Guys tried rooting my phone, basically done the whole procedure and I couldnt dload anything from p store and when I tried my phone restarted, the same with setting the time. What exactly did I do wrong? I used that smart flash thing with the superuser zip. Or is this just how rooted phones work??
Ive gone back to flashing my phone, works fine all is good, im thinking about trying to root again but I need a clearer idea. Im working with gb 2.3.4.
If anybody has anything straightforward and reliable drop us a line.
Thanks in advance dudes.
First of all, install the LG USB drivers and restart your pc.
Try using smartflash with phone battery removed...this often helps.
Do data, cache, and dalvik wipes from cwm.
As soon as you boot into the flashed rom, do a factory reset from hidden menu.

No matter which software you're currently running you should have no problems.
Just make sure:
You should restart your PC after installing Drivers.
Remove Phone battery, Then access Software update Mode.
All the required files are in that post, just download everything, place superuser.zip in sd card, follow the instructions.
After flashing, the phone will automatically reboot into the Recovery menu.
in the recovery menu, select wipe Data/factory reset, then confirm.
after that, select Wipe Cache, and confirm.
Go to Advanced>Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Go back, Select Install Zip from SD Card>Choose zip from SD Card and Then Choose The Superuser.zip from the SD Card, THIS will root your phone.
Select Reboot System Now.
Let phone reboot, go to Dialer dial 3845#*970# and do factory reset.
Done!
This is as much detail as possible, Cant go anymore
Thanks dude.

Anyhow, do you know of any progs I can use to uninstall LG'S preinstalled apps, a debloater basically but for GingerBread.

Yeah, Read N00by's Noob how to once: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487105 its really detailed.
As for the Firmware, you can use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487105 firmware to root Posted by N00by.
To remove LG Bloatware, just use any uninstaller app from the Play store, But you WILL need root. so root your phone first, then Use Titanium Backup (recommended).

Hi,
Basically ive done the root, been a big help cheers. stopped and deleted a few things that I shouldn't have and needed to flash the phone twice lol. Im not touching any prog now unless i know 100% what it is.
1. if you know of any source i can refer to so that i can know what i can/can not delete it would help.
2. After the root, should i delete the superuser.zip from the memory card???
3. If you know of a good root prog i can download so i can uninstall unneeded progs let me know (cos basically i downloaded root app uninstall from play store and that was the reason i flashed the phone 2nd time, screen went black, cant trust it)
Let us know mate so i know what Im doing.
Thanks in advance.:good:
Search the apps and themes section, there was a thread for the List of safely removable apps. Also, all uninstalling apps will be the same, they will show you all apps, you have to choose the ones to uninstall.
You can delete the superuser.zip if you've flashed it.
ok

Hello all,
can someone please help me?
i have done the guide of rooting here "How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero" including backing up and save the nandroid file to pc.
i want to run the Fresh Rom and started to follow this thread from android forums.
androidforums.com/all-things-root-sprint-hero/38911-guide-root-rom-faq-tutorial.html
i ran the diagnostics fresh pre-kitchen 0.2 and got an error. all checked mark except java and sendkeys which i received a ? mark.
any help on why i get this?
thanks
Have you tried just flashing the rom? I spoke with someone who ran the diagnostic test and had question marks but he was still able to flash a rom. If you turn your phone off and hold the home button + the power button, you should get a black screen with green writing. If so, you are fine.
yes i do get that green screen.
so what should i do now? like how do i use the Fresh Rom
thanks
*edit..
not in the wiki clearly..
Pull the battery out... While holding your home key, Press power... Continue to hold home... Phone boots into recovery...
Scroll down to wipe... Wipe factory data, dalvik cache, wipe ext... Press back on phone..
Scroll to mount usb... And mount the sd to the computer..
On your computer... Navigate to where you downloaded the rom... Drag and Drop the entire folder onto the sd card...
Press home on your phone to get out of usb mode,
Scroll to flash zip from sd.. and select the rom zip..
It installs.. then reboot the phone..
Download the rom of your choice. Move the .zip onto the root (meaning dont put in any folders) of your SD Card. Turn phone off, hold home key + power button, select flash from sd, select the rom, hit the home key. Wait til it is finished and then reboot.
ok so i am downloading fresh 2.0b now.
no need to extract the file correct or should i extract it first before putting it on the sd card.

Nope it install from the zip.
Now that you are looking into roms be very very very careful.
You can only install roms for the CDMA. There are roms for gsm phones and people screw up and brick their phone that way.
If you stay in this forum then you should be OK unless some asshole comes around.

okay so I know this isn't exactly the best thread to post but I'm so overwelmed with info about this phone that I have no idea where to start! I figured I'd start by searching the market for Launcherpro but when I did that Launcherpro Plus won't show up. Can anybody PM on a good place to start or post in this thread? Thanks guys, also I'm thinking I may want to flash Cognition so what would I need to do in order to accomplish this? Thanks guys and sorry for the noob thread.
Start by making sure you can manually enter download mode with keys.
Turn your phone off.
Plug in USB.
Hold Vol Up and Down and Power all at once until the green battery disappears, then release power, but continue to hold Vol Up and Down. This should get you a yellow yield sign with an Android on it shoveling or something.
After that, just pull battery and power on like normal.
If that doesn't happen, then try again, or find better directions than mine until you are certain it won't work. This keeps you from bricking your phone any of the easy ways.
Okay so I can get into downloading mode with just the keys, is this good?
Very. It means that even if you totally screw your phone up so that it can't boot into the OS, you can just flash back to stock with ODIN and start over.
Next, if you are interested in trying ROMS out, you may want to check out Assonance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9513065&postcount=1
The directions are thorough and links are provided for just about everything. Use at own risk, and all that stuff; but if you were afraid to take tech risks, you wouldn't be here.
Thanks Dungeon, I appreciate the help!

