Hey there! I am like the biggest noob on XDA, but i really need help. I have rooted my Galaxy Ace GT-S5830D (File Provided if anyone is in need of it) and now I need help with getting ClockWork Recovery to work on it. I will also attach the .zip file that I used. I get a Status 7 Error.
I have done a lot of research on this topic, and found out that Status 7 Errors are because the recovery i was trying to flash is not 'compatible' with my S5830D. So this is where I need help. I need to find out what ClockWork Recovery I should use for my Galaxy Ace Gt-S5830D.
* Phone Info:
My phone is the : Galaxy Ace GT-S5830D
Android Version: 2.3.4
Phone Carrier: Koodo (My phone is unlocked though)
Region: Canada
Other Info: I had my phone previously rooted, and flashed ClockWork Recovery that was modified by my friend so I dont get Status 7 Errors. But I would keep getting messages like "Cant Open (file name)" or "Cant Mount (file name)" when i booted into recovery. I thought that was normal, and tried to flash a Custom Rom ( also modified by my friend), I dont really remember what it was called maybe like PAC or something. And so I bricked my phone.... Then recovered it by ODIN.
** What I am trying to achieve is to flash a custom ROM on my phone, because I dont really like the GingerBRead feel. I love the Ice Cream Sandwich feel. I have used launchers, such as Go Launcher, ADW Launcher, Holo Launcher, but they slow down my phone so much im getting really annoyed.
Any help is appreciated.

Status 7 Error Help!
Thanks for the quick reply! The problem is, this CWM file you gave me is exactly the same as I used. I got a Status 7 Error.
As stated before, I had CWM on my phone before. I achieved it by my friend modifying it.
Status 7 Errors occur because of whatever you are trying to flash goes through this process to check the phone's model or something.
This YouTube Titled: How To Fix Status 7 Error with CWM Recovery on Rooted Android!
The problem that occurred after my friend modifying the file was that, i get messages like "Cant Open (some file directory)" or Cant Mount (some file directory)".
Thanks for the help. But I need a fix for my phone, remember it isn't just the Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 but there is a D at the end. Hope someone can reply and help me.
Status 7 Fix??
Should I try to fix the error as shown in this thread?

well. I'm gonna explain my post... I think your SD-CARD is corrupted and your attached files too so format YOUR SD-CARD, NOT YOUR PHONE!! then download the files in the link I posted at first and try again!
Use an USB sd-card reader in order to format your sdcard
Right?
Is it worth it??

I'm glad!
Well to ask for the best rom or similar questions is NOT allowed in xda forums, you can try the last Mardon's built, but CM roms are worse than stock's rom (in my opinion), STOCK=STABLE=LONG BATTERY LIFE=NO RAMDOM REBOOTS=NO PROBLEMS AT ALL, so you need to decide how do you use your phone and how would you like to use it.
If I'm not wrong D model is the same as 5830 model so no problem if you flash whatever 5830 custom rom, the only could be the modem band, you could face problems with it.
Have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225493
I just wanted to Quote the thread that I got the CWM to work from.

Hey there guys I'm new to the site and also to the rooting of the phone and everything and Im not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I have the crc1 build number 1.5 version firmware and I have tried to root my phone to use some themes from this website but I can't format my sdcard. When I right click and click on format it says "no disk in drive, please insert disk then try again" and it automatically unmounts my sdcard. Any reason why it's doing this? I hope someone could help me out here. Thank you!

Are you just trying to format to fat32 on your pc or are you wanting all the partitions (fat32, ext2/3/4, and linux-swap). Have you tried any of the commands in terminal? Have you tried Ubuntu? There is a tut in my sig on how to do it.
Try using a card reader instead of the phone. My wife's G1 does this for some reason. Mine doesn't however, not sure why cause I have a card reader and it was easier to do that than to figure it out.
Well I was looking at the ultimate noob thread about how to root. I pretty much want to use themes on here and also use custom boot logo's and things like that. But no matter what computer I try it says to insert a disk. I don't have a card reader on my computer. I'm just trying to format it to fat32 as of right now. Then after I do that I should be able to follow the instructions to root my phone.

Do it thru Ubuntu. Ubuntu will pick it up thru the phone. Know this for sure had to help someone out with this.
Isn't linux sweet, it just works.
Alright guys I will try that out now and let you know if it works or not. Thank you. After I root my phone should I follow the steps in the guide to update the ROM and everything like thaT?

