Hi everyone
I have tried a bunch of JB 4.2 roms on my Note, some of them really awesome but there's this little annoying bug (feature?!) in each of them:
When speaking on the phone (no headset or sth), when sound level is relatively low, e.g. when a person stops talking, the sound gets cut out. Normally I would hear some background noise, like breathing or wind whisper or the cat scratching or whatever. But not on JB 4.2! Seems like the speaker turns off completely. Later when the caller speaks again, it turns back on, so the voice kinda appears from nowhere, every damn time!
To everyone who passes by this thread, please tell me if you experience this on your 4.2 aosp/cm-based rom, and what's most important, if you dont, please share your configuration (rom, kernel, radio version).
Much thanks

Hi guys, I'm running Darky 9.3 (don't know if that's relevant or not)
I've searched the forums (and the web) but couldn't find any mention of this. When I listen to music on my Galaxy S using headphones it sounds amazing, full stereo, really clear. When I use the external speaker its lovely and loud... but recently when listening to The Beatles I realised that it was only playing the left channel through the speaker (I assumed it would have been both left and right combined).
Now anybody who knows the early Beatles music and the massive stereo separation will realize this means I couldn't hear the drums/guitar/vocals depending on the track.
I tried the same song with headphones... perfect.
I tested this using both the stock Samsung music player and mSpot... the same with both.
Anybody else know about this?
Have to be honest this is just one of reasons i stoped useing custom roms as at some point i find issues i now use stock js8 its fast and reliable but i do wish you luck in finding answer

Or not properly inserted. No issues here.
The last two answers are just for fun or you guys don't understand english? He is talking about the sound through thephone's speaker!

Yeah i was just about to say... cable?
I only mentioned the Rom as I don't know if that's the cause or not. But yeah.. through headphones? music is fine... through external speaker? ...only left audio channel.
With most modern music you can get away with it to be honest as usually the vocals bass and drums are mixed to the centre... but with older stuff? you miss half the music!
rather annoying...
It is one channel. Voodoo sound fix can force mono which fixes it mate. Comes with 9.3

It is pretty much industry standard (and I don't just mean the mobile phone industry) that when representing Monoural audio, you use only the left channel! as mentioned, software mixers exist, but I would not be surprised if the stock rom did the same.

But I'm on Darky 9.3 and I have the problem... or are you saying the *problem* comes with 9.3?

hmm.... I'd have tested the stock rom if I'd realised about this in time. There's no way I can be bothered re flashing my phone... testing it... flashing it back and then going through all the hassle of setting up again. urgh. lol
I wonder if there's anybody who has a strong-stereo separation music track they can test who's on stock? is it two-channel mono? or just the left channel?
Thanks for the answers so far guys
Go into voodoo settings and choose force mono. I get 2ch audio

EDIT: Never mind I found it. Works great, thanks!
Just have to remember to turn it back to stereo when i put headphones in. But at least I can listen to The Beatles when I'm in the kitchen now on the built in speaker. Cheers!
can anyone confirm me what is "that" thing tippy in our device? i just try shaking my device today and notice that something is tippy in it. Sorry for my bad english.
What's tippy?
I think he means a ticking sound, likea lose part or something.
Don't experience that with my T though

The only thing I can think of that is supposed to move inside these phones is the vibration motor with its off-centre fly wheel/cam. If you can get your vibration motor to work, does the phone still tippy when you shake it? I was going to link to a vibration app from Play store but they seem to be quite....errr....innappropriate!
Everything else should be secure. I do not get any rattling with mine.
Yes. Lool like something is broken or lose in the device. Ive tried it several time, and the result is still same.hmm but all seems working fine.. Blootooth, wifi, data, vibrate, orientation and so on..

I also encounter a little "rattle" when shaking my Xperia V a lot. It seems to be somewhere near the camera, but I am not quite sure what could cause that sound. Who else can confirm that? Is this a problem or normal behaviour?
I think you mean how it carries the vibration when you knock it. I think it has something to do with NFC.or making it more shock resistant.
I did a lot of searching but all I found were ways to boost the two front facing speakers volume. I have poor hearing and this phone is much quieter than my old one, so unless I constantly use speakerphone I'm always saying "what? Huh?". It's kinda weak...
So are there any mods or apps that can boost the phone speaker up a few notches?
Volume + is an app that can do that but you need to be rooted IIRC

Actually this doesn't seem to work anymore and the dev seems to have quit supporting it.
Any current options? Reading through old forums it seems the HTC One X commonly had the same issue and only roms/kernals or toothbrushes solved it...
Try 'speaker boost' in the play store. I installed it for a friend a month ago so they could hear their talking caller ID more clearly in a loud environment. Seems to work well. Good luck!
Alsa Mixer.
You need root it will do exactly what you want to.
Free in GP.
Try recording something with absolutely no background noise of you talking breathing is fine you will hear a slight hiss during recording silence this is with the stock camera app and 100% fully stock google Image 4.4.2 Flashed No root no kernel all stock
Also there seems to be issue on the mic when in a voice call when there is silence also hissing noise and or when in a crowded environment it sounds muffled.
There are around 3 threads like this on the Q and A section. All NEXUS 5's have this issue STOP Hiding and bring awareness to Google and or LG
A quick search reveals many people having this issue. Search on Google for Nexus 5 mic issue
In fact it even affects the Nexus 4! and how old is the Nexus 4 now? its been doing that since 4.3!
I love it when people generalize with words like "all" and "everyone". Got mine new last week at Tmobile store. Voice calls are fine with no hissing. Recorded video and audio sounds fine. If there are three threads then why create another one. Read the rules!!, also if you want lg's attention go post in their support thread. No one but deaf ears will hear you here. If you are that unhappy return it.

I thought the video issue affected all units. So in quiet environments there is no static in your video recording?

If its a known issue it doesn't mean it can necessarily affect them all. Or maybe I'm not using the device the same way as you are where I can reproduce it .

If you don't like it, buy a new phone. On a side note, have you tried downloading a seperate recording app? As far as the call goes, I haven't had an issue with that, so its not ALL. Instead, you could of used: majority, almost all, a high percentage, a noticeable amount.

I still get the giggles reading your "The radio is great on the nexus 5" post.
I find that the level of hissing differs between devices. Some devices have it really bad where it sounds like someone is constantly blowing air into the mic, where as as on others you can barely hear any noise.
Is anyone else getting a "tapping" noise when on a call on any AOSP/CM based KitKat build? I have tried several ROMs (Beanstalk, LiquidSmooth, CarbonROM, DirtyUnicorn) and every one I get an occasional tapping sound well on the call, like someone is rapping their fingers on a door or glass countertop.
I have reverted to stock twice and taken the 12B OTA update, rooted and installed TWRP, and reflashed various ROMs to try to clean it up, but no dice... it is consistent among all KK builds, but no sign of it on stock 4.2.2, clean as a whistle audio there.
This doesn't seem to be an issue others have reported too much, just curious if it is known issue or I am just unique...
