It's like a galaxy....

Who's to say you wont get the same or even worse with the S4, It can happen with any model you get

I had the note 2 since it's release date and with much lower PPI I never once noticed any stuck or dead pixels. After using this phone for only 2 days I began to notice these. I could deal with it if there were just a few of them but this is crazy.

Yes but if you get another phone there's no guarantee that there wont be more of less dead pixels. It's a crap shoot.

Screw Getting it replaced. All HTC Ones have turned to s*** because 1 phone is loaded with dead pixels...You were looking for a reason to hate it to be honest with you.

I'm never buying a screen again! My girlfriend's parents' TV got dead pixels after using it, all of my phones get dead pixels in the shape of middle fingers, it's just offensive. I wish someone would invent a paper screen with ink... That way when it messed up I could change the page...

I know that most of you don't venture too far from xda, but if you did you would realize this problem is very widespread. One guy went through four of them at the store and found several dead pixels on every single one of them. To all of you that say your screen has none, look closer because I highly doubt that. HTC's biggest failure has always been quality control, and the One is no exception. I decided to give them a chance again after using Samsung phones for the past 3 years, and I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. I'm not going to waste my time swapping out phones over and over, when I could just exchange it for a phone company, that from my personal experience, doesn't exhibit such severe defects.

It's not widespread, I've got 2 HTC ones and both have zero dead pixels.
With a device there are millions of in the world you have to expect a few lemons . If you found 50 people with dead pixels on their LCD you're still not "widespread".

Actually they look to be stuck on a color! there are programs you can run to fix that and if it persists i would exchange it. The S4 is NOT a better phone take a few to look at the reviews, lag , cheap quality etc just lets all calm down.

You really don't get the concept of reporter bias, do you? The population of people who post on forums tend to be the most vocal in their complaints. HTC has sold millions of these phones, and you're going to claim "this problem is very widespread" based on a skewed sample? Please go take some statistics classes.
By that token, I shouldn't have gotten my Galaxy Nexus, my Nexus 10, my Nexus 7, my Transformer TF300T, my iPad 3, my Galaxy Tab 10.1, or my HP TouchPad. Or even my Galaxy Player 4.0.

Went to the Sprint store and with the manager went through 4 NIB HTC One's. All of them had at least 4 stuck pixels, the worst one had over 10. Had him grab me an S4, and as expected, not a single stuck or dead pixel. I, like many, thought the One was going to be the phone that would bring HTC back into the game, but unfortunately that is not the case. You all go ahead and keep defending your purchase, but I can guarantee if you look close enough there are some stuck pixels on your screen. I am now the proud owner of a new Samsung Galaxy S4, and while the speaker quality may not be as good, it's still better than a screen that looks like the Milky Way Galaxy. I don't need statistics classes to tell me the display on that phone is a POS.

Took me three tries to get an decent HTC one. And even then I had to settle with some gaps because I didn't want to risk dead pixels.
I agree with the quality control issues.

I'd say trolling, but you're really just a joke at this point. You can guarantee that my phone has issues? You've crossed from being an angry buyer to outright silly. Color cycling my screen shows no dead pixels. I've actually never had any dead pixels of any kind, on any device I've own-- maybe it's because I take care of my device?
It's comical how fast you run from accepted statistical practice. After all, if your evidence is terrible, why try to play the game with facts?

Screen burn in + washed out

Update on my case:
I got my replacement unit yesterday and the screen is great. However now I have a slightly bent border and the infamous clicking sound issue on the left side...
I contacted GameStop again and requested a replacement when their 2nd wave comes, which is early next week so I'll see if I can be lucky this time. GameStop cs has been great so far.
Also Asus saw this post and contacted me for details. It seems they are aware and are doing researches on these defects.

Anyone having their nexus 7 with screen burn in and washed out colors with super obvious backlight bleeding?
I got mine yesterday and everything was great but this issue all of a sudden appeared when i turned it on after i woke up today.
Gamestop will try to do a special replacement order for me.
Edit: added some shots to show how uneven the backlight is and also the burn in issues. There was no flash used to take the shots.