Lol, actually I thought it worked but it actually didn't. I'm still stuck not being able to format my sdcard. I'm downloading that ubuntu program as we speak but I don't know how I will read the tutorial you got in your sig and do it at the same time. lol.
Nevermind guys, I noticed under "build number" it says CRC1. I have tried to format my sdcard on my computer and it says enter disk, I've tried rooting it through other videos I've watched and nothing. I guess I won't be able to get it to work after all. Thanks though guys for your help!
i recently upgraded my OS to android 2.3.3 from a website i found on here. it works fine and all but i was wondering since i have never really done any rooting or anything, and i was wondering how i would go about possibly adding a different ROM to my phone or if i have to take my phone all the way back to stock before i do it? Also since im a noob and all, i will need step by step directions on how to do it. i already have odin3 on my computer and used it to get my 2.3.3 update. is there a way to over lay 2.3.4 or any further update they might come out with and how would i do that? also my 2.3.3 update didnt really take any of the bloatware out or anything. i know taking it out makes the phone's speed faster and all, that might be something i'd like to look into doing. really any help from you more experienced ppl would help me out awesomely.
if u need my phone's upgrade info it is:
Samsung SGH-I897
firmware is 2.3.3
baseband : I897UCKF1
kernal : 2.6.35.7-I897UCKF1-CL273832
build number : Gingerbread.UCKF1
are you trying to format it via usb while it is still in your phone?? lol you dont 'have to' format your sd card to root device... you can format it after installing a custom recovery,
it just says to format it at first because if you flash a custom rom, there will be files on your sd card from 1.5ota and might mess with rom... so just format it after you flash the custom recovery
Hi there.
New to the forum and rooting. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and also have rooted using z4 root. I tried installing the kernel SuperFast v1.1.23 and now have a big problem. I used Rom Manager to "install ROM using SD" and selected the kernel zip file that I saved onto the external SD card. It appeared to install properly and then started to boot...however it's just stuck there looping between the words "I896" and "SAMSUNG". I got to the Android system recovery <2e> manual screen and "reboot system now" just takes me back to the rotating text.
when i tried "apply sdcard:update.zip", i get a "E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted." but this option will no longer work anyways because my batter is low.
NEED HELP!!

you need ODIN and to get your phone in download mode....
i dont even know what SuperFast v...... is.
its not a kernel provided here on the captivate forums...so, dont know what to tell you. load up ODIN, put your phone in download mode and flash back the proper kernel
Please take this to the right forum...this is development!

Perhaps that is your problem, you installed an htc kernel on a samsung phone...
Use this to get back to stock and stay away from the htc section.
And don't post in the dev section either, its for developers only.

to the OP, if you really did try flashing an HTC kernel on your samsung, please do us all a favor:
return your phone and get yourself an iphail.
Thanks for the input everyone. And I will make sure to post in the correct section next time!

Actually no. It was a kernel for the Samsung Galaxy Fascinate. I accidentally installed it on my Captivate. If you really don't have any useful suggestions, you should go troll other posts instead. thanks.

also, i attempted to help you out already and DID NOT tell you you were posting in the wrong location....
i am still trying to fathom why you would attempt to load a kernel like that on your phone. i was responding to someone else who said that the kernel was an HTC kernel....
but on the other hand, congratulations on almost ruining your phone!
Ok...so I was able to restore my Rogers Samsung Captivate (I896) back to its original Rogers settings.
Phone turns on and seems to be working properly.
I reinstalled the Samsung mobile drivers from and used Heimdall to restore my phone using the downloaded file "I896UXJI2-homebinary".
So now I noticed 2 issues:
1. The 3G isn't registering/working.
2. Noticed my internaly SD memory has dropped significantly. Was originally at about 16GB, but now down to 1.5GB.
Any suggestions??
just following up. any suggestions on my issues in the post above?
thanks
Hello. I am new to this forum. I did do searching before I came here. I am sort of a noob so sorry for dumb questions. I wanted an MIUI theme on my phone. I tried MiHome but it doesn't change the UI so I want to get the MIUI ROM on my phone but I wasn't sure how. I know you have to root your phone first, but I read somewhere that MIUI isn't compatible with different rooting procedures like CyanogenMod. If thats true, which one is it compatible with? Is it possible for me to get MIUI on my phone? I have an HTC Vivid (of course) with Android ICS 4.0.3. Can anyone provide me with a guide on how to do get MIUI on my phone, preferably a video with a step-by-step description (yes, thats how noobish I am). Also, what are the odds of me rooting my phone if I follow the steps exactly as told? Sorry for a ton of questions. To sum things up, I would like to get MIUI ROM on my phone but have no idea how. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Alright....you need to do ALOT of reading...I only say that so you don't brick your phone...but here's some info as well as how to get miui
It doesn't matter how you root your phone, you can still flash any Rom...you don't even need to be rooted to flash roms
Cyanogenmod is not a rooting method, it is an aosp rom...you cam flash from cyanogen but our device doeant even have a cyanogenmod Rom (well there is one but it was discontinued...for now)
In order to get miui you will need to do the following:
1) unlock bootloader
2) get recovery
3) download miui onto your phone (can't be any miui...has to be one made for our phone...you can find it on rootzwiki.com)
4) flash miui
More detail:
In order to unlock bootloader and get a recovery I suggest using Hansen vivid toolkit that is stickier in the dev section...its the easiest most newb friendly way to unlock bootloader and get a recovery...for the most part all you do is plug in your phone and click a few buttons...here's the toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003

