How do I backup my IMEI? - LG Optimus 2x

How do I backup my IMEI? I saw some cases in which it requests the IMEI when switching ROM and would like to prevent.

anything that asks you for your IMEI should be viewed as highly suspect. unless its a registered LG site, or program.
anything else. do research on it before using it. or you'll find your phone wont log into mobile networks all over the place.

I do not know Google translator lived up to what I wanted to know. My fear is time to replace the lost ROM my IMEI as I saw it happen (especially in Samsung devices), therefore, wanted to back you know?

I see.
Well, flashing roms, and even basebands cannot delete your IMEI, on this device.
but if it does happen for any reason (like erasing CAL data) it can be restored, as long as you have a windows computer, and the number under your battery.
just whatever you do. don't go giving random people your IMEI.
so no need to back up. IMEI can be restored using Hyper Terminal, in windows. winxp - win8

Once you do root your phone, and have a compatible recovery installed.
make sure to make a backup of each of your roms, incase you need to revert back to it from a bad flash.
this phone is very tough. its known as an Unbrickable phone, but that does not make it flawless.
always keep a backup of your most stable roms. if your planning to start flashing new roms to your phone, its always good to have something that works always at hand, incase you need it.

I'm also curious what exactly it does. At 140k it isn't replacing very much. Does it just fix files related to booting?
Didnt run it because I'm on linux and my phone is fine, but looking at the batch file, it automates flashing the stock gingerbread rom and restores PDS via fastboot.
when I run it, it gives me AdbWinApi.dll error. any suggestions?
I ran this for ****s and giggles and it returns everything back to stock AT&T 2.3 while giving you options along the way of what exactly you wanna restore to stock? webtop, system, pds, wipe data etc. works perfectly! makes life easier really! Phone booted right up after running no problems! Thanks!

It restores your phone back to stock AT&T android via fastboot automatically. It also gives you the option to *fix* your pds partition.
It's also an alternative to RSD

It restores it back to stock AT&T. I tried this on an international Atrix.
Pardon my ignorance, i'm trying to restore a bricked Atrix 4G for a friend. It gave error Failed to boot SVF 105:1:2 0x1000 after bad upgrade. Is it possible to use this as a solution? How can i find that out? and in any case, i have downloaded all files, what's the correct procedure to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Well, been trying but haven't been able to do anything with it. I mean I never used it before and seems like it needs to boot into fastboot mode which I haven't been able to do.
Is in any way possible to make the phone boot into that via usb cable with this software? I installed all requiered software including drivers but it never detected the phone in that (bricked) state, not even once. The phone turns a green light when u connect the usb without battery in, thats it.
I haven't found any solution yet, only seen ppl saying to buy a new one. Is this brick really that bad that there's absolutely no solution? And it all seems to be caused by lack of SBK as ive read on the net...
Well if there's any good news I would like to hear them

It's a hard brick. I'm sorry, but it cannot be fixed. You can always try a factory cable, but so far, nothing can be done. I feel your pain

IMEI number changed from rom

I have been a flash oholic for the past year and for the first time when i go off work today i had no service and looking into it my imei number does not match what is on the back of the phone. I have not flashed anything since yesterday and it worked very good all day until 5:00. Any ideas?

I had the same problem today. I was accused of having a stolen phone (same captivate I have had for 2 years, bought from AT&T store). Then I was told that someone reported my phone stolen. Then I was told that I put my SIM in an iPhone. Then I was told that I was using a stolen pre-pay phone. Finally, I was told that there was some mistake, and my phone might be fixed within 24 hours. Total call time was over 3 hours. Still not working. When I try to make a call, I get "sorry, this device has been blocked". AT&T's crack team is on it though.
I believe it is from the "generic" IMEI that my ROM is reporting (IMEI ends in 640000). I have been looking for ways to restore my IMEI to the correct one, but all I am finding is information about how it is a class C felony in the US to change an IMEI number.

Did you flash an ICS ROM? If you did, you might want to check your internal SD and look for a folder named "backup". It contains a backup copy of your "efs" folder. Copy everything from that folder and paste everything to your "/efs" folder. Reboot your phone, fix permission and you should be good.

