Hi all
I was an early adopter of the One and had two faulty devices with gaps etc, anyway, I was wondering if these 'problems' have been ironed out yet? Looking to buy a new one but dint wan to if same thing happens.
I just bought mine, manufactured in end of may. And while I decided to keep it, it is not perfect. Some rough edges on left side of phone on plastic. And around volume rocker and sim tray also not very good.
So I guess there are still problems in production.

Mine is a good 'One' without problems.
If you are going to buy another then the best thing is to buy it in a store where you can examine it first.
My first store bought One, also had rough plastic around the edges. I took it back and to their credit they straight swapped it for me then and there with no dramas and even opened up the new one just to check if it was all good

Just check your device in store, but still, you could find microscopic (can't be seen from more than 3 cm away) defects on almost any One. Just don't be too picky...
Are they not a little funny about you opening a sealed box? I know if I was to buy a phone and the box was open I'd be wary it was a return!

No. You buy a phone, you check it, if it's faulty they swap it there and then. If it's not faulty, you take it home. If the shop is unwilling to do that, don't shop there.
popped into o2 store and checked two devices, both I was not happy with so went with another handset. Shame as I really liked the One

So pretty much I ordered my nexus 7 right when it was announced, and due to a shipping error Google wanted another 8 weeks to get it to me from release so I canceled my order. Being the impatient idiot that I am I went and bought a new one off eBay. I am aware of the screen separation issue and it seems that it is affecting my unit on the left side of the screen. It annoys me a bit but I'll live. But my question is will the screen separation slowly get worse and spread? I haven't found a very clear answer.
I would say yes. Mine was 100% fine when I got it, 11 days ago and now has lift and creaking. Seems not as responsive. Sounds like bad first batch

Hmm I really hope that isn't the case with mine because I don't think I'll be able to get Google to replace it because I bought it from eBay. I haven't noticed much of change with mine from day one, but it'd be nice to hear responses from a few other people so I know how screwed I am hahahaha
And I bet you paid 2x the price with no warranty so it can't be fixed now

Thank you. I'm just not sure if its worth replacing at this time because of how back ordered the tablets are. I'm on vacation so I don't have the ability to talk to google right now I just hope the screen doesn't fall apart on me.

I got 2 defective N7's....returned them. My plan is to wait until the 2nd "batch" with no defects. Maybe in few months, I will try again.
You should probably return and do what I (and many others), are doing. Wait.
My thinking was, I paid $275 for this, and its defective. Did I come looking for a perfect tablet? Yes. Not a defective one. Its really your call, but I can tell you the problem won't get any better.
Cheers
Mine was just noticeable on day one, within days the screen was visibly moving just by handling the tablet.
So there is every chance it will get worse so I would say get it replaced.
By the same token, there is every chance a replacement will have the same problem and just as much chance that you will get a perfect unit that develops a fault later on.
Suppose it's down to what yo are prepared to put up with.
Personally, if it turned out every unit in the world had a problem I would live with it and just try to find a fix but knowing that there ARE perfeclt good units out there makes it harder to live with.
I'm planning on getting a warranty from squaretrade for the tablet. Mine is fine but just in case something develops down the line I like to have peace of mind
Eh. $40 for a $200 device seems a little much.
kinda off topic but
my screen started something very strange today..
it has these little lines about 1/2 inch long running up and down it at random locations. It looks kinda like some type of render tearing. When you twist the tablet from side to side they kinda glow then go away. They look off shades of the colors being produced by those pixels.. I just noticed this thread and thought i would post here instead of starting another Thread.. Hope you do not mind.
Its so faint i cant get a picture of it at all. Sorry about this.. My question is has anyone ever seen anything like this.. It reminds me of the grid if code on matrix but its not that bad . its always at the same position until you power off then they are right back but different / random locations. They are not lined up in any way except it runs same directing. vertically

There is a certain dealer from China from which i bought a mobile around 4months ago. I tested it and then boxed it. I recently had the need to use my two cards in one device so opened it again and begun using it. The dealer was skhuamei2015 beware not to buy from him. I at the beginning of last week noticed that there was a bug on my screen small and white moving around. At first i believed that something got in and it will die after a while or get out the same way. The second day there were two of them and the third three. That made me a little curious and i googled it. I found out that i wasn’t the only one similar problem have occurred. It was a kind of mite that colonizes mobile phones. The things i read said that this bug can possibly enter your ear. The next day i examined the case i was using and counted and killed a dozen of this bugs on it. This means the get out harvest and go back in. I was forced to put it in an airtight container and since i cant use it i am giving it a treatment with a very strong insecticide for about a month and i will see. Please beware when you buy mobiles from China origin and stay away from that dealer. When i tried to contact him he called a liar. I told him that all this will go in public either he accepts it back or not its a matter of hygiene.
Not really anything to do with mobile phones, but I can understand what you are saying. I know here in the UK in the summer we get these really small black flies.. not sure if this is the true name, but some call them "thunder flies" and I had one stuck under my screen last summer walking around. Then it decided to die right in the middle of my screen. Its very frustrating.
I imagine the bug/insect you have must be much much smaller than these however, to get into a mobile phone.
DId you think that the bug got into your phone in the 4 months that it was in your ownership? I mean, I dont think they have bugs that after 4 months, randomly start reproducing.

