Few basic queries!!! Need Answers.

Hey all. First of all i would like to congratulate all the members who own this ultimate device.. i am loving this phone upto now. But sometimes an idea just stucks on my mind to root this phone also as i did with my samsung galaxy note 2. But i am new to HTC and dunn know basics about this phone. I hv searched alot of topics and spend my time in understanding the rooting procedure. Wht i understood is i have to unlock my bootloader and turn s-off. After that i can flash cwm or twrp and start using custom roms
Now what i want to know is if i unlock my bootloader using htcdev.com then would this void tbe warranty fully?
Can i relock the bootloader and make it as it is now.
In samsung we can do this by using traingle away application but im not aware of htc as this is my first device..

Unlocking your bootloader through HTCDEV will always carry the risk of HTC rejecting your warranty claim. Relocking the bootloader will change the lock status to RE-LOCKED instead of LOCKED (like stock).
With S-Off, you can bypass HTCDEV and unlock the bootloader. You can also change the status to LOCKED. Sequence of events would then be S-Off --> Unlock bootloader --> Flash a custom recovery --> Nandroid your stock ROM just in case --> Do whatever you want

firstly welcome to HTC group.
the process of samsung and htc is different and rooting htc is a bit tough ( do not worry)
Unlocking bootloader from htcdev voids warranty completely
after unlocking booloader your bootloader says UNLOCKED and this is how HTC comes to know weather we have played with the phone or not
and after unlocking bootloader you can flash custom roms you do not have to be S-OFF.
now S-OFF means security off it gives us full access to the system which we do not achieve by unlocking bootloader.
so basically doing S-OFF you get access to all the system files of the phone including radio and all other stuff
and if you successfully achieve S-OFF( not a tough job) then you can get your warranty back by making our bootloader say LOCKED instead of UNLOCKED or RELOCKED
Thats it by this way you can have your warranty back

yes you can relock. but with s-off it will say locked instead of relocked

greetings,
if you do S-OFF first then your bootloader will say LOCKED
and you will have to patch the bootloader and then you can access the fastboot commands to flash recovery and install custom ROM.
and after S-OFF and unlocking bootloader you can make it LOCKED again

HTC generally don't mind if you unlock, I had to send mine back to the official HTC repair centre in England after a bad flash and I got a brand new SIM free phone back., no questions asked.

That's interesting, I have just sent my HTC one to HTC repair centre in England too after a bad flash, I was stuck in constant bootloop on start up screen, bootloader and recovery.
How long did it take from sending to receiving back.

Took a month but that's only because I stupidly sent it via the shop where I bought it who then sent it to their repairs centre in Dublin who eventually decided they couldn't fix it and then sent it to HTC in England so the whole process took a month, moral of the story is, if you bork your phone assuming it's under warranty send it to HTC direct, much quicker.

Basically i flashed a boot animation and i stupidly never had a nandroid backup so got constant boootloops, i foolishly not just done a factory reset but formatted system basically I panicked , wiped absolutely everything, spend days trying to sideload a ROM via command prompts but no matter what I done i couldn't get it sorted so sent it off, now I'm ultra careful and always ensure I have a nandroid backup.

Can I return to T-Mobile (US) stock everything?

Hey Guys,
So I am need of a bit of help and guidance. I currently have a HTC One 32Gb Silver from T-Mobile (US). I need to return my phone for warranty exchange but so far I have put several different roms, TWRP recovery, perm root, and obv unlocked bootloader. I need to return everything to how it was out of the box. I made a backup of my stock rom way back in May after I unlocked the bootloader. I know generally people would use an RUU but I do not think there is one for T-Mobile US. So I just need some guidance on how to put back factory recovery, and then relock bootloader without T-Mobile it was ever unlocked. I believe this can be achieved thru S-OFF then S-On back on again after you fix the "re-locked" and "tampered". If someone can walk me through how to properly do this and the files I would need I give you huge gratitude.

Turn off the tamper stuff

Everything will appear stock
once the new revone comes out you can go back to s-on and it really is all stock

[Q] Unlocking with HTCDev

Hey. I've been wanting to unlock the bootloader of my One and stupidly enough I accepted the 4.2.2. OTA so I can't really use revone now because of the updated hboot. Anyways, my only option seems to be using the HTCDev tool but here's where my paranoia comes to mind. Are they keeping a record on whoever's unlocked their One? Basically, I don't want them knowing I've unlocked it - mostly because they have no need to know it.
I guess I could wait until revone is updated but I have no idea when that'll be, hence my question.

