I have looked through some of the options in the android store, but I like how the stock SMS app has the ability to alert me over my trucks radio that I have a received a new message. Having GO SMS Pro for some time I determined that the app was not capable of doing that, so my question is:
Does an app similar to stock which has the ability to alert you over your vehicles radio that you have received a message exist? Or is stock the only option for that sort of feature?

Hey guys!
Recently, I bought an HTC One and because I'm switching from a Nexus device, I installed as many stock Android apps as possible from the Play Store.
Including the stock SMS app, which seems to bring some problems:
1. Even after disabling notifications inside the Sense SMS app, it still has influence on the unread counter. My new android stock SMS app now always shows a "(1)" on its icon, even if there are no unread messages. After starting the sense stock messaging app once, the counter disappears ...but only till a new message comes in.
2. I often get a "message not sent" notification when using the android stock SMS app, but the message is being sent though. Some seconds later the message is marked as sent and everything is okay (Transmission report is active).
Do you have any ideas how to fix these issues? The easiest way would be to disable the sense messaging app, but I'd like to leave my bootloader locked for a while, so I'm looking for a solution without having root.
Bump
Any ideas?
Hi,
given the new notification options in the native Pebble app, I wanted to get rid of 3rd party notification apps using the native notifications instead. While going through the list, I realized that I can enable notifications for all Android apps except of TextSecure. Does anyone else noticed that? Is there a workaround? TextSecure notifications were working, using "Rich notifications for Pebble" for example!?
Thanks,
Tobi

Hi Tobi,
I can't enable notifications for TextSecure, too. And it isn't possible for TitaniumBackup, SMS/MMS and "SMS Backup & Restore" as well. Maybe the feature is disabled for apps that can gain full SMS access, since SMS are accessed directly by the pebble app? (Strange that it is different for Hangouts, though.)
Hi,
I've been in contact with the pebble guys, will keep you updated when they answer..
UPDATE: For the moment, you have to disable the check for SMS notifaction in the pebble options and activate each SMS app seperately.
Hello forum. In the Oreo update for some reason the ability to use custom notification sounds for specific contacts was removed. Samsung blames it on Google and vice versa. Theres a 150+ page thread at Samsungs community site about it. Ive contacted them myself and they blamed Oreo. Anyway this use to be as simple as going to the contact and setting the notification sound you wanted for that persons texts. You can still set ringtones, but not texts anymore using Samsungs messaging app. I know there are 3rd party apps that do this, and you can set them per thread in Googles stock messaging app, but I prefer the Samsung messaging app.
Similarly Google removed being able to set custom notification sounds per label in the Gmail app. But after getting Tasker I got some help to make this work with Tasker and the plugin Notification Listener. So I was thinking there might be a way to use Tasker to have Samsungs messaging app notify me with a custom sound for a specific contact. I tried to figure this out myself and couldnt. So I am hoping someone can help me out with this, of course assuming its possible. Thanks
Take a look at the Tasker wiki SMS Notification Management entry.

Use in profile the state of unread text and within that you can add in a contact.
In the task you can use if the above profile active then play sound, I use a custom vibrate pattern also.
This is what I use and it works well.

I have chosen to use Android Messages vs the the Samsung Messages app that orginally came with the phone. I personally prefer Android Messages as it's simple and not so compacted. Anyhow recently, I notice I can't get notifications for some reason its like it's set to a timer that will allow the notification to be on the lock screen or pull down menu. Perhaps another way of describing it is: it's when I have multiple sms messages but nowhere was I informed that I had messages, but if only one message comes I get the proper notification. It's weird as... All my notifications are properly all set up and the app is updated to the latest verison..
Hi, did you get a solution to this, I have a similar problem on my Note 9 Default SMS App, I never get notifications when I get any texts. I can only see them when i open Messages APP

Hi,
is there any way to receive emergency alert messages in other apps and not in the default Messages?
I asked Textra about it and the answer was:
If the amber alert / emergency alert comes in as a SMS it will show up in Textra, if it comes in as a push notification it will only show up on your pre-installed messaging app out of the box, poor practice we know, but this is their way of trying to lock you in.
This is the same for all other messaging apps.
I hope this clarifies.

The problem is that when an alert comes (and since I have Textra as default sms app) instead of viewing the alert I get a popup to choose another messaging app!
Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas?
