This problem didn't occur for the first time on your so special device.
For a start (but of course not wanting to ruin your chance to search yourself): replace the battery with a new one.

If it charges fine, then i dont see why the USB port will be damaged.

[SOLVED] Usb charging/port problem

Hi guys,
I'm having a problem with my incs lately, it WILL ONLY charge on any mode other than charge only... That means I can only charge it using a computer on either usb tether/usb storage. (When its in USB Storage, I can read my SD card from my computer)
The problem come when i tried to try the USB host using the Y cable, I think i messed up somewhere. The phone thinks that there is a data session running INTO my device, and to make things worse, I set my USB to PC connection to Disk Drive by default. After I unplug the device from the Y cable the Disk Drive symbol still exist and the led (orange) still lighting up. I connect it to the charger and plug off, it seems to turn off the disk mount and led. However after that point, I can't never charge using charger/usb charge only. (Its a flash drive and a 5VDC power source on the other end of the Y cable if you are wondering)
I have tried flashing different ROMs, even charge when the device is off, charge in recovery, and wipe battery status. None works.
So... For now I think I fried the USB controller, so can anyone suggest any solution? HW replacement or a SW that will make the phone think all plug that goes to the microusb is a data? or any other?
Thank you in advance

Well, I failed using it, I was using ARHD, and there was no USB host capability.
Can someone suggest what the problem might be? Is it just the port or something deeper? If its just port, thank god this spare part is avaiable

Or its the controller

You can change what it defaults to, can't you? Change it to charge only mode. How is your device unlocked and have you done any other mods?
I can assure you its not something to do with the mod/software. Currently the phone cant be charged t all unless you charge the battery separately.
I think when i plug a charger , the current goes in reverse direction, making it discharge even faster, rather than charging

That's actually not possible, but you may have a charger issue. Have you tried another one?

Galaxy S charging problem!

Hi there, first post on this forum, sorry for any mistakes.
I have 2 problems with my SGS: (Running an ICS root, not sure which one, came with it on when I bought it on eBay a couple of weeks ago.)
1: I have a charging problem where it will sometimes charged fully, which I am happy with, but other times it will actually discharge whilst 'charging' according to the lock screen. It will charge sometimes, slow down, then go backwards after a while, ending up with a flat phone when I wake up in the morning... The problem started when I used a wall charger from a SG Spica, but then worked fine again when I used the charger I got with the phone. It has now started to screw up again which is annoying. I have purchased a new 3500Mah battery for it so I don't know whether this will sort the problem out.
2: The mini USB port is slightly broken so I have to pull up on the cable otherwise it isn't picked up and won't charge. This is also annoying as if it moves slightly during a charge it won't charge at all. I tried fixing it with a toothpick but it didn't really help. I think the problem is that the connector/contact is slightly bent.
Thanks for your help!

Where will I be able to purchase a new micro USB from? I think I would be able to do this otherwise.

yep, and if the USB pins are shorting in the micro USB slot or your battery contacts needs some cleaning, these can happen, as well it looks as though you have too many notifications or widgets running, also a reason for heavy battery consumption.

battery drain on charger without any oppened apps

hi all, i am using my note for more than 3 months with non original charger, and usb cable also sn't original, but my phone was charging well, but i upgraded to JB then reverted back to ICS, and now when i put my device on the charger or USB, and without using it, i see in battery status that my phone isn't charging, but the charging animation is working, and i see that it is charging in the lock screen, and my phone drain very fast,
i installed battery monitor widget, and it show me "USB Charger" but give me Discharging, and charging randomley, and when it gives me discharging i see in the battery health error like" unspecified error ocured"
as i said, it just charge fine some times, and some other times it gives me "discharging", i was using this USB, And the charger for more than 3 months without any problem
don't know if it i software or hardware related
any idea ?
sorry for my bad english
two things you can try...
1. Flash to stock GB and try charging it again.
2. if you tried step 1 and still doesn't work, try replacing your charger/usb cable and/OR, CLEAN OUT your usb charge port on your phone. Perhaps there's some lints and dusts there already that have accumulated overtime, causing your issue/s at hand.

