This is becoming a beginners guide for people like me...
Hello all and thanks in advance for any help you guys can lend me.
So what i have is an hp touchpad 16GB. it has ICS on it with dual boot webos
I want to put CM10 Schizoid tenderloin on it. (i have the files downloaded.)
Currently it doesn't have Clockwork recovery it has Teamwin recovery (TWRP)
I would prefer if it had clockwork, as i have not seen anything about TWRP on here.
So i would assume the best thing to do is factory wipe it back to just WEBOS but i have no idea how.
and then i could follow a tutorial from there (starting from scratch)
If there is an easier way that's good too, i would like to switch to Clockwork though... (unless you all insist it doesn't matter)
Please help me, this is a very different world than i am used to.
my experience with this type of stuff: I have rooted and flashed roms to my galaxy s3. I also have done plenty of apple jailbreaks too but that's super easy stuff compared to this.
all help is greatly appreciated!
UPDATE:
Well after tons of reading i found a couple ways to do this.
1. Follow this thread: THREAD LINK and get it 100% back to original even if having serious problems. (took me about 20 pages to realize this was too extensive for my needs)
2. Run the ACMEuninstaller, (i couldn't find a detailed thread on this but found a revkyle vid for it.) Get webos doctor 3.0 and open the Jar file (a java executable, install java if you don't already have, I didn't) add the acmeuninstaller file to the palm, inc folder. follow revkyles intructions in the video (link will go here, no time)
I read somewhere to run cyboot to get rid of moboot and something about preware... didn't have to do all that, uninstaller got it all off. (i think, correct me if i am wrong)
After you are all done wiping android off the HPTP, you can start from scratch.
I watched revkyle's idiots guide 2.0 video and it was pretty good. followed it exactly but sure enough encountered problems.
i am now running shizoid [ROM] [CM10] SCHIZOID all-in-one (CM10+AOKP M1+PA 2.55)[06MAR13 v1.20]
I'll update later. I don't really need anyone's help now, thanks anyways...

After updating my new Optimus 4X to 2.1 by waiting on LG's official update it seems slow and hangs when coming back to the homescreen so since people here said they have no issues on CM 10.1 I attempted to read up on how to do it all but got lost amongst all the sticky threads and various downloads etc to try and find a reasonably easy way to update to android 4.2.
Is there a more simple way to do everything I need to follow to have my phone from the current 2.1 latest LG update to CM 10.1 with 4.2 such as a single step by step thread in plain english that even new users could follow or view in a video? (I have previously updated a Sony x10 via similar methods but can't fully remember everything)
Threads/Sites I looked at that left me a little confused included:
Root method for v20a (and probably later) firmware (Had also looked at a site with instructions to use Googles sdk kit and cmd.exe to run adb oem -unlock...)
Update firmware through flashing the kdz files (With Picture) Step by Step (liked the look of this but is it needed if we already now have up to 2.1? Then tried to get files from CM 10.1 official site which never made much sense using this method requiring KDZ files or can .zips be used?)
Official ClockworkMod ROM Manager Downloads (tried a download of these then the latest seen here as Nightly releases but wasn't too sure how to use them after reading their wiki took me to some more serious looking developer areas)
[JB][412][CWM] ClockWorkMod 6.0.2.8 (FREEDOM for EUR-xxx) (Just started getting confused by here)
If anyone could help explain what happens in this whole process it'd be greatly appreciated as I tried reading a lot but ended up lost, and if there is a fairly straightforward way to do it if it can be shared to help anyone else too...
If not does anyone know if LG are likely to fix the issues with homescreen freezing/slow icons loading (phone non responsive for a few seconds - there was a couple of threads here, one with a solution that never worked) or bring an official release of 4.2 or beyond and should I just wait till then or try to go back to a working 4.0.3?
All help would be appreciated to point in the right direction with all the right threads/guide sites/videos needed to follow please.
Root your phone. Unlock your bootloader. Install recovery with ROM manager or off the thread in your post. Use clockworkmod to install cyanogenmod. I will not explain more because I fear you haven't done enough reading and may run into problems. Do the things I said in that order, and read the guides thoroughly. All the info is already here

