Mounting phone without HTC sync - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to mount this phone as a mass storage device?. My work computer is very limited and locked down. With previous Samsung and apple phones I was always able to plug into my work pc and transfer over pictures because is mount the phone. Now I am not able to do that.
Any suggestions?

I think the only reason you need sync manager is the htc driver for Windows to recognize the phone. When I plugged mine in without it, I got the notification "device not recognized" but with it it said "installing driver" which then let me explore it like a drive. I'm sure you could find the driver somewhere on xda though if you can't install sync manager I'm not sure if you could install an external driver...
You could always just do Bluetooth transfer no?

I don't think that will work. I just don't get why HTC has to be difficult with this....

Does the computer not have Bluetooth or something? I ask because I transferred pictures to my PC by Bluetooth last week so I know it can work.
A bit OT, but unless it was jailbroken no apple product will let you drag pictures onto it like a usb drive. So I'm assuming yours was in which case you can bypass the need for a driver. Anyway, how about Dropbox? I use that frequently too and it works great for pictures (or anything really). Plus you don't have to install anything on the PC.

Ever since JellyBean, I have not been able to mount any Android device as Mass Storage, plus I read it has to do with the JellyBean system itself rather than the device. So in short, no, you cannot, unless there's a third party application for that.

Sorry if I'm missing some trick to airdroid, but in the above post Op said they could only access one website on the computer - I. E. The phone can't be paired because the computer won't accept the airdroid website, and there may not even be an identical wifi network from the sounds of it anyway.

Hmm.. sounds like a tricky situation.. Maybe the OP can create an ad-hoc network from the cell phone and use that to transfer files? I'm not sure if it'll work never tried it, just thinking out loud?

Possible, though I really doubt the computer could connect to an ad hoc wifi network based on the info so far. Without bluetooth I think you're out of luck for file transfer on that computer with the One...Except of course the old awkward standby: email

its easy. just install the all the htc sync stuff. drivers and all. then uninstall htc sync. on my computer it left the htc drivers on the computer and when i plug in it recognizes as an HTC one media device and i can browse the internal memory as if i was on ES file manager

My N1 and Windows 7(No connection while USB mode)

It seems that when I try to connect my n1 to my CPU, my CPU can not recognize my n1 SD card while its in USB mode.
I am currently running window 7 32b. I thought it was my windows that was faulty so reformat my CPU with fresh copy of windows. However that was not the case. So I tried my other computer running windows XP and it picks up the SD card instantly. So I tried a new SD card in my N1 tried it again. Didn't work. I am confused. Everytime I need to transfer files from my CPU to my n1 I have to pull out the SD card. Its strange. All the drives were installed correctly but it will not detect. Other CPU will detect. Is anyone having this issue with windows 7 on your computer. I wan to fix this. Its really getting annoying. Please if you guys have any ideas let me know. I even called HTC and they figured out its my CPU not the phone. And I agree. It works on other windows but not my windows 7.

Make sure usb debugging is checked marked before trying to mount....See if that works
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
USB debugging works fine. I am able to use adb commands. Funny thing is phone thinks its in USB mode. There's got to be some driver issue or something. Drivin me crazy.

If all else fails...get one of those WiFi file transfer apps. Way, Way, Way faster than transfering through the USB cord on the N1 (tops out at 2mbps).

Thx I will give it a try.

Try another PC. My Home PC that I built used to recognize it... then stopped... then wouldn't for weeks... and just the other day I noticed it found it (after a minute).
Today on my netbook (EeePC 1000HE) it gave me fits a few times before coming up.
Nothing really changed on my Home PC really and USB sticks would read just fine, but not my N1. I know I reset the thing many times without success so finding it working was surprising.
One thing I use are my existing mini-usb cables and I picked up these little mini-micro usb converters. Perhaps those are flaky?

On Screen Phone

Hi, does anyone ever succeed with LG On Screen Phone? i've installed all drivers including ADB ( with usb debugging both on and off method ) but it always fail to connect everytime after it asks to input the password (0-0-0-0). please help.
thnx!
i had problems at first but it was due to a driver problem. i use windows XP. i can use it both via usb and bluetooth, though much slower with BT but with USB the phone gets very hot as it's charging with too little power.
it's an awesome feature, like if your texting with someone you can write way faster, perfect when you're at work.
i've read about that some people had to use usb debug to make it work but i don't. make sure there's no yellow exlamation marks in the device manager, cause then some drivers aren't properly installed.

You could also try droid vnc server beta, its more like a remote desktop server but for the phone so its the same but it will go through wifi or 3g, i didnt get it to work but i think its because of my isp.

