[IMHO] The "rumors" and "Sense" on HTC One - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Scene,
I've noticed the rumors since start of HTC One and before. My opinion to write this is that i'm coming from HTC One X to One since i heared the rumors of One. Many (custom) ROM's and S-Off later of One X (and One) i came to the conclusion, that the rumors (in my opinion) of pure android (4.0.1/4.1.1/4.1.2/4.2.2/4.3.0 ...) are useless. Why ? The OS and it's rudimental state surely brings the hardware to life but, that isn't enough. Some of you pimped up stock Android so that it's usable and quite fascinating again, but I've to take up the cudgels for HTC and it's "Sense" because their "Sense" really make sense ! It's not only the way HTC transform Android customizable, no it's the way how HTC expand and gear cuts grundbreaking features (that results to) usable and powerful system state of the art. I won't mess up with stock Android anymore (and the pimps); "Sense" is the way how it should be ! Go 4 Mike1986 ...
regards,
LP

BELL Incredible S or Atrix

i need to upgrade my htc legend with BELL and i have the choice of Atrix or the Incredible S from BELL. I'm torn between a stable HTC with Sense UI or future proof and more powerful phone with motoblur crap. I posted the question in the Atrix and now here to have both perspective.... i hope its ok
Coming previously from HTC Touch where i first experienced Windows Mobile computing, the ability of changing ROMS, then ported ANdroid ROMS which imo the best experience of them all with all the hacking/mod abilities...
So now my only criteria is the phone must be an Android phone... because it has such a large user based and hacking community in general...My current HTC Legend, is a great phone especially after the Froyo update, very responsive but its lacking the storage capcity...
This is why i'm changing my HTC Legend which is still stock ... i read about rooting it but it was a bit too complicated to root it without going through hoops and loops . So I didnt bother... and im running out of space
I've read a few reviews about incredible S and atrix... and although the atrix looks superior on paper... i wasnt impressed by the motoblur and the few videos i saw...
The Motorola Atrix hardware is futureproof but only if Motorola decide to release new upgrades to take advantage of the hardware... i heard some bad things that based on history, i shouldnt bet on getting upgrades... is this true? If i'm not getting the upgrades from Motorola, this is why i think the hacking community plays an important role to get the best out of this wonderful piece of hardware ( like the HTC Touch in its time ). Apart from the wonderful beedfed up hardware ... i havent seen anything good... in fact i saw a few threads about rebooting problems, issues...etc and bloatware , not being able to install non market apk and motoblur ( which i only saw in the 1st generation motorola blur in the android 1.5 phone cant recall the name of the phone)
The Incredible S seems to be a more stable phone and i personally like the SENSE UI and HTC in general. I havent seen a lot of negative reviews or problems. COming form the HTC family, i tend to trust it more than Motorola. The 8MP cam is a plus but the inability to root is sad... at least some dev are working on it ...
Does the success of rooting the IS depend on the popularity of the phone ? I have the impression its because we have a few experienced guru but not enough to crack it ... or is this ROM too hard to find any weakness...
I ask myself the same question about 2 weeks ago (aslo with bell) and decide to go with the HTC incredible S. Like oyu said the atrix loog good on paper but that's it. (well on what i read) I have my Incredible for not even a weeks now and i'm loving it. I,m very satisfied by... i would say evrey part of it. Did not have any problem, enjoying all the apps and still looking for new tricks.
I honestly tink that the s-off and root will come just in time.
I have faith in the XDA family, and eventually this phone will get cracked. Here in the States, Verizon has released the HTC Droid Incredible 2, so that should also spur more work to get the S-off and rooting going. Its only a matter of time, and many other HTCs have been rooted in the past.

