Phone was flashed to 2.2, however after shutting down the phone and booting it up again, I get Black SCREEN + glowing buttons.
Device : Samsung i9000 from Bell running flashed 2.2 Rom.
I've tried following this guide :
STAGE 1 (applies only if you are coming from an earlier Froyo build)
* We are now going to flash the XWJM8 firmware again (Éclair), so make sure that you load the files for this firmware in Odin.
* In PIT, load the 502.PIT file
* For PDA, select the ‘CODE_I9000XWJM8.tar.md5’ file and for PHONE, select the ‘MODEM_I9000XXJM4.tar.md5’ file. Leave all others blank.
* Make sure that the Re-partition box is checked. All other settings should be as shown in the screenshot below.
*Sorry can't post link, forum restriction*
After stage 1, Odin says Passed, my i9000 reboots with still a black screen+ glowing buttons.
I want to start Stage 2, however I can't find the file ‘JPO_JPO_U_JPP.tar’ file.
I've looked up for solution for the last 2 days and can't seem to find a solution anywhere.
Things I've tried on my own without sucess :
Flashed again this time with a CSC from bell, I've read that sometimes without CSC flashing can't be done, but even with the CSC files, my phone is still ''bricked''
Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Ultimately, I want to go back on 2.2 but for now, I just want my phone to boot again =(.
Hate to say it but it sounds like yout internal sd card is dead like MANY OTHERS who have flashed... No way to fix except to send for repairs to bell/samsung...

I wish you'd stop stating that flashing fubar's your phone. Many people running stock, unrooted devices are reporting the same problem.
Isn't there a way to try and access internal sd card?
Have you try doing a factory reset?
Yeah, I've tried doing so, after reading and researching online, I think this could fix my problem.

However adb doesn't even reconize the phone =/

I diddnt specifically mean that it was the flashing that did it but it is OBVIOUS that it happened after he flashed right???
It is known that flashing will sometimes "speed up" the death of an already faulty sd card and that is what I meant by my original post...
And PS... The number of people reporting their sd cards failing on stock firmware w/ no lagfix or no previous flashes to "unofficial firmware" is WAY lower than those reporting sd card death after flashing or adding lagfixes, etc...
Which obviously points to an existing hardware fault that is exacerbated by flashing, not caused by flashing

And again... I did not specifically state that it was the "flashing" that killed the OP's phone. I simply stated that this seems to happen to MANY people after they flash. NOT the same thing...
Did you come to this thread to argue or to help the OP? I simply posted a reply last night stating that it seems his internal SD card is dead so that he could prepare himself for having to send it away for repairs. I did not respond to the OP to get into an arguement with anyone over "what causes the internal SD cards to fail".
Don't argue guys! I appreciate all your help
What is the best way to ''fix the internal sd card''
Isn't there a way to like factory reset the internal sd card.

@cuem,
Unfortunately... If it is an actual dead internal sd card (which it seems to be since the steps you followed already did not seem to fix the issue) the only way to fix it is to send it back to Bell who in turn will send it off for warranty repair.
IF you have just purchased the phone within the last 30 days (possibly 60 if Bell is still extending the DOA return policy) and you have a receipt you can take it back to Bell and get an exchange.
Again, unfortunately these are your only options to get this fixed...
Sorry to be the bearrer of bad news...
Just when I think this couldn't get worst,I was wrong.
I tried using Odin3 One-click downloader, I wanted to flash it with At&t stock firmware( hopefully it would work) then flash it again with 2.1 clair
After using Odin3 One-click downloader, it said sucessed, but now my phone is STUCK on At&t blinking logo and I can't go into download mode anymore.
I've tried the 3 keys combo, adb doesn't reconize the phone.
I'm pretty much screwed, warranty won't work if Bell sees At&T logo blinking upon power up.......

Ooooooo... That is not good. The American Vibrant is NOT the same as out i9000 models.
What you need to do now is search the forums for the homemade jig thread that will force your device into download mode. Search the forums and you will find it.
Be prepared to be "handy" as you will have to build the jig from scratch...

Yeah, I've read about the Jig thing, I've also read about heating your phone with a hairdryer,
I'm currently trying out the hairdryer, but it doesn't work =/
Might have to try the Jig thing, which seems a little complicated with ordering since I'm running out of time =/
Jig worked, im back to my intial problem.
BLACK SCREEN + GLOWING BUTTON.
This has happened to me, I just flashed with an older version, for me JM5 worked fine.

