That happened to me yesterday after i dropped the phone . I removed the back cover and the camera assembly, and i bended the metal case under the power button with a small flat screwdriver. It works now but the click feeling is weaker than before. I hope is going to last for a while ,,

Hi,
My power button broke last week and just installed Android, my issue is that I can't get any menus since can't use the power button. Anyways to remap the menu button to the D-pad? Or can I get menus without the power button, I have tried everything. Thanks.
i'm in the same boat. my power button has been flakey for the last few months, but as of yesterday it's on it's last legs. it sometimes takes me 3 or 4 minutes to get my phone unlocked to make a call. i might have to go back to windows!
So I just replaced the housing on my phone. Check and see if its the connecton on the motherboard or the button itself. If its the button, I'd be happy to hook one of y'all up with a new power button from my old housing.

man I'd gladly take your old power button. For the last couple of months, I've been using an eraser and tape for my power button lol

Ok PM me with your contact info and I will send it along... If you need a link to a disassembly guise for the vogue, let me know.
I was having trouble with my camera button, so "back" was missing. I tore it apart...need a Torx 5...using complete teardown instructions I found on this site. The metal clips came loose and allowed the switch to push into the case. You can see how they should look by comparing to the reset button or camera button that is working. I bent the clips back and dropped some solder on them to hold them in place. Then probed with the phone on...pressing the switch down onto the board and clicking the button and watching for a response. Once I found it, I held it in place and lightly heated the metal leads to reflow the solder joints on the motherboard. I held it down for 30 seconds after removing the iron. Once I reassembled it, everything seems perfect. This seems a much better solution than trying to hack up a custom control scheme. Good luck.
Anybody having problems with the power button not working?
It doesn't work at all no matter how hard I push. At times it works without issue, other times I have to use the camera button to wake my phone.
Anyone else with this?
Defective unit.
me too!!!!

Did you both ever opened the phone, maybe for repair or the.prevoius owner? Maybe check the "outside" when opening phone (and removing LCD) many times the button flex cable gets damaged or get a small crack so it stop working after some time... The button flex is mounted very easily, maybe just need to get it back right into position and make sure it holds the contacts. The whole flex is just 6euro, repairing easy.. Just follow "ifixit"
✌
I had a problem with the power button on my phone recently. It was off, just like you describe, guys.
But the combination: power button + vol UP, to force a reboot of the phone worked and after booting, the button was working and the problem never occurred again.
My power button has some play to it where it very clearly wiggles up (towards the top of the phone) and down (towards the bottom). The volume buttons don't have this. Is anyone else experiencing this and is it normal? Thanks!

Mine does the same. I'm fairly sure that it's a normal thing. It's not really a big deal unless it falls out
It is normal. My Droid Maxx('s) have all been the same. Carry on enjoying the new phone.
It's normal, unless yours is hanging outside of the phone or something ridiculous. But yes, there is some "wiggle" on the power button.
I thought it was normal until my power button stopped functioning several hours ago (no more 'clicking'). I've had a cheap Diztronic rubber case around the outside and I never liked how the power button felt with or without the case. I've had the phone since a few days after it was released. Luckily I have it moforooted and I can turn the screen on and off through remaps until I can get a replacement.
Just a warning that the power button may be gentle and liable to damage easily (I haven't dropped it too much, and there's only minor scratches to the sides).
Did you end up ordering a power button replacement and that solved the issue for you? Thanks!

You can't get a replacement power button. I had my phone replaced and it fixed the power button issue. If you can order a replacement part, it's going to void your warranty by disassembling the phone to fix. I figure its not the button, its going to be the entire board that has the circuitry for the buttons on it so it's not some user replaceable part.
My power button does the same as what OP stated. Never had a problem with it though.

I'm not an expert by any stretch on the hardware of smart phones, but I'd be careful. If your phone is still under warranty, you may want to just send it in to be replaced (note they may reject it if it has bootloader unlock). I don't know if the power button pops out like the volume buttons, and again I'm not sure that the button itself is the problem. Anyway, just be careful, you don't want to rip the power button out and end up physically damaging your phone to the point it could be rejected for warranty replacement.
Perhaps one of the fellows in the direct hardware access thread can advise on whether you can simply pull the volume button out without breaking anything.
Hey guys
Just wanted to know if there is any way I could fix the power button to make it click. I picked up a Nexus 6 about a month ago used. The power button has no click to it,but I thought that was normal. But just today, I thought I would read into it because I noticed the volume buttons where clickey(never really use them) and that the power button should be too. How or can I fix the power button?
Thanks
hmm the power buttons works but there is no click?
Replace the power button/volume rocker flex cable it's all one unit. Easy to replace.

Hahaa. For you. I'm not opening my ****. If it works don't need no click.
It will fail soon enough.
I'm a technician. When these types of buttons lose the click, they fail soon after.

That's right. It feels terrible to press, plus some times when I press the power it doesn't turn on and I'm not sure if I pressed it hard enough....so usually I press very hard to make sure I don't have to press again. 90% of the time it comes right on.

Well, I did already take of the back to put on a real leather slickwrap skin(with replacement back) and the stock back was really on there(ripped off a piece of the plastic that stuck to the back cover), but I managed to get it off. Sucky part is, I'd have to rip it back off again and I'm not sure it will stick as well if I do that.
I just need to find the part I guess. I do think that eventually it might stop working.
pretty sure you can use a hair dryer or heat gun and get the back cover off rather easily, should be able to reapply it back again. here is a link to the power and volume buttons.

Maybe the small interconnect board that the flex cable of the side buttons has problem? The connectors on that one are quite lousy. Try to wiggle the flex while the phone is on and see if at any moment the power button works at least once. Other than that, it might be the upper connector that connects this board to the mainboard.