I guess I'm forced to use my slow PC. Hopefully it won't shut down in the process or else I'll be screwed. :/ Thanks again! I'll let you know if it works out if you want.
Just some ideas , if your pc is slow you can download and of the files you need on your phone then transfer them over to the pc , also if you download the tool kit you shouldn't need anything else but the Rom , if you get s off you will need to do a couple of things , but as mg said do some reading on this subject to kinda get an idea as to what your working with , make sure you kinda understand it so you don't brick your ph. Better safe than sorry .
Good luck and if you have questions there is a lot of good people here and would be glad to help.

Help! I managed to root my phone, which is good. I am currently using WCX. I am not sure how to flash the rom. I tried going to my internal sd card and installing the miui zip file from there. After it reboots my phone, an htc logo loads, then it takes me to some chinese. It has like big chinese words on top in red, then in the middle it has white words, and in between the white words, it loads from 0 to 100 but I have no idea what to do now. It just leaves me stuck on this page! Can anyone help me? Do I need to uninstall the rom then follow a correct process of installation or can I just do the correct process? Also, please don't redirect me to some page, because I did a lot of googling and I found one which would help me, but the site is down. I am sure it isn't a long process. This is what I did:
1. Manually put the zip file into my internal sd card.
2. Rebooted my phone to recovery.
3. Installed the zip file, which flashed the rom.
Is that correct? Can someone please help me! Thanks!

I tried what you said. I am using the All In One tool kit that someone told me to use so I flashed the kernel (boot.img) through that, assuming it is fastboot. I then rebooted my phone to recovery and selected the zip file, it flashed it. I rebooted my phone and it still takes me to that chinese screen. Is there a different MIUI ROM zip file download? I used this one: androidfilehost.com/main/HTC_Holiday_Developers/rafyvitto/MIUI_ICS_V4/
Maybe a different file would work? Thanks in advance!

I have no clue what I did. I just rebooted and some other stuff but now it works. I think it was the wipe that I did. Thanks for your help!
EDIT: I tried applying the Ultimate Iphone Theme v7.0 but it doesnt work. I go to themes and select it but it doesn't apply. I tried rebooting but it still doesnt work. I have the MIUI ROM on my phone. Why doesn't the Ultimate Iphone Theme apply? I really like it. Can anyone give me a step-by-step on how to install it because there are no good tutorials online. Thanks!

It's been a while since I used miui, but last I heard the themes in the miui theme chooser/downloader wernt compatible with miui...at least the majority wernt there was still quite a few that worked/partially worked

With the ROM I used, since I am S-On (which I assume you are too since you did not do the wire jump thing from what I read) after you initially flash the boot.img file using fastboot, you need to flash the rom, which you said you did. Then go back in and reboot to bootloader, and flash the boot.img again. It may have been just specific to the Rom I used, but that is the instructions I followed for mine. I hope you made a nandroid before you flashed Miui in case you ran into these troubles....
Guys, Im tearing my hair out here. I have been all over the site for some for of comprehensive answer to my question, but everything I find is making me more confused. So please don't make any cynical "use the search" or "we don't search for you" comments. I am asking for help, not sarcasm. Surely this is the point in a Q&A forum?? They say you only get the right answer if you ask the right question, but I'm not sure what questions to ask. So, Now that's out of the way...here is my problem.
I am using GT I9000, and until last night I was using v2 Paranoid Android on Devil Kernel. I set it up initially with the help of a friend, but he is lost as far as getting this problem fixed...hence my capitulation to asking the forum.
I flashed what I thought was the latest PA Rom, but it turns out that it was the latest CM10, so yeah, you guessed it, wrong ROM. I am now caught in a bootloop and unable to get back into recovery in order to flash from zip, or to delete the data folder in order to get rid of the PA data to allow the boot to continue. I am using Clockwork Recovery, but cant get it fired up.
I saw that apparently I can delete data from within Odin, but I cant find out how to, so I then went to see about going down the root of reverting to stock and starting again, but I cant find a stock rom as I m getting an error 404 on the Samsung site and all the links I am finding for a stock rom are directing me there.
Also, when trying to revert, I have JW4, but I don't have the phone or bootloader for it and cat find them as I am not 100% of what I am looking for, and I am also unsure as to whether or not I am needing a pit file in order to re partition. But even when I revert I will be looking to reinstall Paranoid, so is this even necessary.
As you can see, I have a little knowledge, but a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Right now I am looking at a flashing brick that is taunting me....If there is an easy way for me to get into clockwork recovery, I'm sure I can go from there, but I really I am at a loss, and cant think what questions I need to ask to rectify this situation.
Any help that I can get would be most appreciated...
Thanks
G
[edit] I have since posting this, taken the bricking to a stage further. I am now looking at a black screen with a fone and computer icon with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark between. I now have to go to stock....please help. I REALLY need to get my fone back in order... I needs it for work. Thanks again.