ROM Manager is having trouble the last few days.
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9876490&postcount=3
Copy that update.zip (the whole zip, don't extract it) to your sdcard, then get into recovery mode (hold Vol Up, Vol Dn, Power until you see the white ATT World Phone logo) then use Vol keys to move to "reinstall packages", click Power to go. It will do some stuff. Do it one more time, and you should boot into CWR with root so you can flash.
Hi Dungeon47,
I forgot the reason why we need to install clockworkmod.
Thanks,
Neil
It gives you the advanced options while in recovery - helps you to install that custom ROM, or delete your battery stats, dalvik cache and even perform a factory reset/data wipe using that tool.

hey folks,
today, i changed the sim card of my galaxy to see if my new contract already has service. it did. but that is not the story. i changed the sim card back an booted the phone. unfortunately, i wrongfully plugged the sim in so that i had to turn it around. unpatiently, i removed the battery while android was already booted but the widgets and stuff weren't loaded yet. then turned the sim card, plugged the battery back in and now the phone doesn't start anymore. first i'm seeing the galaxy s gt-i9000logo. after that follows galaxy s and underneath cyanogenmod in letters. but the fancy animation of cyanogen doesn't start.
i am able to get into download mode but not into recovery (cwm). i'm on cyanogen mod 9 build 17 of teamhacksung (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363593).
any clues what happend to my phone and how to make it work like a charm again?
thanks!
First try cleaning cache and dalvik from recovery and boot else clear cache/dalvik and then re-install rom again.
how can i clean the cash and dalvik if i can't get to cwm?
If you have titanium back installed then there is an option to clear it from its menu.
well, i have titanium backup installed on my phone but how can i access it?? maybe you could give me a short guide?
I've had this a couple times, try holding down 3 button combo while you are charging the phone. If you manage to get into recovery i highly doubt clearing cache etc will help. If you're able to get into cwm you'll prob have to reflash rom otherwise use Odin :/..

First try to do a factory reset, its faster...
1-Turn off the phone.
2-Press "Vol-" and Power button
You'll be now in Android System Recovery (if everything its OK)
3-Select "wipe data/ factory reset, press power button to execute
4-You'll be in the next screen, you should choose "Yes -- delete all user data", press power buton again.
5-After the reset the menu will appear again, you just need to press the Power button once again to restart the phone.
If it doesn't works, than you need to re-flash.
Say how it goes and if you need just go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861854

you re-install the firmware (I suppose that you flash the phone...) and even like that you have problems?
You shouldn't, when we flash, we install everything from factory, soo, everything should work with any problems.
You didn't use any other method than the normal one to re-install the firmware?

The only advice that I can give you is, do the factory reset, flash the phone with the latest firmware (don't know from where you are... depending on that depends what version you can use) and now if you still have problems, you gonna need someone better than me, sorry...
When I boot looped I used adb android commander and pushed manually the framework/app folders..
Then format via recovery all was good then

you should flash new firmware via software update again.
Apparently i've changed my lockscreen password this morning which i'm sure i remembered the changed password but i could not access into my phone ever since. I've gone through the forum for the possible ways to resolve my issue but i couldn't find the best way to do it as some threads are most probably out of date.
I would still want my data to be kept therefore i did not perform the factory reset. The data i would like to maintain are my contacts and pictures.
My phone is unrooted, it's probably not usb debugged as well. I'm unsure of the firmware version of my phone too.
I did not try to root my phone yet because I am not sure what I'm doing and am not sure if i can actually root it when my lock screen is locked.
Please advise on how i can resolve the issue without losing my data. I do not mind having an option to copy my data out from the phone storage before resetting my phone though.
Thank you!

Ok, first of all You have to root Your phone with this file: http://adfoc.us/4207233512571
Put it on Your external sdcard, reboot Your phone into CWM (volume up+home+power) and flash it. Great, now You have root.
Since You don't have usb debugging enabled You will have to use aroma file manager.
Before running aroma file manager in CWM make sure You have data mounted. (mounts and storage->mount data).
If You have it installed go to: /data/system/ and delete such file as "gesture.key" and some other "*.key" files in case there are some others.
Ok, now You should be done. Reboot Your phone. If it won't boot You will have to flash good kernel, but I think this should work.
One more thing, reseting data won't delete Your pictures as they are stored on sdcard and contacts are probably synced to google account.
In case You had some questions or problems just ask me.
I'll answer as soon as possible. If You will need some faster help we could talk on Facebook or Skype.
There are too many ways to reset your lockscreen.. I will give you the easiest way (Make sure that you are using the way I will give for your own phone, not someone else phone, as we don't want to get in trouble..!!)
1. Download @Phil3759 custom recovery from here (the zip one).
2. Download [updater-script]_Remove_LockScreen_Security.zip from attachment in this thread here.
2. Put both zip files in sdcard
3. Reboot to recovery mode by pressing and holding Power button + Volume up + Home button simultaneously.
4. Once you are in recovery, flash Philz recovery.
5. Reboot to recovery mode again (press and hold Power button + Volume up + Home button).
6. You will be in Philz recovery now, just flash [updater-script]_Remove_LockScreen_Security.zip which will remove the lockscreen security.

There are too many ways to reset your lockscreen.. I will give you the easiest way (Make sure that you are using the way I will give for your own phone, not someone else phone, as we don't want to get in trouble..!!)
1. Download @Phil3759 custom recovery from here (the zip one).
2. Download [updater-script]_Remove_LockScreen_Security.zip from attachment in this thread here