Hahaa I know, although I'm using mac in the office for some macos exclusive software but no thanx I prefer PC as main computer to do design job, moreover I have EIZO IPS monitor at my office and AOC IPS for my home PC so mac is not required.
Yeah osp is working now, thx man. But it has annoying bug, when I press power off button directly on the phone then powered on again to display lockscreen, osp won't update. So I must restart osp...
Unfortunately I don't have wifi on my computer so I can't try it. Maybe I'll test it at my office.

[Q] Is there a way to enable Mass Storage mode when plugged into my computer?

I understand that it's all mounted internally so there is no sdcard partition, but is there anyway to transfer files directly over usb?
Airdroid works, but sometimes it's a pain when I just want to transfer something quick.
It's defaulted to on for me, just plug it in and your computer should automatically read it.
weird, when I plug it in, it doesn't show up.
Device Manager doesn't even refresh when I plug it in.
I was able to unlock it via adb, but it's now showing up as a Mass Storage Drive at all.
May need to install drivers.

I installed the x64 drivers from HTC so I could unlock the phone, but nothing else yet. Do you know what drivers are needed?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I just remembered seeing windows automatically install them. First couple of times, it said it failed to install. Tried later and opened the windows driver install window by clicking the bubble stating it's installing and watched it install them successfully.
You may need to turn off debug mode too though. I'm guessing you needed to turn that on to unlock.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
hm.. debug mode is off, and just to test it, I plugged it into my work computer, which hasn't had any type of phone device plugged into it previously.
still nothing.
It doesn't mount as a mass storage device, per se. It's mounted as MTP.It won't show up as a drive Explorer, it will show up as a device: HTCONE. Hopefully you see that. In there, you'll see "Internal Storage" or something. Those are your files.

This is true. Windows lists it below your hard drives and disc drives in Computer.

You might try installing sync manager from the htc website which will load the drivers needed and then you can uninstall sync manager.

[Q] Phone not connecting to my windows 8 PC with HTC sync manager!!!!

As the title says, when I connect my phone, its prompts install of HTC sync manager which I do and shows the UI for "Music Gallery Files More"
It syncs the music and photos but they dont show up on my phone and "files and more" tabs are greyed out!
I have reinstalled but it still acts idiotic!:silly:
My phone has usb debugging on, I cant even get the genetic usb storage to show up on my comp.

PLEASEEEEE HELP!

"USB device not recognized" - worked fine yesterday [SOLVED]

When I tired connecting my HTC vivid to my computer through the recovery's 'enable MS-USB' option, my computer (Windows 7 64-bit) states that is does not recognize the device (I get the list of ports, and can see the "unkown device"). I've plugged it in multiple times, but it still doesn't recognize it. Fastboot doesn't seem to recognize the device either (using "fastboot devices -s" displays nothing.
The cable seems to work fine, as it connects my LG rumor touch to my PC just fine and I can see all of its SD card contents.
I was having issues getting my vivid connected and charging before, so I'm thinking it might be the charge port. Any agreements, advice, or other suggestions?
----------------
UPDATE!!!
----------------
Just got my new charge port in today, and I can say without a doubt that my problem was the charge port! Popped the new one in (I almost laughed at how easy it was compared to replacing a cracked digitizer), and right away I noticed that the new port sort of... kept the cable plugged in better. It started charging instantly as opposed to the game of getting it to sit just right, and my computer immediately started to install drivers.
Hooray! Now I can fastboot again! And actually transfer files from my computer to my phone easily! And actually charge the damn thing without feeling like I'm trying to find its g-spot.
I recall getting something similar to that quite a while ago (I think it was back on CM10.1, so this was a LONG time ago ) where my computer (Win 7 Home Premium 64bit) wouldn't recognize my Raider when I connected it via the USB charge/transfer cable that came with it. And also like you, fastboot was not recognizing my phone either.
I think what I did then was restart my PC as I figured that perhaps it was failing to load the drivers upon that boot. And after my PC restarted and everything was stable again, I connected my phone to it and it understood it with no issues. Hasn't happened to me since.
Also, what recovery are you using? I use TWRP 2.6.3.0 and I've never had any issues with it.
I'm using CWM made for wcx, but cannot remember the version number. Unfortunately restarting my PC hasn't fixed the issue for me, nor did booting into another OS.

Unless I'm mistaken, an ruu wouldn't help me, as my PC does not recognize the phone at all, no matter how I attempt to make them communicate.
Also, I've never heard or read about cwm recovery screwing up or ruining anyone's phone. I got the impression it was one of the most stable recoveries.

As lame as this sounds, I find that when I get this error message, it is not driver-related.. it's USB port related. My front USB ports do this to me sometimes, so I have to reach to the back and plug in to one of those... that usually does the trick.
So far, didn't matter what USB port I use. Also reinstalled windows (had to do it anyway) and no change. I'll try it in my gfs computer tonight.