I had the same thing after flash and spent many hours and tried many different methods to get it back up with no success.
I'm leaving the country for Europe on January 2nd for vacation. This was the last thing I needed... Hopefully I get it back before then, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hi
Kies killed me when I was just trying to update to Froyo officially. Since then I used Odin 1 click and everything seems ok, except for the fact that its att now. I want to eventually get to official rogers 2.2 froyo with no gremlins lurking hidden in the file system. I downloaded the i896 rogers 2.2 rom. How can I install it so that my phone will be stock 2.2? Same boot loader, same rom, same everything as if the update had gone smoothly through kies. I want it to be rogers only.
Well, thanks to all for you help.
And a special thanks to the Kies programmers. I have bricked devices trying to install unofficial things before but I have never bricked a phone through official channels, Amazing work guys amazing.
Thanks to the xda community for again saving my rear
I think if you search there is a Odin for a stock rogers. I will have to look....
Try this thread for rogers stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846501&highlight=odin+rogers
Hi,
more problems. Even though ODIN said it was sucessful it just went to the battery icon. Now the phone shows att logo for a second, reboots and does it again. Not even sure if I can get back to download mode! All this for a friggin official update!
ok I need to calm down. But this is really upsetting
I have a AIO rogers 3.0 tool kit, and I have a stock rogers rom. I do not however know how to get it onto my phone. The odin program just has start.
The rogers AIO program has back up to stock but always says cannot communicate with device.
Please help, I have no idea why things have been so messed up.
same happen to a friens of mine that wanted to flash unleashthebeast...and he changed his mine after and i odin one clicked and it did the same...luckily he was under 30 days...but only other option is a jig.

oh and if u can get into download mode your good....if not...a jig
Seriously?
The only way to recover this phone is to make some crazy usb solder jiggy?
My phone shows only ATT or if USB is plugged in, a battery icon. No button combo is working for DL mode, where as it was before.
Any ideas on how else I could get this phone into dl mode?
Thanks again
Chris
Looks like you and I have a similar issue. Subbing to thread for hope.
What about using the AIO toolkit to at least get a working ATT branded phone? I too used the AIO toolkit to flash a custom rom on my Rogers phone and yes, though I don't believe it was supposed to the AIO toolkit put the ATT stock on rather than Rogers stock. However, at least you'd have a working phone at that point. Unless you need to return your phone you can use it as is until you find a proper solution.
I know it's a stopgap solution but working improperly is better than not working at all.

Built a jig this morning, phone went into download mode with a quickness. .99cents at radio shack some duct tape, and a steady hand.

