, where could i found this Venezuela-Movilnet.zip baseband? i really want this to use my 3g network on my xt720
There are two things about baseband: the baseband software and baseband configuration.
Baseband software (I don't know much about this, sorry...) may be in your system rom somewhere and you flash it with a zip file. In Eclair you'll see software and confugiration version in "About" page, but since 2.2(?) you'll only be able to see software version. I don't think this differs much for each people. You can find the latest(?) here:
code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/downloads/detail?name=update-bpsw-MSG39UPEU_A1.19_0.90-I4.zip
(sorry, I couldn't post outside links...)
Baseband configuration (located in /system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default/), according to my understanding, is to interpret GSM signal to something your phone can read. This is more like what fits you best. For example, with a baseband config from stock 2.1 rom my phone works well in the basement, but with another, it may show "no carrier".
Hello All.
I had a small talk with DoomLord about flashing base-bands over the phone and the difference it would make for your phone so have decided to make the information that I got available for the public here so that no one else has to go to the same hassle I did Googling for all the stuff.
I am a power user of Android. But completely unbeknownst to the development side of the OS. So if I make any mistakes, I request you to point them out to me and I will make the necessary corrections.
So what exactly is a baseband ?!
Inside of your cellphone, there is a chip embedded that enables it to communicate with your carrier's transmission towers. This chip is known as a "baseband processor" and it is responsible for signal processing and realtime radio transmission operation. (Got that bit from WikiPedia)
The baseband is actually a piece of software that instructs that processor on what frequencies to operate on.
Kind of like a driver for any hardware that you might install on your computer.
So any gain in the level of harmony between the hardware and software that make data transmission happen on your phone (GSM/DATA) is only going to benefit the phone's performance. ( READ battery life, signal reception, etc.)
Also, each baseband has it's corresponding libraries which also need to be provided for it to be working optimally.
So that's that for the theory part.
I'm open to corrections. If anyone can point them out, I will be happy to edit the post. But I had a lot of trouble trying to understand WHY I should flash a particular baseband and what difference it will make.
Currently, at XDA we have baseband patches for baseband -36 and -64 available.
So as per your ROM requirements, it would be better to flash any of these base-bands onto your phone with their corresponding libraries.
Which brings us to the next part.
ACTUALLY flashing the baseband.
Pretty simple process actually.
But from what I know, you will need a rooted phone with an unlocked bootloader to do this. (!! Not sure !! )
And a custom recovery (Clockwork MOD) that can allow you flash .zip to NAND.
EDIT : You just "NEED" root. (Thanks Flo95)
Please follow post 2 for further info on how to do it without root.
My ARC S is rooted and has an unlocked bootloader.
So all that you need to do now is download the following :
1.Flashtool.
2.Baseband that you require.
3.Corresponsing baseband libraries
I will be posting more on this with screenshots so that everyone can enjoy the same benefits that I have currently after using my phone on -36 baseband and using the corresponding patches.
Credits to DoomLord (For awesome DOOM Kernel) and Iridaki (For baseband patches). If there is anyone else to credit, please do point and I will acknowledge the same here.
I invite inputs from other experienced XDA members to provide more technical Know-how on why this is necessary. Sadly, there is insufficient material right now on this topic here.
Thanks.
EDIT :
Lets share a list of working Basebands in various areas :
For eg. :
Gujarat, India : 36 works fine on Vodafone 3G
64 works fine on Vodafone 3G and Airtel.
NSW Australia (on the Optus network) : Baseband 36 tested to be working great
Finland:
-64 works great for Sonera / Saunalahti / Elisa / DNA
-36 drops connection alot for Saunalahti / Elisa
Croatia
baseband 56 works great in Croatia
You can point to the baseband working for you and your location and I will update the post accordingly.
Thanks
Please click the "THANKS" button if you feel you've benefited from the info !
You can flash basebands without an unlocked bootloader, as it happens when "normal" users update their devices the official way without need of an unlocked bl.
You can get recovery with SE Extreme Tweaker on locked bootloader, too.
Only thing you need is root.
But for kernel awesomeness I'd definitly recommend to unlock the device.

