cant go back to stock rom - HTC Incredible S

i installed cm10.1 and i didnt like it so decided to move on with ViperVIVO 2.5.3. my device is s-on and hboot 2.02 .before installation, i wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache partition and wiped dalvik cache from CWM and full wiped from AROMA Installer. after installation phone stuck on new htc one logo(red) i did flash boot command as well, so i decided to go back to stock rom and go with s-off first and then try it again. i restored my backup from CWM and run fastboot flash boot command, after reboot my phone stuck on htc logo(original green) for a while and went to CWM t itself after reboot. so i decided to install cm10.1 again and created a backup and try to restore it and i did restore cm10.1 backup successfully, i used the same procedure which was used in stock restore. my question are
how do i back to my stock rom so i'll continue my s-off process?
second question is, can go to s-off process from cm10.1? and after that i can go to stock rom
third, phone filesystem upgrade to EXT4 after applying the viper2.5.3, may be EXT4 is the reason my phone is not restoring the backup. i dont know what are EXT4 or EXT3. so please give me some guidance for further steps please. regards

Is there an error while restoring the backup?
Some backups may fail and you are not able to restore all of it

no error just stuck on htc logo. i used command fastboot flash boot boot.img after restoring backup. i successfully restore my stock backup when i was stuck on cm10.1 so i dont think so s there any problem in backup

lets clear few things.
1- install cm10.1 (failed)
2- restore stock backup (successful) so no problem in backup
3- install cm10.1 again (successful)
4- install ViperVivo (failed) stuck on logo
5- restore stock backup again (failed)
6- install cm10.1 again (successful)
7- create cm10.1 backup (successful)
8- restore stock backup again (failed)
9- restore cm10.1 backup (successful)
bottom line is, stock rom was created before viper means before EXT4 filesystem and cm10.1 backup was created after EXT4. now i dont know when i wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache partition and wiped dalvik cache from CWM phone is still on EXT4 or not. is there any issue with EXT4 or im think on wrong side?? need help guys.
is there any other way to go back to stock rom? regards

You could install a RUU, that would give you a stock rom as well.

Need few more information.
HBoot Version
Did you ever changed Recovery?
Which recovery do you use actual?
And i think, if you are on S-On, recovery cant even backup a boot.img
Because with S-On, you have acces to System, data, cache, dalvik cache and the lib partition, but no acces to boot.img at all.

Nandroid backup of rooted stock ROM

I've made a nandroid backup of my rooted stock Rom with cyanogen recovery and flashed Modacos FR15 wich worked retty good for me. But after some testing i wanted to change back to my stock Rom. After doing backup of the Modaco I wiped and restored the stock rom backup which refused to boot. I restored the modaco Rom which worked perfect. Any ideas what the reason could be? BTW md5 check before restore was all fine and no errors on restore.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
Did you wipe everything? Also Dalvik cache? It worked for me tho, what kind of version are you using for CWM?
CWM is 3.0.2.8 (latest version which i installed via ROM Manager) - as I said - other backups of CM Nightly and Modaco FR15 worked without probs. But I made 2 Backups of my rooted Stock ROM v10c which refuse to boot after restore :/
Wiped all except Dalvik - I thought Dalvik gets wiped when doing Wipe Data / Factory Reset ... but I will try again with wiping Dalvik too.
I tried again to restore this time with dalvik wipe - but no change - boot hangs at the LG logo with the grey/blue loading-bar, the bar is moving some seconds and then stops and nothing happens. :/
try to press power+vol down to reset the phone to factory default. see if it can help...
I've had similar problem.
phone wont boot.
Only way I found out, you can see here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15-03-2011/
but you will loose everything what is on your phone
The reason it won't work, is because MCR converts the file system to ext4 (which CM7 can cope with). To revert to stock, you need ext3 - either
1. Use this to convert back to ext3 and immediately restore the backup (don't reboot or it will go fubar) http://android.modaco.com/content/l...3-for-converting-your-device-er-back-to-ext3/
2. Use nvflash to restore the stock 10b, then flash Clockwork, and then restore your backup.
The choice is yours .

[Q] SOLVED - Cannot restore Nandroid backups. Phone stuck on LG screen.

I have seen the same issue on other models forum but could not answer my problem.
Whenever I restore a Nandroid backup using either ROM manager or CWM recovery, all goes fine but on reboot I am stuck on the 2nd LG logo.
The only fix I found is to restore the ROM, pull the battery, boot into recovery, re-install CM7 from the SD card.
This happens will ALL the backups I made while on CM7.
I can however restore and boot the original LG ROM I backed-up after rooting my phone.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks.
LG Optimus 2x
CM7 nightly 39 (but had the same with previous versions)
ROM manager premium 4.3.1.3
CWM recovery 3.0.2.8
Try wiping all caches (including dalvik in advanced) and fix permissions. Also you can try CWM 3.2.0.x (you have to install it manually, Rom Manager does not let me download it)
If u restoring nandroid backup of cm7, flash cm7 rom after u completed restoring backup then u reboot.
1. Restore nandroid backup
2. Flash cm7 rom
3. Reboot
I did wipe all, but it did not help.
I am not sure about CWM 3.2.0.1. I will give it a try.