They probably keep a record of who has requested an unlock token - but I doubt they can tell if you have used it or not..

I just want to unlock my bootloader, but I hate that everything's wiped. With revone, nothing's wiped but then again I'm not sure if S-OFF's ever possible on 1.54. Then I'm stuck.

1.54 can't be s-off'd at the moment. Hopefully soon though

I don't know the situation in Norway but in Holland HTC sends the phones in to a 3rd party repair company (dynafix, fixes all types of phones, also does (warranty) repairs for eg samsung) for warranty repairs, I doubt they can or bother to look into the database and see if an unlock token has been requested. I think the technicians have been instructed to look at the bootloader status (unlocked/relocked) and been instructed to deny warranty in such cases as much as possible.... I send in my device for warranty s-off(with revone though never unlocked via htcdev), but with locked bootloader, and it was repaired under warranty

as long as its an Online process, and its done over the internet and requires your IMEI & SN i am %100 they keep record of your history.
unlike samsung which uses Odin app to unlock, Root, Flash stuff without going online

[Q] Could this actually work? (HTCDev Warranty Void Workaround Idea)

Long store short: HTCDev site allows for easy unlocking but it requires the user to enter a token that marks them in their system as having an unlocked bootloader, thereby allowing them to void your warranty in cases where software modifications had no play in hardware faults.
The problem: Revone grants S-Off but I heard from an XDA thread stating that the new OTA update for the HTC One might have patched this exploit; the current and only RUU available is this current version. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2375223&page=14) I have accidentally reset my phone before and it actually downgrades this update, making it possible for the Revone exploit to work.
So here is my plan to bypass this (This is my first time playing with an Android phone so I'm not sure if this would even work.):
1.) Reset phone to out-of-box version.
2.) Backup stock ROM. (Don't know if this is possible without root; if not, then my plan is screwed.)
3.) Use Revone to obtain S-Off,
4.) Change MID and CID, then flash Google Play Edition RUU.
5.) Unlock bootloader via "fastboot oem unlock" to bypass HTCDev unlock.
To Revert Back to Stock:
6.) Use Revone to remove "tampered" and change "unlocked" to "locked." (not "re-locked")

7.) Flash the backup of the stock ROM.
8.) Remove S-Off with "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3."

9.) Send back to HTC with an active warranty.
Could this theoretically work? Sorry about the noob-ness; I use to be an iSheep so forgive my ignorance if all of this is just complete crap.
Edit: The point of this is to keep the version of stock ROM that is exploitable with Revone so S-Off can be obtained once more. If unless someone can confirm that the current T-Mobile RUU is exploitable.

This will only work if you're not on the new boatloader before you try to s-off.

I don't know of a way you will be able to backup the stock ROM without having a custom recovery which requires an unlock. At least backing up everything system/data as you alluded. It would require CWR or TWRP.
You also will be required to change your MID and CID back as well before going stock, I'll admit its a little dangerous but everything except the backup seems sound.

You're making this complicated for no reason :S Get S-Off, flash stock rom found on Android Development forum, send it to HTC S-Off, they don't care. They have bigger issues at the moment anyway, what with losing half their design team.

I believe your basic premise that unlocking your bootloader via HTCDev website method leads to your warranty becoming void is incorrect.
The following article explains in some detail why your warranty remains intact

Unfortunately, HTC Repair Centres will void warranty if they see it is unlocked or tampered, and the article you linked is old and cannot be used as fact. Many people have had their warranties voided because of this. Sure, go sue HTC, but you will spend a lot of time, effort and cash doing that

Yes they can and will void your warranty, you knew the risks with unlocking the bootloader...should do your your

Most countries will have some form of consumer protection legislation, your legal rights will obviously vary from country to country.
In the the UK it's covered by the Sale of goods act . Throughout the rest of Europe there is equivalent legislation under a EU directive
There is no need for anyone to sue HTC or other company in order to obtain your legal right of redress should goods that you have bought new subsequently become faulty.
I am certain that USA and numerous other countries will have similar legislation.
I have read many posts on xda from people who reported that their phone had been repaired or replaced, having previously unlocked via HTC dev .
If you and others choose to believe otherwise, then that's fine with me, I just feel that what I sincerely believe is a misinformed opinion shouldn't go unchallenged.

