Why did you relock it?

You need to restore a stock ruu or it won't boot, you can unlock it, flash a complete stock package and relock.

The better way if you want to come back to RUU it's to use the simple way via fastboot. It's really easy.
But first you need to know and find the good RUU for your One.
I invite you to read and use this guide, I think that you will find exactly what you need.
[GUIDE] Download HTC One M7 RUU - Restore back STOCK
But you need to find the good version of the RUU for your device.

Thank you all
Keeping searching and with your help i found the way to turn around the problem getting an stock RUU on which now i cannot delete the apps i do not like but will keep trying till i will do!

well, after getting back to stock you can always repeat the same steps to gain root access again ---> remove whatever apps you don't like

[Q] How to restore an unlocked, rooted, flashed phone back to stock?

Hi everyone, I am a new android user so I could use a little help!
I got my black HTC One sim-free version from Amazon UK, and have had a lot of fun using and learning about android. However I need to return the phone back to amazon, and am worried they won't take it due to the modifications now.
I unlocked my bootloader, rooted by installing SuperUser, installed CWM recovery and then flashed Trickdroid 5.2.1.
It's all working but I'm not really sure how I managed to get to this point as I just used Hasoon2000's excellent toolkit, with some more help from Torxx' tutorial (the AIO app came up with some errors after unlocking the bootloader). Foolishly I didn't make a backup of the original/stock rom or recovery either...
Can I just flash the Odexed version of the stock rom and associated recovery.img can I restore the phone back to stock? And what would be the order of doing that, and the commands I need to issue?
Thanks in advance.
have a look here might help you out

I am assuming what the did is what I need to do, however their instructions aren't clear enough for me!
Can anyone break down what commands are needed either with the command prompt and fastboot?
Or how to use the All in One app, and in what order?
Thanks!

Both post doesn't tell you how to put your rooted HTC One back to stock, It actually shows you how to unlock boot loader and root your phone.
been a while since ive used android, but I always remember having to flash the RUU and unroot
If you have a nandroid backup, can't you flash back to stock with that?

Unfortunately I didn't make a backup...
I too have this same problem and am yet to find a difinitive solution
Relock the bootloader then flash the appropriate RUU
the installation will fail if the CID don't match
Use this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35975359&postcount=3
Edit: You can also search the HTC One X Forums, the step-by-step manuals should work the same way (of course you have to use the One drivers and appropiate RUUs/Nandroid backups). When I reverted my old HOX back to stock to sell it I had to take a nandroid backup because I had a O2-branded HOX and O2 never released the appropiate RUU for Jelly Bean.
Edit 2: Link from HOX Forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714
And here are the Links for RUU/Nandroid Collection for the One: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39588860&postcount=1
Of course you have to use the appropiate One files (check CID)!

Installing updates on stock rom with unlocked bootloader and root

So, not 12 hours after getting my HTC one a few months ago, I unlocked the bootloader and rooted. I used this method: http://dottech.org/103429/how-to-ro...ader-and-install-clockworkmod-recovery-guide/
I knew I wouldn't get OTA updates, but figured I could flash updates via stock recovery. Apparently I can't. I get an error every time, so essentially I have no options to update. I have also noticed that there are a few little bugs that are quite annoying. So, my question is: Has anyone managed to either unroot and relock the bootloader in order to install updates? Or is there a method I can use to update my One with the latest HTC provided update? I made no changes to the phone aside from unlocking the bootloader and rooting. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this phone, but as we all know, having the latest update is a huge part of why we make changes to our phone. And with the 4.2.2 update arriving soon, I would really like to have an option of keeping my One always up to date.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes, after tampering the phone and even flashing the stock recovery gives a red triangle suring flashing ota updates.... I spent 2 days on it...
Get s off.... Flash the appropriate RUU for your phone, and let the OTA install itself by checking software updates in setting- about....
This will definitely work....

Thanks Mathrania, but if you don't mind I have a few questions. 1. Is there any way to get s-off without using an adb shell? If so, can you point me to a link that has the instructions? 2. Where do I find the RUU for m7ul? No idea where to get that. I assume once i find it I can flash it using recovery? Your help appreciated man.

Yes there is, a saw somewhere... But i need to find it.... The title of the thread is s off without pc or something like that.... But i am outside rightnow.. Once i reach my place, i can point that out.... And why not abd????
Also, do fastboot getvar all, and post the screenshot here, just remove ur IMEI and serial from there(blackout that)... I will tell u about ur ruu too.

Ok, I managed to get s-off using terminal emulator. Much easier. Now, I just gotta find the RUU. To be honest, I am not sure how to do the fastboot getvar all or what you need in a screenshot. Let me know and I'll provide it.

