[Q] How to install cusom Kernel on 11w44 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I need Custome Kernel on my 11w44 manufacture date. I read that if I will try to flash, it may hard brick my xperia x8. But also i found that there is a way to flash it. I am little confused. So could you please explain me all of these things?

Nooo, u can't flash custom kernel for ur phone!!! Anyways where u know u can flash it??

dont do it mate, you have 11w44 and upon flashing a custom kernel you need to have an unlocked bootloader which is very risky to do and it is not advisable to do so, stick with stock kernel and stock ROMs

Unlock your bootloader with setool. Do not ask how, setool requires special hardware, so this is a paid method. If you try to unlock your bootloader with the free method, the result will be a hard brick what also need setool to resurrect the phone, so do not try it.
Search for a service or a person who have setool in your city/country.

Ah... I guess I will stick with stock kernel. Thanks anyway . (Pressed thanks for all of you )

mine is 11w48 and i also searched and googled a lot but no satisfying result. it is very risky to do so. i am satisfied with my stock kernel. try to do the same as me . trying to unlock your bootloader may result in not having any x8 anymore of course as I know there are ways to un-brick it later but...

...it is expensive

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but my dad wants this phone, and it will more than likely be newer than 11w29( I think that was the last unlockable one) and I was wondering, what's a good rom that can be used on stock, that doesn't need to be for gaming, multitasking or whatever WE would do, but what a 47 year old man does, like making calls, text..really basic stuff, but I don't want to keep on Eclair, and as I read, ICS and JB can ONLy be flashed on unlocked bootloaders, right? Is there any hope to have this phone unlocked further than 11w29?

hopefully you get a phone with 11w28 and down date, but the chances are really small. since your dad is going to use it, i believe stability is the most important? if you don't want to stay on eclair (which is good if you're okay with no app2sd feature), i'd recommend a froyo rom. which one really is up to you. just check the ones on the dev threads.

Yeah, stability is the most important, it's not like he'll want to play games haha. Would a GB rom be okay? I saw there's a Gingerdx rom that seems stable enough. Thanks!

[Q] W8-X8 mods/cRoms/fixes etc.

Hello sony ericsson X8/W8 users! I not newbie here on xda, but is new on your X8 thread. I have a new SE W8 which was given to me by my mom.. Now i was looking for a w8 thread here on xda but only led me to X8. i know X8 and W8 are close to being perfectly the same though there are a few things inside the phone also a better sound system on W8 which i researched the day i got it.
Now for my question: can you flash X8 stock roms, croms, fix, mods etc? Or they have their own Just like my first phone sgs i9003. It may look exactly like the i9000 but they have diff. stuff inside them which would brick the phone if you tried flashing i9000 roms on i9003 (happened to me on the first week i got the phone ...)
if you're kind enough, please help me with links for roms/mods specifed for w8
I am pretty confused with the x8 and w8 stuff... they should make a separate thread.... Sorry for those who might get annoyed with this post or sumthing. and thanks in advance for those who could help me with this
U can flash all the croms of x8 to w8.... with no hesitation...m using w8 only n i hve flshed gdx v24 n it works smoothly....

Here are 2 types of bricks :
1.Soft Brick - Reparable , SEUS , Flashtool
2.Hard Brick - Nonreparable , phone dead .
If you want to flash a custom kernel u need first to unlock bootloader , very dangerous , it leads to hard brick.
The custom kernels have recovery buildin so from there u can flash ROMs.
About Root , use Superoneclick , use search button
Best Combos are , MiniCM7 +nAa Kernel and GingerDX + Alfs.

Thanks for the link man. Wow rooting and customizing here takes a little more time on w8/x8... With bootloaders to be unlocked.... On the galaxy s all you need is to flash a kernel using odin. The kernel automatically unlocks the bootloader and of course rooting the phone. also installs cwm superuser and other root stuff... Although rooting here on w8 is easier by using superoneclick right?
About the bricking thing, its ok ive experienced bricking before with i9003. Hard bricked twice, but got lucky that the customer service never suspected it was rooted. Soft bricked before when odin was not responding...
Thanks for your knowlege damir, now i am well prepared with your link so when my laptop arrives i can start instanly! +1 for you on your thanks meter!

Hi,
I am using W8 and i have unlocked my bootloader and currently running with custom kernel and custom ROM (ICS). Before you unlock your bootloader u please chk the number on the Phone just below the battery something like 11W27 ( this is mine) if it above 29 its not advisable to unlock the bootloader, your phone might be bricked. However you can use GingerDX on Stock kernel.. hope this helps
Thank you for the info....mine is 11w34 ...hard luck for me....

Yes. You are right. Ive done some searching about this and learned that sony noticed that there were lots of hard brickings occurring in this phone unit. So sony had some part of the phone that starts with "Q" (i forgot the name) that holds the security stuff to make this "security hole" (or the "security ****") where bricks the phone whenever someone tries to unlock the bootloader... Thats what i understood... It can still be unlocked though you'll need someone good in hacking, and modding that could bypass the security hole thing and stuff a in the end unlocking the bootloaders.. It'll be tough work...

i can't unlock bootloader

there's so many ROM that i can't falsh it on my phone due to kernel and i think to flash kernel u have to unlock bootloader. and manufacture of my phone doesn't support unlock coz will make a hard brick . for instance i want to flash prime hd8 i tried but it coz a soft brick>>>>>???? what to do
You can't do anything about it, unfortunately.
If your phones manufacturing date is newer than 11W29, then don't unlock your bootloader.
However, you can still use ROMs such as GingerDX, PrimeHD (Stock Kernel Version) and ROMs that work with Stock Kernel!
Search, and enjoy!

