Problems after installing JB - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had the original 2.3.6 in the phone and now i installed the Poland rom for JB (I9070XXLQE_I9070OXXLQE_XEO).
Now im experiencing random freezes in my phone. The first one was right at the initial setup, then entering the camera, sending a text.
I did a factory reset but nothing seems to happen.
Any ideas?
Also the battery now lasts like 8 hours.

I used Odin, yes. and this was the file i used: I9070XXLQE_I9070OXXLQE_HOME.tar.md5

I think custom kernel can help you. There were periods of heavy lag and freezes when I opened a game sometimes, or play videos. For some reason this problem persisted even after installing CoCore kernel (tried em all). Then I decided to try out other kernels, even though it's old I haven't experienced such a problem yet with thunderzap.
That is if your device is rooted/want to root. If not then nothing you can do except downgrading.
As for the firmwares I'm pretty sure they're all the same. Tried 3 different ones: lqe, lqb, lqg ; and heard a lot of complaints all over da interwebz
But there are many issues like bugs, lags, delays on JB, including shorter battery life.

How this kernel thing work?
How can i install this cocore one to try it? what are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

First, you will have to root your device, and install CoCore using the excellent Universal Kernel Flash application.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app

Noted.
And what version of this cocore i need to install? (and where can i download it)

6.8 version, you have the download link in cocore topic located in original android development subforum in s advance forum.

Also, for the lags, you should uninstall all crappy Samsung software (or at least freeze it), using Titanium Backup or SD Maid. You can find a list on these forums for that, but basically all Samsung Account, share all, chat on, etc are safe to delete.
Good luck!

Same Problems with JB Galaxy S Advance
I'm having the same kinds of problems as Buba once I used Kies to update my wife's stock, non-rooted Galaxy S Advance to JB...
I also after upgrading did a factory reset from within the "About Phone" menu, but that didn't seem to do anything to solve the problems with frequent freezes and core apps like Phone and Contacts that are deathly slow to open. None of those problems had occurred previously with the Gingerbread firmware that came with the phone at retail.
When you say "format the system" from the recover menu, is that the same or different thing from doing a factory reset?

We all have that deadly slow dialer and contact apps start... Format system will format everything, you will need to flash firmware if you do that. Suggestion: root, install CoCore6.8.

Some Roms just won't flash.

Hey,
I have a nexus, but my mate has the note. He is having all sorts of problems with it when it comes to flashing ROMs. I was hoping u smart people here might be able to help
What the problem is, is that only about one in 10 ROMs will install. He flashes the usual way... wipe everything, etc but either gets in a boot loop, or just Samsung comes up on the screen, it disappears and then comes back and this repeats. He has to then pull the battery. Another weird thing is that a ROM that may not have worked a few weeks ago, he tries it again and for some weird reason it works. So far he has never been able to flash an ICS ROM.
Any ideas? I've suggested to him to start completely afresh and use fast boot, etc again, but I'm no expert myself. I've never had any dramas myself with the nexus so this has me completely stumped....
Thanks
Dean

What method is he using to flash? If using pc Odin does the flash get stuck at factoryfs. Img?
Was he on ics stock and did he perform any factory resets on it?
If answers are yes, it's likely he's got traces of damage on his emmc chip, but we need to know where the flash is failing to understand further.

No and no.
His phone came with GB. He downloads the ROMs using his computer then transfers the zip to then flash using CWM recovery.
He has tried lots of different ROMs. He tried to install a new ROM the other day but before doing so he deleted a few ROMs he still had on the SD card. He flashed the new ROM and it didn't work. He freaked coz he didn't do a backup first, but he tried installed the ROMs that were still on the SD card and found them all but one to work, and the one that worked was a ROM that he had tried before but didn't work then, but this time it did work...
What is happening? Is there something he can do?

Try flashing rom with pc odin instead of cwm.
Check out Dr ketan sticky thread in rom development for directions on how to use pc odin. It's simple.
Let us know how you progress.

What exactly is the problem with the screen? Touch doesn't work? It flickers?

First of all, forgive my English, im from Costa Rica
Right now, I have Gingerbread 2.3.5, baseband i897uckk4 with GB bootloaders, rooted with I897UCKF1-AutoRoot-DesignGears and CornKernel_UCKK4_v706 (sorry if I do not give good information, but I'm new at this ...), I can install any firmware 2.3.5 and down, but when I try to install a custom firmware, half of the screen fails to respond and other times if not, try many custom firmwares like: X-Bean 3.0, Cyanogenmod 10,9,7 stables, nightlies, AOKP, AOSP, MIUI (by flashing in CWM), and none served me perfectly, and I really want to at least have ICS, and if you could, JB, something I noticed is that whenever I installed a custom firmware, my baseband changed to "I9000UGKG3" when normally with stock firmware, was "I897UCKK4"
I hope it can fix it , thanks to everyone at XDA,

The I9000UKG3 is your modem(baseband), not your ROM (firmware), so don't worry about that. As long as you have signal, you're fine.
Before flashing a Jb ROM, do you factory reset, clear cache/dalvik? Is the screen problem right at the start? Do you restore your apps?
Do you have the I9000 bootloaders or the I897 bootloaders?