Thank you, this worked and was what I needed, went about it in some fiddly ways but got there in the end...
Hi. I've been reading and reading over the last 6 weeks since I decided to install Android on my TP. I try to avoid posting unless absolutely necessary. I'm going to start with CM9 I think and if I want something a little smoother, I'll upgrade to CM10. My TP is currently at stock. I've read and reread countless tutorials and threads but I am trying to make sure I have the most up to date tutorial and one that doesn't expect I did something else beforehand (like preware installation, or a webos backup). Also, I'd like to install the dual boot option so I can still have Webos on my device. I haven't seen much on that in recent tutorials. I'd like to use the CM9 install instructions linked to on the sticky but it doesn't mention things like preware and CWM... which I read about in earlier tutorials. What do I need to do before the instructions on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452625 ? Thanks so much, I really appreciate it!

I'll start off by saying you're making the right choice throwing android on it and reading carefully before you do so. You'll most definitely need to install the novacom drivers on your computer before you try any of this. (I would include links, however I'm on my tablet, if you need any, just ask.) After that point, you'll need to download the ACMEinstaller (putting in the palm inc directory is optional, but recommended) For the most part, you should just be able to place the CM files onto the storage of your touchpad in the cminstall folder and from that point you can follow the instructions on the thread
As for keeping webOS, no need to worry about that. All installs of android that I know of simply add on the android, never replacing the webOS. You'll be installing moboot (essentially an OS chooser) that will allow you to pick which one you want on booting. It also allows you access to recovery. Very useful.
Also, I would honestly say to go ahead and install CM10. I'm staying off of CM10.1 for now ( <3 Bluetooth) but I would argue that the minor cons of CM10 outweigh the stability of CM9. Jcsullin's (If you haven't seen his name enough yet. One of the major players in the Touchpad development community) CM10 from April 18th is what I'm using now and aside from the stray reboot, I would go as far to say that it is as stable as WebOS. According to the build page the main issues on that right now is no flash video in browser (youtube app works fine) and battery drain is a little higher than webos but lasts about 2 days with steady use.
The install thread for that is here (I went through the extra effort to put the link in, that's how much I feel it's worth going to CM10)

Just noticed from pasting this in that they also need you to install Java if you haven't yet. That guide and youtube video is MUCH more comprehensive than the guide you linked. I would at least follow that until you get to what files to add. There is no difference in installing CM9 or CM10 besides the files you place in the CMinstall folder.
If you have questions, fire away, otherwise good luck on your adventure.

One more thing, use acmeinstaller3, it gives you the room necessary for cm10 and cm10.1.
Good luck.
Also this is an option as well. I'm sure it works, but it might take away the fun of the process.

