I installed cocore 6.8 cwm on my friend's phone and he flashed a custom Rom and now it isn't booting. He didn't take a Nandroid backup. He says that when tried to flash the experia Rom which worked previously it is getting stuck forever. The same happened when he tried to wipe system data in advanced settings. What should I do now?

Flash stock firmware with Odin. After that root, and play with ROMs again.

I wonder if you could tell me where to download the stock firmware. I'd prefer the official Samsung link.
Also it's there a method that doesn't involve Odin?
Like. flashing the. cocore kernel directly?

You need to put a custom ROM on the SD card then flash it.

First thing that come to my mind is that you instaled GB ROM, and your friend have JB kernel (CoCore 6.8). Post link of ROM you instaled, to see if it was GB or JB ROM.
Second, do factory reset.
If you can go to recovery do this:
Connect phone to PC, mount SD card in CWM (or you use TWRP recovery, mount it there). Push some JB ROM in it, and install it.
I think flashing firmware with Odin is easier, beacuse for pushing zip from recovery you need adb shell, and knowledge of command to push it there. But you can put his SD card in your phone, and use it to transfer ROM too. Just tell him to use JB ROM, not GB.
And if that do not help, I suggest you use Odin method,. Download Firmware, flash it and then you can root it again and use CoCore and some custom ROM.
http://samsung-updates.com/ and http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ are trusted sites for Samsung firmwares.

you could use the device initialization feature inside the smart switch pc software to install official stock rom to your device. all you have to do is put the samsung device to donwload mode or more commonly known as odin mode. and connect device to the pc. go to device initialization on smart switch pc. then type in your device model number and serial number then the software will prompt to install usb drivers if not already installed then the software will automatically download official stock rom and flash it to your device. search you tube on more info on how to use it.
note: i couldn't find device initialization on latest version of smart switch software. you probably use the 4.1.17054.16 version.

Hello friends,
I'm using cm9 rom on my Samung Galaxy Note , now i wanna go back to stock rom and also wanna unroot my device.. can i just flash the stock rom and kernels directly or do i need to go through some other process.. and one more query is that , odin is not detecting my phone , so how can i flash the stock kernel and rom? ? reply Asap.. Thanks in advance
Yes flash straight way Stock GB ROM with Odin, then wipe cache and data.
Odin is not detecting then it is issue of driver. Uninstall kies and just install driver (find it from Toolbox on my signature)

Just flash stock GB rom using pc odin and you will be back to stock (unrooted as well). No need to flash kernel separately as flashing stock GB will also change kernel to stock. After flashing GB rom, you can either use odin to update to ICS or can use kies or OTA.

Just like the previous posts said, you need to remove PC KIES completely from your PC and reinstall it again. The problem on PC ODIN not detecting your phone is that, your PC might have some corrupted Samsung/adb drivers (needed by PC ODIN as well), Reinstalling PC KIES will reinstall those corrupted or missing Samsung drivers on your PC, hence, next time you plug back your phone to connect to your PC, PC Odin will rightly detect it already. (It would have a yellow box :COM on it whiche means it had already detected your device).

that 1st link is the safest and best.
download the rom of. your choice. It. doesn't need to be of. your region. although you can check the latest firmware on www.samfirmware.com....
Once downloaded, use pc odin with the downloaded rom tar.md5 file selected in the pda tab. The connect the phone to pc in download mode and press start.
If you are upgrading to ics, then do not do any wipes, first flash a safe kernel...

Thanks for replying. Good to know that that thread is safe, but what do you mean by flashing a safe kernel? Those terms mean nothing to me.
theres two way to flash ROM. 1 is using PC ODIN and the other one is CWM
Flashing Via PC ODIN .. you need to have two thing.. The Rom You Want to flash and the PC-ODIN software
Flashing Via CWM.. you need two things. You need to root your phone and you need to install CWM.
every rom comes with modem, kernel (the file that govern how to handle your phone cpu), csc... the kernel inside ics is known to have brickbug
theres no need to flash kernel if you are flashing Rom via PC ODIN... Flashing kernel is when you are using CWM....

So, I can just flash any ROM using ODIN, and there will be no risk bricking my device?
If I flash a ROM, will I have a fresh install, and will my kernel also change so that I don't have the brickbug anymore?

yes you can flash any ROM using ODIN safely without bricking your device.
yes you will have a fresh install. your kernel will change too. as for the brickbug....
If you flash via PC ODIN then everything is stock to what you flashed.the kernel the firmware the csc the modem..all as stock provided....
1.If you flash ICS via PC-ODIN then your kernel also would be stock ics kernel that has brickbug..
Warning :
Don't wipe anything from stock ICS recovery
Don't factory reset/Hard reset on stock ICS.
Don't flash any Wipe version of ICS ROM
let say you want to flash Latest JB Rom but you are on ICS stock.
first thing you need to do is root your device ...install CWM.. Flash safe kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
let say ive rooted... installed CWM with safe kernel...
what i always do is everytime i want to flash new rom whatever rom it is...i flash Speedmod 3-15 (safe kernel) and go to Advance>reboot recovery and flash any rom i want so that im on the safe side without worrying what kernel im on.
2.If you flash GB than your kernel will be GB kernel which is safe to wipe..
if you want to flash custom rom from gb then you root your device and installed CWM and Flash since GB kernel is safe.
but.. let say u flashed ICS and wanted to go back to GB. then you are not safe anymore,,, that is why i always flashed Speedmod kernel 3-15 (safe kernel) and reboot recovery (by going to advance>rebootrecovery) and flashed any rom... that way im always sure that im in safe kernel when flashing Rom

I currently using ICS 4.0.4 and would like to use JB. I am just trying to know if there is any means, we could able to use external sd card for the update as there is option...
if you are talking about the option is android recovery 3e then No. to install a new rom you need CWM recovery, Mobile odin or PC odin.
nokiamodeln91 is right, you need cwm , or Odin for flashimg new roms
if i download the german firmware JB and flash with odin, Will i get the update NEE? Do I need to have german CSC as well to install in in my GNote which is running NEE ICS 4.0.4

I accidentally wiped out the internal memory @ ROM of my tablet ( Samsung SM-T330NU). It is now frozen on a download screen with the Android logo in the middle , I cannot turn it off or go into recovery mode with any of the usual buttons.
In addition, the PC doesn't see it, so I cannot use Odin either from the PC or the tablet.
How can I fix it? I thought I could download the stock firmware on the PC and copy it to the tablet external card, but I am not to sure how to do it. The stock firmware I was able to download is an MDS file. Can I copy it to the Ext SD card of the tablet as it is, or do I have to do something else?May be extract the files. How?
Thanks for the help
