A little problem with HTC Music - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey,
I have a little problem, it's not a big deal really but I just can't figure out why it's happening...
When I'm playing music on the HTC Music app and I go to the visualizer it says "Accessing the Gracenote Media Database" but then no lyrics appear at all...
Could that be a location related issue? My phone is set to Greece (through the SIM card) but I live in Jordan.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot in advance

Location should not have anything to do with it. Where did you get the music from , it could be that the ID3tags are not set correctly, the music lyrics may not be in the database there are several factors but should have nothing to do with location

I wish that was the problem but I checked everything... I also tried with the music shipped with the phone (obviously tags are fine and lyrics are available for those)
I went as far as assuming there was something wrong with the music app accessing the internet but then it updates album arts just fine! :/

I realized most songs, MOST popular songs, if properly ripped with the right mp3 ID3 tags etc - it will have lyrics.
So it's not really a problem with the software or your phone. It is probably because the song you are playing doesn't have the right info for them to know what the song is?
There's also an option in the settings to "update only on Wifi"? Something like that. Maybe that has something to do with it. On Wifi, lyrics for most songs show up and load really quickly too.
Anyway, the lyrics display is really beautiful.. HTC should include all this yummy feautures in its phone marketing !!!

It's a location issue! I am also having this issue but when I tried using hotspotshield to connect to a US IP address it retrieves the lyrics now. Even if I disable it, it can download lyrics still. So my guess is you need to initialize it with a supported location IP first.

Its definitely a location issue. Just tried to play the music when I'm connected to a VPN network US based IP. and BOOM ... all songs have lyrics now.
I dont know why this is happening. Shame on HTC to do such a thing.
To OP,
Try updating the lyrics over proxy/vpn to confirm this as we are sharing the same location.

It's vpn issue
You're right guys !!!!!!! Its a vpn issue. I turned usa vpn and its works now , even without connect to usa all the time. Thank you !!!!:fingers-crossed::good:

Change shuffle order?

Has anyone else noticed that with either Windows Media Player or the HTC Audio Manager, it will always use the same shuffle order? Doesn't this defeat the purpose? Anyone know how to get it to "reshuffle" with every play. I am getting tired of hearing my play lists in the same order everytime.

Amen, thought I was the only one who noticed this!
Yes, surprising isn't it. Even a using a search on all forums didn't turn up this same question. I think this is true for Wondows Media Player on all devices, or at least the one's I have owned. Would be nice is HTC could provide a shuffle option that actually shuffles with the Audio Manager. Perhaps they should call it "Reorder" instead of "Shuffle".
Just searched and this is the only thread I could find on this problem.
My media player doesn't actually play the library in folder order, but seems to shuffling only a few songs on the list.
Is playing them from the library the only option? - you can play only one song at a time when accessing the music folder with windows explorer.
to "reshuffle" have you tried turning off shuffle, selecting another track, playing it, then turn shuffle back on.
Thanks for the suggestion - yes I've tried that, but it just seems so hit and miss with the Windows media player and the shuffle play seems to repeat a few tracks too often.
I've now installed MortPlayer and it's working great, so I'm not going to bother with the WM player now.
Thanks.

Yes, this is my half baked solution. I just scroll down and start a few songs later in the list as it is sorted via the playlist. It still does not "shuffle" though, just puts me at a different point in the (properly termed...) reordered playlist. If it's a short playlist though, you will figure out pretty quickly that the songs go in the same order every time, you just started at a different point.
In computing, the random doesn't exist, we can only approach it by simulating.
You won't never get a "real" shuffle. When you select this mode in WMP or HTC audio manager, it follows an algorithm, that's why you always hear songs in the same order with the same playlist. The best way is to change your playlist.
I hope this explanation is helpful and clear, and if somebody can give us more details on the subject, don't hesitate (I like learning more and more )