ATT bootscreen problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11327700&postcount=209
in case some of those guys confused you, a jig only helps you if you cant get into download mode. you already flashed successfully after the brick, right? you dont need a jig. follow the instuctions above.
if you get AIO toolkit working (rogers edition) DONT USE A PIT FILE, DONT RE-PARTITION, (pit file is for partitioning). the rogers stock images dont have dbdata to work after repartition. this is what screwed me the other day., and i was forced to use ODIN1 Click. and now have the same ATT bootscreen as you.
as im in the same boat ive been researching and the above method wont work. its only for i9000 based roms. not the stock based roms like the att. and the fix replaces a file named logo_ATNT.jpg (AT&T)
this *fix* isnt too much of a *fix* and i have yet to come across a rogers flash that will replace this att crap.
So that means if we were to return our captivates for a refund, we're stuck with the split second AT&T boot logo. I wonder if they'll mind...
if your phone breaks to the point that you must return it, *MAKE SURE* its broken enough that they cant read/use the phone. Sticking it to the back of a speaker magnet for 10 minutes should do. ive heard of using a microwave fore a few seconds but it may do visible damage.
HI,
I am from INDIA, few months back I got a Samsung Captivate , Till now i tried FIREFLY and CM7 ROMs . The first time flash i did it with ODIN i guess i did it with a wrong firmware ,So was stuck with AT&T screen boot loop issue. Searching the forums and found JIG may help and so made a JIG (as i can't get one here) . and recovered my phone and flashed stock and then FIREFLY and 2 weeks back i flashed CM7 for getting Gingerbread and not likeing the UI of the ROM tried to switch back to stock and then customize on my own.
So When i tried flashing Stock the installation was success the screen stuck few moments on AT&T logo and i thought it would go off, But as i was very eager to get my phone online again i pulled of the battery to restart manually (Which i dont think was nice idea ) Now the screen remains black even i use the JIG to get into download mode. But the phone heats UP when i plug it for charging on computer or directly to switch
HELP NEEDED as i am very addicted to this PHONE
I have the same issue. I was tryint to load Cognition and it just gets stuck on the ATT screen but I haven't tried a jig yet. I was wondering if I can replace the files on the phone with good files that aren't corrupted and see if it boots up because droid explorere can still pick up the phone and so does Odin but when I do a master reset nothing happens.
@rajasekhar - Have you tried: Removing all parts (battery, sim, sd) let it sit for a few min (my preference is around 10 min to insure no residual power is left in the system) then hold the jig in place and putting the battery back in? Keeping the jig in place, so that as soon as the device gets power it is immediately seeing the jig, before it can try any other processes.
A bit difficult to do with hand made jigs I know. If you still getting nothing then your in for the worst and the phone need a JTAG or service center visit.
Tho it sounds a little odd that it could boot up to seeing the AT&T logo, but does not respond to the jig. Might even be a hardware problem.
@i3oots - Since you say your still getting PC response your safe to try and reflash it or just pick something different altogether. Tho you might wanna let ODIN settle and just sit there doing nothing for a few min, w/o then w/ the phone plugged in. Or learn about Heimdall and go that route.
Would I be able to flash it even though it get's stuck on the ATT screen? It won't go into download mode. I'll look on the forums how to flash it too. I'm a newb at this which is why I bricked it but everyone has to start somewhere lol.

You have probably Hard Bricked your phone. A JIG will not work to recover the phone. If the phone has any life at all, then the JIG will work. Else, u hard bricked it...you should never remove the usb cable when flashing bootloaders or odin or anything!
the only solution is to get a JTAG which can recover hard bricks OR you can go to a warranty store (don't know about india) and make up a sob story and have them replace it..

Does your computer recognize the phone? If odin is open, does the box turn yellow when you connect your phone? Make sure you have the right drivers. I think cm7 and captivate drivers are different. Keep trying with the jig. Just because you can't see anything on the screen doesn't mean the phone is dead.

If your phone is booting up far enough to send out USB info for ODIN and other PC programs to see it, then your still in a workable condition. This also means you can still get into download mode, but since things arn't working properly it will be harder. Depending on which bootloaders your phone has will direct which methods you'll have to try out to get into download mode.
AFTER you've had a chance to look around the forum and self-educate on the different ways of getting into download mode. If your still having problems give us a lil more info of what you were running before the flash and to which version of Cog you were trying to flash.
Did anything worked for you, if not only a jtag can help you looks like u hard bricked the phone.
Hi guys
@DaNarki : Yea i tried that method to .
Thanx for ur suggestions guys .I really squeezed through xda for all possible ways of unbricking but no use. SO thought JTAG was the only option. But wanna know more about JTAG???????
Went for a samsung service centre they said they wont handle other country products of samsung. Just yesterday went to the local Cell phone Repair store , He said like he would try using a Ctool box they have for installin onto the rom directly. So i thought why not Give a shot to it ...
That store guy raised another question in me . Yesterday after giving it in the morning he said to call in the evening . I did so and he said the Phone is booting on the Ctool but it is sometimes throwing error . I dint get his intention in saying so . have to go to him today
bricked maybe not

KEEP THE BUTTONS PRESSED.......now take the batt out of the phone.....keep them pressed......unplug your usb cable......keep them pressed.... restart odin...... keep them pressed....plug your usb cable back in.......keep them pressed... re-install the batt.....you should get download mode.......remember you have to keep them pressed... JUST... the volume up and down pressed through the whole process nothing else....This worked for me and I was dead bricked no nothing from any of the keys no nothing..... I DIDNT INVENT THIS METHOD I READ IT ON HERE SOMEWHERE AND CANT FIND IT AGAIN......It did work for me when nothing else did.....so if the person that posted it reads this THANK YOU...... ................................................. If you just wanna know a bit about the process ask this guy. He is pretty much the only person in the US (I know not all to useful to a person in India) that does JTAG for the cappy.
I can tell you this much, it requires a special device called a Riff box and it sends boot info directly to the chip on the main/mother board that is used for the booting process.
Somewhere I've seen a site that listed info of ppl around the world that will JTAG, but I can't seem to find it right now.