Ok, We'll start from the beginning then, You can get in download mode right?
Grab Odin KK4 without bootloaders, Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 and put the ROM (and Gapps) you wanna flash in the root of your internal SD. Flash KK4, boot up and make sure everything is fine. Once that's done, get back in download and flash Corn kernel.
From there, you can flash the ROM and the Gapps that go with it.
I believe you went through those steps already but hopefully we can find what's wrong by re-trying/reproducing the problem. Oh and don't restore any apps before trying it.
If that doesn't work, I'm thinking you might have the wrong Gapps or wrong bootloaders but first time I hear of a screen that doesn't work on JB but does on GB.
EDIT:
I just went through the thread to see that you already have KK4 and Corn on your phone. You don't need DesignGear to root, you can go in Corn's recovery to root your phone. Now, after re-reading, you said that sometimes it's iresponsive, what exactly do you mean by that? it takes a while to register your touch? locks up and you get no response for a few seconds?
Usually that's from lack of free ram. So a app sucking it all up. Have you tried JB (with the right Gapps) without restoring your apps?
PS.: You shouldn't restore your app with TiBu coming from GB, you can restore their data but should fresh download the apps from the market.

If screen fails again, I'm starting to think it might be a hardware issue.

Usually when you boot the phone, it shows SGH-897 but it doesn't matter, I could be wrong.
As for the hardware issue, just like some Sleep of Death (SoD) issue, it's something that a software can't fix, it's something broken within the phone (hardware). I don't know if it's the case here but it's always a possibility, especially if the phone was dropped before, the screen connector might need to be pushed back into place.

You can get Odin KK4 with bootloaders. There's a risk of bricking your phone when you flash bootloaders though. There are needed to be on ROMs that are GB and up but I think you already have them.
As for the hardware thing, like I mentioned before, it could be like SoDs, where the phone will randomly shut off when you're using a ISC/JB ROM.

How about when the charger is connected? It may be your battery that is screwed up. Or maybe some rogue app that is consuming your resources.

This should keep you free of your problems.

Help...My note just completely died (sgn 7000)

Was running RRv1 JB, woke up to a screen asking a question in german, no idea what it was. i rebooted and went into a "samsung galaxy note" boot loop. Rebooted recovery, and tried to dirty install RRv1 over the existing version, wiped davlik and cache partition first and then midway though the install my phone went black, never to show a flicker of light ever again.
It was at 100% charge when this all started, i tried replacing the battery with a spare...nothing. It doesnt seem to want to take a charge and there seems to be nothing I can do to get even a spark of life here.

U should have done full wipe, data, cache and dalvik all. Try doing it now if you can enter recovery...
I can't, the phone seems dead. I'm hoping for some insights in regards to that

So my note is still dead, it won't charge...nothing.
I have a new sgn2 New but it's still like to get the note1 working again. What would you do if you were me at this point, Samsung tech support?

no recovery, then I dont know. Did you flash a non n7000 rom on phone?
If you do have recovery, old known issue, perform the wipes on save kernel and reinstall rom should fix it.
Best go to different rom and or use Phills kernel with the fix included.
That should do it, all at own risk

I have no power, it won't take a charge, it won't turn on even when I put a fully charged battery in it.
I'm asking if anyone knows of a list of things to do when your phone is in this condition. Are there certain things to check by taking the phone apart, I'd there anything I might be able to do, or must I send it away to Samsung?

I think so, I have no experience here.
I think you flashed a non n7000 rom. Search on how people fixed that

Phone shuts down after reboot

I have been experiencing this for a while: after rebooting my phone, the exact momment it finishes booting up, it starts shutting down, no matter what custom ROM I have flashed, so it makes me believe it's not ROM related, but related to the bootloader or something like that. after banging my head against the wall for so long I couldn't find any solution, so I'd like to know what's your opinion about it.
Edit: forgot to mention I've tried all the routine methods, cleaning dalvik/cache, wiping system, data and even internal storage without any success, that's why I believe it is bootloader related, but I'm no expert so... If this issue has been addressed here please show me where as I've become empty handed

i have seen this happening only when the custom kernel is not compatible with the rom installed. the bootloader has nothing to do. we just unlock it to install a different recovery image that help us install any kernel and any rom
I'm using the CM10.1.3 right now with its stock kernel and it still happens... It annoys me so freaking much

Maybe you should reflash the .kdz file to be completely stock. If this problem still occurs, it's definitely nor ROM related.