Yes its really hard to capture with a camera but its definitely there. I found kicking up the brightness helps. The issue i was referring to might be intended so its easier to read in the dark.
Go look at threads from the G2x forum about screen bleed. Ridiculous amount of bickering over the same thing. If you don't like the product you got, exchange or return it. Not trying to stick it to the OP or anything, thanks for photos, just trying to kill this at the source before the N7 gets tainted with bad publicity because people didn't want to exchange. G2x's resale value plummeted because of issues like this being blown out of proportion, so it's in your best interest to bring the issue to light, let everyone know of any possible issues, then leave it up here for consideration if others have the same issue. Not make a 300 page thread about it comparing the extent of which you have the issues. It ended up as people taking countless photos and comparing them like a contest or something. I'm very sorry for anyone with this issue and i do hope you get it sorted out. For all I know mine will have the same issues.
Not trying to sweep anything under the rug, just trying to prevent the mass hysteria caused by this on the G2x.
From the arstechnica review:
A few days after the Nexus 7 hit developers' hands, a number of outlets reported that the tablet has problems with ghosting. Bringing up an image and letting it set on the screen for a couple of minutes would leave an impression of the image on the screen for up to a few minutes after the user has navigated away. We were able to recreate the problem, and found high-contrast images were particularly susceptible to imprinting ghosts on the screen.
However, the more we tried to recreate it, the faster the effect seemed to fade after we navigated away from the ghosted image. Eventually it was fading in a matter of seconds. The problem seems to be related to whether the screen is warmed up or not—if the tablet hasn't been recently used, an idle image will remain ghosted on the display for at least a couple of minutes, even as users continually change what the screen is showing. But once it's been on for a while—even if the image is left up for up to ten minutes—the ghost fades in a couple of seconds. There definitely is a problem, but it doesn't strike us as serious. That's as long as it doesn't, for instance, get worse as the tablet gets older.

What's your brightness set on. Too high will make it worse sometimes. Will also kill battery and overall screen life ( just like TVs) I say this because you also mentioned "washed out" look. This tends to happen when brightness is too high. (People do this on TVs too). High brightness is to help outdoor viewing, will actually make picture worse but people think it "pops" more. IF, this is the case try turning it down some You'll get use to it after a while. Mine at like 20% and I rarely have problems seeing screen. I do home theaters so take the advice knowing I'm not just spouting BS.

I already played around with brightness, it's all like that from the lowest to the highest brightness settings. It's super washed out with lights all bleeding from the sides and also areas in the middle. It's like the LCD panel can't block the lights out anymore.
Note that it was perfectly normal the day i got it. It only started happening today. So I know how it should look like...
Take it back. I have no light bleed at all. I think you got a lemon I would not accept light bleed in 4 corners, the center, burn in and washed out colors. I have none of your issues so take my advice and exchange it or if they have no more inventory return it and pick one up from another store

Wow, you must work for Google or something.
So what if a user gets angry at a corporation that doesn't give a [email protected]#% amount of care of a little something called quality control. It's the 21st century and there are means by which end-users should be alerted of what they may eventually buy. The Galaxy Nexus screen issues were never mentioned anywhere but here, on xda. Even Samsung denied the issue and dubbed them as being "non-existent", so they thought they'd just swap out used phones, and now you have pissed off users who made 3-4-5 swaps already and their issues are still there.
Remember the iphone 4 reception issues and apple's reaction to them? And don't even let me even mention the ridiculous amount of epic memes that derived from it.
My point is that to prevent these things from happening, end users should get mad and spread the issues as wide as one can, so that eventually it reaches the upper levels of the company, so they can start doing something about it.
A positive example is Sony with their flagship Xperia S and it's screen issues. They admitted their fault and triggered an utter logistical nightmare to exchange or replace any faulty screen, although even they tried to "limit" it to one faulty batch.
So yes, blow these tiles of things out of proportion, because this is not a minor issue!

if there is a common problem, everyone should know about this. samsung is still manufacturing ****ty hardware albeit this 300 page threads. look at the sgs3 section and see faulty screen posts. they are treating end users like beta testers.
I was using mine all day yesterday and didn't notice that the screen was a little washed out till today, seems to have went away tho (or less noticeable now). I also have minor screen bleeds but from what I've read this is common with IPS displays.
Yeah, right, I work for Google... Good detective work there.
Obviously you didn't read or understand my post.
What I'm saying is just because there are some defective units out there, doesn't mean you need to start writing hate mail to Google, Asus, and Obama. Every product has defective units, even with QA checks. I'm just hoping the N7 users will get warranty replacements instead of just whining and complaining for 6 months when they could have just called a freaking phone number and taken care of it.
And if the company is willing to replace the product, why would you blow it out of proportion? Companies can easily find excuses not to replace your product. THAT is when you need to blow issues out of proportion.