Looks like demo Ones are starting to pop up in stores. I was at my local Best Buy today (in Oceanside, CA), and they had both the silver and black demo units.
Two things: I LOVE the feel of that cool metal. It's super. And a lot of people were saying the black one is like a fingerprint magnet, but I didn't get that impression when messing with it. Even the bf, who has the world's sweatiest hands, said it wasn't terribly bad. May be different on the real thing though.
I called 2 Sprint stores (one corporate, one not) and neither had demos, but BB did! Anyone else been playing on demo units in their store?

The demo unit were actual working units or the summy versions? I know Best buy has dummy version on the shelves but they have actual working units behind the counter.
When I went into my local best buy a couple days ago they only had the dummy versions. I'm surprised yours has working ones.

Dummy. I didn't even ask the guys behind the counter if they had working ones, but I did go to 3 Best Buys and only 1 of them had the dummies.

I saw the black dummy model at one of my best buys. I get the impression that it's not the same material as the actual one because, like you said, absolutely no fingerprints.
Plus the pieces seemed too .. Together? And the power button wasn't click able. So I'm skeptical on how much of the actual materials and design was part of the dummy besides the look.
Plus why would they do the 200 minute carving process on dummy units.
Just throwing things out there. Not even that important.

Yeah, I was a bit skeptical because of that fact as well. I was really gunning for the black One at first, but I started having second thoughts when people were saying it was difficult to wipe the fingerprints off the back, since I was planning to use the phone naked. (That and the possibly of silver-colored metal showing through the scratches.) But I guess in the end I didn't have much of a choice in the matter anyway, since black release is still TBD. The dummy units still feel really nice though.
Just got in my dev edition M7 earlier today (04-22-13).
Phone is very beautiful, well built and almost seem perfect until a few minutes ago whiles I was laying in bed playing around with it, when I notice the long light-bleed coming from the lower right corner.
I was like NOO this is not happening!!! After having waited for so long.
It is really annoying because of the length and brightness of the bleed.
Tomorrow I will definitely call up HTC or LetsTalk for a replacement.
See pics.
Hope no one else has had this major defect.

i just checked mine and i do not have any bleed. I also played the HD dark knight trailer and no bleed confirmed. *phew* ....
Did you drop it or bang it against something. In that last picture I can't tell if that's a smudge or a chip in the glass on the edge of the display in the area.
No. All I did was unbox the phone, took some photos of the phone to post online. Then I immediately put it inside a clear case. Next I went through the setup and only when I was passed that I noticed the light from the corner.
It was handled like a new born baby from the moment it came out from the box .

Def get it replaced that's not normal at all there should be no light bleed at all. What is your batch # build date? Should be like FA345 or like SH etc it's on the box that the unit came in on the bottom part.

Time will tell; it looks like more and more people are complaining about case separation issues as they use them for a few days/weeks.
I'll tell you what I saw: a demo at a store that had been handled a lot (no scratches or dents, so probably not abused), but it looked like hell -- the case was coming apart all around the seams!!
HTC has compromised a lot of things in the last couple of years, and I think they have really compromised build quality now. It might look good brand new, but they don't seem to hold up under normal use like their earlier phones did.
We'll see.

