Yeah, I thought you had used boot instead of flash.
You should actually use boot command, then do a backup (this will backup stock recovery also) for if you ever want to return to stock. If you've already flashed, it's too late for the stock recovery but you can still backup your Sense rom
If you want to root your stock rom just download the superuser.zip and flash it in recovery.
If you want to flash a custom rom just do it in recovery, it should already be rooted.

[Q] What to do after unlocking bootloader

After unlocking the bootloader, how would I flash ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager. I was looking at Cyanogenmod wiki and it says that i would need root access to do it the easy method. Does this mean I need to root it before flashing the recovery or what?
If you haven't unlocked the bootloader, I would use a tool to root like SuperOneClick or rageagainstthecage, then just install ROM Manager (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&feature=search_result) and have it install the recovery.
If you HAVE unlocked the bootloader already, you just need to find a recovery image (like clockworkmod - http://www.koushikdutta.com/2010/02/clockwork-recovery-image.html) and flash it in fastboot using the fastboot flash command.
So after flashing the recovery image, I could use the rom manager to update the recovery image if there is such a update correct?

If you flash a recovery image, the next step after that is installing a custom ROM. What I was stating was just that there is a way to flash a recovery image without unlocking the bootloader.
Of course, I completely get what you're saying. I already unlocked the bootloader, but after flashing the custom recovery image, would my phone be rooted with superuser and etc?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Superuser is an application. You gain root accesses to the filesystem by unlocking the bootloader.
So by unlocking the bootloader, I have root then?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Unlocking the bootloader allows you to flash unofficial (custom) images. You can flash recovery, system, boot images, etc. Unlocking the bootloader does NOT give you root access to the phone. You need to either root your stock image, or since your bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a pre-rooted custom ROM.
You can also flash a custom recovery via fastboot, and use that to install a custom ROM. Note, however, that the stock ROM will restore the stock recovery on re-boot, so you will need to go into recovery immediately after installing, then flash your custom ROM. Custom ROMs don't restore the custom recovery...
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
No. You just have a unlocked bootloader.
If you are looking at Cyans wiki I assume you want to install CM. So basically just get the recovery image you want to flash along with the ROM and the gapps. Put the ROM and gapps in the root of the sd card. Put the recovery image in the sdk folder with fastboot. I believe its still in the tools folder. Flash the recovery and reboot into recovery. If you boot the phone normally the stock ROM will replace the custom recovery you just flashed. So once your in the custom recovery you can install the CM ROM and gapps. Before you do that though do a nandroid back up. This way you can always just restore your system to its current state.
Oh! I get it! Thank you for the clarification. So how would I root the stock image?

sorry for beringing it up but I have question:
I unlocked bootloader but I do not want to install custom rom (at least yet) ... any guide or simple explanation how to install and have operating superuser app with root access on unlocked stock (GB) rom? (but to be able to OTA update in future?)
How about reading the Wiki, section "Root", guide for unlocked bootloader?

[Q] Root Nexus One 2.3.4 (stock)

Anyone know how to root Nexus One 2.3.4? I've done a few search but I can't find a full guide for that.
Thank you. Peace.
Since Gingerbreak doesn't work with 2.3.4(IIRC), what you can do is:
1.
- Downgrade to 2.3.3.
- Use gingerbreak to get root, flash custom recovery.
(If you downgraded to froyo, you can root it with z4root or SuperOneClick)
- Get ChainsDD's Superuser in flash-able .zip file. Copy it to SD card.
- Get 2.3.4 OTA update patch, copy it to SD card. If you don't want to lose custom recovery, open zip file with any archive utility, delete /recovery from zip. It will prevent stock recovery from restoring.
(If you downgraded to froyo and rooted, you need to get all OTA patches for upgrading to 2.3.3 and 2.3.4)
- Boot to recovery, flash (modified) OTA update patch. Don't reboot the device yet.
- Flash Superuser.
If you can use any application that requires root permission, you're done.
2. Unlock bootloader, push custom recovery and Superuser.
3. This requires Android Kitchen.
- Downgrade to 2.3.3 and root, flash custom recovery, same as 1.
- Get 2.3.4 system dump here.
- Use Android Kitchen to make rooted stock 2.3.4 package. When it's done, copy it to SD card.
- Backup all your data before proceed.
- Reboot to recovery, flash the package you made.
- Reboot and check. If nothing's wrong, you will have rooted stock with custom recovery.
Or when you're on 2.3.4, go to fastboot, flash a custom recovery, flash the superuser.zip