Every device has defective screens it seems like. Honestly, it might just be cheaper for them to piss off the 2% of users who actually read stuff here than change the manufacturing process. It sucks. It really does. It forces us who are actually bothered by it to exchange til we get a good one. Which can take a few tries sometimes. It's a bummer but that's what our profit-driven society has come to.
Mostly first batches have problems, not all off them are working properly. I don't see why everyone complaining, just get it exchanged, it is £200 or $200 tablet, they aren't gonna put a super expensive display on. The IPS is already good enough for its price, heck the Kindle Fire display is terrible compared to this and I hardly see they complain.
IPS Screen burn are only temporarily compared to Amoled, use 'Dead Pixel Test' in the market to get rid of it. The app flashes different colour screens and it'll eventually go away faster. Trust me, I've had this problem before but never complained. *cough*

I live in the US and I don't care for LTE. If you have to pay lots and lots of money for internet service on your phone, you wouldn't care. I am mostly on WIFI and many places where I live has Wifi hotspots. and HSPA+ gives me about 1MBps which is more than enough for my non-WiFi Connection.

Yeah, like wtf. So when Apple had glass on their phone for 2 years straight it wasn't a problem but a design of a sleek phone. Now when a Nexus has it, it's a problem because the moron dropped it? Really?
His giving the screen a score of 8, but giving the screen on the Optimus G a 9 seems a little odd.
Disappointing.
I'll probably just stick with my GS2 and wait for my free upgrade in April.
That was a pretty bad review.
The only thing I heard in the video review was: "It has no LTE, yada yada... So basically don't buy it because it DOES NOT HAVE LTE etc etc" The guy sounds like a complete moron only focusing on something idiotic like that.
What I also don't understand is that he gives the Optimus G screen a 9 and the Nex4 an 8. Aren't they identical!?

Yeah i kinda lol'd, i do agree it would suck a lot, especially given you can't easily replace it(but atleast probably both easier and cheaper than the iphone), but still, this didn't seem to be a very huge point with either the iPhone 4 or the 4s.
LG Nexus 4:
That glass covering is cause for concern, however. While testing the phone, I accidentally knocked the device off of my dining table and onto a hardwood floor... cracking the glass on the back. It's a small fracture, but had I just paid $300 for the device, I would be irate, and I'm not sure what LG or Google's policy is on replacement.

Maybe the screen is calibrated differently, or there are quality fluctuations between the screens.
Camera is better than expected, which was pretty much my only concern with this device. :good:
CRACK OMG I am going to get an otter box for this phone.
I read the whole thing, and its a crap review - so don't bother,
I constantly got the feeling that because this retard broke the back of his phone, it now 'breaks easily' and the fact of no LTE is a big no-no for this guy, so I got the feeling throughout the whole review, that he preferred other devices because of these 2 things.
Even stating its the fastest phone hes used, with super battery etc - the tone of the review all led back to his own stupidity of dropping it on a hard floor and the lack of LTE.
To Verge:
LTE is not the norm AT ALL!
UK has one network only offering it, and its only in selected cities - LTE also gives very little performance increase for browsing (only downloading)
This guy speaks like a typical American, sorry. (Generic)
He's arrogant enough to think America has it, so assumes everyone else has (or doesn't care that nobody else has it,but because he can get it and wants it - then it should have it or its crap), and because he wants to load websites a second longer and boast of speed test results, doesn't mean everyone is willing to double their monthly costs for LTE when most people use internet for just browsing, not to mention the crazy data caps, high battery drain etc that LTE brings - it also slows down software updates!
Im glad the review cleared up super performance & battery - but the rest just stunk of bitterness for his own stupidity.

I'm not sure what to make of it lol.
In his unscientific battery life test he says it's good, but according to Anandtech and Engadget battery life is slightly better than the Galaxy Nexus but worse than the Optimus G.

I am currently running a Galaxy S3 and am considering this phone or the Optimus G .. 4.2 looks incredible, not sure how long it would take LG to update their flagship phone to the current software. Since they built the Nexus 4 you would think that they would have a head start.

Thanks,
This panel is one of the best you can get right now, and is on par with the 720p displays we've played with on the One X and Samsung Galaxy S III. It ranks in between those two competitors when it comes to color saturation. The darks are as dark as you'll see on the One X (but less than the GS3), and the whites are brighter than on either rival phone. We also noticed that the Nexus shows off the darkest reds and magentas, as well as the lightest greens and yellows. As a result, your viewing experience may differ slightly from other 720p displays, but we've been very pleased with what we've seen on the Nexus 4.

Thats more like it, it should be similar to ONE X but of course, different colour reproductions always differ from screens, this is neither a good, or bad thing - some colours will look better than one x, whilst others will look better on one x - but a review saying on-par, is what we all expected - certainly the opposite of what verge said.