I did a cross shipment this morning too. Did you get your shipping e-mail? I was told that they wouldn't know when they would ship mine out.
I don't know what a cross shipment is, but the phone was sent back to letstalk today. Process the RMA directly from their website. It's due for arrival on Thursday. Guess until then I wouldn't be hearing from them. But I will call once I know they receive the defective phone.
Just got off the phone with them after waiting over an hour, they made the shipping label yesterday and will be shipping overnight today. So I should have the replacement by tomorrow.
Called a few minutes ago and the lady said they would have to charge me again if they did a cross shipment. In any case there isn't any phones available until Friday she informed me.
Update: 04-26-2013
Was on a chat with rep from letstalk about my RMA, and was told the following ...
Candra: The exchange order will be processed after the rest of the preorders are being fulfilled once the phones are in stock.
Bernard: serious? that's not fair. I had my pre-order from the 6th ... now I must wait much longer because I received a defective phone?
Candra: We still have orders from the 5th that haven't been fulfilled. I do apologize but these orders do need to be processed first.
Well, from the looks of things, it seems like I might get my replacement in a few weeks!
edit: Story of my process last night.
So I got my phone in the morning, and opened it up to find the screen was swirled and scratched and looked really bad in any light. Luckily my mom preordered the S6 (I have the S6 Edge) so I went over to her house to compare phones or to see if she had any scratches on hers. Her phone was absolutely perfect and was a good side by side of what my phone should have looked like. So I went into the AT&T store to activate and talk about getting a replacement or something.
I told AT&T about my concerns about the swirling and scratching and the worker that was helping me looked at it and then tried to justify it. He told me that it looked like a "geometric pattern" so clearly it wasn't from shipping and it was clearly from manufacturing. I think he was trying to comment on the concentric circling of the scratches, so I got what he was saying, but regardless of where the damage came from I felt like they should be responsible for it since they are the ones selling the phone.
Well, I asked what my options are. He told me that I couldn't activate the phone because then I wouldn't be able to return it to an AT&T store to get it replaced. He then told me that it was Samsungs problem and that I should contact their support to get it fixed, since it was a preorder he claimed the phone came straight from Samsung and not AT&T so they aren't responsible. A manager walked over to see how everything was going and when I mentioned my issues, he basically just told me that it sucked. He then walked away. On my way out I told another manager (I am assuming they were both managers. They had dress coats on that said Manager and had the AT&T logo on it.) The other manager said basically the same thing.... "Bummer." And that was it. I walked out with no options from AT&T.
I contacted Samsung and their support told me that I need to talk to AT&T about it since Samsung only manufactures the phones and AT&T sells them, so it's AT&Ts problem since they are the ones actually selling the device. So I got the official run around.
My only bet is to go back to AT&T on the 10th... which I'm supposed to be out of town, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
Going to try to contact AT&T today and see what they say.
Like T-Mobile people were complaining about, the screen is swirled straight out of the box. It looks really bad.
I can try and get pictures if people want. Just figured I'd get a thread started to see if anyone else has the problem.
Edit: Picture here. I'll take more tonight.

Sorry to see you have this problem. Both the phones that I've received, mine and my girlfriend's, seem to be scratch free. I tried to scrutinize with the brightest light I could find, the sun etc, but I couldn't see a blemish. The battery life is crap, but that's another story.

I wouldn't mind the scratches if I was allowed to use the phone until a new, scratch free one got here... but whatever. Stuck with my S4 while everyone else gets to enjoy their new stuff.
In all honesty man, I'd try another ATT store. I think they are just trying to shirk responsibility. Or call them and have them overnight you one. It is their product, their responsibility.

I called ATT support and they are sending me a new one out.
Sucks because I got the phone on Monday, but I probably won't get to actually use one until the end of the week. Which is fine, just excited.
However, I am going to assume this new one getting sent out is going to be scratched too.
The 128GB models have been fine I think, mostly 32GB models are scratched. Which makes me feel dumb for buying the 32GB model now... Should have just gotten the bigger version.
I used to work in an AT&T store, basically replacing the phones in store is the managers discretion and they never want that on their audit because it somehow looks bad for them, or at least that is the impression our manager gave us. So our store handled those situations the same way, we just kind of keep passing off the blame and hope it will carry the customer out of the store (no longer our problem).
The only way to get something done through AT&T is to call into support as you did, sometimes support will even notate on the account that the store has to replace the device. This kind of forces the store to do so, because there is a trail and the regional manager would get pissed when they discover the store keeps passing off issues. We had a customer do that once and our manager still refused to replace it, so the customer kept calling into support until the regional manager was notified and took a look at the account and then they see notes for weeks that the customer has attempted going into a store for help and been fighting with the store manager.

How sure are you about this?
The reason I ask is that I hadn't really noticed many people posting which specific model they had that was scratched, but there could be some credibility to it, and a bit of shady dealings on Samsung's part if this is actually the case.

I've only seen maybe one person complain about 128GB version, everyone else with 128GB versions have been fine.
However, everyone with 32GB versions seem to be having the issue. It could be coincidence and have to do with popularity of the 32GB over the 128GB.

So exactly how'd this process go for you?
They gave me so much run around I've got half a mind to go to every AT&T store I can just to curse out random employees until I feel better.
The short of the line of crap they gave me is that the shipper (FedEx) is to blame and that a case will have to be opened with them before -anything- else occurs. This of course leaves me with no device until they and FedEx discuss whatever they need to in order to deal with this bullcrap.
What I'm going to do for now is see if I can wait until the local retail store gets their units in to just do an exchange. If that doesn't work, I don't know... maybe I'll be an ass and let my lawyer give them a call. Frankly I'm just that irritated at this point.
