[Q] Unlocking with HTCDev - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey. I've been wanting to unlock the bootloader of my One and stupidly enough I accepted the 4.2.2. OTA so I can't really use revone now because of the updated hboot. Anyways, my only option seems to be using the HTCDev tool but here's where my paranoia comes to mind. Are they keeping a record on whoever's unlocked their One? Basically, I don't want them knowing I've unlocked it - mostly because they have no need to know it.
I guess I could wait until revone is updated but I have no idea when that'll be, hence my question.
Cheers.

They probably keep a record of who has requested an unlock token - but I doubt they can tell if you have used it or not..

I just want to unlock my bootloader, but I hate that everything's wiped. With revone, nothing's wiped but then again I'm not sure if S-OFF's ever possible on 1.54. Then I'm stuck.

1.54 can't be s-off'd at the moment. Hopefully soon though

I don't know the situation in Norway but in Holland HTC sends the phones in to a 3rd party repair company (dynafix, fixes all types of phones, also does (warranty) repairs for eg samsung) for warranty repairs, I doubt they can or bother to look into the database and see if an unlock token has been requested. I think the technicians have been instructed to look at the bootloader status (unlocked/relocked) and been instructed to deny warranty in such cases as much as possible.... I send in my device for warranty s-off(with revone though never unlocked via htcdev), but with locked bootloader, and it was repaired under warranty

as long as its an Online process, and its done over the internet and requires your IMEI & SN i am %100 they keep record of your history.
unlike samsung which uses Odin app to unlock, Root, Flash stuff without going online

HELP ME Please! Dead nexus one... no recovery!

I'm blocked on bootloader with S-ON, i can't use fastboot and there isn't a recovery installed on my phone... please can anyone help me?
Unlock the bootloader.
Solved via fastboot and unlocked bootloader...thanks! Is there a way to relock the bootloader?
Look up Blackrose bootloader mod in Development forum.

No way yet to relock the bootloader unless you have S-OFF. At this point, the only way to get S-OFF is to use an XTC clip.

What kind of info do you want?? If you want S-OFF on your N1, buy an XTC clip. There's a link in my signature.
Relocking the bootloader isn't needed. If you want to get rid of the padlock sign - flash Blackrose bootloader, it'll give you that and much more. Personally, I don't think there's a good reason to want to relock the bootloader.

I agree with you, except there is one reason to want to re-ock the bootloader: to say that you can. Whether it's a good one, is debatable.
With the blackrose the guaranty is the same avoid??? The only reason is guaranty...

As I said earlier, Blackrose does NOT re-lock the bootloader, so the warranty is still void.

For that your right so an experienced user would know to look in bootloader to see if the security is set to S-off but I bet you htc just check to see if there is a padlock (I say this because when I got mine repaired the guy didn't even seem to know what cyanogen mod was so I doubt they know about blackrose) so technically your warranty is void but you can probably get away with a repair anyway. Though this is pretty irrelevant because the nexus one has a 1 year warranty and the nexus one was no longer sold by this time last year so everyone's warranties should be expired by now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: although unlocking your bootloader technically voids your warranty, based on users' experiences here and in other forums, HTC will still honor it, despite an unlocked bootloader.
By the way, some N1's have 2-year warranties, depending on where you bought it.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Ya I've herd of a few cases that the bootloader was unlocked and they got repairs anyway but I've also herd of some where they didn't so a 50 - 50 chance isn't that good, so it's better to put the odds on your side. Now the fact that some N1's had a 2 year warranty that I had no idea so thanks for the info.

[Q] S-off

Do I unlock my bootloader using HTC.com website or should I wait for a developer to create a S-Off method? do we really need S-Off?

S-Off doesn't really have much use on this phone. Since it's Qualcomm, kernels can be flashed in recovery anyway, and the only real reason for S-Off would be to downgrade to previous firmwares.

so if I use HTC.com to unlock it, I will be able to flash roms and stuff from recovery as normally I do with my HTC 4G LTE ?(been doing it with the EVO and EVO 3D also)
i think the s-off method is preferable above HTCdev.
Warranty wise that is.
if you are s-off you won't be registered @ HTC for having unlocked your bootloader and thus reduced your warranty...

what if you don't want htc to know that you are rooting your phone for warranty purposes
any way of doing this? anyone working on s-off?
No idea if the phone has had a chance to reach anyone outside of the EU (and slow roll out even over here.)
I'm guessing that when the phone is in the hands of a lot more people the race will be on to be the 1st to deliver s-off.
Until there's a desperate need for me to flash an updated radio or maybe a bootloader I don't appear to need it though.

