Really no idea why it doesn't have this. It is so terrible in dark places. I was with some friends trying to take a picture of my friends at night. Every picture was blurred to **** because nothing was in focus. I tried to take like 10 pictures. My friend beside me with a GS3 only needed to take one picture because it does that flash-focus.

If there's a situation where the HTC One fails to focus cos of low light, I don't see how anything the S3 takes to be even usable, unless you mean flash-focus AND flash and not just flash-focus and take the image as is.

Basically HTC have cocked it up a little. They've assumed the sensor is more capable than it actually is.
The majority of phone cams will use the flash to light an extremely dark scene so that it can set the focus for when it triggers the flash full strength to take the picture.

LG Camera and Infinite focus works ok. Also in HTC camera app, if its completely dark room, just hold the button down to take pic til it clicks and then let go. First picture out when you load up the camera software should come out pretty well focused.
Secondly, if you're taking pictures in completely dark rooms, there's something wrong with you (I do this too, just waiting for an app to put a scary pic and a loud sound on resulting picture as a scary joke lol)

The One does this too, the flash lights up once before the picture is taken to focus, then turns off, then flashes, unfortunately the software is buggy and it's not always focused.

well i was at a concert, with some buddies, and the place was dark, dark enough were the camera could not see. i tried to shoot a pic of my buddies and every single pic came out blurry, it was really embarrassing, a brand new 500 dollar phone cant take a pic in a dark room.:crying: lol
I'm having the exact same problems. Photos during the day are amazing, but in dark areas it's a major problem!
My SGS3 went "flllaasshhhh" (while focusing), then "flash" again when it actually took the picture.
My HTC One does not do that initial "flllaasshhhh" while it focuses. It only flashes when it takes the picture, and 95% of the time the resulting picture is blurry.
See FULL size example here: http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/1126/a8lg.jpg
:silly:
The attached image is re-sized .... loses the blurriness.

Hi All
This may be a noob question, but ive noticed this with my camera. As you can see on image 1010, its focus is on the sky, but then if i move it a few degrees down (1011) its focus is on the man across from me. These images have done this without me touching to focus or anything.
Is there a way i can get my camera to take a decent shot of both the sky and whatever is infront of me? without having to compromise a certain part of the image.
I took a lot of photos twice today in order to get both parts of the photo in good focus.
Im using:
Stock camera app
Project X v4
There is no Q+A sectin, so ive posted this here, it can be deleted once ive figured out this little annoyance.
Any information regarding this, work arounds, or why it does it would be great. Also, is this the case on all roms?

i think its just autofocus that does it. you will realise once you move the phone it comes up with the focus square
But surely there's a way to make it so it doesn't block out a section of the image just because it feels like it ?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk 2
Pretty sire it can't focus on two things at once
The focus/lighting are related, so if you've focused on the man, the lighting will adjust so you can see the man and not the sky

I just purchased my new HTC one and I love it, it's a remarkable phone. However I have found something that seems rather odd. When using the front facing camera, if you are not centered in the field of view, you are distorted and stretched out. This could be an effect of the wide angle lens, but I am not sure. I just want to be sure I do not have a defective unit and should try to return it. I have attached two pictures, one with myself in the center of the shot, and the other with myself in the bottom of the shot showing the distortion I am talking about.
Thanks for your help!

Brave man. Putting pictures of yourself on the internet (even in the name of science). Pretty soon there's going to be the evanogrady meme generator.
Anyway mine does the exact same thing. I'm just not as secure as you to prove it with pictures.

Mine does the same thing, seems like the nature of wide-angle lenses. You have to get it as far away from you as possible and aim it dead center...
LOL, I was considering not posting the pictures, but felt like it was necessary to properly explain my point haha.
& I'm glad it's not just my unit doing this, I was watching videos of the front facing camera online and none of them had the level of distortion that my camera is showing!
Maybe a test image of a square grid would be useful

Good idea! This is the best I could do, a little awkward trying to take the shot with the front!