Incredible S or Nexus S

Hi guys,
Using a Nexus S right now and a buddy is offering me his unlocked IS. I am very tempted because of the faster processor and more memory but the locked bootloader and lack of developer support (compared to other phones) is becoming a big turn off. Value wise, the IS or even the DHD is a sure bet but again, support is key to a successful phone and it doesn't get better than google's Nexus family.
What do you think?
But I'm seeing a lot of custom roms, are they fully functional and bug free? As good as the ones on the HD forums?
Remember, this is a phone released in March/April! Developer support will grow significantly once AlphaRevX has released the public beta for S-OFF, letting you put custom roms onto the IS.
To note, it's more of the question of whether you want to use Sense UI for the time being or be open to use other roms.
In terms of hardware, its similar - asside from the cameras, 8.0 and 1.3 Megapixels respectively.
You can't go wrong if its FREE, however its solely up to you.
I need some help deciding lol
Someone's offering me a desire hd with an otterbox case and the other guy an IS. Same price and all.
Are the IS roms stable, fast and as good as the ones on the HD?
I've never been this undecided! )

I don't root my phone nor put custom rom on it, so cannot comment on rom. But between DHD and IS, I came from DHD, because of the size, screen quality, battery life, weight, no ffc, and other stuff, I sold it and bought IS which IMO is the best HTC single core phone.
Regarding rootability, I don't mind too much but I do believe time will solve all the problem, there will be always ways to make things happened.

That.
The S-LCD in the Incredible S is probably one of the best displays i've ever seen on a mobile handset (aside from S-AMOLED displays). The viewing angles are spectacular, no wash out whatsoever unless it's a really extreme angle. AND the colours are really vivid.
Despite the DHD having a 4.3" display vs a 4.0" display, the IS beats it hands down in the display department
yeah i have used DHD and IS and IS beats DHD by a mile
Both phones are similar from a spec standpoint. I think the Incredible S feels better in the hand. Nexus S felt cheap to me. Nexus S will get updates first but once the Incredible S is rooted there will be a custom rom for any updates the Nexus S gets in the future.

My IS is rooted and Mike1986 Rom is 100% working and stable, never had a single force close. Speed is instant, no delays anywhere.
I have this same dilemma but it's the opposite. I have the Incredible S. Sigh.

My phone is very smooth w/o root.... Gingerbread...... Everything is perfect and I don't feel the need for root.... I tried both nexus s and IS personally I felt sense more productive in day to day work and more beautiful too.... My battery lasts a day easily and display is on par with super amoled.... There are some unique features of sense that I like .... Say for example... Flip to silent... Volume boost when in pocket....and volume reduce when u lift the phone.... These make the phone more useful.... Plus the build quality is better than Samsung.... Anytime... And design is unique... All these make it desirable.....

Your friends IS may even have an unlocked bootloader right now. I've heard the GPS chip in nexus s is crap aswell. It was a dilemma for me too as I was trying to choose between the same phones. I ultimately went for this one though and haven't regretted it at all. One thing I would have liked in theory though is the contactless payment chip as I think McDonald's offer that now

i have both: Inspire 4G (US version of the Desire HD) and a factory s-off'd Bell Incredible S. i've rooted both and am using sense 3.0 roms on both. ( lights at bottom aren't working yet with Sense 3.0 on the Inc S. ) the Inc S display is better than my Inspire and it's easier to carry. also seems to be a little faster than my Inspire, but not enough to sway me away from the Inspire. the smaller screen can be an issue for some (but not me); yes (to me) .3 inches makes a difference with some things like font size in email. not a show stopper though.
bottom line: i don't think you can go wrong with either one. i use the Inc S for work and the Inspire for "play".
Hi Cortez,
I have Inc S for playing, including NON-succesfully obtain s-off by alpharevx ;p my work is rely on HD2, larger screen give me comfort in reading email and sms. I do like sense very much due to the keyboard layout with cursor up-dwon, right-left keys, it make not neccessary to touch text area when typing email/sms. Plain GB Rom (Nexus for example) is fast, but sense give us very good Mail Client. Easier to read/send email (even gmail) on sense mail client rather than by default gmail apps on the default ROM. I tried to put sense keyboard into plain android rom, but No Lucks. since Im not dev or rom chef. I cook rom for fun and for personal use, not for public Is there any GB rom based on plain (nexus) with sense keyboard and mail client (?) sense is another layer on the plain android rom and htc cook very nice and well polished.

