HELP!! Galaxy N7000 Trouble Charging Problems - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi my GT-N7000 was giving me some problems with charging it was appearing as if it had been charging when in fact it was not taking charge at all. Now when i restarted the phone it is stuck in startup mode and does not go past the samsung logo. i was going to update or rather reinstall the software via Odin but cannot do so because the phone not connecting therefore the software cannot be reinstalled.
please is there anything i can do my phone cannot work beyonf the startup samsung logo
would really appreciate some expert advice. i don't know how to repair it all i know is software. any ideas and what could be wrong!!!

Try a different ROM if you can boot into recovery and if you're rooted. But there seems to be a problem with the USB port. I guess you'll have to clean it with alcohol strips or replace it soon.

I cant install any ROM because the data cable it not connecting at all
i tried cleaning the port already
rite now i opened the phone and looking at the charging port board right now
feel i may have to change that hope the motherboard isnt damaged
I'm seeing where i can get the charging port but do u know where i can source the motherboard if necessary just weighing my options right now
thanx a lot tho

You can buy the stuff on ebay. And i guess the replacement of USB port will do it, don't change motherboard or other stuff. And mate don't say thanks, click it!!!

my daughter's Note 7000 was not charging properly, it cost me GB£4.00 for the small circuit board which has the USB connector on it, and it was very easy to replace it, as shown in this video which I found on youtube:

Recently I paid nearly USD 80,00 for doing the same repair. Sadly, Android shows the device as charging, but in truth it's not charging at all.

[Q] usb not working on SGS Captivate, just for charging

Alright, I tried first with the stock rom: different usb cables, kies, installing uninstalling samsung drivers, double twist, on a mac and on windows 7, and nothing works, no matter what I tried, none of that could show me the notification bar asking for what to do with the usb connection. Of course I tried setting the phone on debugging mode and on mass storage, also ask everytime, etc.
Finally I decided to leave the stock rom and move to Cognition froyo, in order to discard a hardware issue. Thanks to Rom manager I could make it without needing the usb at all.
Once in Cognition v2.3b8 I crossed my fingers and looked to the sky (even considering that I'm atheist) and plug in the usb to my computer.... and nothing happens besides the phone charging.
Can I say right now that this is definitely a hardware issue?
Some people here are use to say, "if it's charging, definitely it's a drivers issue", but after moving to a new rom, and trying in three computers (two windows and one mac) it is a drivers issue that I can fix without buying a captivates motherboard?
Please help me out here and I'll buy you a beer, a blue moon one if you like ;P
Have you played with your USB settings; debugging, mounting SD card etc?

I'm pretty sure there's a problem with your USB cable if it's not the drivers. Try using a different cable and check.. Should work!
I am having the same issue and I took it to AT&T device warranty center and they found that the USB side on the phone had some water corrosion in it and therefore my warranty is voided. I also went down the path of installing drivers, different OS but this seems to be close. now If some can tell me how to clean this port...awesome
Is the water sensitive patch under the battery still white?

First make sure its not the usb cable. Main power leads in cable usually hold up but smaller wire leads are much more fragile and the only symptom you may get is either wont be recognized and/or usb registers as data connection on the dropdown menu. Ive had a captivate with a corrosion problem but Ive also had a Samsung cable that had broken shorted out data lead but still charged fine.
You can clean port with fingernail emery board cut to shape and stripped on one side of board to proper thickness. Its a five minute mod to a 99 cent board.

