I am having two problems on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus GT-I9001.
The first one, of not being to able to download apps started day before yesterday. When I tried to update apps via Play Store, it would just be stuck at starting download, and the actual download won't start. The bar just kept moving like it does before download starts, but actual download does not start.
I searched for solution to this problem, and tried the steps on Google support... to clear cache and data for Google Framework Services, and Download Manager, and Google Play Store services. Tried that, nothing happened.
So, I decided to do a factory reset, in the hope that, that would solve the problem. And so I performed the factory reset, but the problem is same as before. Still cannot download apps from Play Store.
Yesterday, when I tried to download update for apps, it showed error 927 sometimes. Other times, it shows nothing, but just gets stuck at starting download.
However, I was able to download two apps, which makes it strange. I was able to download Street View for Maps, and Voice Search. But, the downloading for others didn't work.
I searched for solutions to the problem of error 927, and I tried different solutions I could find, but none have worked. I tried the extensive steps given on this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33762494&postcount=8
I tried it several times, but so far this has not worked. It's making me a bit frustrated.
Second part of the problem is that, after the factory reset my phone is in the state that it first came. An upgrade to my phone firmware is there from Samsung. I have Samsung Kies installed on my system, and I have successfully done an upgrade to my phone earlier to the latest firmware being offered from Samsung.
So, I tried the upgrade via Samsung Kies. Strangely, it shows what version of firmware I have on my phone, but does not show the name of the version available, it's blank. However, it does inform that an upgrade is there.
So, I start the upgrade, and it performs an initial download, asks for UAC clearance twice, and then the firmware upgrade window comes up, where it starts to download the firmware upgrade files. Then, a Notice window comes up, with something written in Korean or Chinese, I don't know, with an OK button. When pressed OK, the firmware upgrade process closes, and then the phone disconnects from Kies, and is connected again, and then it again shows that a firmware upgrade is available.
I tried upgrading multiple times, same thing occurs. How am I supposed to understand the Notice in Korean/Chinese... that's stupid.
Also, the latest versions of Kies, starting from version 2.5.0 do not support GT-I9001. I had to download version 2.3.3 in order to use Kies to connect to my phone. Because the official upgrade is offered via Kies for I9001. Samsung is not offering update via OTA.
I am using Windows 8, and Samsung Kies works fine.
So, please help me with these two problems... downloading of apps problem, and performing upgrade of my phone.
I haven't rooted my phone.. it's just over a year old.. bought it in January last year. So, warranty is over.
I am also a newbie, and I haven't performed any rooting, or haven't yet gone into recovery mode, etc. So, if I have to do that, will need proper steps, and explanation .
Thanks.
Update via ODIN. Takes some time and patience but it works much better. See the the index in the GT-I9001 i've made a tutorial

Am getting crazy here.
I keep trying for the downloads once in a while. So, I tried downloading again, and this time, the downloads started normally. I updated 3 apps.. Gmail, Google Search, Maps. I also downloaded Flashlight app. After that, I tried to download more, but now again same problem is happening... stuck on starting download. Tried downloading different apps, same. I don't know what the heck is happening.
Any solution will be appreciated.
What might have caused this? After a factory reset, things should have worked fine, but why even after a factory reset, there are problems?
Which google play version do you use?
Thanks for the link.
The Google Play version on my phone which it installed automatically when I had performed factory reset is 3.10.14

If you have the newest one; V4.0.25 then go to settings > apps > manage apps (or on ICS/JB scrol to all) then search for google play and for Play services and wipe data/cache on both apps.
Well, I have version 3.10.14, and as said in my first post, I have already tried that multiple times, that is, clearing data and cache for the Google Play Store, Play Store Service, Google Services Framework, Download Manager.. but the problem is still there.
There are no updates shown for Google Play Store on my phone.
I have Gingerbread 2.3.6 on my phone.. XXKQD.
About performing upgrade with Odin, how do I know which stock firmware I should upgrade to.
Well, ive searched error 927 via Google ( ) and it means a server error on the developers side. Meaning the playstore/application has issues. Whichs cant be solved by us users

Well, I too had searched for this error yesterday, and as said in my first post, it is quite a common error, and I found some solutions, like the one you told, to clear data/cache, etc. But that does not work.
It does not necessarily mean that the problem is on developer's side, otherwise, it wouldn't have been solved with the different solutions.

Thanks, I did that. CSC is I90010DDKP5. So, how does this help me in choosing the correct firmware upgrade

Well, I have performed a factory reset, which is available in the phone under Privacy.
Is there any other form of factory reset? What's a complete factory reset? How is it different from the factory reset there in the phone?