It was a problem with the boot image not restoring properly (or at all perhaps), this should be fixed on CWM 3.2.0.1 (and possibly 3.2.0.0)
Thank you Rusty (and mikee2185).
Installed your 3.2.0.1 and it worked fine!
Cheers.

Great both of you rusty & pa64. I was facing the same problem with stock ROM restore with a certain version of CWM recovery. Rusty's 3.2.0.1 saved the day for me and restored successfully from the same backup which the other CWM version failed. Thanked both of you.
thanks temasek
it worked.

How to get gack to Gingerbread

Hi all
firstly I must give all the devs a thumbs up on their work in creating some great ICS roms, but infortunately i find the lag a little annoying so I want to go back to Gingerbread.
I still have S-on, I used HTC dev to unlock bootloader and installed clockworkmod, and currently running cooldroid rom.
Radio-3822.10.08.28_M and HBOOT - 2.00
I made a nandroid backup of my Optus GB bloatware rom but unsure of how to re-instalI...
I tried booting into clockwork recovery, and restoring backup, but phone didn't get past HTC splash screen after that, and then booted to recovery.
so i booted back into recovery and did a full format inc. delvic wipe and then restored backup, and still boots to splashcreen, switches off then boots to recovery...
i even tried extracting the boot image from optus backup and flashed that seperately using command prompt...
Am I missing a step here...
or should i just download a zip copy of the orig rom from the topic in the dev section eg:
RUU_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_Optus_AU_2.12.980.2_R_Radio_20.2803.30.085A ( but radio not the same ... )
reflashed back to cooldroid for time being.
any help would be apprieciated
Addy
That's am RUU you have to install those from a PC you cannot do them from your phone.
You could try a GB from the dev section. Nik trinity v5 is meant to be a good gb Rom ?

You might want to try this sequence:
Restore nandroid from recovery
Format cache and wipe dalvik
Flash boot.img in fastboot

Yes you will have to flash the boot.img from the backup directory in Fastboot mode.

OP mentioned flashing the boot.img in command prompt already, I was just assuming that doing the full wipe before restoring the nandroid as he was doing may have flashed a cache that was causing issues with bootup so I suggested wiping it after initial restore. I haven't had a grease deal of experience with stock Rom backups so I would like to hear your thoughts about it.
@addyhash another user (n1cnak) has located the Optus sense 3 ruu which would be the same version as you had installed. I have asked in his thread if he could upload it and if all else fails it would be a better solution than the ruu you mentioned in your post ( unless you planned to go s-off)

thanks for your prompt replay guys much appreciated, I ended up using this rom :
vivo_signed_RUU_VIVO_SENSE30_WWE_3.11.405.2_ROM.zip - ZIP , from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136463 ,
carried out full format inc dalvik wipe, and installed zip from recovery, restarted in fastboot and flashed boot image seperate and hey presto, completely unbloated gingerbread [email protected]! i now have HTC dock mode back, and there's enough memory that it doesn't take seven seconds for the camera settings screen to pop up lol...
thanks again

[Help]Stuck up with Recovery!!

Hi all,
Got a strange problem.. I'm using Nik project x v4.1 with .11 radio...today i got poor network signal, so I flashed radio again n it's working fine.
Then I planned to flash xcs kernel 2.2 and faceunlock for this Rom.
When I am recovery, I got message like. "You are in safe mode, please wipe cache. If u flashed hboot.img then format system"
I took nandroid and
1. fixed permission
2. Wiped cache
3. Format system
4. Flashed both zip files
When everything got over and upon clucking power menu->reboot got alert
"You are In safe mode. Unable to access system partitions. Please format system partition except sd. Reboot in recovery. Yes or no"
I clicked no and followed steps to install new Rom (wipe data factory, wipe cache n dalvik, format system, format partition except sd )restored my nandroid backup and again got same message that
"You are In safe mode. Unable to access system partitions. Please format system partition except sd. Reboot in recovery. Yes or no"
Please help me. Worrying that my mobile will be bricked. Please guide me to get rid off this..
Edit: I clicked reboot and my mobile booted normally. But under power menu, on clicking reboot, got into same problem. Please help me to avoid this. Worry something wrong in my mobile!!

When you formatted the /system partition, you wiped out Nik's ROM and then you only flashed a new kernel and a patch. That is why it you get the Unable to access system partitions.
You need to flash Nik's ROM again, then flash the kernel and then flash the patch.

Thanks tpbklake. Before formatting systems partition, I have taken nandroid backup. I restored nandroid but after that too, I got same alert.
Ok, I'll start from beginning. After flashing Nik Rom again, can I restore data.img from my nandroid.?

You changed the radio. Either gb -> ics or ics -> gb and this causes some change in the partition layout that's why recovery is asking you to format. What I don't understand is why you didn't just format the cache partition like it told you to. It would have saved us all some time.

I haven't changed the radio of two different versions. Earlier I was in ICS radio .11M and again flashed the same ICS radio..11M) Yes, I did cache format as well as instructed.
While flashing radio which supports same OS version, am I need to wipe cache or its not required?

If that's what the recovery is telling you to do, I would be inclined to agree.

About Vodafone's bootanimation:
Yes, but you need root in all the process because you will need to set the correct permission to vodafone's bootanimation files
Even to manage and do backups with CWM, so extract the bootanimation files, change amd set the correct permission over those and finally unroot your device
Did I understand you correctly?