I've seen long threads of people who reported the same issue: no actual water damage, but a messed up USB port and their warranties being unjustly denied. Try cleaning the contacts in the phone's microUSB port with a coffee filter dabbed in rubbing alcohol, or scratching at them with a thin wire.
I'm currently having USB port issues with my brand new replacement Captivate (phone sometimes randomly thinks it's plugged in when it isn't, thinks it isn't plugged in when it is), haven't had any luck fixing them yet.
If there's no visual residue on the charging port, they cannot rightfully void your warranty. The captivate has 2 LDI's(Liquid Damage Indicators), one on the battery and one on the phone itself, behind the battery. As long as those two are white, and as long as there isn't a bunch of green crap on the charging port, they will replace it.
I work at AT&T, and we deal with this everrrrrrrrry day. 3 big rules with warranty swaps; LDI's need to be white, charging ports need to be intact and not corroded, and there needs to be no physical damage, any scratches or dings that you can feel with a fingernail are considered physical damage. We help people who terlet their phones get warranty exchanges sometimes, nothing an exacto knife and some raw effort can't fix. AT&T is a weak beast, be assertive and they will bend to your will.
In all honesty though, just make the charging port as clean as you can and call in. Ask for a supervisor, tell them it's a documented defect with a recent wave of Captivates, and you won't hang up until they exchange it for you.
well thanks for the help, now I'm gonna check the white indicators and if the phones usb needs to be clean

I had that problem with my brand-new second Captivate out of the box. Not going to deal with warranty and bull**** water damage accusations, this is being returned to the retailer first chance I get.
I've had something weird happen as well. I've had my Captivate plugged into my PC using USB Debugging at least 10 - 15 times today. I also clicked "Mount" so I could transfer files that I have backed up.
Now suddenly it stopped working. I have jumped around using every port on my laptop (all 4). I have noticed it's acted weird before.
But now (without anything plugged in at all) the laptop keeps popping up saying USB Device Not Recognized.....even though I'm not trying to plug anything in.
Should I reinstall the Samsung 32 bit drivers? I did uninstall Kies today because I had no use for it. It was annoying to have Kies open every time I plugged in.
I have a captivate lying around which have the same problem, i/e the USB cable works fine for charging but not for PC connectivity.
Since it is a development phone, I just reverted to using adb wireless widget.
Other than that, after reading this thread, it seems to be a common issue.
I got my phone exchanged (again) and no USB or GPS problems this time. I got a grainier-looking screen though...meh can't complain really, since this is the only Captivate I've owned that doesn't have any major/hardware-related problems.
My USB not working ended up being my laptop (not phone). I had to unplug the power supply....shut down for a few minutes.....reboot and it worked. I had tried reinstalling the drivers but it did nothing.

I appreciate the advice use some acetone to remove the green stuff but phone is still being difficult when trying to connect to the pc ...be nice if samsung came up with something so there wouldnt be a possibility that water would get in the port
I've had this problem since i got my phone, and i've had it for months now.
Always thought it was drivers.
My last try was with the new AIO captivate tool box app and the drivers their.
For those of you that got replacements how did you go about this.
just go to the store? Or is there a number to call to do it over the phone?
It's just annoying not being able to transfer pictures and such off my phone, hell it worked with my iPhone. I know you can setup wifi file transfers, but if i'm at a friends house it would be nice just to be able to plugin the phone and transfer files too it.
I fixed this problem selling out the phone. Not joke.
BUT, thing is, that the buyer, couple days after the purchase, told me that he fixed this issue by simply restoring the phone to the stock rom through odin 1 click.
Why I didn't try that easy fix? Simply because I thought that the phone was already in the stock rom :S
Lesson learned: always double check if you're in stock rom or not. (obviously you don't need to do this if your purchased the phone brand new!)
It's really weird, a week ago my phone suddenly freezing while I was out, I took the battery off and put it back but it was stucking on AT&T logo scree. I've tried that for few times nothing changed, put it away and the next day tried for few more times and this time came up (also recovery mode and 3 buttons didn't work too).
Everything was look fine but had a problem it was when I plug the USB cable it's just showing the charge status, means couldn't connect the Phone to PC ,I tried with some other cables and PCs, also put hair dryer if possibly water went in but the problem was from the phone.. also when took the USB off the charging status was keep going. first thing I thought it would be the ROM, I had some other ROM in the memory to I flashed to another ROM, but the problem was still there.
tried many times nothing changed, I was almost wanted to grab a new one, till 2 nights ago after a week while it was charging I suddenly noticed that it can connected, I straight away got backups copied to PC and flashed to Stock, now everything looks fine after few days and it works good.
any suggestion on that? is it could be water inside or something?
My ROM was Cognition 2.3 at that time
hope it's not gonna happens again.
I had the same problem and it was a bad USB port any phones made before December '10 have had a lot of problems. Warranty gave me a replacement without question.

Mini froze, now it wont respond...

Hello, my situation is this: S3 Mini running Carbon Rom 4.4.4 , flashed with TWRP. After running great for a few weeks, suddenly after charging all night the phone froze ( was on FB on CM Browser). It was totally unresponsive to any attempts so I pulled the battery ( this did happen a couple times before) and when I tried to restart, nothing. The phone responds to nothing, no download, no recovery, no charger.... battery is charged and I did try a different battery to no avail. The only response I get is if it is connected to a PC before I install the battery then when I install it (the battery) the PC tries to install u8500 usb rom drivers, which of course it never finds. Samsung device drivers are installed on the PC. Odin also fails to see it.
Is it dead? Is it salvageable? Can I recover any data off it?
Sorry for the new thread but it seemed I could not find a case exactly like mine.

I had the same issue after flashing a wrong bootloader. I gave the phone back where I bought it telling that I doesn't know why he didn't started anymore. They replaced my telephone motherboard and now it works.

There's no warranty on my device so taking it back is not an option. The phone was working fine for while so I suppose it's not the bootloader... what suprised me is that it happened outta the blue, not during start up... thanks for the advice though mate.

I think you can try with an usb jig or you can find someone with a jtag (there are millions of guides about those solutions, just google it). :good:

basically from what I've read, the jig you either buy off Ebay for 3$ or solder 300kΩ across pins 4 and 5 of a micro usb connector, But look it up before cause a nuclear holocaust

Honestly, I didnt think the jig would work, which is why Im not in much haste to do it, before you dump it though mate, try and find someone close to you with a JTAG setup.... I havent had much luck with that.
It was an ok phone... either I had high expectations or it was below the hype but that is just my 2 cents... at the end of the day it was a useful tool....

Fast Charging Only Works Wirelessly

After searching related posts, I still haven't found a solution to my problem.
- I have tried several 2.0 quick chargers and cables that all previously provided fast charging for my Note 5, but I'm still only getting regular cable charging.
- Tried unplugging and plugging immediately
- Tried soft reset
- Tried wiping cache
I don't know why fast charging suddenly stopped working. Wireless fast charging still works 100% of the time. Any suggestions?

Try using Odin to reflash the entire firmware. If this doesn't help then you will have to have Samsung send you another phone and they will as long as it's not over a year. You can download the firmware from sammobile and other places and then use Odin on Windows to flash but be sure to enable oem unlock in developer settings.
Before trying all of this toggle the fast charge off and back on again and reboot then see if it works
Thanks for the reply. The on/off toggle and restart didn't work.
There is something strange I notice when plugging in a charger sometimes. I get the notification for USB options. I feel like the fact that it's giving me the option to choose a media device, means that my phone is not recognizing the cable as a charging cable. Attached image.
Changing it to "charging" does not make a difference.

It's supposed to give you those options mine does that too. Try doing a full firmware reinstall and then if that doesn't work you really will have to ask Samsung for a replacement.
Well if its rooted .. Samsung won't. But you need to ask samsung for another charger.
Interesting that I see this post...I had exactly the same problem with a friends Note 5 ( SM-N920W8 ) he bought from a guy he found online met in person, and had the exact same issue.
I thought it might be the rapid charger, but it wasn't that at all.
He ended up selling that Note 5, and bought a brand spanking new sealed 920W8, and it now works perfectly fine.
I should also note that his N5 had a nice mark on the lower left side, which to me, it definitely has been dropped, I think it has something to do with it.
Hope this helps.
Well I tried reflashing the stock firmware with no luck. And I ultimately did a full restore, but that didn't work either. Can't take it to Samsung because Knox is tripped.
It must be a hardware issue at this point. Maybe the charging port on the phone needs to be replaced?
I'm having this issue too.. tried the same things you did.. I did called Samsung and it asked me to make a factory reset. But I don't want to do that... Mine is not rooted and I don't want to restore my apps manually... Did you tried factory reset?
I'm googling for 3 days and I guess it's a software issue... I use several usb chargers, I guess you too... and one of the times it detected the charger as a computer... I think it messed up everything....
I bought mine in Hong Kong so no warranty in my country... don't know what to do, but if you could try the factory reset I'll be interested to know if it worked.
EDITED: only now I saw you did the factory reset... sad it didn't work.... I head of people that used air machine to clean the micro usb slot.... they had some luck.. I didnt...

Samsung really isn't going to give a crap that Knox is tripped because they even send "certified replacements" with Knox tripped.

Slight drop. Yes... for sure... I use a plastic cover and glass protector, but I already let it fall from my pocket once or twice... It does not have a single mark on the device thought...
Things I suspect more, once I download a windows exe program that used ADB to debloat the device... did not function but I had to reset the device.... and as I said, I use multiple chargers, even a chinese powerpack cover that once was detected as a PC... very strange....
The fast charging is not a must for me... as I charge it during the night, but it sure is a hell of help when I have to use a lot of camera or GPS....

Factory reset didn't work. Cleaning the port with alcohol, cutip/small object, and canned air didn't work. I have dropped the phone, but nothing significant. Everyone has (probably). Should be no water damage.
I also used to think it was something software related. As you said xnes, I also suddenly started getting the notification for USB options when plugging a cable in (thinks it's a PC). I didn't used to get that before when fast charging worked properly. Since you're experiencing this too, I'm going back to a possible software issue. I never connected and pushed anything to my phone via ADB though.
I was gonna just replace the charging port, but after looking at the DIY video, I'm not about to remove the screen (and potentially breaking it) to replace this port, which may or may not even fix it.
Hmmm.. I don't know.

Did you try to at least re-odin the firmware as I suggested using the guide here..

Use your own firmware though.. if this doesn't work then it's not a software issue.

No sir, your Knox will be fine just follow the instructions and use the correct firmware for your phone.
Can you believe this? I've been in contact with Samsung support and they've confirmed that my phone is under warranty. So I send the phone out to them, and they send it back saying:
"We have performed a thorough examination of your device, and it has been determined that the unit is beyond economical repair. The unrepaired device has been returned to you."
So much for having warranty huh? So furious with Samsung on this. Won't even fix their faulty charger! Now I have to restore my phone again for the 14725625th time.

Moisture detected in USB port

Hi,
Since yesterday my phone tells me that it has detected moisture in the USB port.
My phone wasn't in contact with water or other fluids and the air moisture isn't also that high.
My USB cables were all dry, I've tested 5 cables.
What did I also do trying to fix it:
- cleaned the port
- waited one night
- wiped cache
- stopped and cleared data of Android-System and USB-Settings
- multiple restarts, with and without Magisk
- tried different cables and chargers
- used a hair dryer with low temperature to blow it dry
Nothing fixed this. Maybe the sensor has a malfunction?
I'm currently in my holidays and don't have a wireless charger, maybe I can buy one later today, but I'm not sure.
Does anyone know other work arounds?
Regards,
Jannomag
When did you get the message? Mine will only get the message when connecting a USB C dongle. And my DEX and HDMI output was disabled too. Had it fixed by motherboard change under warranty repair.
I've never had this issue since yesterday and it just came up after I connected it to my cars USB charger. My wife's P20 had no issues with the same charger and cable directly after I disconnected my phone.
And today, I took my phone after I woke up and got this message. The phone wasn't connected overnight.
Now I'm outside, it's cold and rainy and the message is gone since 15 minutes. I bet, it will be back soon.