Same story I was getting. This will happen to you again (I have been through it twice). The IMEI ending in 640000 is not a valid IMEI, and it is on the blacklist. AT&T is not the only carrier now disabling access for having IMEI's that are reported as stolen.
To restore your IMEI, follow the instructions from Nick0703.

It may be in the /mnt/sdcard depending on the app you are using for file explorer.

That's weird, I successfully used that IMEI for a day after flashing ICS with no problems. Usually you can fix it by flashing to stock as long as there weren't changes to efs.

hello, my imei done the exact thing its the same as in software as under the battery, but Samsung sees the imei as a Samsung focus which is sgh-i917 which is a windows 7 phone the phone that I have even kies sees it as Samsung galaxy s 4g sght959v android phone. would you have any I dea how to fix this? thanks just for reading, or stir me to a person that might know many thanks
my imei is totally blank. been fine and bam it just went after i rebooted my phone. was using a custom rom but have been on that rom for 4-5 monthsso i dont understand the issue. dealt with it at my carrier's live chat and they simply said its a stolen phone but ive had this phone well ocer 2-3 years! now im using it without network coverage etc. bullsh*t.
There is a way to restore IMEI. The easiest one is backup your data, flash stock GB ROM (use Odin one-click files), verify IMEI is back, update OS to whatever you like, restore your data. Odin one-click back to stock files are in Android Development section, look at the Sticky threads. Read this Guide to update the OS to latest stable CyanogenMod (CM10.1.3 Android 4.2.2 based). Lost IMEI is common issue with Captivate, but it's easy to fix.

[Q] doesnt detect SIM network

Well after i stupidly got my phone soft bricked, I downloaded and flashed stock 4.3 rom correct to my region. Everyhting worrked fine after that i was able to call and send messages etc. But today i tryed to root the phone, With multiple ways actually, CF-root, thru CWM. but there was some problems, Bit off topic but after i flashed the CF-root i was rooted, But SuperSU asked me to update binary and after that i wasnt rooted anymore :/
and the problem thru CWM that it didnt root at all, Dont know what the problem was...
*knox warranty gone, didnt even know about such a thing before i searched abit...*
Well anyway now i flashed stock rom again, The same that i flashed earlier and now my phone is buggin with the sim card, It will detect it but its not detecting the network or twhatever it it, So its only allowing Emergency calls...
i have tryed pulling the sim out of the phone etc but hasnt worked
I was wondering it it can be phones fault, For the trys of rooting etc.. Or can it just be the sim cards or the providers error?
Did you check your IMEI? 000 or 04x or something weird?

I would try your SIM card on another phone just to make sure, you can usually get a duplicate for free or cheap if thats the issue.
If the SIM card issue is working fine, get hold of the PARAM and WIPE images for your model and run them through Odin, then flash a recent firmware.
At least that is what I would try, but I'm not sure if knox bootloader is going to make it easy for you or not.
Maybe someone else knows more?
Good luck!!!

The sim card cannot be dublicate, As when i bought the phone, Around 4-5 months ago, The normal sim card got changed to the micro-sim that fits into s3.
Im not totally sure what u mean with the "get PARAM and wipe images", and i have flashed the stock rom couple of times, Heck i even ran the Kies FW recovery thingy that does the same thing.. and yea, That ****ing Knox...
WIPE and PARAM are images similar to the firmware ones you used to flash your phone. Except that what they do is completely wipe and re-partition (Think of it like formatting your PC before you install Windows) and then configure the device for the first time. This way we can make sure that it isn't an issue with the way that the firmware was installed (issues can arise if you flash too many times or different roms / versions of android are installed without wiping in between) I don't own an S III so unfortunately I can't help you finding them, though I'm sure someone else will be able to link you to them...