unlock bootloader will wipe all data on device.
Hi guys, thank you for the tips.
So the best way is tho unlock the bootloader? I have no issue to do that since my warranty is finished. Doesn't matter whether it wipes out my data. I have few questions:
1. After I unlocked my bootloader, can I update any upcoming firmware OTA in the future? Or I have to flash it via sdcards.
2. I've heard about rebooting will unroot the phone. Is it true?
3. How do I unlock my bootloader?
4. Is changing rom will reset the phone to factory setting? Will my phone get unrooted?
Sorry I'm quite a noob here. Peace! Appreciate any helps.
1. With unlocked bootloader you do what you want.
2. No.
3. Read the wiki or a another guide. Mainly get the needed software onto a computer and run fastboot oem unlock when the phone is in the bootloader.
4. Flashing/updating to any rom that does not have root included you will loose root. With unlocked bootloader that is no issue. Flash custom recovery then flash su = root.
Great! Thanks!! I will search for a guide and unlock my bootloader soon!
I just picked up a nexus one unlocked with 2.3.4 stock. I want to downgrade to 2.2.2 or 2.2.1, root it with super one click, then after I get root go to rom manager and get my recovery and then flash a cyanogenmod rom. Saying all that what is the easiest way to downgrade to 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 ???

Use passimg.zip. However, if it has really unlocked bootloader, all you have to do is use fastboot to flash custom recovery and any custom rom you want without doing so.

Use passimg.zip, though it depends on your main version saved in bootloader. If you can get FRG33 or FRG83 passimg.zip(though I wonder if you can find it...), use that, then (manually) update them until you reach 2.3.3.

I feel daft; I have unlocked the bootloader but cannot root, how ridiculous is that.. Am on 2.3.4 build GRJ22.
I'm trying to install "Root" (point V) on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636795 but cannot enter the recovery, getting "triangled" for ever & ever.

Not sure what the guide says, but:
Download and place this zip on your SD.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6408470/su-releases/su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
When connected in fastboot, type:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
fastboot boot name-of-recovery.img
Then flash the su zip - DONE!
Note:
name-of-recovery.img should be replaced with the actual name of the recovery image you have.
The recovery image needs to be located in the same folder on your PC as fastboot.
If your using mac or linux, fastboot may need to be substituted for fastboot-mac or fastboot-linux, etc.

I think the problem is in that the "recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1" isn't supporting build GRJ22 yet. Doing the above correctly (I think) but cannot boot into recovery.

SD isn't required to install recovery, but you will need it for the su zip.
What sort of message are you getting when you flash recovery?

[Q]ICS from a custom rom?

Now before I screw up my phone, I would like to know if it is possible to switch to ICS from a custom ROM. I just want to try it out, I'm currently on Bananacakes Holiraider. I have the US version of HTC Vivid if that helps. And if it is possible, how to do it.
Short answer yes you can. Many have done it successfully, including myself. You have to relock your bootloader to be able to install the RUU. Don't do it if you're on any other carrier but ATT.
Ah ok thanks, so just to be sure, and I'm aware I may sound like a pain the assholes, I have AT&T Vivid so I'm good, all I need to do is just relock my bootloader. Then download the RUU from a thread I saw earlier. Is it still possible to root on ICS?
Yes, I'm rooted with ICS. Since the rooted rom's have been removed from here you may have to get on Wildchilds site to get a rooted ICS rom. He has step by step instructions on how to flash it without issues. Essentially after the RUU install, you'll need to unlock the bootloader, flash recovery, flash boot.img, and flash the rom. You may be able to find PG's rom elsewhere on the internet but I don't know if everything he's done is offline. Hope this helps.

You can skip downloading the RUU if you want. If you're going with WC's ROM, he has a PH39IMG.zip packaged in it that contains the new HBoot. So basically you'll relock the bootloader, flash PH39IMG.zip in bootloader TWICE, unlock bootloader, fastboot flash boot.img and wcxrecovery.img, boot to recovery, flash ROM and you'll end up with WC's rooted ICS (more detailed instructions in his .zip)
Exactly what he said!
Thanks so much. Just a couple of questions (phobia of bricked phone). Flash the PH.zip file in fastboot? As in just boot to bootloader and it should automatically update? Then reboot to fastboot again? And for the boot image, use flash GUI? Same for recovery? Then flash Rom?