Boot into bootloader, connect usb cable, slect fastboot..... Now on ur PC, open the folder containing your fastboot files ( hope u have knowledge about that... You can find the fastboot files in the hasoon all in one toolkit as well.... In that folder, Shift + right click... Select open command window here...

yeah i noticed when i read firther down the post, i did mine teh same way, but adb isnt all that bad to be honest, i used it to change the MID, looks daunting but as long as you do exactly was is in the guides it will be fine, no RUU for my version so had to make it something else
well my friend, i tried to find your original RUU, but what I am getting is the link to just an OTA...not the RUU which is required to revert you to stock...anyways..
Did you relock the bootloader??? Relock and try to flash the OTA ...it should work... you can do this while being s-off...no issues...
ALright, so I guess I need to relock the bootloader. I assume this will also mean unrooting? Not entirely sure what the easiest way to relock the bootloader is. Any suggestions?
Now, out of curiosity, is there a root method that I can use after updating that will allow me to continue getting updates without having to go through this every time?

While you are s-off, you can relock you bootloader via a simple command....and to be frank i dont remember it, but you can see that command in S-off Revone Thread...its very simple.....you will have to do that via terminal emulator as you are not an ADB guy ...also unrooting the phone, you can see some vidoe guides out there in the stickies...
but i am not sure, may be relocking itself will take away your root access... just try posting this question in the s-off thread to get an expert answer....
Alright! S-off, bootloader relocked. Gonna try the update. Wish me luck. And thanks so much for your help Math. I'll let everyone know how it went for future reference.

Dammit. Still no luck. I'm getting the same error I used to get even before all this when i try to install an OTA. At first it won't verify the signature, but when i push it via CMW anyway, it starts and hangs on "running bug_fix_1" and that's it. No go. So all, this for nothing. Any chance anyone's come across this issue and has a solution? I'd love to get the update. There are a few bugs that really piss me off.

OK, that makes sense. Sorry about the confusion. Not sure why I said stock recovery. Didn't even realize I did until you mentioned it. So, I'll try to flash stock rec and try again, otherwise, I'll just unroot and see if I can factory reset and start over. THanks again for your help.

[Q] Sprint HTC One Bricked

So, I was trying to put the Google Edition rom on my HTC One for Sprint. I had the right rom and everything. I noticed Wi-Fi wasn't working so I took it off and tried to go back to stock and then I noticed that the version on my phone (1.31.651.2) was higher than the version on the RUU. I have no OS installed on my phone and every time I try to flash a rom, it tells me I'm unrooted. Then, when I'm prompted to install superuser, it just reboots. I am now stuck in bootloader and recovery. I have absolutely no clue what to do. I have S-on as well. Please help!
All I can think of is to use this stock ROM here based on the 1.31 firmware and use the adb flash method. But I'm not sure if that would work as flashing .img's from adb would require S-OFF. Then again I am a bit new here, and others with more experience could chip in and then I may learn from it as well.

Also after doing that you can follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390821 to use the 1.29 RUU if needed.
I just tried to use the program but it always says error: closed. Also, in recovery, it doesn't let me open sideload. It always fails. Again, whenever I try to flash a rom, it tells me I'm not rooted and it fails to install. There is really no RUU for version 1.31.651.2? I've been without my One for over a week :'( I'm going nuts lol

You need to s off. You get a lot more options for recovering from things like this. The thread is in one of the development forums here. Use moonshines method or download the all in one tool and use revone. It's really easy. Then you should be able to RUU back to stock and reroot.
I want to thank you guys for helping me first and foremost but I could not get revone on my phone and I couldn't do moonshine either. Moonshine ended in an error and revone requires root which somehow I don't have. I don't think there is any way I can get s-off

Dev Unlock http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/
Then Flash a recovery with this tool.

Try a rom like the following based on 1.31 and sideload with above tool.

If your still haveing trouble then thry to flash the 1.29 RUU

So I recently accidentally wiped my internal storage which pretty much bricked my phone. I was rooted with S=on and custom recovery. Sideloading would not work for me, tried using TWRP and Clockwork mod recovery. I was able to return to stock though using this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904. Worked like a charm, then I unlocked the bootloader again, flashed a custom recovery again and rooted again. I didn't see anyone else post the above thread, so I thought I would share in the hope that it helps.

Newbie to unlocking bootloader rooting and getting s-off

I have an HTC ONE on verizon.
I have been reading up on unlocking of the bootloader, rooting and achieving s-off, I have a few questions that I am hoping the XDA community can help with.
1.I am on 4.3 jellybean on my ONE will the new tool for HTC devices?
2. I just checked and the new software for the one 4.4 KitKat is out for my version of the one finally! My question is would the new tool still work if I took the 4.4 OTA update or would I loose the ability to use the new tool?
3. Also I know in this process some where that you loose everything on your phone, can someone recommend a method and/or an app to backup all of that stuff so that I do not loose it?
As for backing up your data, I'd suggest Helium. Since you're not rooyed, you will need a companion app on your computer.