I had sent that phone back to att and the promptly sent it back and told me the water dammage sticker in the bat compartment was missing and they wanted to charge me 409 bucks for the phone ....long story short it was there when I sent it and I told them to go pound sand up their ass because I wasnt paying them that much and ended up paying 125 bucks for a paper weight. So that is when I decided to have it jtaged but figured I would give it one more shot before mailing it off. Forgot to mention
I Missed to explain my flashing procedure i have done this time . Like I never tried flash a boot file along and so was reading some threads about boot loader variations between FROYO and GINGERBREAD so i tried flashing ablong with boot loader and then I got the stock gingerbread file i put the boot loader SBL in heimdall Firstboot loader path .And Boom the first reboot got stuck and i removed the battery and then again when i tried to restart the phone is dead
Thinking this might have where the whole thing went wrong and made the cell dead .
Ok I have a stock KB2 Cappy. I used Odin to flash back to 2.1 KB1 JF6
Then I used Odin 3 to flash a kernel so I can put on CM7. I am now stuck in the Boot screen.
I have no 3 button, I cannot get into download mode (my jig is homemade should i order one?)
I tried to change usb and remove the sim card to try odin again to get back into stock.
Nothing seems to work the only thing is my jig is not good either for DL Mode. I want to get back to stock so any suggestions. I tried heimandall did not work either.
I am really stuck on this galaxy s I897 screen.
Is the jig soldered? If its not make sure you are connecting the correct pins and use some black tape or something to isolate your fingers from the resistors (might screw up the actual ohms making it to boot up normally and not in to dl mode.
The bootloop was expected, you are supposed to check that you have a working button combo both before you flash the kernel (because it will bootloop and you boot into recovery and flash whatever) and before you ever flash cm7 because that is the only way to get into download mode besides a jig on aosp roms.
so, fiddle around with your jig some more and if you get it in download mode just flash the captivate gingerbread bootloaders, that will fix your button combo and allow you to proceed flashing cm7.
Hi Guys,
I have a similar problem. I am a total noob-I've had my I896 cappy (Canadian Rogers based) for about a year now; i fiddled with it on Saturday and also got the bootloop. I freaked out, and managed to further flash (out of frustration and confusion) the cappy with another wrong ROM, the I900. I managed to get it back into DL mode and tried flashing stock eclair or 2.2 froyo via ODIN. For some reason, whenever I start the flash (press start on Odin with the froyo 2.2 file on PDA), the progress fails at the factory section. I don't know much about jigs yet, but any tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Chord in the back of the PC directly attached to the motherboard NO EXTERNAL HUBS, right click on Odin run as admin.
Once you have it working READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE DOING, BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE TO YOUR PHONE
This is probably the easiest guide on how to make one. Layman Jig First one I did I butchered a pare car charger to make it. You can just grab one from MobileTechVideos.com for about $8.

From what I understand, a jig is an improvised connection that allows your phone to go into DL mode. What if my phone is still capable of going into DL mode? My apologies, as I am at work.
Im not sure what you mean with your question. What the jig does is give the signal for it to go to download mode as was intended by samsung. Same theory on how your phone knows its connected to your computer, or the wall or the car charger. Its by manipulating the current between 2 pins. Keep in mind your phone should always be capable of going in to download mode assuming the hardware is working and your bootloaders are in working order.
I believe I read it on a different website that as long as your phone can go into download mode, then it is only "soft-bricked," meaning it can still be recovered using ODIN. I don't know If I was misinformed or not. I guess my question is, since my phone is still able to go into download mode, but the flash is still failing, did I DL the wrong ROM, or was the copy of Froyo 2.2 I DL'd corrupt? If so, is there a reliable source/site where I can download Froyo or Eclair?
I hope that makes more sense.
Read my post after yours...

^What he said. If that fails could be a faulty cable.