[Q] Broken between the Sense Edition and the Google Edition

So, I had my heart set on the One with Sense since it was announced and heard nothing but good reviews about it, but then the Google Edition was recently announced, it's basically a Super-Nexus. I currently have a Nexus 7 and a Droid X2 running CM10, so I'm familiar with Jellybean and like it very much!
So when I heard about the Nexus edition of the One, I was amazed. But then, I remembered since it's running stock Jellybean, it won't have the HTC only features like Zoe among others.
I'm open to the idea of changing the ROMs to get stock android if I bought the One with Sense on it...wait, is there a ROM that you can install to change to Sense 5 if I bought the Google edition!? That would be perfect if there was because I could try Sense if I wanted, but have Stock as my default and get all of Google's updates immediately!
I basically have to choose between:
HTC's Sense with all the Sense features and change the ROM to get to stock android. Slow to no OTA updates from Google.
Stock android with constant updates from Google as soon as they come out AND the stock experience. (Can still change the ROM)
I known this is a forum for the Sense HTC One, but what do you guys think? If you had this choice what would you do?
I just bought my HTC One a week ago, already having in mind that a Google Edition will be coming out, but as I don't live in the USA and given that it's going to be exclusive for the time being that wasn't such a big deal to me.
But I'm actually quite convinced that you are going to be able to switch from Sense to AOSP and vice versa, because they're the exact same hardware. Remember that tweak for the Optimus G that allowed you to basically turn it into a Nexus 4 from a software stand point? I'm sure there will be something similar to that and even if it's not supported officially, developers are going to find one way or another
I could even imagine something like an RUU to turn a regular One into a Google Edition. Well the 26th isn't that far away now, we'll see...
yes u will be able to switch roms

There are several stock like roms with sense 5 in the android development section.
Read through and see which one suits you best.
Get the sense one. We already can change the phones identity so making it a Google edition shouldn't be any different

The HTC camera is enough of a reason for me not to care about

Just get either one, it doesn't matter much, to be honest. The Google Edition one has an unlocked bootloader and is probably S-OFF, and you can do both on the Sense edition as well. You can install any ROM you want on either one with no problems, whether sense-based or AOSP.
If u want a super nexus than this isn't the phone for you. Its not a nexus and never will be. I would go with the sense to get the great features. If you want stock it's better to get a nexus. (Just my opinion)

Why sense-roms are so popular?

Hey there,
i'm having my HTC for around 2 months now and never hold a senserom more than 15 minutes.
So, no matter on what forum i look, sense roms are much more popular and famous than GPE or even CM roms.
With my older Phones (Galaxy ace, Galaxy S plus, Galaxy S3) CM roms were (or still are) more popular, but on the HTC sense roms are much more popular. Whats the point?
I mean.. ok no doubt, the sense camera is awesome! But blinkfeed? Who needs it? Or at least who is using it?
Other than that.. Beats audio? GPE Rom has it too, just without the icon on the statusbar.
GPE Roms are faster and not full of bloat (IMO!)
So what's the real point behind this?
It's NOT a fighting thread or a thread like "OMG! Sense roms suck QQ mimimi" NO! I just want to know why you guys like sense roms much more? I'm just curious
I prefer the UI, being able to arrange my apps in folders without using the home screen. I actually use BlinkFeed quite a for my technology/science news.
I don't really find any bloat.
Most people buy HTC because of Sense, atleast I do. I prefer HTC's style over any other oem's.

For me I just like it due to the fact its something different. My last 3 devices have had things like CM, SlimBean, etc. which are all more or less stock. I feel sense is minimal enough that its still snappy (not like touchwiz IMO) and I kind of like the sense lock screen on how it displays information. Thats just my opinion at least
I prefer aosp roms too. But WiFi calling is a must for me, and no other carrier has better rates.

This thread is the equivalent of saying "why do people like different stuff than me"
Short answer: aosp got boring.
Long
Had gs2. Cm was the only way to get on point android updates that year.
Sense 5+ has been great and HTC is really on the ball with updates this year.

