Good question. I wondered this, so I compared a "zoe" 1 of 20 and a normal shot and I couldn't tell the difference.

is there a way to increase the camera 2xzoom to e.g. 4xzoom?
maybe in the registry, like adding new shot-modes?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the zoom is digital (ie. not optical). So there's really no difference in taking a 2x-zoomed pic versus a 1x-zoomed pic magnified 200%. So, 4x-zoomed pic would just be a 1x-zoomed pic magnified 400%.
Bring your digital cam if you really want serious pics.

Yes that is right. In fact if you want digital zoom anyways, take photos without it and magnify them on the PC. The quality most likely will be better, especially if you use special programs like PhotoZoom.
And the last part is most important. Sensors and lenses of phones' cameras are crap compared to any real (serious) compact camera.
Hey guys, on gsmarena i read and saw the video about the camera burst mode taking 999 pictures in 68 seconds at 9 megapixels.
I understand that photo quality is not directly related to its resolution.
So i just want to ask, will the 9MP photos be of the same quality as the 13MP photos? Thanks.

9MP with the same senson will be just slightly less detailed than 13MP. Not a huge difference though

So i wouldn't notice a difference unless i closely inspected it?

It's the amount of pixels used to display the photo - its resolution. You would only notice a difference when zooming into the picture.
However I agree that pixel count is the least important factor. My SE W800 with 2MP shot better photos than any phone I had afterwards. If ZX' photos have similar color properties it will be great.

Yes. 9MP photo displayed as let's say 1280*720 will look exactly the same as 13MP photo zommed out to the same resolution. You will notice any differences only if you analyze them on their native resolution or big zoom.
Of course there will be differences - but you won't be able to notice them, especially when viewing your photos "normally".
So...the STOCK camera image quality is a great disappointment.
usually the end result is a grainy not so sharp and little detail captured. Pictures turn up with a lot of NOISE in them.
QUESTION: Does any one know of a alternative to getting better quality out of the sensor in the HTC One?
Maybe another APK, or a MOD or just anything else in general to get better quality?
When I take a picture outside in daylight the image size varies from 800Kb to 1.8 MB. Just by looking at the size of the file I can tell its crappy quality. My Nexus 4 was taking pictures of 2.3 - 3.4MB and it captured a great amount of detail.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Your first sentence alone is enough to discredit your argument. Read some reviews from experts- I doubt you'll find any that describe the camera as "crappy".
Plus, you're comparing the file sizes of a 4mp camera and an 8mp camera, what do you expect?

Even though it's "only" 4 megapixels, the camera in my One is better in every way than the 8 megapixel shooters in my Galaxy S 3 and Optimus G.
I don't use my camera phone to create photographic masterpieces, but it does the job I need it to do.

You must realize, that the sensor is not a Full Frame one, so if you use high ISO sensitivity, it produces noise. Even my D7000 produces such noise when the ISO is cranked up in low light.
When I use zoom I find that the photo picture quality is quite grainy, and the photo ends up looking more like a low res video still, does anyone know is this the norm or am I doing something wrong?
I am running Viperone.

It's a no brainer, we got a 4 megapixel camera, useful only for wide angle shots

Don'y forget its a digital zoom and not optical.
Optical zoom = the real thing, no quality loss
Digital zoom = enlarges the pixels and reduces the image resolution and the image quality.
IMO don't use the zoom of you want ''good'' quality photo