You are correct, if you can get into download mode you are not bricked. Make sure you are using the usb cord that came with your phone, plugged directly into the back of your computer. Make sure your SIM card is out, you're logged in as an administrator, and that you start odin before you plug your phone in.
If it still doesn't work, try another computer and/or another cord.
Why do people say take sim out? Ive never taken it out and had no issues. Just curious.
That is a practice from way back in the winmo days, sometimes the flash would corrupt the Sim itself. Not the case anymore for the most part. I'm with you never take mine out either.
Thanks guys, I will try this at home; hopefully it works.

I say it because, while I've never had it screw up the SIM itself, I had a situation where I forgot to remove it and then couldn't get odin to complete a flash on several attempts, resulting in a soft brick that I couldn't flash out of. As soon as I removed the sim, Odin flashed without an issue.
Coincidence? Maybe, although I didn't change anything else. If it possibly keeps me from repeating this terrifying event, though, I'll just keep doing it

Did you get a red "FAIL" message on ODIN? Because thats what I got several times. My buddy also tried and he got the same thing. The green progress bar completes up till about 80 percent and gives up on me. I'll try taking out the SD and SIM cards when I get home, hopefully it works.
Hi guys, little update:
I found this on the forums and used it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Anyways, this worked after my second try. Interestingly enough, it worked once i removed the Sim card, which is what apbthe3 suggested..great! I'm just glad my phone is no longer bricked. Minor issue though, my phone is now an AT&T phone, but unfortunately, I am a Canadian Samsung user. New problem now. My phone is no longer rooted (never was actually, but was bricked in the process), I'm happy it works, but i need to know if there are any Canadians out there that know how to revert my device back to Rogers.
Any help would be great. Anyways, the link I provided works great, so its a great resource for our American friends.
Why don't you look at Cognition 4.x.x? Froyo stock ish looking rom tweaked out the ass very fast. Good rom.
Look in development. There are a couple of threads there just for Rogers users.
OK, here is my story with my Galaxy Note brick. Though I never tried custom ROMs after upgrading to ICS but rooted with temp CWM & superSU. All seem to be working ok. One fine day I did a factory reset, booting failed, Stock ROM with PC ODIN stuck at FACTORYFS. Then comes XDA with a solution to use a patched PIT file.
Vola, my phone was up and running with ICS but missing 3GB space. It wouldn't have bothered me had the phone been stable. It used to freeze 2-3 times a day especially while downloading from Google play. Digging further in XDA forums for a fix cleared about eMMC bug and and no way returning back to normal So I ran to SSC with a factory reset phone hoping they will replace mobo, as it failed to boot and stuck at Samsung logo. Told them that Kies update to ICS 4.0.4 caused the problem. But couple of hours later, I got my phone back but with 8.24GB space & ICS 4.0.4
Now, I needed a fool proof way of bricking but couldn't go for pulling out battery half way through stock flash ROM. Thought it would be tricky to explain what I was upgrading when I've already got the latest stock ROM just a day ago from SSC. hmmm... then I got hold of stock PIT file... flashed it. And now perfectly stuck at home screen. No recovery menu but only download mode.
Next visit to SSC within 24hours and a simple story line with a sad face.... "Installed many apps, caused force close. So I did a Factory reset. And the phone does not boot now". It was stuck on the very first screen.
Finally it is gone for mobo replacement and expected to be ready in 2 days - covered under warranty Now coming to my question part, "What are the quick essentials checks to be done before accepting my phone from SSC" I really wish that it is all fixed properly and I do not want to visit a service center again

Be in safe kernel if your on ics. You could check your device of the bug by downloading eMMC check in google play. Dont put your fate in that if your on stock ics rom not rooted you will not get the bug, be on the safe side.

Just check the service job sheet whether they replaced the mobo or not before taking the delivery ? As simple As that.
got my gnote back with new mobo
Well, it is almost like the 'law of attraction'... I didn't want any problem and when I got my gnote today... guess what ? phone vibration didn't work. I had to go back to the SSC.
Fortunately, they responded immediately and the SSC guy fixed it on the spot without another round of formal servicing process. As explained to me, an insulation sticker of the vibrator was not removed while slipping in the new mobo. I didn't care less to understand if that is true as I was excited to get my phone with 11GB internal storage .
All seem to be working fine as of now with stock ICS 4.0.4 :good:
