Since Android OS is an open source project and free to be obtained by manufacturers and developers, Sony Mobile allows participation of developers and enthusiasts to create better firmware for all Xperia devices. Earlier this year, the Xperia Z Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update became open for participants to contribute changes, suggestions and other features to be included.
The CyanogenMod 10.1 grows in popularity especially with Xperia phones and when certain news is being posted by the Sony Xperia pages themselves in Facebook. Developers of CyanogenMod announced an upcoming new camera features for selective Sony Xperia devices such as the Xperia V. It is similar to the Sony's stock camera app, except it is with more functionality.
New Camera Features and Devices Selected
The CyanogenMod 10.1 will have Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS version and the upcoming camera features include High-Dynamic Range or HDR for photos and videos, ISO modes, scene modes, shutter speed and Sony's image/video stabilisation.
Selected Sony Xperia devices are the Xperia T, Xperia V, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and the Xperia Tablet Z. CyanogenMod developers haven't detailed the exact timeline when would these new camera features be released and hit the 10.1 version of the custom ROM.
Free Xperia Project
A group of CyanogenMod Xperia "maintainers" called Free Xperia Project supports Xperia-based custom ROMs and continually enhances distribution of the Android OS through a wide variety of phones and tablets.
The Free Xperia Project supports CM 7, CM 9, CM 10 and CM 10.1 versions, according to their Web site. Users are required to unlock their device's boot loader to be able to install CyanogenMod ROMs and enjoy a whole new user experience.

Source.
GSMArena also mentions that there's more to come, maybe CM 10.1 users would get some Sony apps.
Any thoughts? I'm very happy about this. Instead of hopping on the "google edition" bandwagon, they actively support the dev community and encourages them, they also push continuous updates to old devices and don't leave their users hanging out to dry. Excellent move Sony.

Yes, a phone with a non-removable battery needs a button combo for a reset(battery removal equivalent) which can only be implemented on a hardware level.
Well these are good news but IMHO CM team should first solve the stability problems related to camera and image apps that are the resposible of a big part of the rebootspresent on CM 10.1, and then they should improve the camera possibilities.
Maybe Sony could help cm with a good stable cm10.1 for the Xperia T

For me, it's bad news
It show, how "weak" Sony developer to deliver "normal" stock for user
Of course, we have advantages too, we have open source
But the next question, who will build custom rom for us like CM ?
Not many developers nowadays
XD
yep sucks that Sony has less users than Samsung (almost no one here...), they have the worst base but because of the mass they still have a better cm10.1 in the end and about 100 times as much roms...

IMO if you want to install custom ROMs and mod the crap out of your device, you better buy either a Nexus or a Sony phone. Nexus for obvious reasons and Sony because they support the Android developer community the best by far out of any manufacturer.
But how come there is no Xperia V news so far?
i hope cynogen can combined the camera with sony, becuz compare it and sony in my xperia v, same pic same distance i take, it a bit blurred, with sony camera, very sharp and clear,
anyway, i hope it become a successful project for both to improve xperia v, tx, t and tl

Hello everyone,
Over the last three or so years I have made my way through a lot of phones, always in-search of the 'perfect' one.
I've settled on the Nexus range because I love stock Android and have found the hardware to be acceptable.
For my next foray into a 2013 phone I'm thinking of getting the HTC One and pairing this with Cyanogenmod, when it becomes available.
This to me would be the best physical hardware, in both appearance and materials of any Android device, and software.
Something akin to this!

So the reason for this thread is to gain input from those who have used both Stock and Cyanogenmod.
Am I going to be satisfied with the move?
Visually things are the same? The use the same assets?
What problems could arise? What should I be aware of when compared with Stock?
Any other thoughts or opinions you may have. Please keep it in-line with the HTC One and Cyanogenmod.
Many thanks.
Off-topic but when I look at that Black picture I find it sooo cool.
CyanogenMod will most likely come to the device. I don't see why it wouldn't. It'll also look just like CyanogenMod on your Nexus devices. But you can be assured that it won't come easily. It'll be harder to build than a nexus device, and early builds are likely to have bugs that will need to be worked out

I've never rooted a device to put any ROM other than an update to Stock. I guess what I'd like to know is what the differences are between stock and Cyanogenmod. If the experience of using them is nearly 90% the same, then I'll be happy. If it's further away than that, I'll have to force myself to wait for the Nexus 5 and hope it brings some premium materials.
Re: blingfeed annoying
Is it worth it. I love it but even on the one x was frustrating due to not being able to use the camera to it's full potential.it would fly on here but you'd lose a lot on this device. Which would be a shame
(No doubt if be trying it still if it was here though and get frustrated again lol)

I had the last 'perfect one' - the legendary HTC HD2 - since it came out.
I dropped the first one I owned and almost sold the insurance replacement to buy a different phone.
I was tempted many times by the hypegasm of new fangled phones but, really, what were they adding that the venerable HD2 couldn't already do? Nothing really.
Glad I made the choices I did.
Wait and see, all these answers can be answered by yourself ...

By default, it is basically identical, with a few improvements (T9 dialing).
However, there are many options to customise it - adding different shortcuts to the lockscreen ring (up to five, I think), quick-toggles in the notification shade, "quiet hours" (a setting which silences your phone during certain times of the week)..
The list is exhaustive.
CyanogenMod is much better than stock, imo, notification toggles are much better (and less complicated) than the quick-settings panel.
i wouldn't buy this device based on getting CM10. i think it's going to be quite awhile for both this phone and the s4. if you want a pure Google experience id look into the n4 or wait and see if the n5 is going to be announced at google io in may.

Already have the Nexus 4. Mainly interested in the external hardware look and feel of the One, it's the Android equivalent of the iPhone 5 . I doubt Google will announce a new Nexus device at I/O, but I could be wrong.
I'm looking for opinions of those who've used both Stock and Cyanogenmod extensively. What they like and don't like.

I didn't read the question properly lol. Mate if your a fan of pure android stick with the nexus.I love both so I'm okay. But pure...there's a lot to be said for how quick everything runs. Though I wouldn't pass on the one.

Thing is, stock rom (Sense) tend to have better battery life than CM10. Stock roms (Sense) are more optimised for the system. I've noticed this since my battery was a lot less when I had the S2, S3, HTC One X etc using CM10.
I also feel this may get a quicker/less buggy release than the S4 with exynos 5. I imagine samsung wont release any info for the exynos 5 like they havent for the exynos 4. The S600 variants will probably be fine but that may give the One an advantage.
it makes no sense to buy a HTC One or any phone for that matter to just put stock android on it.. you lose half the features the phone came with (even if their are gimmick or not)
You should just buy a Nexus device.. because in the end thats all you trying to get..
You are buying the HTC One for design.. not for its features..
The processors wouldn't be any difference in notice.. unless you plan on running HD 1080P videos every second of the day and playing games like "Dead trigger, Real Racing etc every day"

The main difference between stock android and cyanogenmod are featured n options. There are a lot more settings, n tweaks and ways to persoalize it the way you want. There are also variations of CM like aokp, paranoidandroid, etc which add even more options and customizations. Also there will be sense roms with things added/removed l, etc that you may like. The great thing about Roms is that you can change the whole look ans feel of your phone within minutes. Best thing for you to do is go over to like the HTC EVO 4g LTE forum or the HTC ONE X forum and look thru the android and original android development sections at all the toms and get an idea what is out there. Any aosp rom would be cm like stock android and any sense is just that tweaked stock sense.
Now that almost all Xperia's had their update I wonder why there's no plan from Sony to update our T to JB 4.2.2 ? I don't remember reading any info about an upgrade. No ETA, nothing and even a confirmation that it will be in future?
I won' t flood XperiaBlog like they did for S and Ion, but we should claim our due in Sony forum!
If anyone has infos that I missed...
S and Ion have 4.2? can't believe that and I'm too lazy to check.

Ion and S never got 4.2.2. We don't need to get certifcation or leaks for a 4.2.2 update. We are probably the next but who knows. Sony could be making a update right now but nobody knows about it
I wrote maybe now it has official 4.2 but that's not long ago so what did I miss?
okay ZU and Z have 4.2 since 2 weeks or so, wow and you want to start complaining now?

I guess Sony must focus on Xperia ZU project

I didn't say that all xperia's have 4.2.2. I just said that all devices have been upgraded to their respective latest software, no matter if it's 4.1.2 or 4.2.2.
So now it's time to claim support from Sony for XT, or at least a confirmation from Sony that it will be upgraded in a near future.
I'm guessing it'll be at the end of this year. Just speculation though
the time will come, just relax and be patience.:good:
I agree now that Sony has finished the 4.1.2 update cycle for its phone catalog and have now started the 4.2 update cycle ie. Z I do feel it is time for Sony to give us some information with regards to the next upgrade. I am not too fussed about when the update is coming, my device is running brilliantly and I havent read much relevant improvements in 4.2 or even the information about the leaked 4.3 update. I would jut like to know 'IF' the update is coming and what Sony features they will bring. ie Improved camera, Stamina mode, PS3 controller support etc. (all these could come in a 4.1.2 future update for all I care).
Actually, considering Sony is working with CM, we might get more than a camera
What is the deal with 4.2.2 anyway. Only the lockscreen? Why do you guys always complain that sony doesnt update. I understand if it was from 2.3 to 4.0. But its from 4.2 to 4.2 . Nothing is changed expect lockscreen. And toggles but for nexus devices. If sony rushed updates, your phones would lag just like nexus ones. Let them optimise...
They just complain about 4.2.2 slow update
Yeah, I see many Nexus user complain about memory leak in 4.2.2
XD
Skip 4.2.2, go to 5 directly, lol!

Even if Sony is working on updates for Xperia T and gang, you guys will be probably get it sometime later. They still have Xperia L and Xperia SP to upgrade and mind you, both of them have different SOCs. But I confident Sony will upgrade Xperia T and gang. If you noticed, Sony now doesn't give timelines for Android 4.2 upgrade. It's just suddenly pop out for Xperia Z/ZL. Previously, Sony said JB 4.1 for Xperia P will come FROM the end of March. Unfortunately, Xperia P users refused to read English properly and assumed it's the "at the end of March" instead of the official "from the end of March", causing an unnecessary uproar.

If Sony wants to keep from going bankrupt than they should make the customers happy no matter what or they just lose more money until the ps4 flops and doesn't hold them together and bankruptcy Sony.
Sony needs to get there **** strait and strive to be better than the rest of the phone manufacturers. Samsung is spanking them mainly because... they give out updates faster and in more of a timely manner than Sony.
If Sony truly wants to help CM they will release the code so the phones can run AOSP and not the ****ty Sony android software that's always extremely late.
Cheers
I prefer late but have more stabilty rather than fast update but cause many issue and bug

Lol. Don't worry. Sony profited Q4 in their financial year, though I must point out they disposed some of their fixed assets. PS4 isn't a flop, and their financial, music, entertainment, gaming and insurance branch is making money. I must point, most consumers DON'T CARE about Android upgrades. Most only upgrade only when their phone tells them too. It's only this little community in XDA, that will go mad about it. Sony sold more smartphone than HTC, Nokia and Motorola already and recently broke into Europe's top three. So don't worry. Even if Sony abandons the whole Xperia T range (unlikely), their sales will not be affected at all.

EXACTLY. Even the extremely popular SAMSUNG S3 doesn't even have 4.2 yet.
Its not a Sony issue. ALL manufacturers of phones are slow at releasing updates.
The advantage to Sony is it is becoming well known in the communities is the QUALITY of the software running on Sony devices is much much better than the other companies.
At the end of the day it is the quality and not the latest bells and whisltes that matters. As I have said before Android has slowed down and not really brought anything new to the table since 4.1 which we are currently on the advancments have been in what Sony have bolted into the setup.

It is brilliant, so brilliant that I moved to this from my Nexus 4. Sony UI is something I can live with for a very long time due to everything being minimalistic and close to stock but better than stock in every way. I do agree even though SONY has its flagship Z1 Z and Z ultra, this is the sleeping giant workhorse that they need to highlight.

Same here, I came from a Galaxy Nexus (Nexus S, Nexus One, and HTC G1 before that) and although I prefer stock Android, it lacks so many features. I found Sony's UI clean and refreshing without trying too hard. I haven't found a need to root this baby yet. My ZR on 4.1 does way more than my GNexus on 4.3 (minus the root features of course) out of the box. The small apps and killer camera are the icing on the cake. With that said, I like Sony's design and UI that I'm willing to upgrade my nexus 7 to an Xperia Tablet Z in the near future.