anyone else ideas?
Noobies should not attempt to root or modify
Dont take the kk update and use firewater to unlock and get s-off. Once s-off flash a recovery and use it to backup the phone. Make sure to move the backup to your pc. Then reflash stock recovery and take the ota. Then reflash custom recovery and flash superuser with it. You would then be s-off stock rooted kitkat.
On the other hand, if you don't want S-Off (I doubt you need it), you should OTA-upgrade first to get the newest firmware for your device, then unlock and root. You should still be able to S-Off after that if you want.
If you go this route, you will lose all the contents of the phone. Helium (buggy as it is, it mostly works) a backup of SMS/call log/contacts (if they're not stored in a Google account), and a backup of /sdcard is approximately everything. Also take screenshots of what your desktop looks like, just in case you have a hard time getting that back.
You can take the ota first, it has been confirmed that firewater works on the new ota.

I agree. I doubt you will need S-OFF. You really only need it if the phone didn't allow flashing kernels, radios, and images with S-ON. But since you only need root with the HTC One, I'd suggest to stay away from S-OFF. A simple typo could brick your phone if I'm not mistaken.

I just Ulocked, rooted and S-offed my Freshly OTA updated to 4.4.2 One. No problems or issues.
I used :
HTCDEV to unlock
CWM for recovery and root
and FireWater to S-off
Had some hiccups along the way but nothing that came close to bricking it. Just had to change a few settings and permissions.

Had some hiccups along the way but nothing that came close to bricking it. Just had to change a few settings and permissions.

what would you recommend for backing up all of your stuff so you can restore it after all of this?

Unroot HTC Vivid

Hey Guys,
I got an HTC Vivid a while ago. However, when I got , I looked into the software unlock method to unlock it. Doing so required for the phone to first be rooted. So I followed through some steps to root it. WORST DECISION EVER ! Since then, not only did the unlock not work, but the phone has gotten so slow and dysfunctional it is barely useful. I mean, everything else runs properly, except Calls and Text Message. i.e The phone isn't performing its right function.
Thus, I wanted to look into a way to 'unroot it' or at least just return COMPLETELY to factory settings. I want to be at least able to sell it and buy another. I've looked through and tried a couple of guides to remove the root. One seemed to work really well, until I restarted the phone, where the "Cleanup" window came back on, and the phone returned to its old rooted self.
Thanks in advance for your help !
How did you root it...
What 'unlock' are you trying to accomplish?

I rooted using a method I saw here, which was supposed to be one of the steps to software unlock.
However, it is not already uncooked using the regular IMEI, which is completely different.
So, now I just want to unroot, and bring the phone back to factory, with those "Android is Upgrading...Optimizing applications" message at every boot up.
Anyone ?!
If you revert to stock ROM using ruu, you will be unroofed.

I tried that once...It didn't seem to work for me. Is there a particular method I need to follow?
Also, it seems the "Deodex' method for my rom was supposed to work?
Thank you in advance.

In not familiar with the "deodex" method, but I did fish out a guide for the ruu:

In the meantime, I'll look up the deodex method and come back to this post.

I have recently tried to revert my Velocity back to stock but ran into the same problem. Have relocked the device and tried to flash stock RUU but this didn't work. My device was s-on and I read in a post here that to be able to go back to stock RUU you need to be s-off. The part I haven't worked out yet is to be able to get s-off you have to be on stock RUU!

You DO NOT need to be s-off to be on stock ruu. Do you mind going through the steps you followed?

No, sorry ,I meant to say that you have to be on stock RUU to be able to achieve s-off. The guide that I followed was "The HTC Superguide " in the development section of this device. Firstly, I did a full wipe, as in Dalvic cache, Cache, System, Boot and Factory Data Reset, also SD card, then I relocked the device with "fastboot oem lock", after that I tried to run the stock RUU ( The one the phone was originally on ), which started the initial flash but stopped at about 10% and came up with " ERROR 140 ". I tried 4 or 5 times and even tried another computer with the same result.

I found this thread with people that had the same problem, but I'm not sure if it will help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828491&page=3
You could try flashing an old gingerbread ROM and then try the RUU, as it seems to have something to do with the rom on the phone being newer than the RUU or something.

I have tried flashing an old gingerbread rom ( 2.27.841.6 ) as well as the latest version I could find ( 3.25.841.4 ) but I keep getting "ERROR 140 WRONG BOOTLOADER" and it also says the current version is 3.44.841.3 which is why I can't upgrade because I'm really trying to downgrade. The update to 3.44.841.3 from 3.25.841.4 was only about 58Mb but I can't find that and I don't think it would be of much use.
I have also tried to s-off the device with a live Ubuntu 12.04 32bit CD using ControlBear instructions but hit a snag because the sudo ./ControlBear command does nothing. I think the permissions or password may be out of date. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
I made a PH39IMG.zip from the 3.25.841.4 and tried flashing that but got the Wrong Image message too.
