I had some similar issues with another Android phone. The problem was in the charger, too much noise was bugging the phone. If you have Fast Charge option enabled in 4.2.2, the load on charger increases along with the noise in charging line. Not sure if it's your case, just sharing some experience.
Are you using a laptop to charge? I know sometimes when you charge through the laptop, media sync can chew quite a bit of cpu cycles.

True, but only if you have USB data transfer enabled. Otherwise no data connection between the two and no media sync either.

Bro, the problem is in one of the following:
1. charger (try different charger of plug the phone to your computer's USB - same result?)
2. phone's charging circuit (not easy to fix)
3. battery's charging circuit (try different battery, each one has own charge control logic - same result?)

i think problem is on code of rom

If same thing happens with different ROMs, then most likely it's not a software related issue.
If you feel it is software/rom related try "timelines usage" app (available on playstore)
That can tell you what task is occupying your cpu.
I think the issue is battery/hardware related which is aggravated by most roms..except the one. Timelines usage might help to narrow down ...

Re: charger lag
Another reason (not as likely) could be that the ROMs you installed had the Battery Bar option and Charging Animation enabled. I use the battery bar at the top of the status bar instead of using a battery icon or text, and the animations while charging slow my device a bit. I can't recall if the charging animation is enabled by default. If it is hardware-related, it is interesting that you are not seeing this issue while on GB or ICS.

Use the Nook Cable and Nook Charger. Period. If you do, 1.9A charge current. If you dn't, .5A charge current.
on the stock kernal, B&N explicitly say that the ONLY way to charge the Nookcolor is via the charge brick/USB cable, that you will not be able to charge the Nookcolor via a usb port of your PC.
I did notice that once I went to the Froyo and C7 Roms that I could charge on my USB ports of my PC, but MUCH slower than via the power brick.

Yes, nook charger. I ran CM7 from SD and nothing changed but once I flashed cm7 with tablet tweaks the batt seemed to drain fast and charge slow.
There's a reason why some choose not to go to CM7. CM7 suffers the "sleep of death" and so is always ON, even when it appears to be sleeping.
This would result in slower charging as the device is fully active all the time.

Actually, I've been using it for about 5 days off the SD card and it's not as bad as I had heard. I see 1%/hr when it's "asleep" vs .2%/hr I saw on stock. So in terms of charge speeds etc, fairly insignificant.
I must say though, my time between charges since going to CM7 have been much smaller... because I'm playing with the NC a lot more

Yes, they do say that... and yes, they are lying. Even on the stock B&N OS, I was able to charge just fine (although slowly) from a standard USB port. You don't get a "charging" indicator but, if you watch the battery level, it does slowly increase.

This is not exactly correct... All NC ROMs are subject to the "sleep of death" problem where the device can crash when put to sleep due to a kernal bug. It would frequently happen to me in Froyo.
CM7 works around this bug by simply not letting the device fully sleep. This is a temporary measure until the new kernal without this bug is ready. This technically makes CM7 the only ROM that doesn't "suffer the 'sleep of death'," as you say.
I'll take slightly shorter battery life over constantly needing to reboot any day of the week.

Not a chance, they use different scheme for power management, video and audio subsystems are difference I believe... CM7(2.3) needs a 2.6.35 kernel to run, 2.1 runs on a 2.6.29, and 2.2 runs on 2.6.32... theres not a snowballs chance in hell that a stock kernel will run CM7
And I seem to use ~10-15% battery in a day on CM7, whatever, I'll charge it every 2 days and I'm fine. CM7 RC4 @ 1.1ghz with Hard menu/back keys make this device close to PERFECT!

this is good to know. i was under the impression it was a cm7 issue. explains why my nookiecomb installation had sleep of death yesterday.
someone else mentioned that drain wasn't all that bad on cm7 when they tried it. One thread i read, that some of the more recent nightly builds seemed to lower the drain a bit. wish i'd remember the thread it was though.
My GT-N7000 yesterday developed this issue:
When I boot it (no USB cable to power it), the battery shows empty (grep battery icon, with a charging circle).
A second or so later, it switches to show a half-full battery, with charging dots below. and it vibrates for about a second.
Again, another second ro so later it goes back to showing an empty battery and the cycle continues.
If I attach a UCB charging cable, it boots fine, shows the battery as 100%
If I remove the charging cable, it loses power. When switched on again, this all starts over.
I saw this on ICS (4.0.4, stock, German) and there i also had the battery icon in normal more switching between
charging and blinking to not charging. I found a recommendation that upgrading might help, so I
did apply the JB update I had downloaded a few days ago, but this does happen
under JB too (OTA German 4.0.4, then flashed with Phil's-stock plus cwn6)
Is there anything can can be done? Is this a hardware issue or something that some form of total reset might cure?
As it is, I cannot use the phone w/o having it externally powered through my powerbank or car charger.
This happens with two batteries, so it's not the battery that is broken
I really think this one is battery problem as I have experienced the same thing..
are the batteries you tested New?
just my 2 cents.

No, I've had both a fow a while.
I may buy a third just to test but I fear I may have to get a replacement phone soon , sniff
Though I would suggest that you get a new set of batteries...they solved the problem for me.
While you are at it, please search the forum for another solution that worked for me- "cleaning the micro-usb slot"...its an easy process but needs to be done a little carefully.
either of the two would definitely work for you...speaking from experience!

