"USB device not recognized" - worked fine yesterday [SOLVED] - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

When I tired connecting my HTC vivid to my computer through the recovery's 'enable MS-USB' option, my computer (Windows 7 64-bit) states that is does not recognize the device (I get the list of ports, and can see the "unkown device"). I've plugged it in multiple times, but it still doesn't recognize it. Fastboot doesn't seem to recognize the device either (using "fastboot devices -s" displays nothing.
The cable seems to work fine, as it connects my LG rumor touch to my PC just fine and I can see all of its SD card contents.
I was having issues getting my vivid connected and charging before, so I'm thinking it might be the charge port. Any agreements, advice, or other suggestions?

UPDATE!!!
----------------
Just got my new charge port in today, and I can say without a doubt that my problem was the charge port! Popped the new one in (I almost laughed at how easy it was compared to replacing a cracked digitizer), and right away I noticed that the new port sort of... kept the cable plugged in better. It started charging instantly as opposed to the game of getting it to sit just right, and my computer immediately started to install drivers.
Hooray! Now I can fastboot again! And actually transfer files from my computer to my phone easily! And actually charge the damn thing without feeling like I'm trying to find its g-spot.

I recall getting something similar to that quite a while ago (I think it was back on CM10.1, so this was a LONG time ago ) where my computer (Win 7 Home Premium 64bit) wouldn't recognize my Raider when I connected it via the USB charge/transfer cable that came with it. And also like you, fastboot was not recognizing my phone either.
I think what I did then was restart my PC as I figured that perhaps it was failing to load the drivers upon that boot. And after my PC restarted and everything was stable again, I connected my phone to it and it understood it with no issues. Hasn't happened to me since.
Also, what recovery are you using? I use TWRP 2.6.3.0 and I've never had any issues with it.

I'm using CWM made for wcx, but cannot remember the version number. Unfortunately restarting my PC hasn't fixed the issue for me, nor did booting into another OS.

If you are going to insist on using CWM... Make sure you have an RUU handy for when it breaks your phone...
It WILL happen...

Unless I'm mistaken, an ruu wouldn't help me, as my PC does not recognize the phone at all, no matter how I attempt to make them communicate.
Also, I've never heard or read about cwm recovery screwing up or ruining anyone's phone. I got the impression it was one of the most stable recoveries.

CWM is improperly compiled...
WCX is amon ra based... And works as far as I know
And TWRP is what I use... And hasn't steered me wrong yet

OK, now that I have flash image GUI, i 'll try twrp and see of that fixes my issue. I did find out that my micro USB chargers don't seem to charge the phone anymore, only hooking up to my computer charges it.

As lame as this sounds, I find that when I get this error message, it is not driver-related.. it's USB port related. My front USB ports do this to me sometimes, so I have to reach to the back and plug in to one of those... that usually does the trick.

So far, didn't matter what USB port I use. Also reinstalled windows (had to do it anyway) and no change. I'll try it in my gfs computer tonight.

Try this solution: Uninstall any torrent software, restart the computer and try again.

Multiple operating systems, multiple machines, no torrent software on my windows 7 side.

My N1 and Windows 7(No connection while USB mode)

It seems that when I try to connect my n1 to my CPU, my CPU can not recognize my n1 SD card while its in USB mode.
I am currently running window 7 32b. I thought it was my windows that was faulty so reformat my CPU with fresh copy of windows. However that was not the case. So I tried my other computer running windows XP and it picks up the SD card instantly. So I tried a new SD card in my N1 tried it again. Didn't work. I am confused. Everytime I need to transfer files from my CPU to my n1 I have to pull out the SD card. Its strange. All the drives were installed correctly but it will not detect. Other CPU will detect. Is anyone having this issue with windows 7 on your computer. I wan to fix this. Its really getting annoying. Please if you guys have any ideas let me know. I even called HTC and they figured out its my CPU not the phone. And I agree. It works on other windows but not my windows 7.

Make sure usb debugging is checked marked before trying to mount....See if that works

USB debugging works fine. I am able to use adb commands. Funny thing is phone thinks its in USB mode. There's got to be some driver issue or something. Drivin me crazy.

If all else fails...get one of those WiFi file transfer apps. Way, Way, Way faster than transfering through the USB cord on the N1 (tops out at 2mbps).

Thx I will give it a try.

Try another PC. My Home PC that I built used to recognize it... then stopped... then wouldn't for weeks... and just the other day I noticed it found it (after a minute).
Today on my netbook (EeePC 1000HE) it gave me fits a few times before coming up.
Nothing really changed on my Home PC really and USB sticks would read just fine, but not my N1. I know I reset the thing many times without success so finding it working was surprising.
One thing I use are my existing mini-usb cables and I picked up these little mini-micro usb converters. Perhaps those are flaky?

