So im new here and to rooting and using custom ROMS and i completely dont know what to do lol i saw a ROM with the 4.1.2 Android which i want to install on my XPERIA E15i because most apps now require 2.2 OS and up while i have 2.1 update 1 or something lol...
Is my phone compatible with the rom from [ROM] MiniCM10-4.1.0 [15/3/13]JB 4.1.2/CM10 for the Χ8 thread?
model number: e15i
firmware version: 2.1-update1
badeband version: m76xx-tsncjolym-53404015
kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
build number: 2.1.1.A.0.6
I havent rooted or did anything to my phone its like it was when i bought it xD
I saw that i need to root my phone to install the rom which i can do by following a tutorial on the internet...
My baseband and build number are ok with the rom but it says i need a kernel with a higher version than what i have here is where i get lost lol im a noob with this things
Then it says i need to unlock my bootloader... again dont know how to do it lol
So if i understand correct i need to:
1. root
2. update kernel?
3. unlock bootloader?
4. apply rom
In this order?
If anybody got free time can he post a step by step tutorial on how i can apply that rom on my phone pls

no need to search tbh. this is a sticky from general. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35344526
@op if you're not going to search, at least read the stickies.

Nope.
Root the phone first, get some kind of a root browser, install xRecovery or CWM recovery, then use either to install a ROM of your choice. After you install it you can start experimenting with other things (or you can do it before, but why stay at 2.1?).
As the others already implied it, there are a thousand topics already covering this subject. Just search around, put some time into it. It's not going to be easy the first time, but after you're done you'll see it could have been done in ten minutes. And you cannot screw up the phone in the process if that's what worries you (however you can kill it by unlocking bootloader).
EDIT: Many ROMs can run on stock kernels, but I think 4.0+ ROMs all require custom kernels? Someone can reprimand me on this if I'm wrong. If that's the case, 2.2 or 2.3 is what you get.
Thanks i guess i can use the 2.2 or 2.3 rom with stock k. then
To the rest who told me to use search are a bunch of ass***** who only replied here to increase their post count if you dont have anything to say then simply dont post here

Hey all, recently bought the Sprint HTC Hero CDMA, got it rooted, flashed, and using ModACO 2.2 Custom.
Before and After I installed the ROM
When I go to "settings" > "phone info" it says "firmware 1.5"
My question is, can I install a custom ROM that is higher than Android 1.5, or can I only use the custom ROMS under Android 1.5 category?

First of all, as long as your posting a general question you "NEED" to post it under "General" or "Q&A" category!!
Once you are rooted, you can install "any" ROM that's compatible with your device and carrier!!!
Can some admin please move this thread to appropriate section?
Sorry and Thanks
Sorry, wasn't sure if I should do general or here just because it has to do with ROMS.
But, thank you for answering my question
I bet you guys are great to party with. Do you call the cops on someone that's had a couple beers too? Let the mods do their job. They don't need you crying tattle-tale.
To answer the original question, yes you can use any ROM in this section whether it's 1.5 or 2.1. Just pick one that has the features you want and go for it. Be sure to nandroid.
Going to try Aloysius 2.1
It has Apps2SD already installed it so it says, I've still been trying to get that to work right.
You just gotta wipe phone, partition sd fat32+ext2+swap, than install the new update.zip ROM right?
Just follow the instructions the the thread of the ROM of your choice. You'll do fine.
Well said sub. Well said. But yes just follow directions and search the forum. You will learn a lot.

Yeah...Make sure to backup anything on your sdcard to your computer including your very 1st nandroid. Do not lose it. Which recovery do you have 1.6.2 or 1.5.2 or 1.2.3?
When creating the partitions, leave the defauts as they are unless you plan on installing 800+ apps. Most of the time the ROM will tell you what to do. Always nandroid and also copy your nandroid folder to your computer so you don't lose everything if you sd card fails
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A
I have 1.2.3
I got Aloysius up and running, still having trouble with the Apps2SD though.
Once I go into DConfig and save my settings it asks me to reboot. Not sure why, but phone won't start up with microSD card in it. It reads the card if I put it in after reboot though.

what is a rom
clockwork mod rom?
cynogen?
what does kernel do or work in the phone?
Clockwork Mod Recovery is a custom recovery for android devices that has more options than stock recovery has. If you don't know what recovery is, then it is a "menu" where you can flash all roms and backup your phone.

Yes rooting voids warranty, there are no risks of bricking if u follow the steps properly. But no guarantee
Btw how old are u? Pm me if u don't want it out in the open.