[Q] Using SEUS with an unlocked bootloader

I want to go back to stock rom using SEUS but I'm afraid having an unlocked bootloader will brick my phone. Can I just use it or do I have to re-lock?
no you will not have a brick, if you want to relock it, relock it, if you want to leave it as it is, leave it as it is, but theres no chance you will have brick using seus
if you want my advice leave it as it is, soon you may want kernels again
Thanks! I'll probably be getting a new one soon and I want to give the x8 to my brother clean.

Update to 2.2?

I would like to update my xperia 8 e15a to 2.2 (or whatever is the latest firmware) but I dont know how.
Do I need to be rooted? what are the risks? because I rather not deal with these kind of stuff... Sony PC companian doesn't show any updates but there are...

Hi there..
Your phone needs to be rooted and recovery installed on it so as to install gingerbread or froyo on it..
It would be better if you search YouTube for detailed video instructions..

Sony haven't released a Froyo 2.2 version for X8, so the only way, as dagger said is:
Root.
Recovery.
Custom ROM.
Bootloader (Not really safe).
Custom Kernel (Requires unlocked Bootloader).

2.1 is the latest firmware for Xperia X8. No more official updates for our little phone. If you want to upgrade, you have to use the unofficial ROMs (custom ROMs) developed by the good guys here at XDA. Note that this voids warranty if you by any chance still have it.
In short, Mistev provided you with all of the steps. Everything you do with the phone is relatively safe (and by this I mean you can always return it to the original state if something bad happens), except playing around with the kernel and bootloader. Do not attempt to unlock bootloader yet if you're new to this.
At the moment, you can upgrade all the way up to 4.1. However, I recommend either 2.2 or 2.3. In my opinion, 4.1 is for show-offs The lack of resources make it sort of impractical, but it's nice to see it can be done.
Now, off to the search engine to find tutorials on how to do each of the steps. It should take you only a few hours to set up a new system. An experienced user could do it in, like, 10-15 minutes.
Have fun

[Q] Need help and advice

hi friends i have captivate for more than 4 years never rooted it or did anything
now i broke my primary phone and it has went for repair which might take around a month
so am planning to use my captivate again
i am on stock 2.3.5 AT&T rom my phone is network unlock
i want to use a rom for daily usage just whatsapps FB viber and few other app
so i am looking for a good rom and planned to install gamerzRom
but am afraid will my network will be relock to AT&T as am in India using it with local provider
other think what i need to do in order to use this rom.. like su and cwm a guide will be helpful
and if my phone get locks to network how can i unlock it network again
- Your phone can't be more than 4 years old. Captivate was announced in June 2010.
- Once unlocked it will stay unlocked after JB upgrade.
- Follow this very clear and easy to understand guide for upgrade procedure.
- Start with CM 10.1, this ROM is the base for almost all JB ROMs for Captivate. You can flash after whatever you want.
- You may need to replace your battery.

About upgrade process just read the guide. It contains all answers to your questions.
The last official ROM for Captivate is GB based Samsung TW, all ICS/JB upgrades are custom ROMs.
[Stock ROMs](OneClicks Master Collection) is the very first sticky thread in Captivate Android Development section.
Please, spend some time to read the information provided on XDA before asking basic questions. Many knowledgeable people sacrificed a lot of there free time to explain everything you need to know about Captivate. Before you run into problems, try to understand the upgrade/downgrade process. And be very careful when playing with images containing bootloaders. Unsuccessful attempt to flash bootloaders will hard brick the phone and this will be the end of all your questions. Good luck!

I don't know what "sense 5 launcher" is, but I can make almost any launcher mimic Sense interface using corresponding themes, icon packs, widgets, etc. - all available for free on Google Play. Note that you will not be able to 100% duplicate Sense interface features unless you buy a HTC phone. All HTC additions to Android OS are proprietary software and not available for download/use on non-HTC devices.
Thank you !

In order to run ICS/JB ROMs you need to have GB bootloaders. In other words, it depends where you start from. If you start from 2.1/2.2, then you need to update the bootloaders. If you start from 2.3.x, then no need to flash bootloaders. This is also explained in the guide. Same thing with stock ROMs. If you never had GB running on your phone and you want to flash KK4, then you need the package with GB bootloaders.
Just a warning
When flashing the bootloaders theres more chance of something to go wrong. I bricked a phone permanently like that.

presently am on GB 2.3.5 I897UCKK4 so i dont need bootloader.. and only by rooting and cwm i can flash any of my desired rom base on GB/ICS/JB

Since u r on KK4 u should have the GB Bootloaders. (Unless u see a total pixelated screen when u boot ur phone. If u do, then u don't have the Bls. Otherwise ur good to go.)
And here is a [Utility]KK4 Easy Root by Red_81 that u can gain Root access through and also get the KK4 Corn Kernel that has CWM Recovery so that u can proceed with flashin ur rom of choice.
See post # 4 in the thread linked for a workin download...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26710533&postcount=1
And in my opinion, i would suggest stayin away from flashing ICS Roms, because of the possible encryption unsuccessful bug.