My guide which is posted above (and in my signature) works from scratch and doesn't need you to have done anything in advance and works with CM9 or CM10. Personally I'd not bother with CM9 at this stage and would go straight to JCSullins CM10, I've used it for months with no problems at all, much smoother than CM9.
Gang, I have spent at least 20+ hours researching this and am now hopelessly confused. I own an HP Touchpad that came with 4.3.1 and I love it. I foolishly decided to buy one for my sister, but it has arrived with 4.0 and i want to upgrade it to 4.3.1 since it is more robust/stable, etc. Only I have no clue what to do. My being dyslexic doesn't help. The guides and FAQ/s are massive and the larger those pages are, the worse my Dyslexia becomes.
There is so much information on the web that is contradictory and it seems many times the videos are shot by people who skip "easy" steps as they think everyone is at least somewhat knowledgeable. Well I am not. I know jack.
I have read all the guides, watched all the videos I can get my hands on and am lost. Can someone please lend me a hand help me get this started? Right now I do not know where to begin. I am so screwed up and confused.
Again, I have a duel boot with WebOS and Android 4.0.3.
So please, what is my very first step? PLEASE do not just point me to a Guide. I have read them all. Many of them two and three times.
Am I right that I MUST remove the current Android? If so, how do I go about this? What are the basic steps, in order? These guides are HUGE in size and it's just overwhelming with my dyslexia.
Sorry to be a bother and a newbie, but with dozens of videos and guides I have no clue what is right or where to start.
Download this(click on the orange box on the right to download). Put it onto your Touchpad.
Then download 4.3 ROM of your choice, I would highly recommend this one (taken from this thread. Again move it onto your Touchpad (if you download using PC).
Then download this version of GAPPS (for Google Play Store, etc). Again, place on your TP if not already there.
Then boot into recovery.
Wipe system, data, cache and dalvick cache.
- flash the first zip to resize system partition (needed).
- flash ROM.
- flash gapps.
Reboot and you should be good to go
Hope this helps.
Cheers
First off, let me apologize for posting what has been semi-answered in several other threads. Im a lifer when it comes to android but still a noob at rooting and custom roms. I've been rooting for about 4 to 6months. mostly basic beginner stuff. this was my first attempt at flashing a custom rom, and well, the fact that I'm here lets you know how that went for me. So I've read 30 or more threads between this site and some others and tried a handful of methods to fix but i lack the knowledge or lingo to properly understand some of the things that I've read. So anyone kind enough to break things down barney style like a bootloop for dummies for me id be forever in your debt. Here is my issue...
Once i found out that the note 3 n900a of mine is not compatible with clockwork mod or team win recovery i found and downloaded the SafeStrap recovery and flashed the biggins custom rom and even tho i tried going by the guide i read i must have went wrong somewhere and got myself stuck in boot loop or soft brick.
I've tried downloading a stock firmware for the note 3 and reflashing with heimdall. i thought it was going to work since everything went according to the guide i read 100% but it still failed.
from reading other forums I have also downloaded these programs:
1. android studio sdk
2. Java and latest JDK 7
3. zip devil
4. heimdall suite - heimdall frontend
maybe more I've forgot.
Could anyone please help explain to me the easiest method for a beginner to recover from boot loop? I can't even get my phone to boot back into safestrap recovery. only screens i can access is stock recovery mode...adb factory reset cear cache external sd etc. and Odin download mode. When i tried using the safestrap recovery i saved to my ext sd card saved as twrp file that the program mirrors, I'm not sure if I'm loading the wrong files within this folder or perhaps the wrong order or if this recovery won't even work for me at all.
I've downloaded all of the above mentioned programs but I'm not at all familiar with properly using them to do what i need with them. Please, anyone, explain this in english to someone who isn't skilled or long term rooter. if you need any more info on my issue please contact me any way you can or ask for a way to contact me externally and ill provide that as well.
first off this isnt my tablet and i know nothing about it. its my dads and he installed clockwork mod? and cyanogenmod on android 4.4.4 on it. Well a few years ago he stopped using it in place of another tablet. he recently rediscovered it and decided he wanted to update it but doest remember what he did.. so my question is this ( and feel free to just send links to the information and ill figure it out ) i have none of the recovery roms or anything. so what would be the best rom to install and should i search for the stock rom first and restore it to factory then find the most stable rom while still being lightweight.
Cyanogenmod 11 is probably what you're running. The instructions for that are here. I've personally been using Evervolv for a loooong time. I just use mine to read comics. You can find Evervolv info here. I just got on today to see if there's been anything new. I may try out this ROM here.
The original operating system on the Touchpad was webOS, not Android, so I'm not sure what you mean by "Stock ROM." If you've already got clockwork and CM on there, you'd be better off installing TWRP and following the instructions in the links above. It's been so long since I've done anything with mine, I can't remember steps either, lol.