I'ts a pleasure to help, im glad to see you have your phone working fine now
Hello everyone, im a noob on here and have a stock gingerbread (JW4) but rooted gt-i9000. im past my 24 months and can upgrade my phone at anytime but i love my sgs but am a bit annoyed that sammy are no longer creating firmware updates for it. so i decided to root it with the intention of finding a way of missing ICS and going straight to jellybean.
it seems the only way to go is by installing custom roms, but as im not particularly technical and not understanding the mechanics that well i dont want to / i am scared of messing with the phone without really knowing what im doing. ive heard of kernels but dont know what they are or what they do. ive dabbled with rooting but that is as far as ive got and im not convinced im not gonna break the phone if i go any further!
I got so far (thanks to a senior member on here in other threads) but have stopped for fear of not knowing what im doing and getting something wrong, so im hoping someone out there who's been in my position will be nice enough to help me further.
so basicly im asking for some help to find and install a version of JB that is near enough to what samsung would of supplied. ive seen it on a mates s3 and i like it thats why i want it on my phone, rather than buying the s3 (big brick of a phone)
Thanking anyone who helps in advance.
G.
first of all you shouldn't be afraid to mess your phone. it's really hard do brick it (believe me, i've semi-bricked my phone some times and it's running great now ). besides that, if you follow the tutorials exactly like as it's written you shouldn't get in trouble
second, do you have CWM recovery installed?

Hi and thanks for your reply! Yes ClockWorkMod root/recovery is where ive got to. The reason i finding this all so daunting is that is no 1 tutrial to follow, everyone seems to have a different way of doing it, either by experimentation or luck, and its just a bit confusing to a complete novice like me. I did try to find a How To section on here but it wasnt easy trying to trawl the 1000s of threads!

I was exactly the same at first but now I am on jellybean 4.2 the scariest thing as far as upgrading to jellybean is the error u get wen upgrading cwm wen u first flash the upgrade but just hold the 3 button combo for about 10 seconds an u should be back into recovery it may take a few Trys it did with me then reflash it twice to be sure any problems after that will have answers on their threads so as long as you follow the installation instructions you will be OK

the basic procedure to flash a new rom is this:
Put the file in your internal sdcard
Do a Nandroid Backup!
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition + wipe dalvik) i also like to go to mount and storage and wipe /data, /datadata, /system, /cache.
flash zip from sdcard
reboot
if you are going to upgrade from froyo/GB to JB i recommend you to flash any ICS rom first (once i have a problem with upgrading from stock GB to MIUI JB
331 saeorge
Thanks everyone for your input.
I took the plunge and braved it and followed a tutorial "for dummies" and a youtube flick that someone had reference to the same tutorial, and decided on CM10 with GAPPS flash, and i now have JB 4.1.2. However i didnt either
1. do ICS first, or
2. do a Nandriod backup
!!!!!!!!
Got me worried now, I wonder if i should of done the ICS first - whats the benefit of this?
Nandriod Backup - what is this?
everything seems to be working fine, but i do have a couple of issues a) no 4x3 keyboard which i use for texting b) poor battery life.
im going to scour this forum for some answers, but if you have any immediate answers that would be very helpful.
Cheers
Geoff.

nand backup is just like saving the stage of your phone before you start to flash it so you can go back if you need to. if you have problem you can always flash a stock rom via odin but you will lose your data.
about the keyboard i don't know if you can have it with ics/jb but try swiftkey x. way better

Surprised you never lost your imei jumping from GB to JB missing ICS.
I've jumped like that before, but lost my imei and had no service, I only had to reinstate my efs folder, but it's done that 2 out of 2 times that I've done it. Maybe you were just lucky or something..

Its usually only jumping from GB to JB that does it. Just use a root file browser, i personally recommend solid explorer btw, go to root, find the folder called /efs and copy and paste it onto your external sd for safe keeping. Its no big problem if you do lose your imei then, just copy and paste it back and overwrite.
