What's the current latest official firmware for UK unbranded z?
There doesn't seem to be any threads active on it anymore.
Is the UK still officially on. 434?

It is odd, isn't it? I know people like to moan about late updates and whatever, but unlocked owners are now two iterations behind everyone else and I do wonder whether 02 have just forgotten to press the switch? I've had a look at the 02 support pages and there's quite a few people not tied to a network asking them to push the update because they won't get theirs until after that point - trouble is, there's a lot of confusion because everyone assumes that unlocked phones get their update first, and I'm still not sure I quite understand why that isn't the case here? Can anyone illuminate me?
My hope is that we skip 434 and go straight to 307?
if anything it will go straight to .407 which is 4.2.2

I hope you're right, but I'm preparing myself to get .434 when everyone else gets the big update. Any idea, incidentally, why unbranded are last to get updates, which seems counter-intuitive?
mine came with .434
its more a case the uk is last as Belgium unbranded devices have .307, it probably gets rolled out region by region unless bugs/issues are found, same with Samsung, it was nearly always a case of new roms were rolled out in germany first then it got rolled out elsewhere in the world

But UK networks (other than 02) are already on .307 and they've had to do testing, so surely unbranded should be released earlier, not later (as testing for bloatware compliance isn't required?)

Yes, it's just 02 who haven't released it over here and apparently that is somehow delaying the release to unbranded phones, although I'm not entirely sure why...

Well I've checked with there online support twice both times with the standard rollout reply but surely someone would have raised the issue with uk updates being behind with a higher management. So more likely design.
It's not the lack of updates that bothers me but the lack of an explanation or reason why the uk unbranded are left out

Faster and smoother animations apparently as well
Must importantly a better screen calibration, I've played with a z on .253 and the screen is so much better

thanks for the link dude. i preordered. im really hoping galaxy s4 is a let down so i get this phone
if gs4 turns out to be good i might go with that.
today i got a mail from gsmnation confirming that the c6602 is available for shipping, but after following the link to make the payment i see that the model in that cart is the c6502 (ZL) instead of the c6602, you could check it out following this link: http://www.gsmnation.com/sony-mobile-xperia-z-c6602-unlocked-black.html
anybody knows what happened? its the c6602 really available now?
Had the same issue with gsmnation, was signed up for preorder notice and got an email today saying it was ready for payment but the item in the cart is the C6502(ZL) and not C6602(Z). I sent then a message asking them to confirm whats going on so we shall see what happens. Been a struggle to find any place that even lists the C6602 as existing for preorder let alone purchase.

the c6602 model?? i think that it's not out yet
---------- Post added at 05:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 PM ----------
Ok, i got news from GSMNATION.. too bad for it, here is the response i received a few seconds ago:
Hello Gabriel,
The ZL is a regional variant of the Z. It is effectively the same phone. Similar to the Xperia T and TX introduced a few months ago. The differences are minor and cosmetic.
IF anything, on a head to head comparison the ZL 6502 is a later release and a superior model to the Z 6602.
You may view the comparison here.
That having been said the misnomer has already been adjusted to avoid confusion.
Regards,
...
So in resume there will be no C6602 available in gsmnation, the preoder of the phone was a "mistake" and they refer to the ZL model instead of the Z one... misleading advertising?
Ok.. im so sad now.

The ZL is not a regional variant. They are two different phones using the same SoC and similar specs. Differences are more than cosmetic much more so than the TX vs T. Have to wonder what they are taking about.

For some reason they are listing the 6602 as not supporting T-Mobiles 1700 band for 3g even though the tech sheet for the 6602 says it should support it.
REALLY leary on ordering one if it doesnt support 1700, if I wanted a Xperia Z that didnt support Tmobile 3g I could have avoided the wait and just gotten the 6603.
*edit* It appears that some of the listings indicate no 1700 support and others do not.