I hear what you saying regarding computers not being good at random, but I can tell you that this MortPlayer is doing a damn fine job of it.
I think that these workarounds with the playlist are a poor reflection on WM media player - I have about 1.5G in my music folder and MortPlayer can shuffle the lot without the need to first create a playlist.
I didn't say that you need to create a playlist. On the contrary, more the numbers of songs is high, more the order in which you will hear its is changing, because the probability of finding the song "m" on a sample "M" diminishes when you increase "M" ( "M " can be a playlist or 1.5 GB of songs)

ahhhh music libary

Hi all,
got something that's driving me crazy, i can sync my music with windows media player fine and the music copies across as it should however when i come to play the music with touchflo 3d it only shows the first lot of music i put on.
I cannot seem to figure out how to refresh the libray on touchflo 3d...
does anyone have the answer for me?
thanks
If you tap 'Library', then slide accross to Albums... do your recently synced items show up there?
I am having this problem too
I cannot see any of my music in TF3D music player
no nothing is showing up i resynced all my music with media player and still nothing shows, it nows says no music found.
there must be a better way to sort the library.
there shouldnt be this hassle just to put music on the phone!
I think you require too much for a phone so cheap.
Try the advantage,or wait for HD.

i want your job if you consider this to be (a phone so cheap)
you get paid too much.
on the plus side to the normally challenged people out there , you have to update the library in windows media player, then go into library on touchflo 3D, select all songs and play the first track it then updates all the tracks for you.

thannks man, this has been driving me crazy - talk about a flaw in the system!
Will
Delete Application Data/HTC/AudioManager/AudioManager_Eng.vol and do soft reset.
this will rescann your complete library.
i got the same problem and this helped
I still cannot get it to work - all my music syncs of from media player and I can play it on media player on the diamond but on TF3D it just hangs on Searching!!!
If i delete all my media and load 1 song it works fine if I do the above deleting of the HTC application folder but if I then try to add some more it does not work!!
Has anyone got this working? or is it just me?????

prob just you lol, works for me try this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397819&highlight=tf3d+music+albums
just add the music to internal storage yourself? :S works fine for me
nope didn't work...must be just me!!
I have moved to S2P but its a shame i wanted to use the built in stuff
I had the same problems too. Until I read and followed the instructions for adding songs and album art and updating the library on TF3D.
Now for the enchilada!! Does anyone know how you can update windows media's library (once you have added more songs to the Diamond from PC) and set it to search in a particular folder instead of adding all the media files on the phone(tomtom files, alert & warning sounds and the like) to your music library. Only solution thus far more is to delete these files every time i update, which is now getting a bit tiring .
Any help or suggestions welcomed.

Music Player not recognizing tags

I have all my music on my SanDisk MP3 players, even checked the tagging under properties in Windows - all the album/artist info is there, even the album art shows up on my MP3 players.
However, when I upload all this music to the G1 - it all reads as "unknown artist" "unknown album" - with no album artwork and no organization of the music...
anyone have an idea?
Very weird, mounted it to the computer, unmounted and went back to music, all working now....
Yeah mine did that as well, must be a bug. Tunewiki is a great music app in the market and it blows away the default music player!!!
Yeah I like Tune-Wiki. I personally, actually really like the default music player on the device. I love the simplicity of it and it just seems to work really well. An equalizer would be nice but thats about the only thing I think it's missing.
I think there is still a bug though, as out of 2,000 songs - I have 849 "unknown" - when I check the songs files they show proper tagging.
I may drop them all into "Tag and Rename" later tonight and see if that does the trick.
I have an issue with the media player not recognizing some of my album art...all of the files are of the same size/type, tags were all created with the same program, yet when I put all the songs on my sd card, only half of the album art shows up.
I'm not one to complain, but if I'm putting in all this EXTRA effort to make my album art show up(not the simple folder.jpg) I'd like it to all work, not just some of it. :-( WTF!
Exactly, I'm having half my album art not show up, and half the songs not being recognized. It sucks.
Yet they were ALL created using the same software and all tagged the same.
I wonder if it's filenames that start with a number, or a syntax issue --- might be worth looking into.
i am having same issue with tunewiki.... i dropped about 15 albums onto the sd card and it recognised only 2 of them- the rest are unknown and all have correct ide tags- checked with 2 different programs!
Do we know if they are working on this issue? I tried to find their contact on the website but got nothing.... fairly useless website actually.
Must be something to do with the G1 though as the default player does the same!

i agree about the EQ in the default player.
so does anyone have a fix for the G1 not recognising ID3 tags?