Nice idea for our future.
I remember DoomLord replied that he probably won't be developing for XZR since he doesn't own the device.
Not sure if donation can help that though...
with such good specs at a low price i dont get why this is a low activity device...:crying:
yeah.. i think we can blame sony itself for this problem... I really like the ZR and I have it now.. been so satisfied with it... but, yeah, too few development.. and it will get only worst because sony will be launching the z1 mini.. which is really comparable to the zr... sony is trying to follow samsung - flooding the market with too many models that are closely similar to one another..
if someone heads up a donation box for Doomlord for him to buy the zr, I would gladly donate 50 dollars...

there's 4 page development on Acro S! It's not much but still for a phone that expensive yet doesn't seem to have any great hardware it's quite much developments!
but for this phone that runs smoothly and better comparing to Xperia Z, ZL and has less size and less resolution (about 1/4 times which makes battery run double times) and less mass I think this device get fairly low attention comparing to others!! even for a developer this one must be much more exciting than Xperia Z!

sort of, however, sony priced the zr as if a flagship. truth to be told, it's marketed as a flagship in japan (xperia a), and it's no slug. still, with the relatively small price difference between z and zr, it's easy to see why people will get the z instead. the z is also released 6 month earlier.
besides, zr isn't released in as many markets as z.
as i've said before, since zr shares much with z, as long as development for z is there, zr will likely be supported as well, but without a dedicated dev using zr him/herself, it's hard to picture a very good development environment.
unless sony discount the zr significantly very soon. this is likely to continue.
(before you ask, japanese seem to have their own commnity and aren't participating in xda, so their large nos. mean nothing to us)
Why worry.. as long as there is Z development, we can port almost EVERYTHING to ZR (including ROM's an Kernels)
One more reason is that people who do contribute are not thanked properly I think.
totally agree
well i had a few devices before and now i have htc one s S4, galaxy s4, xperia ZR, iphone 5
before xperia ZR between all of my phone i would stand and say htc one s and iphone 5 have best batteries between my devices, between xperia x8, xperia acro S, Xperia go, xperia V, galaxy S3, iphone 5, galaxy s4, but now i can say ZR beat my one S battery and not only on battery it beats the battery on my one s it beats the performance of S4 it beats the options of all of my previous xperia phones, and when it comes to heat it even beats the hell out of my iphone too it hardly produce any heat in my hands specially compared to xperia V and galaxy s4.
this is an amazing device guys no doubt about it but why were we looking for development in the first place? when we had good hardware and sh**** software with cra*** software support we would come here and look for help, but we still have updates and support and this device is almost (not fully) complete it doesnt need overclock it doesnt need more battery saving options it doesnt need so much bug fixes.
the only thing it need is a better front camera which is impossible with firmware and kernels so most of all a few ports and customizations remains which is not totally important right?
when i first had my xperia acro S it didnt have any custom firmware for a very long time the only thing was available = rooting my device! believe me for a very long time it was like this.
so my advice is to take your time guys relax if something came out use it if not dont be disappointed you wont miss so much you still have a great device with so many good things on it.

This is EXACTLY why I'm still on locked BL! but anyway our device has lack of roms like Cyanogen Mod, AOSP, PAC MAN, AOSPA (Paranoid) and also bug free miui port! (which I like Pranoid and miui so much) I'm currently working on a port for miui (stock based one) but this is something hard to get! currently I'm getting bootloop at kernel and as I don't want to unlock my bootloader (I love BE2 ) it's really hard to get it booting, and I'm not sure if any developer wants to contribute or if I get any further than this but I'm trying to make it bookable at least
EDIT: good news is I just saw the miui boot screen, bad news is it's not more than 2 sec and still I don't have adb
EDIT: Do you guys have made or downloaded any rom based on stock 4.2.2? would you mind give me updater-script in your zip file /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
Thanks
EDIT: another good news is, got logcat ( have permission problems ) it would be great if anyone can give me an updater-script from downloaded or made stock rom (both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 are welcome) please pm me
Hi
just wondering, is the phone to new or why isnt there almost any custom rom for this phone?
regards.

It's shadowed by Z and ZL previously, and then Z Ultra and Z1 released not too long after ZR, plus ZR is released only in specific regions... so........ it's not standing out to the devs.

Weird. Its a better phone than the z/zl but the z/zl gets all the attention
Sent from my Xperia Acro S using xda app-developers app
it's only "better" because it uses the same hardware but a lower resolution so it doesn't have to power such a big screen and thus the overall speed is faster... it does not make it "better"...
the Z/ZL were released in April while ZR only started selling around mid-June.
also, they are available worldwide, and the Z is the first flagship of 2013 so naturally it will get the most attention, unlike the ZR which is only available in like... idk 15 countries? maybe less...
so unless there happens to be a dev who happens to have a ZR who happens to want to make custom roms for you and i to use for free, we won't be seeing much activity around here. just live with it... or get a Z/Z1/ZL... if you want custom roms i suggest u try CM... afterall most other custom roms are based on them anyway...

Or donate some money to a ROM developer. I donated some bitcoins to FreeXperia since us ZR owners couldn't use CM without them.
The question already says everything.
I love the specs of the phone, finally a flagship which has all I personally need.
When it gets the amount of Custom Roms of the Z1 i really want to buy the Z2.
Furthermore 6 GB Ram sounds really tasty.
I'd like to think so. See no reason why not.
I was literally on the cusp of buying the Xiaomi Mi5, but this appears far superior, except perhaps the lack of NFC.
ZUK Z1 wasn't very popular, but it kind of missed the boat. Seems ZUK have dropped this phone right at the correct time. Xiaomi isn't making it easy to get the Mi5 and the OP3 hasn't dropped yet.
Be nice if CyanogenOS 13 was on it.....
Well instead i think not...in the last days if you follow the official european distributor facebook's page they told a lot of bad things about Cyanogen, the last one is this:

Then i think that is really hard...however i don't think that they will stop international avalaibility but probably they will translate the ZUI..or maybe they have a sort of Android version for global market (like One Plus with Oxygen OS), let's wait and see!
don't know if I could go back to a phone without wireless charging but otherwise it sounds great

Okay looking at their Facebook page seems unlikely they wanna use CM again... so hopefully its unlocked so there will be good development for this phone to change ZUI.
There is intl version of lenovo rom though.
Anybody knows, is english language include in it and can i use it in Europe?
So i hope that CM is coming in the unlocked version.

For me a translated ZUI or another Chinese rom is a NOGO.
The rest of the phone (but the battery) looks very good....

Given the fact that you already have Z1, why do you say that Cm implementation would be better and ZUI is a no go?

Of course. You are right. But with an unlocked bootloader and open sources we can get our beloved CM and Toms and the people who wants to stay on the Zuks UI can do it.

Agree of course. I didn't want to sound offensive But tbh, I only have had zuk z1 in my hands for maybe 5 days. And CM was as buggy as ZUI. So I'll wait for xda users "reviews" rather than some *izmo**** websites review. And then I will decide. On paper it looks good so far

What is Toms ?
based on what i read in a couple of sites - it says there is no international ver of the device.
hope it will be proved to be wrong.
Looks like no international version. China only.
It won't come with cm, although I think it would be an open source software and would be a peace of cake making Nexus ROM based .. So I don't mind.
Engadget updated their article to say a Lenovo rep confirmed China availability only: http://www.engadget.com/2016/04/21/zuk-z2-pro-lenovo/
Maybe it will still come with an unlocked bootloader though, however resellers prices will likely prove to be less attractive...

Ciao @oile,
it's a very personal opinion. I dislike actually every ROM that is not AOSP based. Material design is brilliant and implemented in all major apps. Switching from a material design app (e.g. Gmail) to a very chinese stile (e.g. ZUI) is very inconsistent.
I'm not a Cyanogen fanboy (I'd be happy with something similar to what OnePlus did with Oxygen OS) but the stability, performance and features of COS 12.1 on the Z1, are almost perfect for my usage pattern.
Long story short: it's a very personal preference of Android as it was designed by Google with some nice additional features.

Ciao @branzoll,
unfortunately in my long experience of flashing CM and ASOP roms I never found am implementation that was perfect (lower than stock camera quality, bad radio drivers (GPS), lower than stock battery life). The two best CM/COS implementation I tryied were on ZUK Z1 and OPO!!
I hope I'll be wrong but I struggle to think of full sources sharing. No OEM want/can have a full release (see Sony and their willingness to share stopped by the legal issue with Quallcom).
I lost the hope of a perfect custom AOSP rom that is not a official commercial one (COS/Oxygen/some Mediatek ROMs).