Ok.. If it is me, i apologize..
But my htc one takes awesome photos outside in natural sunlight... Dope!.. However... Inside pics in regular room lighting is terrible...really terrible.. Terrible to the point that i am praying it is a known issue! I love this phone, and do not want to return it within my 14 days at tmobile, but if there is no workaround or known update for the camera coming soon i might have to...
Is 4.2.2 suppose to fix this? Samples are coming...
Low light photography is what the one is actually renowned for

Hey guys, I have problem with photos at night,or dark conditions. They all are blurry. I mean, I have Galaxy S4 ,S3 ,Note 2 and when is night, tap on the screen means, light on camera turn on and object at dark is focused. While HTC One cant do it. Tap on the screen at dark does nothing and photo is blurry. Is there any solution how can I do perfect photos like Galaxy series? I also tried Camera FX ,but its the same. Still cant focus with light
Maybe is user error. Simple as just not doing it right. If not we need more info than that... Like come on how can I help you when all you say is "I'm a newbz and mah camera won't focus"?
Give me rom, kernel, camera app settings and maybe someone would be nice enough to help you.

All stock, not rooted.
Lol, this is not only my problem, but every user of HTC One get this problem. Im asking for solution. Just try that. Try taking picture at night, when on One is only black screen. How can U make a photo, which is not blurry? Tapping on the screen to focus is useless, cause it cant focus.. Its weird and sad. If I could do same as on the Galaxy, tap on the screen uses light and that means it will focus on objects at night, so U have great picture. But One, which has better picture at night cause of ultrapixles, cant do that?
Enough to know whats the problem?

Stock 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 because there has been quite a few updates that increases camera performance. Maybe some pictures could help.
If you are properly focusing on something after pressing your finger on the screen it should say "AE and AF locked".

So, I found on the internet same issue..Everybody got this problem, I think all HTC devices, but lot of people dont know about it..There was no software update which repair this..One guy got third part app, which using light-torch ,so it can focus in dark too..But he said its bit laggy, not as HTC's camera app:-/ He also tried different ROMs, nothing works..Shame on HTC..Dont understand why they cant do it like Samsung..
me too am having the same problem. am using vipers 5.2.1 and night pictures are just bad even with the powerful dual flash on the sensation

What do you mean exactly?
He probably means whenever you take a picture it flips it entirely upside down which is a bug in M which is the reason I reverted back to stock a week ago

Yes what imablackhat said is totally true. It flips the images upside down and if you have words the look flipped

Ah ok. It's not actually a bug at all. All cameras flip the image upside down. They always have, always will. Look at your reflection in a spoon. It's upside down. Thats because when light reflects off a concave surface, the light that bounces off the top of the spoon bounces into the bottom of your eye. Similarly the light that bounces off the bottom of the spoon bounces into the top of your eye, flipping the image. The same is true of a camera lens. The light passes through, out the concaved side and onto the opposite top or bottom edge of the sensor. What the processing software then does is has to flip the image back to make it appear the right way round.
The issue here is that those third party apps have not yet been updated to do that on M. This usually happens when a new version of android is released.
None-the-less, the result is the same and will remain so until those apps are updated.
Never had that happen on M.

Having problems with the 2.5 version on the m preview with taking HDR pictures fast, seems after the 3rd quick one I won't be allowed to take anymore until they are done processing, also had some crashes and lost some photos that I taken, got caught up in processing in the background then seemed to have disappeared altogether from the device

This isn't just happening on the M preview. I am on 5.1.1 (Chroma) and it happens. I think it's a problem Google needs to fix.

Version I have is 2.5.044, my N4 is on 2.5.050. The whole google camera has been disappointing honestly and I wish they would stop holding back on features and improvements, what's the problem already?
i did find a bug in the m camera. if using the flash, and you touch to focus on the screen, the camera will refocus right into the center and then take the shot.
M camera app was OK but camcorder needs work it was blurry
