[REQ] Disable emoticons in text messaging - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm not a huge fan of the cartoony emoticons in the HTC text messaging app, and would prefer not to install a 3rd party one (even though Textra *is* pretty great)
Any chance someone could make a mod or xposed module to disable these cartoons and use regular text based :^)
Cheers :good:

Possibly yes
I hope so..

Yes.. Please haha

[Q] [REQ] Messaging GUI

Can any one point me to a messaging theme or skin for our device? I'm getting bored of the yellow, baby blue and gray text bubbles.
not much of a choice other than chomp or handcent. Plenty of themes to choose from with chomp. I do have to admit, i miss the swiping in the message list.

I've never heard of either of these. Thank you, I'm going to give Handcent a try.
I liked the stock messaging app on the Droid 1.
Can I just remove the bubbles and goback to the boring I had on the d1?

Yes, just use the AOSP messaging app. I know it's in JT's ROM.

Messaging apk's

I'm looking for some messaging apks that are customized and compatible with my captivate. I have the original Samsung and the stock from Gingerbread but neither allow customized colors etc. And I really despise the yellow and blue bubbles. If I'm missing something obvious let me know too. I DO NOT want to use a third party application like gosms etc.
Thanks!

If its just bubbles then simply having them themed might be a better idea?
Yeah that's not a bad idea but what I do like about OEM is all the options that are stripped from the Samsung version of the apk.

HTC messaging app skins / themes

Hello there, I've flashed a few ROMS and decided that I love leedroid, but it's got the boring HTC messaging looking message app. I love the look of the cyanogenmod app, so is there anyway to get that on leedroid or if not, a way to skin the app?
Thanks in advance guys!

The problem with theming the stock htc sms app is that it uses the sense framework. any change you make to the sense framework will affect other apps because they all draw their resources from the same set. This is my understanding anyways.
My advice to you is to grab Gosms pro from the market. I prefer it over any other sms app
Thanks for the reply, if that's so, I shall have to download it, but really, I don't mind changing it all, I use launcherpro anyway so it won't me noticeable on the homescreen

Emoji keyboard in standard messaging app?

Hi all,
I've come from a SGS2 that was running an AOKP ROM which allowed you to enable the emoji keyboard in the messaging app settings. This is my first experience with sense and wanted to know if there were any sense based ROMs or even a mod that anyone was aware of for stock sense that would allow me to do the same?
My One is rooted and ideally I'd like to stick with the standard messaging app as I actually quite like it so I'm not looking to install a 3rd party app like GO SMS to get the emoji. I'm also really enjoying the experience by staying stock, everything just works and the battery life is ridiculously good! That being said, I'd be willing to make a backup and try a custom ROM.
My girlfriend likes to tell stories with emoji, I feel like I'm missing out without this!
Your comments are appreciated!
Cheers!
You Can Just Download "Emoji Keyboard" From The Playstore

Thanks but as per the OP this is not the solution I'm looking for.

Sense Notifications with Textra

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to use the productivity lock screen to display text notifications using Textra, or any other messaging app?
It seems like Sense notifications only work with Sense apps (or Gmail?)
Thanks!
Joel
Use Viper Rom and add Textra notifications to the tweaks app like I have. Works great!
