Since there is no SD-Card option with the HTC One I noticed there are very little partitioning options in TWRP. Are there any other options available or features I'm missing. I'm asking this because I was messing around with s-off stuff and ended up having to do a factory reset with the ruu. After that I copied over my backup that I made before hand with TWRP. After unlocking, rooting and flashing TWRP again, I did a restore and noticed that it didn't backup any of my data (pics, music, etc). In the past, when I had the HTC EVO 3D it would back up my SD card (good thing I was using dropbox this time). So again am I missing any features or are there any other recovery options available for the Sprint HTC One
All of the devices Ive ever used twrp on do not backup media. Just system and data. Use superwipe to avoid wiping your media

Hey guys.. I have flashed a few roms to my Raider now, but my internal SD is a mess - lots of old left-over install folders, leftover app bits..etc. When I'm in CWM Recovery, I found an option to format the internal SD card. My question is this: What will that wipe? Everything?? Does it wipe out my CWM and the installed ROM as well?? I'm scared to try it, bc I don't want to brick my phone. I'm not real familiar with pushing files to the SD card thru ADB (actually I just know its possible, no idea what the commands are) so I don't want to have to go that route, but I'd REALLY like to wipe my internal storage and clean it up.
Ideas?
I recommend going into your settings when your booted into android. So long as you have no apps installed to the I.internal sd card you are safe to format.

i would not use the CWM option to do that, it is a port and not fully supported and i know on some other devices (not sure about vivid) but that would soft brick the device
I always use the windows format and change the allocation size while I'm at it. Just backup what you need and copy it over when you are done. Since there are a lot of leftover bits I'd recommend not doing a quick format. The method in which you format probably doesn't matter but I like working from the computer when it comes to this stuff.

And formatting the *internal* storage from USB storage mode in Windows won't clear out my HoliRaider ROM? I just don't wanna brick my phone its running awesome now thanks to bananacakes.

No, the rom is installed on its own partition. I've formatted with no issues after I rooted and debloated my phone

So since sdcard is now part of /data, when I make a NAND backup the size is almost 4GB, since I have a bunch of music stored locally from Google Music. Is there anyway to get TWRP to ignore the sdcard directory when backing up (since it doesn't get wiped anyway) so that each backup I make isn't ginormous? I'm already down to only 15GB left on this phone. I know I could have it just not backup the data partition, but then restoring from a backup would only restore the OS and not the apps and configuration I previously had (which is kinda the whole point of a backup, since otherwise I could just fresh install a new ROM).
cant you just copy them over to your computer? and keep one on the phone for safety?
Just created a nandroid backup with CWM touch, mine came out as 2.1GB, not sure why your backup is so large
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Mine are usually around 1.5GB. But I don't keep music and videos on mine.

Since the /sdcard data is sharing with the same partition as the /data doing a nandroid backup would depend on how much space is consumed by your sdcard.
So I guess nothing I can do, then? Thanks anyway.
Does this mean a Nandroid backup of the One would backup photos and media too?

Yes!
Problem is that Google Music cache is in /data/data folder, so Twrp backs it up. Solution is to create a folder on /sdcard and symlink the Google Music cache folder to it. Twrp won't back it up because it doesn't follow symlinks nor does it backup /sdcard. There are several posts on the subject, just search.

I don't believe it does, I don't think Nandroid would perform backup functions differently on different devices but coming from the SGN I - I can tell you that all Nandroid backups are basically settings and OS files as well as Apps / App Data. For the most part, when you do a Wipe / Format on your phone, it is only removing the OS files and installed Apps. It does not backup your photos / videos as it never really removes that data to begin with and so you should see your stuff there even after installing a fresh copy of the ROM. If you go into advanced functions in CWM and format your card, then you will wipe the entire device off.
IIRC CWM started taking nandroid backups very differently from a few versions ago, there's now a "blobs" folder in the backup folder and that is the one that grows exponentially in size. I believe that was done to only make incremental backups easy but the downsize is grows massive.
I cannot give you a guaranteed answer if deleting the blobs folder is safe or not but I have deleted it in the past and eventually resorted to just keeping the most recent backup by deleting all backups / blobs and then doing a fresh backup.
click compression and mines 1 gig
A nandroid backup also backs up the data directories and your downloaded Goggle Music songs are in that data directory. Therefore whenever your do a nandroid backup, the songs will be backed up as well, increasing your final size...