[Q] Captivate i897 indicates that it's charging, but loses power

My Captivate won't charge. The indicator in the notification bar says that it's charging, when I go Settings>About phone>Status>Battery status says it's charging, but it loses power down to zero. I bought an external battery charger and that's the only way I can use my phone now. I bricked it a while back and unbricked and rooted it with Heimdal One-click. No change to ROM or Kernel just loaded some 3rd party software. I've tried taking out the battery and holding the power button for 10 seconds or longer to no avail. I'm a novice with all this and found the solution to my bricked situation by wading through post on here. I spent a lot of time looking for a solution to the charging issue but found nothing that worked. Really frustrated. Please give some guidance on what else I could try.

and a different cable and charger?
Sent from my I-897, without a sound.
Check with Betterbatterystats if you have a wakelock running, or flash another rom. I had good battery with CM 10.1, the roms based on it were spending more battery for no reason.
I actually have three different batteries that I'm switching between with my external charger: one old, and two fairly new. I found that the stock usb cable is garbage. I'm using one that i bought fairly recently. I'll try using an even newer cable.

Make sure the cable you are using has all pins connected.
I've seen micro USB cables with only data pins connected, but no power pins.

Help: Not charging

My model is F8132, 39.2.A.0.374.
Now the charging problem is driving me crazy: it's not charging with any wall charger. More precisely:
1. When power-on and connected to wall charger, NOTHING happens.
2. When power-off and connected to wall charger, red light pops out for a second and disappears, "SONY" pops out for seconds, and then the battery sign comes out WITHOUT charging.
3. The phone IS charging when connected to the computer in any case.
4. In fastboot mode when connected to the wall charger, IT'S charging.
I have to tried to use the Companion to repair, and to use flashtool to flash the firm that I have been using, both don't work. I have not unlocked the bootloader, or rooted the phone.
To my knowledge, it seems that the kernel is not working well when it is supposed to recognise the wall charger, but I hesitate to flash a rooted kernel since I never do anything crazy.
Please tell me what to do! GREAT THANKS!
I have some problems charging my Xperia X depending on the cable I use (I have a few different micro USB cables from old phones) . Did you try a different cable?

Not yet. But why should it work? I have flashed the same firmware, the ROM should be absolutely rewritten, and if the kernel is not completely renewed, why should it be renewed when I flash other versions?
So now I have two conjectures, one is that the kernel is hurt which will not be completely rewritten when we flash the device in usual ways, the other is that something is hurt beneath the kernel level.
But anyway, I'm not an IT guy, and I really need experts now.

If there are some blocks of the storage where the kernel is that are not completed rewritten and/or that are damage, it is very weird or lucky for you that you can still boot and it messed only with that very specific part for charging, and not some other part.

So if you can still boot I would discard that the kernel is damaged... It might be some weird bug with your very specific phone and that very specific kernel, so to rule that out you need to change change the kernel flashing another firmware version, and with a different kernel if it is still not charging, then I would say it is something other than the kernel, maybe some specific hardware part with some code inside that helps charging the phone. If it is hardware related you would need to take to sony.
Bur as I said, it seems software related as you can charge with a computer.

I have the same problem, x peria xp SOV33 cannot fill properly and very long when the phone is active, it doesn't even charge when the cellphone turns off.
I can not get into flash & quick boot mode.
replacing a similar charger cable and adapter does not help at all.
after a few days I made my own charger cable.
combining usb cable with utp cable. (I mean making a single cable charger, not a fiber).
I'm connected to the fast charging adapter version.
and this works.
but the problem is the device can not enter flashmode & fastboot.
I do not guarantee how this will work for all.
the risk of hardware damage is borne by each
sorry my english is very bad

Hi, I have a Sony Xperia X compact that has suddenly stopped charging using either the dedicated wall charger. It will charge using my external battery pack, but when it is plugged into the wall charger it will not charge. At first I assumed it was the charger itself, as the micro USB cable was obviously working with my battery pack. The charger I bought was also a genuine Sony one, but this didn't work either, so both this and the original one was used on my husband’s Nokia Lumina 520 which also has a micro USB port for charging and it charges that fine. I then got another micro USB lead and that didn't work either, so I tried my husband’s charger on my phone and again, no charging activity.
It's a weird one, as I don’t understand why it won’t recognise a wall charger but is fine with my batter pack and of not it doesn’t recognise a computer either.