Unlocked Phone<Debranding

If your phone is locked to a specific carrier, Is unlocking the bootloader the equivalent too debranding
If so, then once unlocked isn`t it possible to run any RUU to get it back to a factory state of some sort...
Nevermind. lol

No.... unlocking the bootloader will make no difference to carrier branding, to do this you will need to flash a stock or custom rom.
In order to run any RUU you will need to s-off your device but this can only be done if you have an hboot of 1.44. Without s-off you can only run the RUU for your specific device.
And Btw it is currently illegal to sim unlock your device.

No it is not. Most carriers will unlock them for you for a fee and there are numerous other services which will also do this.
So your basically saying with S-Off, I dont need to run around looking for my device specific RUU file, which by the way does not exist..anywhere.
What should I expect after flashing any RUU file, negative affects...sim card not working..etc
See I flashed a custom Kernal and my camera crapped out.. I would just like to have it back and right now it seems like a full Factory is the only method
What is the best RUU file for a bell Canada match.. International maybe..or even developer..hmm. I may very well just s-off my phone to do this cause my camera means much to me.

I meant in the states its illegal to sim unlock a phone yourself. The carrier can unlock it and its not illegal.

This is a new law passed by the library of congress.
It'll probably take one or two years to repeal.
Regardless, it's not illegal for you because you have a time machine.

Yes, its illegal for new phones. But phones sold before the beginning of the year are ok. Yes its a stupid law and it should and hopefully will be repelled.
So if the phone is unlocked and s-off AND has a custom rom it isn't carrier specific anymore correct?

Sending phone in questions ?

Ok so I'm sending my phone in for repair and would like to know what to do and what not to do when sending in to HTC for repair . I just dont want to pay extra for stupid crap software wise or some stupid re install fee for modifying my phone . I have no problems completing any task nessecary to go back to stock I just want to know what I cab get away with sending to htc. So here it goes
I have at&t branded one
I'm currently on android 4.3
Firmware 3.17
S-off
Cid 11111111
Hboot 1.55
And bootloader unlocked.
What can I get away with ? Leaving s-off no matter what and we all know why just hoping I get my same phone back .
Since I'm att does it matter that I'm higher than 4.1.2 and higher hboot cid bootloader etc etc
Really what does HTC care about ? And what should I correct before sending in to HTC ?
Thank you for your time
Should I just change my cid to dev and flash dev ruu ?

Very helpful.
To OP: What problem are you sending it in for? If its a hardware problem that couldn't be caused by anything you did, then leave it. They dont care unless it could be caused by something you did to the bootloader. Just to be safe though, you could make a twrp backup, then flash a stock rom. No need to relock the bootloader or anything.

And saying the same thing in more words is more helpful?
He should return it to stock software, why risk it?
Advising they don't care about unlocked and unsigned software is bizarre, since people have been refused repair or charged for a new mainboard.

In the US? When I called HTC to do my repair (power button stopped working), I asked if unlocking the bootloader mattered. He said not unless you brick the phone doing it. I sent it in bootloader unlocked and ARHD installed. I got it back with no hassles.

K cool this is what I wanted to know sending in for BoomSound check tighten up some gaps in speaker and check my camera out no luck with 3.27 or 3.18 well my phone isn't bricked and works great so I'm gonna leave just how it is I also live in US

Is Sunshine the only way to unlock the m8 without htcdev?

So long story short I don't want HTC to have any info about what I'm doing with my phone because I've had a major issue with that in the past and I want to unlock it, root it and get s-off still. So with having a completely stock m8, sunshine is the way to go for me? Sorry if someone already posted something like this.
You can try Firewater first since it's free.
Am also sure you need to be rooted to s-off which means you need to unlock the bootloader using htcdev.

Ahh okay I see now so it gains root access by it's self so it is currently the only way to s-off with htcdev.
I know of no other method.

If Firewater had worked for me I would've been more than happy using HTC Dev with it. Just because you are requesting an unlock code from HTC does not prove that you actually used it so it's debatable whether using it or not has any real impact on their knowledge of your intended uses for your phone.

I personally had a horrible coincidence where my phone was not properly functioning from day 1 and I happened to have used htcdev so they had more than enough reason to blame me for the faulty components and charged me money to fix it since unlocking it voids the manufacturer warranty. So if you're fine with telling htc that you're unlocking your phone that's fine, I'm personally not going to do that again as long as I have an HTC device.

What state did you return the phone in? Was it still unlocked and rooted? S-Off? Did you attempt a faux-lock/s-on or anything like that?
To contrast some of the horror stories that people have regarding returning a HTC device for service, @Captain_Throwback has sent numerous devices to HTC and has never had an issue. His devices were rooted & S-off.