Factory reset via recovery? Can also help..
And yes if you have the correct one then you can search for it on samsung updates or sammobile
Update on the issues - one issue solved
Seems like the problem is with Play Store, and that's why I was not able to download the apps. Now, the apps are downloading fine, without my doing anything. First, it was working randomly... but now, am able to download all apps. I now feel stupid to have performed the factory reset on the phone so soon.
Seems like Google are rolling out a new version of Play Store, and so I think that's the reason behind the downloading issues. But, its strange why it happened to me only. Anyone else with GT-I9001 experienced this issue?
About the second problem of not being able to upgrade the firmware via Samsung Kies.. I wrote to Samsung, since I have not got any helpful reply from here on the forum. They wrote back to me, giving me the address of Samsung Smart Cafe in the city, and telling me to go there. That's just stupid. For a problem with their software, why should I be the one going to the Smart Cafe. Obviously, they will charge me for their services there. I have written back to them, about this, that it's a problem with their software.. its showing non-English messages whereas the installation language was chosen to be English. Let's see what they reply... but I am not expecting any helpful reply. It will be just wishy-washy.
I may try upgrading the firmware via Odin, but I am thinking if it's worth it. The official firmware upgrade isn't so good, and has bugs.
I am thinking that if I have to upgrade via flashing, then why not root the phone, and install a custom ROM.
Can anyone please tell me about a stable and efficient good custom ROM for GT-I9001? ... or should I open a new thread to ask about it?
Am an absolute newbie with all this rooting, and flashing, and have no idea about the ROMs.
Alright, so i updated to the most current 2.24 firmware today, as well as to ARHD 12, I'm s-Off, and SuperCID.
Now, ever since those changes have been made, i have not been able to get facebook working in my Blinkfeed, it keeps feeding me the Authorize HTC sense error.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled facebook a dozen times, clearing data, and cache, i've clean installed the rom, dirty installed the room from a previous nandroid that was working, I've re-installed the firmware package, i've got back to a previous version of ARHD (Via the nandroid) and the error has followed me through it all without any resolution.
When i remove HTC sense from my facebook recognized apps, it allows me to click on the Error, and prompts me to allow it to authorize, i hit ok, then ok it can manage my messages, and then it loops again, in error, with no apparent fix.
Someone suggested I do a logcat, so i did, showing me refreshing blinkfeed, and receiving the error, as well as attempting to tap through it unsuccessfully.
Would love to get this fixed, cause it just broke today, and it annoys me having a feature broken on it. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
(I did have to compress the txt file, cause Xda didn't like it's size.
believe me, had the similar thing with my HTC One X... posted a thread too in that forum... after a couple of factory resets, it was gone... i tried all the settings...even from the FB settings, to all android settings... but it went only by factory reset....hope it helps you too

Well this morning, suddenly the playstore stopped working, showing the following error - Check your connection and try again.
I've faced this problem many times and I'm usually able to solve it, but this time I wasn't able to.
Steps I've already taken
Clear data and cache of Playstore and Google services Framework
Delete the host files in the etc folder
Reboot a couple of times
What else can I do?
Oh and also for some strange reason I wasn't able to update my apps since this morning. An error kept popping up - error 489.

Yeah dude I already tried that. Didn't work. For some reason the internet's stopped working now. Nothing of google is opening up. Nor are the notifications. Other sites are working sans google.
For this reason i decided to flash the stock rom
but when I try to flash, I get this message preflash validation failed
You have any idea?

Sorry I Don't Know About This Issue Too Much,But As Far As I Think It's Some Bootloader Oriented Issue..
So I installed M today using fastboot, however when I run through my phone's setup, I get stuck on opting in to Google Now. When I hit next, I I get a Network Error: Check Your Network Connection message and am forced to skip it to continue with the setup. I've tried clearing the app cache and data for Now, I've tried a complete reinstall of M multiple times, and even tried downgrading to Lollipop (Chroma) and continue to see this message whenever I try to start Google Now. I've tried clearing all of my search and location and Now card history as was suggested elsewhere, but this did nothing. In addition, it seems that Now isn't working on my desktop Chrome either anymore. I can't seem to get it enabled while it's broken on mobile.
Has anybody else run into this problem since trying M? And does anyone have any suggestions? I use Google Now a lot and it's kind of driving me nuts.
try one of the twrp flashable zips for M, in the android development section.
Having the same problem, and seen a few others too, did you find a fix for it?
Wrong forum... my bad