[Q] Running out of USB ports to get ODIN working!

Hey guys today my second USB port stopped working for ODIN.
The front two on my PC don't work for it and I got 4 left on the back, is there any way to solve this issue?
uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers then rebooting has always fixed it for me. if that isn't working i've got no clue. sorry i couldn't be more helpful i guess.
Yea I know but same problem.
I'm anxiously saving money for a GS2 and Netbook.

also have the same problem with my old pc, two front usb don't work with odin, but work with anything else.
I've had this same problem, and I haven't been able to fix it. But now I've switched to Ubuntu and Heimdall.
I don't know if this will work for you, but this USBDeview looks like it might do the trick: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
I assume you are using Windows, and if you are, there is one trick that I have used in the past to fix other devices. This *might* work for you. Try removing the non present devices from device manager. In order to do this, you need to Google how to view Nonpresent devices in device manager. This trick will show you every device that has every been plugged into each USB port. You can then go in and remove the drivers that were previously installed for your phone on that port. Whenever you remove the nonpresent device, next time it is plugged in, the computer will think that it has never been plugged into that USB port before.
Hope that helps!
Im serious about the new cable. I had a problem with the default usb cable before until a friend gave me his mt4g usb and never had a problem again. I think its a data miscommunication with the t959 stock usb. I lost any ODIN connection on all ports until I switched. Try it. Youll see.

Steeldroid question

Id love to post this in the development forum but not enuf posts so... I flashed steeldroid the other day and I love it, especialy with the GB launcher I added. Problem is, I can't get it to come out of charge only mode when hooking to the computer. It never gives me the option in the notification bar. Is there any other way to change it? Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help

Try a different cord, usb port, or computer. It sounds like it's not establishing a connection

I had a similar problem. My phone would not show it is charging past 95% but it would still increase the charge. I am waiting for the newest update before i dig into it myself.

I've got a similar issue on SD3 v3. I get the connect choices (PC, mass media, media sync, charge only) but i can't get mass media mode to connect on my windows 7 x64 machine. I get the bonk when the computer detects its connected, but don't see anything in device manager. Found a work around at least for the moment, put it in PC mode, and used the moto software, I can get into my internal card.
right, see i dont even get the connect options when i plug in. i am thinking it is something in the rom because it worked fine with the first cable i tried just before i flashed it. i know i could just restore to the nandroid backup of stock and do what i need to do but i dont wanna do that if i dont have to id rather make it work. is there a specific service or apk that controls the usb connect options that i can check?
Are you guys using the cord that came with the phone?
Yes all of my cables are motorola cables. The one i use for the computer is the cable that csme with the D3

Car mode keeps appearing after reboot!

Had problems flasging between roms.now when i reboot the car mode keeps commimg on. Fix? Alsi my pc wont recognize my phone and i cant install drivers again cus my phone wont read my sd card. How can i fix this?
Sent from my Vivid 4G using xda app-developers app
Your issues may be linked, it sounds like your phone is incorrectly assuming that you have plugged into a car dock and is auto-launching the car dock. That could mean there is an issue with your micro usb port, maybe something stuck in it or it could be misaligned. I had an issue with usb not recognizing on my computer and I ended up having to tweak the port on the phone slightly as it wasn't connecting properly. Does it charge properly?

Yes it charges normal but at work i blew compressed air in the port with no luck. Also when i reboot the phone it goes in to car mode. Another thing is whrn i type a msg it says predictions not available. Check sd card. Theres nt wromg with the card its a 16 gig and cost 80 bucks. I can hook it up to the pc and its fine. I wanna try somethimg but i dnt know how to manually install the drivers on the pc as my pc wont recognize my phone. Im not a noob but this has me stumped

[Q] Computer not recognizing device, how is this fixed?

I plugged my HTC One into my computer tonight in hope of transferring some songs across to it, but it comes up saying it is not recognized, i have tried uninstalling htc sync and the htc drivers, tried older versions of both, tried turning usb debugging on and off and also tried restoring my pc to an earlier point but none of this seems to work. Please if anyone can help i would be so grateful.
Check what it shows as in Device Manager. Also try downloading the driver installer from here: www.adbdriver.com
Managed to get it working, for some reason the usb cable will only charge the phone now, it wont transfer data. Thanks for the help though

This happened to 2 people I know and myself. My phone wouldn't charge when on, and would not connect to the computer at all. Not even charging. I tried new cables, different ports, but nothing worked. I sent it away for repair. I suspect it could be hardware failure somewhere as this is happening to a few people now. I would advise you to get it looked at. Still waiting on mine to be returned.
