Maybe the small interconnect board that the flex cable of the side buttons has problem? The connectors on that one are quite lousy. Try to wiggle the flex while the phone is on and see if at any moment the power button works at least once. Other than that, it might be the upper connector that connects this board to the mainboard.

Disassembled, and now the screen doesn't come on

Hey all
I disassembled my Touch Diamond to see if there was a bad solder on the mini usb (It would only charge if the cable was held in a certain way.)
I couldn't see anything wrong so I put it back together, but now the screen (The keys also dont light up) doesnt come on? But the phone seems to boot up fine, if I leave it for a while and I press the power button, it'll give me the sound to shut down.
I've also noticed if I press the volume keys, the screens lights up very slightly.
Any ideas?
I've disassembled and reassembled it a couple of times now, cant seem to find the fault.

OOPS!
Try inspecting the ribbon cable that connects the lcd screen and digitizer to the main board. You may have unhooked it somehow or possibly damaged it.

I've checked it, there doesnt seem to be any damage, and it appears to be connected correctly

You said earlier that if you push the volume keys it will sometimes light up...that sounds like a grounding problem. Check and make sure something around the power button is not askew. Also, (and this may sound stupid but trust me on this) don't tighten the screws down too tight. It messes with the d-pad.

Hey
Thanks again for taking the time again to reply.
Opened her up again a couple of time, still no luck.
I've tried various screws at different levels of tightness, still nothing.
I wish I knew what to tell you to try but I don't.
I guess take it in for repair so they can diagnose what the problem is.

Hi guys,
i cant switch on my phone at all. 3 combo button cant work too. my phones dead except for charging.

one day my phone just went to a black screen and thats that. i cant even power on my phone now.
just soldered the power button ribbon back. still not working.

Just read this....CLICK ME
Maybe it can help identify whether there is something else wrong with your phone or if your power button is still not working
Also there was a thread i believe in Q&A a while back where someone had broken his/her power button. So try the search again... GL

[Q] Power button hardware problem

Hi guys,
recently i just replaced my i9000 super amoled with a new screen. when i was replacing my screen, i accidentally damaged the power button ribbon on the mobo. so while waiting for my ribbon to ship over. i have been using small piece of metal to short the two pin in the mobo( which are the two pins power button ribbon is connected to) to switch on my phone. however, one day that method cant work anymore no matter how long short the pins together my phone wont switch on. im afraid i might damaged the power button controller chip as well.
and now my new power button ribbon is here. soldered it on. still doesnt work
any idea guys!? ((
anyone

That happened to me yesterday after i dropped the phone . I removed the back cover and the camera assembly, and i bended the metal case under the power button with a small flat screwdriver. It works now but the click feeling is weaker than before. I hope is going to last for a while ,,

Power button loose

My power button has some play to it where it very clearly wiggles up (towards the top of the phone) and down (towards the bottom). The volume buttons don't have this. Is anyone else experiencing this and is it normal? Thanks!

Mine does the same. I'm fairly sure that it's a normal thing. It's not really a big deal unless it falls out
It is normal. My Droid Maxx('s) have all been the same. Carry on enjoying the new phone.
It's normal, unless yours is hanging outside of the phone or something ridiculous. But yes, there is some "wiggle" on the power button.
I thought it was normal until my power button stopped functioning several hours ago (no more 'clicking'). I've had a cheap Diztronic rubber case around the outside and I never liked how the power button felt with or without the case. I've had the phone since a few days after it was released. Luckily I have it moforooted and I can turn the screen on and off through remaps until I can get a replacement.
Just a warning that the power button may be gentle and liable to damage easily (I haven't dropped it too much, and there's only minor scratches to the sides).
Did you end up ordering a power button replacement and that solved the issue for you? Thanks!

You can't get a replacement power button. I had my phone replaced and it fixed the power button issue. If you can order a replacement part, it's going to void your warranty by disassembling the phone to fix. I figure its not the button, its going to be the entire board that has the circuitry for the buttons on it so it's not some user replaceable part.
My power button does the same as what OP stated. Never had a problem with it though.

I'm not an expert by any stretch on the hardware of smart phones, but I'd be careful. If your phone is still under warranty, you may want to just send it in to be replaced (note they may reject it if it has bootloader unlock). I don't know if the power button pops out like the volume buttons, and again I'm not sure that the button itself is the problem. Anyway, just be careful, you don't want to rip the power button out and end up physically damaging your phone to the point it could be rejected for warranty replacement.
Perhaps one of the fellows in the direct hardware access thread can advise on whether you can simply pull the volume button out without breaking anything.