For starters Beats sounds a lot better on Sense roms to my ears, also stock Sense is pretty fluid if I'm being honest. GPE roms are faster in a sense but the difference is hardly noticeable and in fact I find the stock sense gallery to be a lot smoother than the stock gallery on the GPE roms. I have a lot of photos and whilst there isn't any lag on Sense I find a bit of lag in the stock gallery.
In regards to Samsung phones, CM was popular because people grew sick of how bloated Touchwiz is. Sense is of course larger than any GPE rom but they really nailed it in terms of speed, and its certainly faster than Touchwiz. I also find the battery life on GPE roms to be worse than on Stock sense. I'm currently on Sinless (GPE rom) and it's fast, like all other GPE roms. Still, I miss the Sense gallery, loudspeaker quality, longer battery life and data speed (my data is a bit slower on GPE roms).
I'm in the middle by the way. I switch roms quite often (from Sinless, to Insertcoin to ViperOne) and each version has their own pro's and cons but I certainly don't feel like I really really need to flash a GPE rom or CM unlike when I had my Galaxy S3
Thanks guys
And for the troll.. no its not "why do people like different stuff than me"... read the first post again, ty..
@Galactus Really? well, i never noticed the faster data speed, but what i noticed is that i got a more stable data, on GPE roms i have all 4 full bars.. on sense roms i have like 2-3 bars.. dont know why :/ using latest sense firmware.
Anyways, thanks again

Best way to check is using an app or going into settings, about, status and seeing if your actually getting worse signal or not. My signal is the same on both but data definitely seems a bit faster (with less latency) on Sense roms
I really can't live without the sense camera. I fell in love with GPE, but the camera is a huge part of my smartphone use so had to revert to sense. If someone could port the sense camera again then I would spend all my time on GPE!
I check Blinkfeed like 3 times a day. I thinks it's very good
the reason i wont change is because i love blinkfeed ,it brings some animation to a boring otherwise OS ,i have tried every latest phone available and find the HTC One the best.

+1 I love HTC's Sense and the One's hardware + build quality. I believe to be a perfect phone!
You will get a thousand different reasons from many people. Sense is more popular then say TouchWiz from samsung due to it being far more fluid. Htc Started on Sense long before android came to light so it is a bit more polished to some. But just like TW it adds features to the device that some people like.
On that note thread closed.

[Q] Should I stay with a Stock Android based ROM or a Sense based ROM?

Since I got my hands on an HTC One I haven't stopped messing with it by switching from one ROM to another, and I can't decide which ROM should I stay with.
When I'm using a Sense based ROM, there are moments when I miss some features from Stock Android, and when I'm on SA I miss Sense's features. So I keep constantly switching from one to another(I mean switching/converting my phone to the GPE one and vice versa).
This ROM switching issue has almost got my phone unusable several times.
I need to stop in order to avoid getting my phone into a really serious problem.
So I ask you, guys:
Which ROM do you think it's best and why, in comparison to the other one? (Sense 6 vs Stock Android)
Thanks in advance.
The best way for you to decide which to use would probably be to list what features you miss from both Sense and Stock and then see which features, out of those listed, you feel is more important/you miss the most.
Personally, I much prefer Sense 6 than GPE, AOSP & AOKP. When I first got the M7, I was spending a hell of a lot of time flashing different ROMs and seeing what my experience of each was like. I found that Sense 5 (and all other Sense updates since then) simply performed better. The main difference was the smoothness of the ROM.
I'd tried a couple of different GPE ROMs and, while they were stable and really smooth, they just weren't quite as smooth as Sense felt. The difference was even more noticeable when I tried AOSP ROMs.
The other main reason why I much prefer Sense is because a few of the Sense features only work on Sense. As that was the case, staying on Sense ROMs ever since just makes the most "sense" in my opinion
I'll have to say it's almost like sense has more 'features' than other comparable roms. It feels better built and looks better. On my M8 I'm running sense, and that's my opinion.
Well if we are just venting. My opinion is the GPE and AOSP versions are just too plain. The first thing you do on GPE is go looking for a different launcher / camera and music player. In Sense you already have a great camera / music app / gallery / Dialer / and launcher. The settings area is well laid out and blinkfeed is usable after all the improvements they have made. I have Samsung / LG / and Moto devices and they are all awkward and clumsy compared to Sense. LG would be my second favorite and Samsung and Motorola tied for last.