I'm more than positive that they didn't update their FAQ's. The specification page on the same posting has HSPA with 1700/1900 so it does support it even with the new farmed spectrum T-Mobile has been doing. I already ordered mine, so I'll let you know if you are curious

Hi, I haven't found a definitive answer to this so wondering if someone can help me?
Looking to buy this wonderful phone unbranded out of the box if possible, so I get the official updates when they are released rather than waiting for UK carriers...is the only way to get this to buy from Sony direct, or do shops like the Carphone Warehouse give unbranded ones out with contracts (like they did with my HTC One-X?)
Any advice welcome. Also, if I unbrand a phone, is that a one-shot process and it will appear as an unbranded phone for future updates etc?
Thanks for reading.

All phones from Carphone Warehouse are Unbranded out the box, although buying from Sony directly will get you an Unbranded handset, they're typically only ever branded if you buy direct from a Carrier E.G o2, Vodafone, 3 e.ct.
Hope this helps!
Read some of the threads on here and you will soon see that those of us going unbranded UK (I got mine from Amazon) have actually received the opposite treatment.
UK generic is now two updates behind and seemingly one of the last to receive updates, I can only assume Sony is bending over to the carriers and screwing over those who have actually paid the full amount up front
And to others reading no I don't want to flash a different regions Rom and don't see why we should.

Yes, you can just flash whatever firmware customization you like and it will stay like that. For example, if you flash 'Generic DE' firmware, you will get all future updates together with Germany.
You can change your customization at any time or return to your original customization by just flashing the appropriate FTF file, or by following this guide if you are rooted:
[GUIDE] Download ANY firmware customization with SUS and create an FTF with Flashtool
So in fact it doesn't matter where you buy your phone. Just buy it where it's the cheapest and then change your firmware customization to whatever you want

Why? To get faster updates. It's a world phone, so you can use it in all regions, no matter the firmware customization.
You could also flash the 'Vodafone UK' firmware, they already have 10.1.1.A.1.307.
If you don't mind waiting a long time to get new software, then you can keep your 'Generic UK' version

I don't think so, but you can just root your phone temporary (which is very fast and easy) and then follow the guide to change your customization number. After flashing with Sony Update Service or Flashtool, the root will be gone. If you would do so, then please be so kind to create an FTF and share it on xda
Wow, many thanks for your helpful replies. Coming from the world of HTC where we were supplied with prompt updates to unbranded handsets first with the carriers having to wait, this is a surprise that the opposite seems to happen here.
Good to hear that you can seemingly unbrand and then forget about it- and it looks easy to flash firmware etc, seems a lot less restrictive then I am used to, have people found this?
I will find a phone at the right price and just buy then. As an aside, what kind of branding/bloatware is seen on the carrier versions of the software? Is it heavy or quite light?
Thanks again.
The Xperia SP my mum recently got from T-Mobile was pretty minimal in terms of branding/bloatware.
In fact I could not see any branding, just a couple of pre-loaded apps. I think because they use the same customisation for EE, Orange and T-Mobile now, so they can't actually brand it.
Might be different for other handsets, but it is running basically the same software as the Z.
So I couldn't wait for Handtec or Clove to get stock of the Z3C and ordered one from Kappsa. The phone arrived on Friday, however it appears to have a strange software version installed; APAC-LTE_23.0.A.2.93. After a bit of research, it would appear this is the Asia-Pacific release of 4.4.4. I'd really like to install the European version or GLOBAL-LTE_23.0.A.2.93.
When I looked into doing this, I read about the camera quality being affected when shooting in low light if you unlock the bootloader. Is this still the case if I simply install the stock version?
Or, is there a way to change the software version without rooting/flashing?! New to this, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS. Have attached a screengrab.

Only difference between the two devices is the 4g/lte bands being used. Imo you should have no problems receiving UK firmware even tho the phone is 'meant' to be used in like Asia/Australia.

Turns out that my phone will work on 2.6GHz UK 4G, but not 800Mhz UK 4G, as the receiver can only use 850. Not an issue if you're on EE or Vodafone, but if a problem if you're on Three. Going to try and return it...

