Differences between the Mexican 4.1.2 and AT&T stock ROMS? - Motorola Atrix HD

Hello I was just wondering what are the differences between these two ROMs. Since the Mexican version is higher, is the performance better than the AT&T 4.1.1 version? Like is it smoother, battery life, etc,? I've been thinking about flashing it but I want to know first. Thanks everyone

From what I noticed so far, the mexican rom doesn't have all the bloatware on it.
On the AT&T rom i noticed it would show 4g LTE icon when on LTE...
but on the Mexican rom it seems to show a 3g icon for what was 4g on the AT&T rom and 4g for 4g LTE on AT&T rom
lol i know that sounds confusing.

I've been using both the ROMS for a while now.
The Mexican Retail works much smoother for me. There is almost no bloatware except a nextel radio service and one motorola app specific to nextel.
Both are easily uninstallable.
The main difference which I find immensely useful with 4.1.2 is with using one finger to expand notifications in the bar rather than 2.
Regardless, I'd say the mexican retail rom is very clean and ideal to use.

As for battery life, I wont say there is much difference than At&t stock but with tegra battery guru i'm pushing atleast 1 hour more per day with similar usage.

One more good feature is that in mobile network settings you can easily select between 4g/3g/2g settings which can enhance battery even more. These are stock features.
I'd really suggest you flash it and see. You can thank me after

Actually I believe it is At&T's system that makes it confusing. LTE is actually 4G.
The 4G icon that shows on AT&T 4.1.1 is not really 4G but a marketing tool to fool people into thinking the enhanced 3G speeds that it actually is, is 4g.
Similarly the LTE-A which has rolled out would probably be adopted by At&t and marketed as 5G.
Networks in the US push the numerical 'G' based on increase in speeds but actually its meant to signify a change in the generation which comes with a change in technology

Merge With Optimus 3D Forum?

The Thrill and the O3D are essentially the same with but different model numbers (just like the Rogers O3D) but O3D Roms still work with no problem on the Thrill and I assume the Thrill Roms would work on the O3D. With that said, is there any point in keeping these two forums separate? Imo, separating the Thrill and O3D would be like separating the the Rogers O3D and the UK O3D (different bands/models but same phone). As for user bases, we are both small communities so why not be a bigger small community?
They use different kernels and radios, it can get confusing having all that info together. When I had my atrix I could sometimes be difficult to tell which ROM/Kernel/Radio to use. Especially for newer people that are just starting with Android and rooting.

I would agree. The Captivate and Vibrant were essentially the same phones, but had separate forums and I think it was easier to help newbies keep out of trouble to not accidentally flashing the wrong thing. ROMs and such can always be ported over, so I would like to see them remain separate. And I agree about the Atrix Forum, it was harder to make sure you were flashing the right thing. (But of course, reading is key).
Agreed I see no reason for a merger, putting O3D roms on the thrill can cause a few problems with mms and even taking videos. I am planning on either combining an o3d and thrill rom or just making my own, time is pressed right now so it will be a while hoping to have at least a beta in the next week or so.
Also considering the problems people are having with just getting adb working correctly i can only imagine the problems combining the two forums would cause.
How about if we merge like the Evo 3D CDMA and GSM forum? Two different sections for development but still under the same forum.

Having different radios isn't a big deal, just change the APN settings or flash a Thrill modem. I'm not sure about them having different kernels. IIRC, someone flashed the Thaiz Rom which uses a custom kernel and had no problems.

I prefer them seperate. I ran every 920 rom they had and yea the kernel is different.

If the kernel is different wouldn't you have bricked your phone when flashing it?
Keep it separate. Its alot better this way. It keeps things and problems from happening I think

bootloops and random restarts when running that custom kernel with thrill 3d roms.not to mention that custom kernel gets good bench scores but lags its ass off.

T-Mobile Note... Use ATT ROM/root?

So my buddy got a note from T-Mobile and I wanted to know, after viewing specs, won't the ATT roms and root methods work seamless since they seem to be the same exact phone?
We are not first time rooters or ROM users. But, how big of a risk would it be to try and use the ATT root method on T-Mobile Note?

My guess...strictly a mildly informed guess is, that is you rooted the phone, did a nandroid backup and flashed a rom, everything would work except data, as they have different radios.
Don't try it because I said so, try it in the name of science. LOL (actually, I wouldn't do it)

Well I flashed the t-mo rom onto my att note and it works. also the data works too as it was using another t-mo radio i flashed in there before the flashed the rom, so it should work. but who knows.
But are they not the same phone with different radios? I mean theoretically same buttons and hardware means same "id's" for those buttons in the ROM for ATT. Like how Keys on a keyboard have special numbering, etc. How all hardware buttons function, really.
So why would an ATT ROM and root brick the phone?

Actually, the T-mobile rom runs fine on the AT&T Note, but CM9/CM10 does not run on the T-Mobile Note. Theres a difference in the displays, it's all corrupted during boot and then it finally reboots into a loop. I almost got CM9 to boot, saw it updating apps, but then it crashed.
The hardware is different!