The recovery may very well perform nandroids differently on "data/media" services such as the htc one. Check out http://teamw.in/DataMedia

is there an app that lets you browse nandroid contents so you can confirm what has been backed up?

Ok just to answer my own question.
I just took a nandroid backup of One of my phones and restored it to my other one.
Music and Gallary did not come across.
If anyone else wants me to verify anything I'm more than happy to as I have both phones in front of me and all my settings and profiles are there, just no media.
Hi guys! I'm planning on installing a new ROM which I think would require wiping cache and restoring to factory settings. My question is would it also erase the data on my nexus 7 like videos, songs, Android day files for games etc?
Sorry stupid question but I was used to my phone which has external sd which makes sure all those files are kept even after doing factory reset.
Thanks you!

I'm not sure how CWM handles such things, but in TWRP, there is an option to FORMAT DATA... which wipes everything on the emulated SD Card... including the ROM .zip you're about to flash!.
So if you avoid that option and just SWIPE TO FACTORY RESET you should be okay.
Still, having said that, it's better to be safe than sorry... so I would recommend performing a Nandroid backup first - and Titanium backups of your most important apps.
Rgrds,
Ged.
It's always good to have backups anyways. If you have any files on your Nexus just transfer them to your computer (or cloud storage).

Okay I'm also on TWRP, meaning to say if I got to recovery and then straight to swipe to factory reset, my nexus will be on factory state but with all the movies, songs, android data still on storage?

Yep... that's pretty much it.
This, from a TWRP message output whilst performing a FACTORY RESET...
...wiping data without wiping /data/media...
If that weren't the case, and if it deleted all your user content, your Nandroid backups and the ROM .zip you intend to flash would be gone as well. So all that stuff (pics, videos, music etc.) is preserved.
Your user installed apps (from Playstore) will be lost though... so make a backup of them with Titanium.
Rgrds,
Ged.
I want to completely wipe everything and start over.

You probably went from a 4.1 ROM to a 4.2+.
The file structure changed. Using a root enabled file explorer check "leftovers" in /data/media
all your files in 4.2+ are in /data/media/0

Hi
Like most of you who unlocked their bootloader and regularly install/test custom ROMs, there is the constant problem of accumulating debris or remnant files/folders which clutter the internal memory of the phone with time and at some point, it is quite difficult to figure out which folder or file is safe to delete and which ones can be removed once their associated custom ROM has been erased and replaced with a different ROM. I usually use a different ROM for about a week and through constant use, i tend to gather up data (custom wallpapers, screenshots, ringtones, etc) in folders created in different places by the different ROMs.
So, my question is, what do you use to clean your HTC One's SD card? I have the international version, so no carrier bloatware. Can anyone post a list of directories and files from the international stock Sense 5.0 ROM? Is there any other way of resetting the SD Card to its stock condition, like just before i flashed my first custom ROM? How about i simply format the phone's internal memory when it's connected via USB (then copy and flash the latest stock ROM)?
And another question which caters to flashing addicts (i'm getting there), how to quickly backup and restore contacts, phone numbers, addresses and everything in the sms messages (inbox, sent, etc). These are basically the only things i really care about when changing ROMs. Backing up apps and games are pretty much meaningless when using different ROMs.

Just a quick note from me: though I have TiBu (full), I recommend
- SMS Backup & Restore
- Call Logs Backup & Restore
for SMS & Call logs, they restore better IMHO than TiBu. They even restore whether the SMS was read or not, etc.
I use TiBu mostly for apps+data, and I sync my contacts from scratch.
Also, I first restore SMS and call logs, before syncing contacts so that the caller id gets matched correctly. the other way around (sync contacts then restore SMS & call logs, doesnt match the caller correctly)
Install TWRP
Full Wipe/Factory Reset
Wipe both caches and data
Format SD card
Adb push rom.zip and flash it.
Or to go the extra mile, flash a RUU and start from scratch.