Unfortunately its not possible for me to charge my s3 mini with this external battery.
The cable and the battery is okay, tested that with other devices.
Anyone can solve this problem or has it too?

same Thing when i restart the phone with external battery plugged on, there just happens nothing, normal boot process without any hint of charging^^
Ahh really? I had same issue and my method seemed to work are you trying with ur usb cable that came with the phone or the one that cane with the battery power. Try both out

What do you mean with "the one that cane with the battery power"?
Ive tried a lot of different usb cables they work all with the original charging-adapter but None with the external battery
tried it with the Amazon Basics usb cable, original Samsung data cable and the cable from the old Motorola xt 720 ^^
But thank you for the answer
strange.. when device is off can it charge or it doesnt charge at all with the samsung data cable. If it does charge while off, when its charging turn on the phone and it should charge as well.

Sadly that doesn´t work too. The device is doing absolutely nothing when i restart it from the turned off charging. Its like it wouldn´t know that theres a cable that wants to Charge it.

Same problem here. No matter what external battery pack, this S3 mini is not detecting the battery pack as a charger. All of these packs work just fine with any other phone: tried with 2 SII, i8910, different Nokia phones, Blackberrry's etc.
I suspect that somewhere in the kernel there's no "3rd" unknown source or it has odd values, or it's somewhere else, but definitely soft problem as phone usb port works fine and recharges just fine from PC or laptop with any and every usb cable. Same goes for wall chargers. I haven't tried with car chargers just yet, but might do so. Just the phone is not mine, it's my wife's phone so I can't just take it with me.
Any suggestions?
Just a quicky: Is your phone trying or connecting to a PC in MTP mode?
XXAMA2 rom here and it always has only MTP or Picture mode, maybe this triggers something if on external power pack?
Edit: BTW, even when phone is turned off it won't charge the battery from the 3rd party external battery packs... weird.
Edit2: It started to charge out of 2.1A port on external pack after 5 minutes... then continued to charge once the phone is turned on. Later I unplugged it and plugged in again and it won't charge if the phone is on. Oh well, at least it can charge if first turned off. At least that when on the road and without wall plug...
Even more strange is what I'm getting now when plugging to Duracel external pack - phone starts the music player on it's own and starts to play... I think it's defo something related to MTP or such...
Strange. My power bank works just fine. The charging indicator shows when I plug my S3Mini with my power bank. (Cheap chinese brand. 5200mAh, 1.0 A)
Usually when the USB indicator showed up when you plug your external power source, the cable is the one with 4 lines (two for transferring data, and the other two for receiving electricity needed for charging, or +/- ).
Try using the USB cable with two lines only (electricity lines only, without data transferring lines)

Well, after trying all USb cables I have in my house I found one that is CHARGING IT!!! I dunno what wires it has or not and I don't care ATM. Point is there's nothing (EDIT) wrong with battery packs nor the phone. It all still indicates damn MTP kicking in where it shouldn't IMO. Dang Samsung for screwing it all up yet another time.
Still, I'm happy it CAN work all right, so no more depleted battery when on the road / trip
Thanks for a great suggestion there!

i just bought an extra battery.lets see how it goes.
i noticed my old battery had a small bump in the middle seems bloated. hmm
i remembered last time i used xperia s charger trice,it has 1.5kA it realy charge fast. i think that caused the problem?
when my sister charge her xperia s, the charger just explode.. and she scolded me why am i using her charger.
im using my old charger which is 700ma but it charge just fine. lately when i use the xperia s charger and went back to my old one,it was acting strange. it charges really slow and if i use the phone,it depletes even when charging.
im going to flash another rom,and see if its rom related or the battery isue.
thanks for replying.
ok,im on with my new battery but still depletes while im using it. im just browsing. on the widget it say im currently charging with 1000ma. wierd, dont know how to solve this.
[SYMPTOMS I HAD] it would charge very slowly, if the screen is on, it would actually discharge. When the phone was off, it would slowly charge (i.e. >5 hours to full charge). and it would discharge very quickly (i.e. 1% per 2~3 mins). When the phone was off, it would charge sometimes and sometimes not. Figured that when the phone was off, you really are negating much of the software influences so this could be a hardware issue, however, wanted to make sure before going down the hardware route.
Did some research, searched the forums and searched some more.
I had tried 5 different chargers, 3 different USB cables and had bought a replacement battery.
Steps taken:
1. Cleaned with thick paper - no change
2. Cleaned with thick paper & rubbing alcohol - no change
3. Cleared with Compressed gas - no change (on first charge, there was a change but then back to normal)
4. Attempted to clean with vacuum (with finer nozzle) - no change
5. Used charging apps from playstore - didn't show charging details - considered the port was faulty
6. Tried to find default references for charging as mentioned in one of the forums - unable to find it
7. Found a replacement USB port charger board and replaced it - working fine
So it could be the actual port is faulty. If you symptoms match, it could be time to take it into the service centre, restoring to stock first of course. The note I am using had slow charging for about 2 months prior to really slow charging.
i had change the usb port and its back to normal. 2hrs at least and its full.
Fingers crossed, thats all you need.

For a start (but of course not wanting to ruin your chance to search yourself): replace the battery with a new one.