From time to time, some of them do forget they're also watched by the other 95% population on the planet.:laugh:

My first week in the wild with a Nexus 4

It's been 8 days since I got my N4, and I've spent a full week of sixth form college using it. (Like the last two years of high school for you non-Brits.) In my case, it's been fantastic. I love it.
Hell, it even helped me get a girls number. I just met her, was talking to her for a bit, whipped out my N4 to check the time and she grabbed it off me in awe and added her number to my contacts
One of the main things on my mind was how tough the gorilla glass actually was. And I can say, it is in perfect condition. No scratches or marks whatsoever, but I have been very careful with it.
In Cambridge I get a decent HSPA signal and generally fast speeds. No HSPA+ on giffgaff though I listen to music on the bus and the audio quality is great, maybe on par with an iPod/iPhone. (Yes, you can tell the difference with a cheap Android phone and an iDevice.) The speaker is mediocre though, and the volume is severely reduced when placed on a flat surface.
The screen is wonderful, I haven't noticed any yellow tint or washed out colours like some people say. The way the glass curves off to the edge is magnificent, and really makes a significant difference in interacting with the phone.
On the topic of the screen, the glass itself feels very premium. It's smooth to the touch and is the most oleophobic screen I've used. The phone feels like it should be priced much higher.
The reflective back is very tasteful, it never looks tacky. A lot of the time it's just black and looks great. The camera is better than expected, it produced good photos.
Performance is good, I've had very few slow downs and games play at a high FPS. Chrome being the stock browser doesn't bother me, it holds up very well when browsing. The only difference you'll notice will be in benchmarks. There isn't really much to say about 4.2, I'm sure you're all aware of it's features. My only gripe is that the quick settings aren't toggles, they're just shortcuts.
Battery life is well.. meh. It's enough to hold up my day of moderate use (taken off charge at 6:30AM, get home about 5:15PM), but it's normally less than 15% by then. I would've liked something that could hold up for a bit longer.
I have also found that WiFi signal seems to be worse than previous devices I've owned, but I'm just looking for something to complain about now.
Overall, it's great. In my opinion, taking into the fact that it's a Nexus device, it's the best phone on the market. My friends seem to like it too, no one I've talked to so far knew what it was, but they're definitely interested in it. One of my buddies insist that I give it to him for his birthday :highfive:
For you guys who also have the phone, what do you think of it? And what have other people said about your new treasure? Feel free to ask any questions too

I like your summary!
I'm getting mine on Monday when my dad brings it with him from the U.S!
I think that most of the issues will be resolved in 4.2.1 (maybe even bringing LTE), making this a nearly perfect phone!!!

Thanks! That's awesome, you're gonna love it. I sure hope so
For me, LTE isn't really on the agenda due to it's scarcity and price in the UK, but it would definitely make this phone more future proof

To me, it sounds like O2 are preparing a nationwide DC-HSDPA rollout.
As its already available in limited big cities.
So, if the rollout is due end of this year - must mean everyone else, right?

Good day governor, I await my Nexus 4 on giffgaff with some tea and biscuits.
Waiting for my nexus to come in as well in Cambridge, ON Canada. I always thought canada was behind on mobile tech. (we have had DC-HSPA for a couple years now LTE) but its good to know that we have caught up for the time being.

Bahaha you xda peeps crack me up! Don't worry I get plenty :good: She is a damn sexy phone though
Picked up my N4 today and have been getting to grips with it, initial impressions are. It's fast though have had slow down. Gets very hot during anything using GPS or when playing games. Camera is average and when using the flash images are washed out. It's a bit early to say much about the battery life but after 1hr38mins, its down to 73%. build quality seems good. I thought it would be a bigger leap up from my old phone but am a little disappointed currently. I will continue but if it doesn't impress further it will go back. Do love jelly bean!

Initially the battery is worse. After a few days it seemed to last longer. I also found that it gets quite warm, but I think that's mostly due to the glass
Coming from one s, it was gonna be a one x+ or N4 but like the natural android experience.

Lets settle this once and for all!!!!