Hello guys,
This phone is giving me headaches. Once I rooted the phone is not allowing me to to flash CWM and nothing at all but continue stock. Im looking like a paranoid for the Pit file and the flash rom for me to go stock 100% but there is nothing in the forum to well organized I guess that I have missed looking for it or getting lucky to find it.
Im on 2.3.3 right now and the more I do factory reset the more the superuser stays installed. Pleas advise how to successfully flash my phone from scratch for me to install one of the custom ported roms we have in the forum.
I came from Samsung Vibrant with an experience of more then 1000 flashes. I think the bad thing about this phone is that we have to navigate over 7 different forums to get the info correctly and is very confusing.
Guys I also dont have Network Signal meaning I cant use the phone.
Thanks guys very much for any help

Ok, so I got my new n3 rooted using kingo, then updated to 4.4.2 using the one click file which softbricked me for some reason. I think it was because of the root and I didnt undo it. Or maybe the safestrap I installed and didnt undo before update. Either way, I just restarted my phone and did oneclick again and it worked like a charm.
Now I am here with 4.4.2 and I like it. Well, not as much as non touchwiz version... but I need s pen functions or I shouldnt even have a note! Basically I need to know if kingo will work on my 4.4.2 now. I am reluctant to try because I dont wanna soft brick and have no way back to anything. Ive done that before and it took me days to get back to a stock rom. So does anyone know if I can use kingo to get root again?
Next question... I want to install the custom keyboard that someone posted in the rom section. There are pretty colors and I want them! Does anyone know how to do this? It is in a zip file and apparently has an aroma installer. Do I just use safestrap and flash like normal? This locked bootloader is a pain in the ass.
Last question... the same guy whi posted the keyboard also has a custom theme in his files for the n3... I am not sure how to use that either. It again is a zip, but im not sure its supposed to be flashed and even which way to flash it if it is. Any insight would be appreciated, I need all the pretty stuff.
So those are my questions. I hope someone has the answers.
I hope at&t rots in hell for having this locked bootloader. I bought this phone second hand ao I could put it on straight talk. Only went with at&t so it would be easiest to assure I got 4g lte... shoulda done more research on the phone because this is bullsh*t. There is no reason to lock the bootloader like this. Free my phone at&t!

Can anyone answer any of my questions? I'm itching to do stuff to my n3 but I'm scared lol
Guess no one knows! I'm surprised
If you took the 4.4.2 leak, you also took another boot loader. Kingo will not root you. Nothing will right now. Unfortunately this is what happens when you don't read. Whatever is broken will remain broken until such time as an ota is provided from ATT or a root exploit is found. Neither of which will be anytime soon I think. Sorry for your luck.
Edit: in case you missed it in the designgears leak thread.... Don't try to downgrade yourself back to 4.3. It won't work and bad things will happen.
Cheers

The restore to MJ5 was recently confirmed. I flashed 4.4.2 as well but I read the thread before I did it. However, I did not lose root. I believe the OP was updated to include root in 4.4.2. I didn't have to do anything to regain root except download SU.
I hope this helps. You may try to download that, you may already have root!!!

LOL. What a rude individual you are.
Protip - When asking for assistance, good manners are a must. You can apply that both here and in your daily life.
1. See post #26 of this thread.
You will see that it successfully roots the firmware that you have. You will also see from the first post of the thread that the exploit was created by cubeundcube.
2. The tool I originally linked to contains the same exploit by cubeundcube, without the need to manually set the path to adb for it to work. I specifically linked the easier to use tool, as if you're unable to find these things by yourself with a Google search, you obviously need the simplest method possible.
So, to sum up, if I say it WILL work, you will try it? I said "should" because I own an international unbranded, unlocked Z (C6603), not a crippled carrier branded variant, so I cannot say 100% that it will work.
Try it if you want. If not, good luck with your unrooted phone.
In future, if I see any more requests for help from you, I'll be sure to stay clear, lest I do not meet your exacting standards.
Cheers.

If you have a 6606, then you are in North America, (Canada / US). Please check if your bootloader status is locked or not. You probably need to unlock your bootloader first from your wireless provider first.
And I agree with the others, you're rude, brash, you disregard advice and need to search/check b4 posting.......

@Cookie Ninja
The C6606 bootloader is permanently locked. There is no way to unlock it and neither Sony or T-Mobile will help.
Sony will blame T-Mobile for requesting that their branded variant has a non-unlockable bootloader and T-Mobile don't have the means to change it.