Because Sammy OS is heavily modded to their linking so it will take time for them to get it all up and running and then testing and then some more testing.

carriers release updates to use on THEIR network; it doesnt matter one bit who you bought the phone from..
thats common knowledge in the cellular world.. Google is the only sometimes "exception", but if their phones are sold by any carrier, i.e. when t mobile sold the nexus 6, it was T Mobile who released/approved updates, NOT Google

it does matter.
in Europe, if you don't get your phone through a carrier you get the F model.
while other variants get their updates through the carrier, F models always get their updates directly from Samsung.
until the note 8 the unbranded models(like the F models) where always first to get updates, because no carrier approval is needed.
edit: correction.
there are carrier specific F models, the carrier branding is in the csc in those cases.
any phone bought from Samsung directly or a store that isn't tied to a carrier will always have an "unbranded" csc in Europe.

Hello everyone ?
Does anyone know of a way to get Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE loaded onto an unlocked, stock, non-rooted, H9436 ?.
PS: I know as a fact that my carrier supports both of them ?
Thank You
Only way is to use Xperifirm to download your regions firmware and flash it.
I know on my previous XZP I had a G8142 dual sim (Hong Kong) and flashed it a G8141 Single Sim (Australia) Firmware without any issues.
Unfortunately Sony Mobile has pulled out of Australia and there no Australian firmware for the XZ3. So I'll never get VoLTE on this phone now.

XZP battery life became one of the best phones I've had after the last Oreo update. Since Pie it hasn't improved much. I would have the phone synced to my android watch all day. By the time i hit bed, i'd have 35% battery life left.
My current XZ3, would be dead by the time i get home from work, yet its supposed to have a bigger batter 3330mah vs 3230mah.
You dont have to use your specific carriers, just your country. Using the Generic Australian ROM I got VoLTE and VoWiFi working on Vodafone AU network.
At this current time no firmware is able to make VoLTE work on XZ3. Simply cause Sony Sucks now.
Might even sell this phone off or return it, as I've only had it a week.

Yeah battery life on this phone is just horrible
My mom has the XZP but she's stuck on Oreo cause Sony mobile abandoned the region, I'm planning on flashing a different region's firmware on my next trip home.
I thought of my carrier's firmware cause in France (my profile still says Lebanon cause I didn't bother changing, I moved to France a couple of months ago) the only unlocked version they sell is the dual sim one, the one sold by operators is the single sim one but they install their own firmware, and also because on their support website that mentioned that the xz3 that they sell is compatible with VoWiFi and VoLTE.
If you return it what would you get?

Well I haven't returned it, cause I still don't have my XZP back from warranty repairs. Appears Sony is abandoning alot of regions. Though they are still releasing updates for those phones which is a good thing.
I love Sony Xperia phones, by far the best quality handsets in terms of workmanship, etc. But how they go about their software implementations has a lot to desire.
Hoping one day Sony deploys Carrier integrations like alot of the smaller manufacturers i.e Asus, Huawei, Oppo and Nokia, who are able to enable VoLTE without any specific region firmware.

Yeah Xperia phone are really great, they have a mix of build quality and balance between software features and performance that just isn't available with other phones in the Android world (not talking about iPhones cause iOS is just BAD). I remember when I switched from my Z1 to a note 5, I was so disappointed. Wasn't sure if I wanted to get the Z5 or the note 5, so I decided to see why people praise Sammy, what a mistake ??*.
Going back to the main subject of this thread ?
I hadn't flashed my phone yet cause I had been pretty busy with school and wasn't sure if I should flash my carrier's firmware or not. So last week I got an update. A couple of hours later I went into the settings to tinker with stamina mode. And there I see it. A big banner on the top telling me to activate Wi-Fi Calling. So of course I did but couldn't test it directly cause I was out and about. When I got home (I have really bad reception in my dorm room, when people call me they go directly to voicemail cause I don't have any reception), I tried to see figure it out, but apparently it's just a placebo, it doesn't actually do anything ?