Thanks for the quick replys.
SO installing stock rom thru odin, OR Kies both can fail? if i understood correctly.
Does the region matter on those?
You are most welcome I hope I've been of some help. And yes, there is always a possibility of something going wrong if you do not wipe first (Not so much if you're upgrading from the same rom and android version eg: TouchWiz stock 4.2 to 4.2 , but yes if for example 4.2 to 4.3 or from stock to custom, or vice versa etc..)
As for region, if the model is the same there really shouldnt be an issue, at most you'll have a wrong CSC which would involve having to configure APN settings manually.... But to get that far first we'd need the phone to register on the network.... Which yours isn't doing at the moment... I do not think this is the problem.

A wipe will clear all settings, but if you use the right region most will be configured automatically for you (I'm assuming you're refering to the APNs)

[Q] lost imei

I have nexus 6 in Canada.
I had android 5.0.1. I know it was 5.0.x stock - not OTA updated.
I decided to install chroma rom using the thread here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-chroma-01-11-2015-t3000003
I installed twrp, and chroma.
I followed the instructions and it worked.
I didn't flash a radio myself. just the chroma rom, gapps, and supersu.
It worked yesterday.
This morning I got a message that android phone app stopped.
I could not make phone calls or sms.
I didn't put much thought into the error message.
I wanted something more stock and I just installed lightrom.
I only installed lightrom, no other flashing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-5-1lightromstock-lmy47e-03-19-2015-t3059493
The problem persists -- no phone calls or sms.
now:
I looked at my about phone in the settings and it says unknown IMEI.
Any pointers to how I can fix this?
Did you flash correct radio ?
Can you see your imei ?
If nothing works flash latest stock.

What does it say when you type *#06* into the dialer
I see unknown imei in settings about phone status imei info.
I didn't flash a radio individually. I don't know if one of the roms flashed a radio with it.

can you upload "twrp backup of the efs partition" please...

His efs backup will not help others. It is unique to his device and will only work for his. Its basically a I'd number. Loosing an imei is serious stuff and makes your phone useless. I'm glad you had a backup. Now I'm curious how so it don't happen to others. Flashing radios won't wipe efs.

Should I make backup of EFS partition from time to time? Is it change? Is it depend on ROM? I made a backup after I unboxed Nexus. I have EFS backup on my phone, notebook and external hard drive... I hope it is safe
I had the same issue with a Galaxy S5 a while ago, I had to search and find a IMEI repair tool, which I don't think you will find on XDA as it can be used for bad purposes. But they are out there.
You only need 1 backup but the question is how this is happening. I see a lot of threads about it. So its an issue that we all need to figure out how and get preventative measures figured out

From what I've heard, if you flash all of the stock components through ADB (ROM, bootloader, modem, etc), it will trigger a rebuild of the EFS. I'm not 100% sure of this, but I remember reading something along those lines. I believe the phone has a backup partition for the EFS (which contains the IMEI, MAC Addresses, etc).

As others have said. The EFS backup is unique to my device. It won't help you with yours.
If you absolutely cannot regenerate it with the method I said, warranty service is your best bet.

Never tried this myself, but here is a guide for imei recreation on a Samsung device. At the very least it will give you an idea of some additional things you might try.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-recover-imei-9-steps-t1264021

[Q]IMEI shown in bootloader but not on full boot

My nexus 6 shows the correct IMEI when I do fastboot getvar all but when I boot up it doesn't show on setting nor on *#06#. There is a blank space not even 0. Any ideas?

tried stock and cm, it does not recognize sim and can't make calls
If writing an IMEI were that easy then riffboxes and other tools of the trade would have never been needed.
Try another SIM.
Your right. I tried but it is useless because the *#06# doesn't show IMEI, only fastboot

Well first off any tut on writing the IMEI are banned on the site as it is illegal in many countries and as such banned.
The only way to fix it is to restore a backuped up efs partition, flashing a fully stock packages with the flash all script or send it back.

I'm not suggesting changing imei... But repairing one isn't illegal. It's all down to the morals of who's doing it. I flash alot and many times trashed the esf. Restoring a backup is no more illegal than manually doing the same thing. And btw I won't write a tutorial on how being most people would use it to reuse stolen and blacklisted phones. I been on XDA for years. I know the rules. I been here since 06-07

The option I mentioned are the only ones allowed on the site. Anything else is banned.
