I have a stock (no root, no ROM) Verizon JB Bionic. Little over a week ago my phone suddenly lost service. No phone, no internet. I was able to get a wifi connection though. A day or so later it started bootlooping every 3 minutes or so. Wiped the cache, then did a factory reset. After that, it booted to the set up screen, but can't get through it without rebooting. Tried to reflash stock ROM, but screwed up and flashed GB and not JB, so then it got stuck in fastboot. Tried to flash JB, and battery died. Borrowed a charger today and was able to flash JB (removing the oem fastboot lines). So now the phone will boot back the setup screen, but still bootloops and still no signal.
Obvious answers:
No, it's not under warranty
No, I don't have insurance
No, my contract is not up.
I have not tried swapping SIM cards, but not sure that would be it anyway. I'd expect an error if the sim was bad.
Any other options? Am I likely looking at a hardware failure?
Same thing happen to me. Phone keep boot looping and baseband is unknown.I wonder if Verizon sent a over the air kill switch for the phone

I guess I don't know. It's SJUG6100AD 40/11 if that helps.
I thought I may have been onto something when I was able to bypass the startup, but it still looped.
That's really a strange issue...
Tried almost everything but no luck...
Tried full fxz to ics.. to jb... but
It's lying around as paper weight...

So, it seems my Bionic has serious issues connecting to LTE. When I first got it, I got 4G all the time, without issue. Then after about a week, it started only connecting to 3G even though I had LTE enabled and I know it is in my area. Around the same time I started having battery issues where it would drain in about half a day when mostly idle. At this point I had done very little to the phone, hadn't rooted, and only installed a handful of apps. Well, when unleashed 1.3 came out, I decided to root and flash that to see if it would fix my issues. On first bootup, I only had 3G still, so I rebooted, and finally, I had 4G LTE back! Well, I stupidly decided to install LTE Switch and turn off 4G when I wasn't using it. The problem is, now when I turn LTE back on, it only connects to 3G again. Hasn't connected to 4G again since that first day when 1.3 was released. Rooting and calibrating my battery has fixed the battery issue for the most part, but I still feel like my battery doesn't last as long as it used to or as long as others on the forum claim. I am unsure if I got a lemon (I didn't buy on release day but a little less than a week after), especially because I have had ZERO random reboots or other problems. Phone runs buttery smooth except for the 3G only and subpar battery life... Any ideas? Anyone have the stock modems that I can flash to see if that fixes things?

Did a full restore of the Stock FXZ and LTE is working again. Just installed Unleashed 1.3 and still getting 4G. Hopefully it stays that way. Thanks mistawolfe.
lte is like the best out, right?
Having the same issues at times. rebooting fixes it. But it is annoying.

Next time it happens, open your dialer, dial *#*#INFO#*#* and select phone info, scroll down, and click turn radio off, then click it again to turn it back on. It doesn't solve the problem, but might save you a reboot or reflash.
Careful what you mess with in that menu, I'm not sure what everything does.
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.
I just picked up my vivid on tuesday. I have been having issues ever since I got it with being able to successfully send texts. They just hang forever in the thread with a "pending" status.
Originally, i was worried this was a rom issue. I've tried every ROM.... Same issue with every single one. I relocked bootloader and went back to stock, and had some luck, but only about 18 hours before I started experiencing issues again.
Has anyone else experienced this with their vivid? Rooted, or otherwise. I'm about to take this thing back and go back to my Inspire. This is getting real old, real quick.
Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I have not experienced it, it sounds like it may be an APN issue though, did you experience the same issue with your stock rom?
Yes I see this every time I flash a new Rom , just when I restore the apn setting it starts to work again.

yep. i've tried every possible apn setting. even older ones that are only for hspda+. nothing works. i can't say i was on the stock rom long enough to text, but i did relock the bootloader, and reapply the ship rom for att, and experienced the same issue.
i'm going today to get a replacement device. hopefully it's just a shoddy one.
goodbye vivid.
well, after less than a week, and two vivids....i'm done with this device. both of them refuse to send texts after approximately 10-12 hours. as much as i hate to leave the htc brand [and despise the blue tone of samsung devices], i have to go to the skyrocket due to it's comparable hardware.
i'm pissed....i was super excited about the vivid, but it has been a severely disappointing, aggravating experience overall.
I had an issue twice before, one was a problem with the sim and the other was the mistake of putting my sim in an iPhone where it would only send as an imessage

Ive been having the same issue since I got the phone in November.
The only way I can get messages to send (sometimes) is to restart the phone, then they send in bulk.
I have done the following:
-factory reset
-tried stock/custom rom (HoliRaider, RumRaider)
-had the phone replaced (2x because Rogers is rather stupid)
-tried the SIM in another phone (X10) and it works 100%
-tried SIM in a 'floor model' Raider at the Rogers store, worked (only had the SIM in for 10 mins)
-factory reset (again)
-tried on all the variants of network (Auto, WCDMA, GSM) no change
I have asked a few times if trying a new SIM would be worth it, tech keeps saying no...
Needless to say I have my Raider on Kijiji trying to sell/trade for a SGSII.
Love HTC but i need to be able to send SMS.
So it sounds like the sim is the issue if you used a floor model sim and it was fine , so demand a new one?