Ok guys and gals I've had enough of the back and forth on which phone is better blah blah blah. Look guys I work for sprint and have had time to test both phones out extensively and I must say it Is a close tie you can't go wrong with either one. Now onto the real topic my tech and I both performed tests on both phones ranging from bench marks to camera to software etc etc and we both agreed the HTC ONE out beat the Samsung galaxy s4 by a slight edge. Now yes I realize Samsung gives you all these features and options and it's nice to have them but it takes away from the phone a lot. HTC is missing some simple key features that would put it over the top but it doesn't take away that it is an amazing phone. Onto the results in the quadrant score the HTC ONE beat the s4 three out of three times the numbers don't lie. Camera the HTC ONE performed better in daylight outside low light etc. We even had customers look at the same photo on both phones and nine out of ten times customers chose the HTC over the Samsung so I don't understand where these people get the idea that more pixels are better I mean are you blowing up a picture to life size? Hardware we both agreed the HTC has the better hardware it's a no brainer but the function of a removable battery and sd slot give the Samsung a slight edge. Screen quality although the Samsung has the nice five inch screen this category comes as a tie because you really can't go wrong with either one. I understand that HTC hasn't been the best at giving updates and developers stop developing for HTC a lot earlier than Samsung but this is HTC's last chance to bring themselves back I don't see them screwing this up. My tech has the Samsung galaxy s4 and will often say Damn I wish I got the HTC ONE instead. I'm tired of hearing all these stupid battles on which phone is better let's be done adult ass people and realize that we all don't have the same taste and we will like whatever phone suits US better. With all that said here comes the reality of the fact Samsung has better features but the HTC is the better all around performer. Hopefully we can end this fight and come to peace to help each other develop great roms and features for both phones and help take down apple instead of taking each other down that is all. My apologies for run on sentences and what not.
It'll never stop.
Walls of text should be illegal, thanks for the input tho.

That's coincidental, not irony.... But if Alanis Morissette got it wrong, you can't blame others for doing same.
Besides use Tapatalk instead. It actually works better on the iPhone 6+ than Note 4 (you see more content/posts on it).
I have both the 6+ & Note 4 (and a moto x 2014) and contrary to popular belief the two can co-exist very happily - both great phones. My app usage is near identical between them too.
Both have great screens and great battery life. And after 5 months use, neither my Note 4 has a gap gate issue or iPhone 6+ bend gate issue....
I don't understand why some in android or apple communities get so insecure about these things. Just enjoy whatever device you are using.
That being said I'm not sure why your post is entirely relevant here and will inevitably stir up a hornets nest.
I must admit I have thought about it while sitting here waiting for lollipop. Considered the Nexus 6 as well, but at the end of the day this Note can do things that none of the competition can. The pen mostly but the removable battery and sd card are also nice. 6+ would be ok if I got the 128gb version but here in New Zealand a 32gb Nexus 6 costs the same as a note 4 so it's a total no brainer, lollipop or not.

I actually had the same thought, because I admire the beauty of the iPhone. But after taking a look I realized that they wanted me to pay extra cash for the exchange which is ridiculous since they get a better phone from me then I get from them.. But I might trade phones, just to try out the 6+ someday..
Im waiting for "IPhone 17 plus +" until then I stick with Note series.

I actually think it's not a bad idea at all. I've been with Andorid since the start and never had an Iphone, but there's tons of apps that have better support on iOS/apps that are not on Android at all. anyway..why not change once in awhile and try new things right? maybe i'll do it with my next phone
I made complete research, and just for change of taste, i went to buy an iphone 6+, got it booked here in Pakistan. but ended up buying a Note 4, and my first 2-3 days were of full depression because of battery drains but now its all fine. the only regret i have is the sound quality i was having with htc one m8 before, otherwise note4 is soooo awesome <3
After just one day with it, I quite content with it. Seems to be pretty solid...so far.

The fact that you can't use NFC (no secure token such as yubikey) for anything other than ApplePay, or that you can't use openvpn or PGP on an iPhone makes it an unsuitable/undesirable device for me. I hate how you can only run software endorsed by Apple on a device you paid for.

Agree but that's how they maintain the pubic perception that their platform is stable, secure and reliable. In reality it's no better that a high end Android these days, it's just that it's much easier for Android users to completely bork their phone by installing badly built apps.
Also iOS is easier to develop for, so long as you're compatible with the latest iOS you don't really need to worry about much else. Android is completely different. People could be running your app on anything from gingerbread to lollipop, have from a 1ghz single core cpu to a quad/octa core monster, 512mb to 3gb ram, 600x800 up to 1440x2560 screen res, etc etc.
In other words I couldn't give a **** for iOS, but the app ecosystem is kind of tempting.

So much of this. I have both the devices too, along with a nexus 6 and i really don't understand the hate on both sides. Plus as others have already said the topic is irrelevant on this forum. There is such a thing as discretion of posting.
That said to the OP, iPhone 6 plus is a fine device. Enjoy the great apps, a great consistent camera and great battery life.

Can you elaborate on this? While your statement holds partial truth, it was also ironic that I tried to download a well-known android app on my iPhone. Never, EVER make me feel like I wasted money on an education again!