Thanks for this topic!! ok I attach here the post I published in the other thread with no answer :
" @Iridaki: Sorry for my stupid question... But is there a way to flash another baseband directly from recovery?? Or I don't know, with root explorer... I'm on firmware. 42 rooted, with locked bootloader and with recovery. Thanks!

I think this is a great idea to discuss what basebands work best in what areas, it will certainly help a lot of people make the right (and informed decision).
To start off, I am in NSW Australia (on the Optus network) and I have found that the ideal baseband for me is .36 - All the other ones work fine of course but the .36 offers best/optimum battery and radio output for everyday use (with the latest DooMKernel of course!)
Hi, Im from the Philippines and wondering what baseband suits for my Arc S?

Yes there is a way to flash the baseband without Flashtool, but we wont publish it for now, since it's not working reliable on me. For theorie its working like an SE fota update. Which uses binary diff and flashes the diffs to the corresponding areas. This way you could flash all partitions. But this is only theory for now, because with flashtool we have a better way which is very very safe. Even if flashtool fails the phone can be restored everytime. Via FOTA you can really brick it forever
@All asking for which baseband fits best:
Please please DON'T start flashing basebands without thinking about now.
Normally ALWAYS use the baseband which comes with the ROM! For example SE always has the corresponding baseband included. This baseband fits the android libs it comes with.
On custom Roms please read what the developer of the customRom telly you. If he/she has developed the Rom for specific baseband libs.
All other things like baseband patches are tested and developed by other developers which know what they are doing. So if you use such a patch ALWAYS read the manual and the requirements. Because it CAN happen that it is NOT possible to use a GB baseband on a ICS rom and vice versa. The is a little more than "just" libs and firmware. Also the java part framework/base/com/java/internal/telephony....
has to fit the baseband (SE is very special here).
So i hope now you all understand. Please please please leave the decision which baseband is best and which is working to the devs who know what they are doing!!!!!! Don't come here and tell "i tried baeband xxxxx now my phone randomly disconnects data/voice/..."
Thanks
I'm in Victoria, Australia on the Telstra network. Does anyone know which is the optimal baseband for me to use?
Cheers.

Hehe, maybe just a little bit. The rest of the post was supposed to read that I am currently running baseband 64 but have **** internet connection even with full network reception.

ive been using baseband 36 so far, not bad might try 64 soon
Hey,
first of, sorry if this has already been asked (and answered..) But I tried my best searching all the sub-forums.
Anywho.
I'm not sure if I am imagining this or not, but after updating to 253 my wireless and cell reception has become worse. Albeit I have quite poor reception in the basement, but the phone looses mobile and/or wireless connection all the time (and I'm positive it didn't do that before, at least).
I have tried both the Indian version and the Swedish version, but they both have the same baseband, i.e 9x15A-ACEFWMAZQ-30110041-23. I am located in Norway, but I figured the baseband will at least be the same for both Sweden and Norway(?). I have not looked at the 'Nordic' version yet tho.
I have not checked if the baseband of 434 and 253 actually differ, but I'm thinking they do. Currently I'm running Carbonrom, so the question is, is it possible to flash just the baseband of 434 onto Carbonrom (provided they're not the same that is..) and should I try to find the Norwegian-specific ftf?
I've been doing nothing but flashing different roms these last days and I think I'm going to cough up hairballs if I have to re-install and customize the rom to my liking, yet again. So I just want to be sure before doing anything (un)risky..
regards,
me
Yes you can flash the baseband separately with flashtool.
And yes 434 has different baseband than the new update.

Well I tried flashing both a baseband from 434 UK version and 434 Swedish version, but it has not changed.. Is there anything else than flashing the baseband from flashtool I should know about?

Yes you done it correctly but you wont see the difference in "about phone".you need to change some system files to get the right info but not necessary.
All you have to do now is checking if you have better signal and connectivity or not.