Guys by any chance you have phonelocator pro install on your phone? If so that's the problem there. As soon as send a text to locate the phone my wife's messages stops sending until you restart the phone I contacted the dev with no help from him.
Edit - BTW The problem could be cause by any apps that intercept sms like any Messaging replacement app ect but I'm not %100 sure is anyone of those apps but Phonelocator pro from the market.

this started happeningto me because i had WMD (whers my droid) on my phone, as soon i removed it and delete the pending texts and rebooted, text started to work again.
I tested it again a few days after by re-installing WMD and same results.
So if you happen to have any text based GPS locators it might be the issue.
A different sim worked for me too because the number changed and the text failed to send. it was WMD and i asked the dev and he was no help and said uninstall my program i can't do anything for you.
I've been using a defective Bionic since launch now. The last OTA update completely destroyed my data connection, to the point of it becoming so unreliable that I need a new one. After talking to Tier 2 Tech Support, they are sending a Bionic and want mine back. It is rooted and has safestrap with Eclipse 3.0 on the safe side. How can I be sure that Verizon will not know that I rooted it?
Only thing you can do is to reflash .902/.905. A hard reset isn't going to wipe the rom, just your user data.

Even if I didn't flash ICS? This will remove root and my entire safestrap system?
I just sent one back that was rooted and on ICS. I didn't bother to wipe anything before sending back. I just pulled my cards and put it in the box.
Though i did tell Verizon that i flashed it i don't remember mentioning root. Does anyone really think they would pursue money on a phone with known data failure units? My problem was that i couldn't get/keep 4G.

If it was any carrier other than big red, they probably couldnt care less, but big red is evil and they are all about money! If there is a way for them to charge you for something, they will!
But like previous poster said he sent his back, if they havent said anything by now, then they wont. They probably didnt even check, all they are going to do is reflash .905 on it, then remarket it as a refurb.

Uninstall safe strap and use stock recovery to flash an update zip of whatever ota you told them messed up your data. You need to make sure you're in whatever version you told them because they do record notes for every open case. It seems to me that your phone is working well enough for you to use an unroot method that is posted here on xda

Anyone had any luck with the data signal actually being better on the "new" device? I'm in the same boat, sending my rooted, but still stock Bionic back tomorrow, but not sure if exchanging one unit for another with the same hardware/firmware will really make a difference??
There were some earlier posts on AC about folks getting RAZRs in exchange for their BIONIC's.

In my area I don't get 4G. Only 3G and the signal is pretty bad near my work which is in the sticks. However when I travel to a 4G area I have no issues with my signal. Despite every phone using the same hardware/firmware there could be issues with the hardware itself that might be bad. Another phone may or may not fix the issue. It's almost like saying similar cars are going to perform the same. It will vary from batch to batch. There's no telling if you're not getting a phone with the same bad radio hardware or maybe it's not your phone and the actual signal coming from the tower. Verizon/Motorola isn't going to fess up to anything and unfortunately we're their pawns. It's always the blaming game for them. The RAZR and Bionic both share the same hardware but different firmwares. However the RAZR uses a processor that can handle the 1.2ghz speeds while the Bionic may or may not reach those speeds. The processor in the RAZR are stress tested to 1.2ghz while the ones in the Bionic were only tested @ 1ghz. I dunno how the radio hardwares are tested but some may be able to handle certain frequencies and some not. I have no clue about the deviances in the radio frequencies but is it possible my towers are different from your towers? I dunno that's not my area of expertise.
Dont worry about it being rooted i sent back 2 stratospheres with root and a custom boot screen and 2 droid 4 with the leak ics with root i really dont think they look at them

I apologize if there is already a thread on this, but I have not found an actual solution to it yet.
My Captivate's screen is on sleep mode, and maybe 20 ish minutes later, when I press the unlock button, I find that the phone is off and I have to turn it on again. This happens every 20 minutes, and the only way for me to keep it on is to frequently unlock the phone to verify that it is still on.
This is not a very practical method of doing things though, because the phone turns off in while I'm sleeping and I'm not always able to check my phone every 20 minutes.
My firmware version is 2.3.3 and I'm running Gingerbread OS. It's a refurbished phone I received from Rogers a week ago, and I really don't want to factory reset or anything like that as I have very important information/app data on my phone I don't want to have wiped.
I've heard of flashing a custom rom to fix the problem but the thread i read was from 2011. Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks.
If you received it as a refurbished from Rogers then I would go back to them and get them to send you a new one. There was a batch of Captivates that had this issue and a new motherboard was the only true fix.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Is that really the only way to fix the problem? Aren't there any custom roms that might fix the problem?
They might help the issue but they will not fix it. It is a hardware defect. I had to send one back to At&t for the same issue.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Dude send the phone back to Rogers. Call them or go to the Rogers Plus store and explain them the problem. Tell them that you did factory reset and you're still getting the problem.

I have an HTC ONE m7 that is about a year old and is rooted and running omni rom. It has been rooted for about 6 months and I had been running cyanogonmod and everything was running fine until last week when I got the dreaded sim card error. a restart of the phone did the trick. 2 days later it happened again and this time a restart did not work and my phone was out of commission for about 4 hours as I tried everything to fix it (including a full wipe of cyanogen and a fresh install with omni rom) with no success. Then one random time I restarted it popped back up and everything was fine. Now over the last few days it keeps giving me the sim error and only goes away after random amounts of time and restarts. If the error does go away and I have service. I get 4g LTE for about 10 minutes before I lose the ability to make any calls/texts or have any data connectivity. I have tried the scotch tape trick with no success as well as changing my APN. I'm sadly starting to think this may be a hardware issue.
Any thoughts??
Sounds like it. If it's still under warranty I'd be returning it to stock and sending it for repair