I've actually just returned mine and I had no way to remove the tampered flag etc but they didn't bill me ... They didn't fix it either though lol, they said they'd changed the camera but the same fault still exists.
I spoke to a guy at HTC and he basically said your warranty would only be void if the fault was caused as a result of something you flashed or as a result of unlocking the bootloader (he mentioned the motherboard specifically). The problem I have is that I don't trust them enough to send it back again, I'd already been without it for 2 weeks and after all that it wasn't any different. My main concern though is that they could tell me the warranty was void and I couldn't do a thing but pay £25 to get me phone returned to me, un-repaired, or pay them to repair it, both are out of the question lol

You are over complicating the process. Assuming you are able to obtain s-off, as it is impossible for some one owners currently, use revone to s-off. Revone can also unlock the boot loader, so no need for htcdev at all.
If you want a GPe one, flash the ruu zip. If not, don't. But remember, if you just want GPe, you can flash a ROM. The ruu zip contains all the firmware too for a full conversion. You should change cid if you do it, to get ota's, but mid change is unnecessary.
When getting ready to return for warranty, if necessary, flash an official RUU.exe. You will need to lock your boot loader for this, and again, revone has a tool built in to lock it, not relock. You will not need to reset the tampered flag, because being s-off prior to flashing the custom recovery for the first time causes your phone to never run the security checks that flag it as tampered in the first place. Remember to change your cid to match the RUU.exe that you flashed. And leave the phone s-off when you turn it in. It may return in a state where you could not re s-off it. Also a few devices made it into the market this way, so they can not use it as a basis for voiding your warranty.
TL;DR:
Revone elimates the need to use HTCDev completely.
Do or don't flash GPe, that's up to you, but not a necessity.
An RUU will bring your phone completely back to stock, no need for backup.
Leave it s-off when you send it in.
Edit;
When I say no need for a backup, I mean if you're s-off and if you only need to get your device to 100% out of the box condition.
If you're playing around and flashing this and that, by all means, backup, backup, backup. You will be happy you did when you have to use one and don't need to start from the ground up.

They've always replaced and repaired my rooted/tampered phones, including HTC One.

Sending phone in questions ?

Ok so I'm sending my phone in for repair and would like to know what to do and what not to do when sending in to HTC for repair . I just dont want to pay extra for stupid crap software wise or some stupid re install fee for modifying my phone . I have no problems completing any task nessecary to go back to stock I just want to know what I cab get away with sending to htc. So here it goes
I have at&t branded one
I'm currently on android 4.3
Firmware 3.17
S-off
Cid 11111111
Hboot 1.55
And bootloader unlocked.
What can I get away with ? Leaving s-off no matter what and we all know why just hoping I get my same phone back .
Since I'm att does it matter that I'm higher than 4.1.2 and higher hboot cid bootloader etc etc
Really what does HTC care about ? And what should I correct before sending in to HTC ?

To OP: What problem are you sending it in for? If its a hardware problem that couldn't be caused by anything you did, then leave it. They dont care unless it could be caused by something you did to the bootloader. Just to be safe though, you could make a twrp backup, then flash a stock rom. No need to relock the bootloader or anything.

Advising they don't care about unlocked and unsigned software is bizarre, since people have been refused repair or charged for a new mainboard.

In the US? When I called HTC to do my repair (power button stopped working), I asked if unlocking the bootloader mattered. He said not unless you brick the phone doing it. I sent it in bootloader unlocked and ARHD installed. I got it back with no hassles.

K cool this is what I wanted to know sending in for BoomSound check tighten up some gaps in speaker and check my camera out no luck with 3.27 or 3.18 well my phone isn't bricked and works great so I'm gonna leave just how it is I also live in US

So just called HTC to send phone in said first thing they do is a factory reset when phone gets to facility so I'm just gonna run latest dev ruu and leave my cid 1111111 and s off and hope for the best lol