Not quite. Ph flashes automatically in bootloader..TWICE. then you have to get it off of your sd, boot to hboot again, but this time choose fastboot. Plug in USB. Unlock. Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG. fastboot flash recovery wcxrecovery.IMG. back to bootloader. Choose recovery. Flash Rom from recovery

Since we don't have S-Off, there a certain partitions that recovery can't write to (like the boot partition and recovery partition). Since this is the case, we have to flash custom recoveries and boot.img (which include the kernel) with fastboot. There is a GUI floating around that should flash boot.img as well, but it's not difficult to do with fastboot (I've never used the GUI so I can't speak first hand about it's effectiveness). In the ROM's .zip, you'll find boot.img. You need to extract this to the same location you have fastboot installed (in the sdk, it's in /platform-tools/). Once you have the boot.img in this directory, you need to navigate here in a command prompt. The easiest way to do this is to Shift+Click in this directory, and choose "Open command window here" Now you need to boot your phone to bootloader (power down, hold PWR+Vol- until hboot starts). Select Fastboot. Now plug your phone in and it will change to Fastboot USB. Enter the following command in the command prompt window:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
(Note: you can also flash a custom recovery here by issuing the following command, with the recovery.img in the fastboot directory
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img)
Press Enter. You will see it send, then write, then finish. Now on your phone select bootloader, then recovery. Now wipe data, cache, and Dalvik cache, then flash ROM

First questions:
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Do you have a custom recovery installed? (Safestrap? Clockworkmod?)
If your bootloader is LOCKED, unlock it using Myth Tools.
If your bootloader is UNLOCKED, and you do not have a custom recovery, download Clockworkmod and install it (boot your phone into fastboot mode then shift-click inside the folder you extracted the recovery.img to and click "Open command window here" and type the command posted in the thread).
If your bootloader is LOCKED or UNLOCKED and you have Safestrap installed, boot into SS and delete any ROM slots you have made (do not delete the stock slot), then uninstall the recovery through the app, then uninstall the app itself. Now follow the instructions above to install Clockworkmod.
If your bootloader is UNLOCKED and you have Clockworkmod, boot into CWM and follow the instructions on the ROM's XDA page.
Same problem
Same problem here. My MB886 is definitely unlocked, CWM and recovery are installed. Attempted to install Holoblur v.9 Performance from stock 4.1.1. Followed the directions including a format of /system but it hangs during boot every time. Restored stock rom via CWM, loaded latest CM 10.2 nightly build temporarily but ultimately hope to switch to Holoblur when I have more time to work on it.

[Q] Hboot 1.57 OS 5.11.401.10 reboot loop

Hi,
I just got a brand new HTC One 7 (WWE, CID E_11) after my last one died. Im trying to root it and install a custom recovery to install arhd or insertcoin. I used htc one toolkit for this. Everything seemed to work ok, but after booting the installed rom (ARHD or insertcoin) the phone reboots after i see the login screen. I somehow managed to reinstall my phone again yesterday, as it was a complete (soft) brick.
I used this to return to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759000
Now does anyone know why I get a reboot loop? Does anyone know if i installed this stock rom if I get the normal OTA updates again? And do i need to relock the bootloader for this? I would really like to install stock roms again but I'm a little anxious after yesterday. (I've installed custom roms since the old HD2/HTC desire, and also on my old HTC One M7, never had any problems, I think it has to do with the Hboot).
Hoping to hear from you guys,
best wishes,
Olaf

when using a sense custom rom you need to make sure you use twrp 2.6.3.3 recovery, do not use the toolkits, most of the time they are out of date and not updated, this would explain the bootloops, take the time to learn how to use adb and fastboot, you'll never look back.
nothing to do with the firmware and no need to flash it, if your firmware was knackered, you would have a hard brick.

First of all thanks for the quick response. I know how to use adb and fastboot (at least I think).
If i would (in this order) do the following, would that be correct?:
unlock using htdev
Flash twrp 2.6.3.3 using fastboot command: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (naming twrp 2.6.3.3.img = recovery.img)
reboot bootloader
Flash SuperSU.zip in TWRP
reboot twrp
flash custom rom (ARHD).
The thing is it isn't a normal bootloop (which normally would come with the HTC logo all the time)
It reboots when I try to setup the phone (in the setup menu). Restoring the phone with the link in the OP, ive recoverd my phone, but I would still love to use custom roms again.

It seems that insertcoin had a problem in it's installer:
http://insertcoin-roms.org/category/devices/one_m7/one_sense6/
the changelog says: Fixed SuperSU install (might solve the sudden reboot issue in SetupWizard)
It left me without any rom to install, so i had to sideload ARHD, which it didnt want to install via sideload... The next step I isntalled stock again, which I'm using right now.. but I miss xposed framework and other tweaks too much..
I'm gonna try to unlock it again this afternoon and install insertcoin again, but this time ill make a backup first. Does installing the recovery wipe anything?

I'm gonna try to unlock it again this afternoon and install insertcoin again, but this time ill make a backup first. Does installing the recovery wipe anything?

no it doesn't wipe anything, but you can use xposed and its tweaks on stock rom, you just need to root first, just install TWRP, enter recovery and again upon exit it will offer to root stock rom for you.