T-mobile Note Roms
I'm not about to try to flash a ATT ROM on my new phone. So...where is a place to find ROMS for the T-mobile Note? Anyone have any Ideas? I'm looking for the Newest Touch Wiz and S-Voice to put on my note. Any help would be welcomed.

Since this phone has only been out a week, you will have a little bit of a wait.
from what i've seen it is safe to flash ATT roms they just don't boot.
I flashed about 3 different roms from the i717 threads using twrp 2.2.1 and they all boot loop at the samsung logo.
restoring my t-mo backup worked fine. so there really is no danger, just a boot looping issue.
You need to flash the T-mobile boot.img to get other roms to work on the T879. Check the "Goodies" dev thread made an odin flashable tarball that you make it easy to get up and running.
May post a guide later.

I don't own a Galaxy Note, but I'm considering picking one up this week, and I was just taking a look at the forums for it. The first step toward getting a nice development section is going to be finding a user experienced in porting roms. I would say if someone doesn't start this in the next couple of weeks, maybe it would be beneficial to you guys to find someone who is good with porting, ask them for advice & possibly even start a bounty to get them a Tmo Note for rom porting purposes? My best guess at using Att roms would be replacing the boot IMG & being sure that your using the Tmo radio(I'm not sure if roms generally include a radio). If those things are correct you probably have a good chance of getting TW roms to boot. I would try it, but i wouldn't recommend it to others unless your experienced in recovering bricked devices, lol! Again, this is just a guess, as I've never ported anything. I'm sure you can find a thread here on XDA that explains the fundamentals of porting roms. If I end up purchasing one, I'm definitely going to give it a shot! I use a gs3 as my primary right now, and I'll just debating whether or not I want the Note, or just wait for the international Note 2 and wait patiently for the network refarming? The plus to the Tmo Note is that I do have an upgrade on one of my lines, so it would be considerably cheaper!
---------- Post added at 01:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:09 PM ----------
If there is anyone in the thread that also owns a gs3, I would like an opinion. Are you being bothered by performance of the Note because of the lesser hardware? I still have a Tmo Gs2 around here, & after the ics update things went downhill bad in the performance department. Even w/ custom Roms, I see lag & stuttering, & I'm wondering if this is the case w/ the Note? I don't expect it to match performance of the S4 chip set, I'm really just interested in the added functionality of the Spen, so long as performance is acceptable.
Anybody have any luck getting any of the AT&T Jellybean ROMs working on the T-mobile Note?

I also have the GSIII and as said above, the Note is a little slower but not much. I'm loving my Note and just looking for a good ROM to put on it which i'm sure will improve the speed. I also went to one of those cell phone stores that sells phones for multiple networks and got them to give me a full size SIM frame from where they used a cutter to make a micro SIM, and it works great as an adapter so I can still switch back to my GSIII with no problems.
You don't need an adapter if you're using your micro sim card on your Note. Just make sure it's align correctly and it should work. I had my sim card modified into a micro sim so I could use the iPhone 4. Still using that same sim card on my Note without an adapter.

After switching tons of roms im pulling of what im assuming is hsdpa im getting about 4mbs which works out since sprint 3G was like .30 on a good day and LTE very spotty in my area
But I'm in the exact same boat as you. I want AOSP as much as the next guy. KK looks great!

Incase any devs are wondering whats or why its not working. Its after you set it to WCDMA preferred sometimes it changes to "GSM only (PRL)" something like that.
Upon searching for network operators it says it failed searching.

So new... and so lost. Please help!

Hi everyone,
I have extensive PC knowledge and have been in the computer repair industry for years. I do not, however, have hardly any experience with Android devices beyond daily use.
I purchased a used Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A (AT&T), which was previously unlocked. The phone is now under service with MetroPCS.
When I first boot by phone, it shows a quick screen with a picture of a padlock, which is UNLOCKED, and the word "Custom."
So, I was reading up on Cyanogenmod, but everything that I can find about it says that it is unable to be used with the AT&T version of the phone. I was going to follow this guide a guide from the CM wiki page but as you can see it says that I shouldn't try.
Most of the info I found was from early or mid 2014. Now that it is nearing the end of 2015, has anything changed?
If I cannot use CM, what ROM would you all recommend? My main reasons for installing a ROM are:
-A Spartan design. I like everything very clean, very minimalistic, with no fuss.
-Saving battery life
-Getting rid of all the bloatware and AT&T **** on my phone which doesn't even work because I'm on MetroPCS
-Customization (does this have to even be listed?)
-Phone as a hotspot without paying MetroPCS $5 a month
I am basically a complete noob when it comes to Android modding. I rooted an old Avid ZTE I had, but never did anything else with it and that is as far as my knowledge goes.
If anyone would be so kind as to recommend a ROM, and link a guide for installation that I can follow, I would be very grateful. Who knows, I might end up becoming a regular poster here.
Boot loader is still locked so no roms that require a custom kernel.
I personally recommend you to root your phone, disable bloat and install nova launcher.
Most all roms are simply user hacks since we are stuck on touchwiz.
Some are quite good but in the end they are still stock based.