Hi guys, please I need some help with my xperia z, it presently does not get any network regardless of changing sim. Dis occurred few days after upgrading to newest firmware .67. It worked fine after some days but signal started gettin poorer.realised dat after givin the phone a little bump it comes back to full signal.eventually it stopped getting network altogether, except in rare cases when I feel I'm close to a tower , it searches but cannot register on the network sayin to ensure that a network signal is in range 99asu.I also cannot switch to manual select of network. Please anybody with a solution. Want to know if its a hardware or software problem. I don't have a sony service centre here that can help me.thanks
I had a similar issue and found that my "APN" was missing (Telcel Mexico). I created a new APN from information on the Internet and all is well.

What model do you have??
You upgraded by PC Companion or by flashtool?? Maybe the baseband is incorrect and the phone don't have signal, maybe your carrier use two band and not both are in all coverage.

Initially upgraded to .434 using flashtool, then .67 by OTA. By baseband do u mean 2g and 3g? Cos I don't get any form of signal at all.
Hi there, I have had the same problem: after updating the XZ to 4.2.2 (2.67 over OTA) the signal dropped instantly. Therefore I had to send it back Sony Care. They fixed it. The update has overwritten a different smallband/baseband-version above the other one, just as I suspected. I bet you can flash it yourself (your an XDA user..) instead of waiting 2 weeks or more. If you don't know how it works and you've absolutely no experience with flashing, just send it back to Sony care.
I think the easiest way is to flash a different (older) baseband-version on your XZ, reboot/factory reset and see if it works. The second method is to try downgrading the software to .244 INCLUDING the baseband-version, then update it by flashing the XZ to 2.67 while EXCLUDING the baseband-version. The third option is to re-flash (with flashtool) the 2.67 update but a different version (GLOBAL).
My phone details:
Modelnumber: C6603
Android-version: 4.2.2
Smallbandversion: 9x15A-ACEFWMAZQ-30110068-44
Kernelversion: 3.4.0g43a9ba9
Buildnumber: 10.3.1.A.2.67
Altough your smallband/baseband may differ from mine. Therefore, please find your own software-version. I'm using:
GLOBAL-LTE_10.3.1.A.2.67 (Netherlands)
Goodluck! Please let us know about your issue:fingers-crossed:.

But what Xperia Z model do you have?? C6603, C6602, C6606??
I have a similar situation in the case of C6603, in my carrier sometimes I have 2G signal but never 3G and other times no signal. In the case of OTA or PC Companion updates, sometimes upgrade to diferent model or carrier, I have a friend that upgrade his Xperia Arc by PC Companion but with the uncarrier firmware. Maybe this is your case, the OTA firmware don't well upgrade your base band.
In this case I suppose that you can flash only the baseband by Flashtool, but be carreful that the firmware was made for your Xperia Z (C6603, C6602, C6606).

If you have doubts and I can help you tell me.
To find your version, just dial *#*#7378423#*#* => service info => software info => File system version: ......; download it from Xda and (re-)flash it. I've read about this; it happens a lot with XZ's with the GLOBAL firmware. You've probably the same version. Good luck and please let us know

Try to flash full firmware, because you don't have signal at all, maybe could be hardware issue. Cultural question, You try your sim card in another phone, don't you?
Okay I eventually found out what the problem was.it's a hardware problem, connection of the antenna near the vibrator, bottom right when lookin at back of phone was loose.thanks to all who posted suggestions.eventually opened it myself.
Hi,
I'm using Paranoid Android 4.5 Alpha 2 and I wonder how to update modem baseband to latest version without losing my actual configuration and ROM.
Is it possible?
If so, can you tell me how and what do I need.

why do you want to flash baseband?
Because I have issues with phone calls.
So I would like to take advantage of the latest baseband that would maybe fix those.

it might be an operator issue/rom bug.
dont fiddle with the baseband
It's not an operator problem.
So I suppose the problem is from my side (phone).
I used to have a Nexus 4 and ROM and baseband are 2 different things that you can flash independently.
Are you sure it's not the same with Xperia Z?
I already saw some topics with titles like Baseband Generic US something. But I did not find any Generic FR at the latest version.

You can download the french firmware and just flash the baseband from flashtool
Edit: Why dont you try EU firmware
I found out one topic for generic FR latest firmware and I used your trick flashing only the baseband.
Thanks!
Now I will see with the time if it's making my phone work better.