I suspect I damaged mine when connected to my friend's chinese USB C dongle
if your message never goes away then you should bring your phone for warranty repair. Good luck
Since yesterday I've got no message, but things can always change.
It happens to me too and I never connect it to Chinese USB always Samsung cable
I got this on my s8+. There is a file thats need to be removed then its resets. Dont know where long time ago something with battery
I wanted to update my phone via USB because of root...but now, my USB port charges only.
My PC's don't recognize the phone, tried with my desktop and laptop, Win10 and Ubuntu 19.04, original and non original cable...nothing worked.
I bet it has something to do with the moisture detection - either it got damaged by moisture (which shouldn't happen with IP65) or there's a different issue which caused a daily moisture detection...
Short Update for future visitors:
I sent my S10 to a repair workshop, they wanted me to pay 400€ for changing the motherboard because the USB was faulty.
I let them send the phone unrepaired back to me. After this I found a guy in a German Android forum who repairs phones for a living and send the phone to him.
He found the issue which causing the USB not working. There were some cold soldering joints on some ICs in the bottom area of the Mainboard best the USB. He reflowed everything and got it to work again. I payed much less than 400€ for this and wanted to share this to you.
So, Samsung built the phone like a disposable cell phone and the repair shops aren't able or willing to put some work in it against Samsung's policy. They want more money for you for replacing the whole Mainboard even if it's not really needed.
This isn't just a fraud against the customers, it's also not really sustained and environmental friendly to dispose a fully working mainboard with just one faulty part.

Could you provide a way to contact that guy? Just in case someone needs a repair like that. I think sometimes the best way to repair our phones is taking them to an electronics repair shop. Samsung repair services are not ready for soldering or micro-soldering
I can't and I don't want to ask him.
But I think there are guys who can repair like this are present everywhere, it's just hard to find them.
This is why I posted the solution he shared with me here.

Then I don't believe it. You've given some off the wall info and can't back it up. If he's in that business I'd think he would be glad for the reference. Yet you make no effort to really help anyone other than to tell them to do a search that even you admit is "hard to find". Is this some secret forum that requires a secret handshake to access? I'll just say BS and move on.
That's very rude, you know?
It's because he's not active here at xda but I can share the German Facebook post he made about my phone, since it's public:

My intention wasn't to share the guys address. It's not magic to repair a phone and with this information every good repairshop with good instruments should be able to repair or find such an issue.

========================================
My rog phone 3 (tencent), which i brought about 6 months ago. I never had any issues like this.
The other day i opened my camera and suddenly the front camera was not working. I restarted the phone, did factory reset, cleared camera data, but nothing solved the issue. I thought i have to upgrade the firmware. So i downloaded the new firmware (2012.143) and connected the usb c cable with my laptop ( lenovo ideapad 320) , but it did not recognize. i tried both ports. I never had this problem before. I unlocked the bootloader, i thought it might help. I also turned on the developer option and selected FTP protocol and USB debugging. But it still didn't connect. while i was trying to enter bootloader recovery mode I accidently put the phone on EDL mode and now its bricked . The indicator light is flashing when i connect to the pc but the PC isn't recognizing the port ( i downloaded the qualcomm EDL driver on my laptop also, but the port option is not showing at all). Is it hardware problem, But the phone was charging just fine.
please suggest some help
Sounds like a hardware malfunction or damage to something on the board (burnt out microchip or resistor something along those lines) something a cell phone or repair shop could have fixed but.. it sounds like you bricked it in combination with the other issue which your best bet now is a new rog phone and sell your current one for parts or repair.. just because the cost to repair it would probably be more than what it is worth as it would require professional repair.

Bro my phone turned on, and it functioned normally, i didn't brick it, it was probably battery dead, i charged it for hours and it turned on.. But how do you fix a power IC that supply power from the battery . Is it the one in the (picture) , Because sometimes when it charge it gives only the green light and black screen.
Iam having an issue on debug. My bottom side is ok on getting debugged.. but my side port tends only to go in charging state.. mine not rooted or anything. Im just trying to downgrade firmware. any advise?