Music Sync Issue (Unknown Artist)

I have searched far and wide through this forum, and also googled it, and there doesn't seem to be an answer, so I will bring it up again. I have imported pretty much all of my music with iTunes, which tagged and organized all my music. However, when I put my music onto my nexus one, many many albums get sorted into "unknown artist" when all of my music is nicely sorted in folders by artists. This seems very strange to me. People have suggested double twist and a few other various programs, but no one has given any input as to whether these programs worked. Does anyone have an answer for this?
As I was looking through the albums that have been filed as "unknown artist" I noticed that each song had a number infront of it as the designation of which song number each song on the album was. I am going to play with this tomorrow and see if editing each track (this is going to suck, I have over 4000 songs in my library!!!!) will help at all.

well froyo will have the ability to play music OTA from itunes with an update for the music application in the market after froyo releases. it may fix the problem. if you can wait for a few weeks it may be resolved. as for being put as unknown, maybe the artist is not tagged correctly. check the mp3 tags to make sure that data is there
Your ID3 tags are screwed up. Your filenames don't matter, it's the ID3 tags.
Use MP3Tag (google it), it's one of the best taggers there is.
+1 for mp3tag
been using it for years
I dont let any programs "automatically organize" my music
becareful with it though, if you mass edit something incorrectly you could find that all of your tags get messed up
try music folder on the market
Well, thank you very much for the info! I will look into it today and hopefully get my music all sorted out!
I have the very same problem.
Most of the replies here seem to suggest that retagging the mp3s will solve the issue. However, all of my mp3s were working correctly before I upgraded to Froyo. To confirm this, I've just done a restore to cyanogen 5 and sure enough, all were working fine again.
When I used easytag to fix some of the files, they still didn't show up the correct information under Froyo. So, there's definitely something fishy going on here!
I have similar problems sometimes when there are multiple tags (id2,id3 etc). Using an app to clean the tags and reapply them in a uniform way usually works tho.
A seperate issue tho is embedded albumn art doesnt show up for a couple of albumns. The tags are identical to other albumns that work, and so are the image file types used to create the cover art. Anoying! These are the kind of little niggly problems that make jo public buy an iphone

What app would you suggest to clean them up? I've tried using MP3Tagger Pro, but I'm a complete n00b at this sort of thing.
I downloaded MP3Tag, and that did the trick. the only thing is that It does take a long time to get everything set up. And I downloaded the album art from amazon. I have only fixed a few albums, tho. I have over 4000 songs in my library, so I am only doing the ones that I have on my storage card at the moment.

If it makes you feel any better I have over 12000 tracks and some were tagged badly that I pulled from a friemds music library
So I had something strange happen. Ever since I got the update for froyo, all the music on my SD card has been properly tagged (at least it gets sorted correctly by artist, album, etc.) Hooray for FROYO!!

Android music library issues
Hi,
Here is the issue: after installing cyanogenmod 7 on my HD2, I have tranfered about 5Go of music from my pc to the sd card.
The problem is that all these mp3 have proper mp3 tag in ID3 v2.3 in UTF-8, but they are all recognized as "Unknown artists" mp3, and the album is just the folder.
I have tried to transfer an alicia keys album (only a single album) to the phone, also in id3 v2.3, and it is correctly tagged and recognized.
So I've tried to delete de media storage data, and reboot the phone.
At the start up, the system rescan the entirer sd card, but now the alicia keys albums are recognized as "unknown artist" and the album is also just the mp3 folder.
I have the same issue when rescanning with meridian player.
The problem seems to appears only when there are several folder of mp3/large amount of mp3 files to scan ex: >1Gb)
At this point, I've understood several points:
1. android can correctly read mp3 music with tags in ID3 V2.3
2. massive scan of music seems to be the cause of incorrect recognition of mp3 from android.
At this point, is there a way to properly scan mp3 with there tags, even in a massive scan ?

do i have to buy the songs or have sound hound pro? they are just some mp3 i had downloaded before..
You don't have to buy anything.
You might have a problem with the MP3 tags in your tracks. If the tag entries are incorrect or missing, then the lookup won't work properly. It also depends on whether there are lyrics available for your songs. You could try a few songs at random to check.
I can get lyrics for approximately 90-95% of my music library.

yes, both.. :S it connects to GraceNotes but no lyrics at all.. only album art..
It took some time on mine but it eventually came. Just stay on the song until it comes. Some are just plain lyrics you have to scroll through, the other is the entire karaoke experience with auto scrolling background glitter and all that stuff.
Also check your tags with mp3tag, it should be something like "id3v2.3 lyrics" or something
No reason for it not to work
